Getting around to some BTO! People told us has some of the same people from The Guess Who, most notably the guitarist! Let us know if you enjoyed this video and what we gotta hit next from BTO or other Canadian acts, cheers! 🙌🏻🔥
Specifically Randy Bachman. (He left Guess Who in the middle of their big US tour. Later turned to his hometown friend, Neil Young for advice on starting over, which led to BTO) Randy has a weekly radio broadcast in Canada called “Vinyl Tap”. He plays all kinds and vintages of popular music, and tells great stories. Worth checking out.
Not most notably the guitarist - ONLY the guitarist (the drummer did tour with them for a but in the 80s but never played on any of the 70s/good stuff).
Omgosh, yes. Taking care of business, You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet, Etc.... but guys, be aware yes there's lots of repetition but sometimes we like it like that. It's just a banging song and we don't need intricate, long details. Just something that sounds good over and over that you can belt out loud and proud. Haha
Imagine a young girl wearing bright orange, red snap bell bottom jeans, a halter top, cruising the neighborhood on her super cool, green metallic ten speed with a blue ball AM/FM transistor radio swinging from the handlebars on a silver chain listening to “Let It Ride”. Young and free. Thanks for all the trips down memory lane. You guys are great! Love watching you discover the music of my generation. ✌🏻

It’s when you guys make a statement like, “I’ve never heard of BTO before”, that I’m reminded how young you are. One of the best things to ever come out of Canada.
We used to say BTO stood for basic tunes only. But that was a good thing. As you said, no frills R&R. Played the hell out of their first four albums in 8-track while cruising and partying.
@@knightni73 What do you mean "Left us way too early"? Fred Turner is still with us, he's alive and kicking at 77 years young, Fred retired from performing live a few years ago.
As one who has aspired to being a bassist/vocalist, and the relative infrequency that becoming truly great at it happens, it's a short list I've turned to as a way to model the craft.... Fred Turner is near the very top of this list for me...coming in a super close second to Jimmy Dewar (Robin Trower)
I lived it. I was 16 years old when this song was released and it was a great time to be alive. So, a few months ago my oldest son was attending a 70's party where everyone got to request one song and this was the song that he requested. He called me the next day and said "thanks dad for suggesting Let It Ride, every single person in the place was smiling, dancing and singing when it played".
BTO managed to do that miraculous thing: Create a sound that was distinctly their own. Saw them in concert in the 70s; have never heard a band before or since that sounded like that. And they were loud.
Been waiting for some BTO. This is a pretty tasty banger but Takin' Care of Business off this same album is their best known song. Either way, these guys knew how to rock.
I think Let it Ride will get better than a B, and I think it's a better cut than Takin Care of Business. But in all fairness, I believe that Takin Care of Business has been so overplayed that I just got sick of it. Did you ever love a song that just got so much air play you got tired of it and started to dislike it?
I think Let It Ride is a fine start but when you know the band's catalog you start thinking "biggest hit" versus favorite songs. I like Not Fragile and Roll On Down The Highway better than Takin' Care, but I'd want someone who never heard them before to hear the biggest songs first. There's a reason why they are hits.
IMO, Takin Care of Business may be their most popular song, but by no means their best. It's one of those songs that you can get tired of easily. Have to get into some deeper cuts to get to the good stuff like "Flat Broke Love", "Four Wheel Drive", "Not Fragile", and "Roll On Down The Highway". If you want to do a popular radio song, then at least do "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet".
True story. I met him once when I worked at his hometown airport. He's a sweetheart and a great storyteller, not unlike his partner in the Guess Who, Burton Cummings. Fun fact, Randy Bachman's son Tal had a hit in the early 2000s with She's So High.

Listening to this today i had serious Doobie Brothers vibe. Mind you I'm 50 years old and a retired musician who's heard this song before. But reaction channels have me listening to even familiar songs in a new way.
Yup that clean guitar chord/riff with the fat distorted line over it often reminds me of the Doobies...although I heard this song long before I heard the Doobies.

Love this local Canadian band. Randy Bachman owned a home in my beloved Queens Park in New Westminister, BC. Gotta check out You ain't seen Nothing yet !
The story behind this song is (more or less) that, while the band were on the highway, their vehicle got hemmed in by a couple of 18-wheelers. They caught up with the drivers at a truck stop, and confronted them about it. The drivers' reaction was like, "Hey, it's cool. Everything's fine; no one got hurt. Just let it ride." And a song idea was born. So, Andy, your mention of getting into a fight at a truck stop was closer than you might think. And con-grad-ulations, bud!
As I read the lyrics along with the song, it sounded like a man whose girl took him for granted. He's ready to hit the road. He wanted to know how she would feel if he did the same thing to her. The tension seems to escalate as he asks her, try try, try, would you let it ride (if I did that to you)?

Probably my favorite track by BTO,,,classic guitar ring to the chords and a haunting ending...this song always took me places......one of those RARE gems that....when you hear it on the radio or playing in the background somewhere....if you can, you turn the volume up and stop what you are doing and get lost in the sauce.....or if you cant control the volume, you stop what you are doing, stop talking....just so you can enjoy the memories one more time......
Yes! Looking forward to this reaction. I heard this for the first time when I was 14 years old. I loved it then and still do. It's a song I never tire of hearing.
I have to admit, I spent years interpreting the same way they did. Then one day I really heard what he was saying and it was 'Oh, it's HER that is lying....'.
@@dickiebobradio1304 That's the line that I finally really heard that put it into perspective. I liked the song musically before that but I was always a bit 'Really dude?' until it clicked.
It's been so long since I've heard it, on the radio, it took me a whole stanza before it was the 70's all over again. 16 in 75, what a great time to grow up.
Saw them several times and not a weak link anywhere in the group. The drummer was a mad man. During the shows Randy does a guitar solo that is absolute magic and keeps the audience spellbound.
Blue Clar is/wuz the best and got me into BTO on th ground floor tho little of their following tunes we're of that I'll. . . Great tunesn memories from my 'yout' . . !
No doubt! Randy Bachman's one of the guitar greats!! The other guitarist is Blair Thornton, also a great guitarist!! Check out all the early BTO and then some! They Rock!!
Sadly "Blue Collar" is rarely mentioned when talking of this group but it's a top 5 BTO song for me. I think they would find it interesting if they reacted to it but alas I fear my wish won't come true.
This is probably their best song. They have other well known songs, like "Taking Care of Business" and "Roll On Down The Highway", and "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet", but everything you felt about this song you'd feel about those. This is a band that knows their lane and stays in it. They're like this one, good banging rock, not profound or challenging, but good.
Bassist/Vocals Fred Turner...never makes anyone's top 100 list. He was incredible and could still bring it in his 70's. Check out his crazy vocals on "Give It Time".
Good morning! This song is different from BTO’s other songs. For years I had no clue it was them. I have no idea who I thought it was- Doobies? Steppenwolf? Then one day My cousin told me it was BTO, and I was like, huh???!! It’s a good introduction, and one of their best song IMO. If you’re ever in the mood for a more mellow song by them, try Looking Out For #1. Fun fact, another guy who started out in Winnipeg, Neil Young suggested to Bachman to ask Turner to join after their original vocalist left. Enjoy!
I love seeing you guys smile and or look surprised when an awesome moment happens in one of these classic R&R songs!! Same reaction from those of us who heard it when it first came out. Bought it & then played it over & over. Thanks.
It just dawned on me why I enjoy this channel. Over the last 10-20 yrs I’ve grown so tired of “classic rock” that I grew up on in the 70s. This channel forces me listen to these classics with renewed focus - on lyrics and music, etc. And watching A&A’s enthusiasm doesn’t hurt. Thanks for re-introducing these songs to us old folk. I’m thinking Lil Feat would be a nice follow up to BTO.
We Canadians (yes I’m Canadian) took the world by storm with this On Point Rocker! Rand Bachman (the Lead) had a gutsy vocal that carried this infectious track. The guitars were their signature, but so was a surprising bass end for a rock group. The FiRST of many hits for Bachman Turner Overdrive. Definitely travel down that Rabbit Hole………..
@@andyandalex yeah I know, but it made me laugh because the song You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet was inspired by the singer’s brother who had a lifelong stutter.
@@danhunt1830 exactly, and according to Randy it was a warm-up song for them, never to be played in public. So they create an album of music and the agent or label pops by to hear what they have so far and after a few songs asks "anything else?" "we need a hit single". With nothing else to offer the band tongue and cheek plays the "joke" warm up song and the label says "there's your hit single" and they were exactly right. My personal favourite album by these guys is Not Fragile. A lyric from the song Not Fragile. "You ask if we play heavy music. Well are thunderheads just another cloud, we do not fragile, straight at you." Looking forward to the reaction. Cheers. Also, congrats on graduating, Andy!
Hey guys, sorry but the lyrics are: His girl stays out all night and tells HIM to "Let it ride". Then the rest of the song is him asking, " What if I did the same thing! Would YOU just let it ride?" Takes quite a different meaning put into context. Thanks

Yes! Looking forward to this reaction. I heard this for the first time when I was 14 years old. I loved it then and still do. It's a song I never tire of hearing.
Guys thank you for helping keep the "music of my life" alive and well.
This has always been one of my all-time favorite songs. The entire first side of that album is excellent.
Top BTO songs: Rolling Down The Highway, Let It Ride, Takin’ Care Of Business, and Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet!
Looking Out For #1 as well
@@maruad7577 True
Way ahead of their time. Lots of hard stomping hits!
This song is about a woman who cheated on him and gave him a line for an excuse. He asks her what would she do? Let it Ride?
Yeah, they kinda missed it in this first run...
I have to admit, I spent years interpreting the same way they did. Then one day I really heard what he was saying and it was 'Oh, it's HER that is lying....'.
@@telynns8490 "While you been out runnin', I've been waitin' half the night..."
Damn I just typed th at response all out.... you beat me to it. Credit where it's due! I agree with your reading.
@@dickiebobradio1304 That's the line that I finally really heard that put it into perspective. I liked the song musically before that but I was always a bit 'Really dude?' until it clicked.
One of my favorite bands from the 70's. Some members still toured as Bachman-Turner less than 10 years ago. They could still bring it!
Randy Bachmann and another great Canadian group!!!!! Oh, Canada!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
another one of those great riffs of the '70s. I love me a classic riff. enjoy!!
Huge congratulations on your graduation, Andy!!
This is a great first choice for BTO. Camping out overnight to get a good spot for this. 🤘
It's been so long since I've heard it, on the radio, it took me a whole stanza before it was the 70's all over again.
16 in 75, what a great time to grow up.
Loving the classic Canadian content! These guys were a sober band at a time when every band was doing something.
I had forgotten how awesome and gritty this song is. BTO was incredible to hear on here. Thanks guys for checking them out.
Yeah, we Canadians love to rock!! Try out "Blue Collar", a jazz/rock classic.
Heck yeah!
Blue Collar is the track you need to check out!
BTO and a GTO with an 8 track on full volume at a stop light, all heads bobbin
Saw them several times and not a weak link anywhere in the group. The drummer was a mad man. During the shows Randy does a guitar solo that is absolute magic and keeps the audience spellbound.
Bass player CF Turner on vocals on this one. "Hey You" sung by guitarist Randy Bachman is my personal favorite.
Gimme Your Money Please is a rocker by them. You also need to review- The Guess Who- Hang On To Your Life and Bus Rider.
Their anthem: “Taking care of business”. If you want to get lost in the sauce, “Blue Collar”
Blue Clar is/wuz the best and got me into BTO on th ground floor tho little of their following tunes we're of that I'll. . . Great tunesn memories from my 'yout' . . !
Put them on the map....bought the album that week!
👍
How about Looking Out For Number One? That's a good "lost in the sauce" track, too. I loved that BTO could play some jazzy blues as well as rock out!
Blue Collar is my fave too.
4 Wheel Drive is an underrated rocker from these guys- my favorite song of theirs
BTO is a fantastic group, I’m just sorry I never got to see them live. They were one of the all time great 70’s band. 👍🎸🥁
Next do roll on down the highway, or aint seen nothin yet
Those two songs, this song here, and "Takin' Care of Business" are bangers, for sure!
And "Stayed Awake All Night"
Blue Collar also.
Play Blue Collar you'll see how good Randy Bachman is on guitar
And Looking Out for #1. Agreed, he's highly underrated as a guitarist.
If you read through the comments a lot of people mention it. Click like to help upvote it.
Blue Collar, and Roll On Down The Highway are my 2 favorite BTO songs.
The best rock jazz fusion song ever. And deep lyrics. Turner's vocals are also something to behold. Sounds like a R&B singer
Many, including me, think that their first album was their best. Not a bad song on it.
Blue collar was awesome off the first album. Randy's guitar was super cool.
The '70s... what great years..happy memories...music filled the air!
❤One of my most favorite songs EVER ! Still rocks !!! Definitely a "crank it up !" song.
Very Heavy tune..
Enjoy!
About 50 years on, this song is still a pleasure. Makes me smile every time.
One of the best songs ever made.
You don't know what rock really is until you been listening to bto for years and to this day
Not Fragile needs to be next ✌️
You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet, most recognizable song
I would say Taking Care of Business is.
@@sallyphillips9175 Stayed awake all night.
🥁CERTIFIED BANGER🥁
I love seeing you guys smile and or look surprised when an awesome moment happens in one of these classic R&R songs!! Same reaction from those of us who heard it when it first came out. Bought it & then played it over & over. Thanks.
I'm 53 and enjoying the hell out of watching these bros bob their heads to some great tunes. My suggestion is review Mississippi Queen by Mountain.
Taken care of Business. Brings back the seventies high School kegs in the woods. Just starting out on the life that now I'm on the downside of.
Luv luv luv this. The whole album is embedded in my head. Wore out the 8-track
Some of the best high school drill team music out there! Memories✨
This group is soooo underrated and gets overlooked a lot! By the way, did I hear Alex mention a stutter? Next up: You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet!
It was him making a joke about how many times in the lyrics it says let it ride (especially if you pull up a sheet of the lyrics)
You Ain't Seen nothin yet....BBBBBaby, you just ain't seen nothing yet!!! Classic
@@danhunt1830 I was going to mention that too. He was the lead guitarist and the younger brother was the drummer. Talented Canadian family. 🇨🇦
Congratulations Andy on the graduation!!I’d give it it an A too. Saw BTO in concert back in the 70’s find some of their live stuff. Other Canadians try some Triumph they banged back then!
Nothing like the fiery vocals of Fred Turner.....
So, you fist-bumped, called it a banger, smiled and bopped throughout the whole thing, loved everything about it - then give it an A and a B+???? Wow.....
It's not that great of a song. If they'd have listened to "Blue Collar", it would be a better grade.
Yes, Alex's grade was a bummer. I think he thought the lyrics were sexist.
i once listen to this song 59 times in a row. my personal record.
“ Roll on Down the Highway”....great tune by these Canadian rockers. They had some harmony for big old guys.
Rock Is My Life This Is My Song! great track boys.
Yes! Deep cut, but such a heavy riff. I just listened to it again last week. Always puts me in a great mood!
Love that song.. may be my favorite! and on the album it follows Not Fragile..
Hey guys, sorry but the lyrics are: His girl stays out all night and tells HIM to "Let it ride". Then the rest of the song is him asking, " What if I did the same thing! Would YOU just let it ride?" Takes quite a different meaning put into context. Thanks
Andy and Alex, thank you guys for tapping into all these greats from the 60s & 70s.
They were a outstanding group .My all time favorite way of a song ending .
