Just want to say i enjoy your easy to understand repair videos, alot of people like to make the repairs look overly complicated. please upload more often(if you can that is).

Great video but is there any way to diagnose that it's a HDD fault other than just trying this, Because more often than not its the retimer chip. Should you always just do these steps and format the drive as a sort of process of elimination?

Good question, in my experience it feels like if there is a problem with the retimer chip then there usually are only a few outcomes, either the console turns on then turns off, or (more likely), the xbox comes on, stays on, and you can hear the hard drive doing its thing (assuming the fan is not too loud).
Diagnosing hard drive issues are a little more tricky because there are many ways a hard drive can fail, and each failure brings a different behaviour from the xbox when booting (freezing, no display, takes a long time for the display to come on, turn on then turn off corrupt update etc etc), if you have the tools at your disposal I would strongly recommend always checking the hard drive anyway as its likely that its been used for years and may carry some problem anyway. I will shortly start doing more repair videos again, and i will try to document my best practice when trying to diagnose whether its a retimer / hard drive or motherboard issue...
Wish I could be of more help, and thanks for watching my video :)
