I'm rooting for Shawn's channel to keep growing. From when I last checked on 06/05/24 Shawn has 43.4K subscribers (including me) with 340 videos. I'd like to see and purchase a full performance of solos with backing track lessons from Shawn Tubbs. I like the way his lessons are simplified by explaining the chord shapes that he's using in his solo concepts.
Love your playing and tone, great lesson and thanks for slowing it down to actually let sink in, big help! Thanks and yes I’m a huge Robben Ford fan from his days with Yellowjackets
I gravitated to this channel because of the obvious love for Jeff Beck. I stay and dig in for the Robben Ford vibes. And by they way... take as long as you want to explain. I'm down for it
"and a lot of this stuff, I did steal from -" me: Robben Ford - "listening to Robben Ford so much". I'm right there with you man. If you're gonna steal, steal from the best.
I'm kind of an old grouch who doesn't give compliments as often as I should, but you are an amazing guitar player and your videos are helping me to improve.
Shawn bro I can't say enough how much I appreciate what you are doing man some of the tastiest playing I've ever heard!! Keep it up we are all very lucky that you are so generous with your lessons and time
Please continue to create these little lessons Shawn. Ive always had a similar approach to guitar as you (shape based) but never fully understood the theory behind why I liked the sounds that I like. You breaking down Robben Ford type phrases has been super helpful for me. EX) Explaining replacing the b7 with the 6 in the Pentatonic scale or the 13b9 before the IV chord. I know I like the sound of that, just didnt know what it was until you explained it. Also glad to see you coming out of your shell as a UA-cam personality too. Not that your first gear review videos werent great (which they totally are) but its nice to see you having fun behind the camera
OK so half speed (drunken) Shawn Tubbs makes for an entertaining lunch hour at work! Thanks Shawn for another great lesson ... my air guitar is really coming along (I can't use my actual guitar at work!)
Straight into the amp; AWESOME! Useful, tasty riffs that inspire and inform. The Macallan 12 yr. Sherry Oak Cask, guitar, matchless, along with the aforementioned is priceless. Thank you.
Hey Shawn, do you have any videos that demonstrate some good chops-building exercises? Also, any recommendations for books that focus on that? Love the videos! Thanks!
I really need to do a chops building video. There are a ton of sources via UA-cam for chops building. Have you checked out Rick Graham? He's one of my favorites!
Shalom Shawn, As usual it's a GREAT lesson ! I am waiting for your uploading each week with impatience. I am learning with you in your amazing SoundSlice and I feel that you could give (maybe) some tips about picking (do you use hydrid?) .THX
Ok I cheated and slowed it down to 0.25, unfortunately you sounded so drunk at that speed I couldn't stop laughing and my playing wouldn't cooperate, I will get back to this when I recover myself . Joking aside I love these keep em coming Shawn.
You must have quite a particular structure that constitues your brain... Now I have a headache !! 🙉 Plus you're not playing outside: I see you're in the studio !! :-))
jakollee it’s hard to tell. It still looks like mainly alternating to me. But I’m sure you are right. A versatile player such as Shawn uses all tools at his disposal
Thanks Shawn I too was wondering about hammers and pull offs and economy picking. You answered my question. I remember reading an article where Al Dimeola said hammers and pull offs were cheating lol
More homework, you're such a hard task master 😢 PLEASE DON'T STOP!!! In the next vid could you show a little more on your right hand? I know you play quite straight most of the time but you often put little skips in your riffs that would be great to break down. Lastly, could you use the Dude for one of these, you say you use it lots but I just don't believe you coz we don't hear you play it. I bet you put it in a cupboard in a spare room because it's been naughty and the Majestic has taken its place 😭
Learn the ROVER Led Zeppelin....The Song is in A MAJOR/F#min. it's slower ...so you can riff it...and get the idea. it's Basically E mixolyian...But Jimmy is going to bend the b3....and the 2nd and b7. This guys style would have to be one of the best I've seen. And a cool cat. Great
I can definitely hear the Robben Ford influence. Thanks, Shawn.
Thats how I want to play over the blues
You have a great sense of humor .A clear and helpful guitar lesson as to how to play outside . Appreciated .And subbed .
You're very kind indeed! Thanks so much for the sub!!

Thanks so much Tim. I hope you're doing well man!
You are a long standing inspiration Shawn!

Thank you Shawn. That was a most interesting lesson.
Love it. Great stuff as always!
Nice to have found you. Thank you for the riff.
Beautiful guitar! And such a tasty lick
Cool riff and bass line in the backing track! Thanks man.
Great licks, great tone, great guitar!!! Thanks Commander!!!

Great video(s) Shawn. Keep up the good work, i guess we all appreciate it very much.
Next thing I have to learn. I know what I am going to do this week !
Killer tone, killer guitar, killer skills as always Shawn.
Thanks so much, you're very kind!
Ace. Thanks, Shawn. I learned something great. 🙏🏼

Lagavulin 16 for me but The Macallan 12 is indeed a nice pour!!
Awesome lesson and great presentation. Had me chuckling a couple of times and I believe I snickered as well.
Dude, as always you are a beast! And a hoot to watch!
Uniqueness!!!!!!!!!! I wish you 100K Subscribers this year!
You're very kind. Thanks so much!
Always intensely musical playing with an impeccable time feel!!
Love your playing, as well as your humor
organic music and personality
Best part of this video are these 8 seconds 8:25-8:33.... :)
Thanks Shawn! Killer lick! highly appreciated!
Superb intro.
Great lessons...thank you! I think it's one of the few that advances my understanding of theory and adds to my arsenal of 'go-to' licks to build upon.
So good. Luke has nothing on you, dude. Keep ‘em coming.....
Awesome as usual. I'll have try some of these sweet licks!! ~Robert
You SO crazy! Love ya man!
Thank you! Amazing.....dang......👍🏼
Cool 😎
Scary playin geez
Awesome!!! Where can I get that backing track??!!

I do use hybrid on occasion. For the most part I tend to use directional picking and hammer on pull off to get through it. Thanks for the question!
Ever thought about doing a gypsy jazz video? It'd be really cool to see your approach to it.
I've thought about it but I'm just not that good at it anymore. Not a horse you can jump off of. ;)
Bebop, excellent.
Ok I cheated and slowed it down to 0.25, unfortunately you sounded so drunk at that speed I couldn't stop laughing and my playing wouldn't cooperate, I will get back to this when I recover myself . Joking aside I love these keep em coming Shawn.
The ending I also play all the time and took It from a jazz player. Cool Lick. Great playing.
Thanks very much!!
hey shawn wondering wat the backing trakc is? also ur my hero
Thanks very much! That backing track is just something I put together quickly for the lesson.
I like the way you call licks...riffs!😂
I have an aversion to the word "licks" in reference to guitar playing.
Epic!
Where's lesson 4?
Can you name a bunch of stuff albums etc. for me to listen to along these lines artists etc. thanks
I would start with Robben Ford "Talk To Your Daughter".
You must have quite a particular structure that constitues your brain... Now I have a headache !! 🙉 Plus you're not playing outside: I see you're in the studio !! :-))
😊👍
Add some chorus and we're at scofield zone!! great lesson
Shawn I love your style, tone phrasing etc. Do you always alternate pick everything? What about hybrid picking?
Watch his right hand on some of his faster licks (in gear demos), he does hybrid picking like a champ!
jakollee it’s hard to tell. It still looks like mainly alternating to me. But I’m sure you are right. A versatile player such as Shawn uses all tools at his disposal
I do hybrid on occasion but for the most part I cheat like crazy and do hammer-ons and such as well as directional picking. I'm a big cheater!!!
Thanks Shawn I too was wondering about hammers and pull offs and economy picking. You answered my question. I remember reading an article where Al Dimeola said hammers and pull offs were cheating lol
Oh that Friedman sounds awesome really fat sounding notes
I play the blues outside does that count?
I think it should!!
@@ShawnTubbs * Looks out at the pouring rain * ... okay then ...
yeah he sounds like Robben Ford
wow
How much for the cat?
Hahaha. She's a keeper!!
Intro sounds like a funkier Jon Herington
👍🇺🇸
I've ript heaps off him. Completely change my playing. And hereing out side the normal riff.

Sorry Shawn.
I used to open you tube in Edge, now the greedy fuckers have put there adds in this. Aren't they rich enough?
The cat don't like this riff.
