All the bands back then were always genuinely smiling. Almost surprised that ppl were out there dancing and singing to their music. So young and humble
I the 60's you were bombarded with hit after hit... You couldn't keep up with them .. Even the Wolfman had a tough time playing them all.. Best era ever to grow up.. BOWEEEEE...IT BE THE WOOOOLFMAN BABY..
I'm so addicted to this song and its video and some of the moves that the dancers are doing remind me of my late (and much beloved and missed) older sister's cheerleading moves that she was doing as a cheerleader around the very same age as this episode of Shindig in 1965!❤️😁🤸🤸🤸🤸🤸
This is from someone who lived these days. The times were not carefree as they were in the fifties. Lots of stuff going on with Vietnam etc, but the music helped us all get through. I look at this now and remember how special it really was. To be so young and have so much life in you that you just couldn't sit still. You had to get up and dance. And the way it felt when you danced! This video reflects that mood so well. Thanks for bringing a little taste of it back.
Born in the late 80's and growing up through the mid 90's, my parents raised me, and my sister, with late 50's, 60's and 70's music because that's what they listened to. This is still one of my favorite songs.
+Michael Smith ..... drummer is average, at best ....... you must not have heard but a few songs from this era, and that's it ...... because you ARE WRONG ..... (next thing you'll say is the lead singer should have won "American Idol")
This tune popped in my mind out of nowhere. Wasn't sure of the name or group, but jumped into you tube land and after searching for a few minutes I saw it, remembered it and relaxed into a much younger, happier period in America that felt so comfortable, safe and secure.
This song is a classic and no matter where you are or what your doing your going to start moving! Loved Shindig I couldn't wait for it it come on cause you never knew what to expect or who was going to be on but one thing for sure when the go go girls started dancing it was like heaven sent man those moves to this day amaze me! The Gentrys were one of my favorites and when they closed this show out you couldn't help but get up and dance!! No matter one anyone says ''ROCK ON"
This video fascinates me. Of course, I love this song, but the format of the dance set really interests me. There are the go-go dancers in front, dancing in sync with each other, and in what appears to be matching outfits. Then the folks behind the band are dancing their own individual style. Then, there are these little groups of people just randomly dancing away! I love it. 😆❤️!!
@thecountofbasie I think for Hart to go from The Gentrys and to professional wrestling, and make big business the way he has is a testament to his talent and hard work. I celebrate both his time in The Gentrys as well as his contributions to wrestling. He is a guy that just knows how to entertain.

Origin,Memphis,Tennessee, U.S. MGM Records "Keep on Dancing" is a rock song written by Allen A. Jones and Willie David Young, originally performed by the Avantis on Argo Records in 1963, and covered by The Gentrys in 1965.The seven-member group of Treadwell High School (Memphis, Tennessee), alumni included Bruce Bowles (vocals), Bobby Fisher (saxophone, keyboards), Jimmy Hart (vocals), Jimmy Johnson (trumpet), Pat Neal (bass guitar), Larry Raspberry (guitar, lead vocalist), and drummer Larry Wall (replaced by Rob Straube)[1] and also with another member, Larry Butler (keyboards). The youths formed the Gentrys in May 1963 as a rock 'n' roll group for local dances, and were very successful playing for high school dates. In September 1964 they won third place in the Mid-South Fair Talent Competition and auditioned for the Ted Mack Amateur Hour. They soon became the most popular teenage band in the mid-South and in 1964 won the Memphis Battle of the Bands. In December 1964 the group was given a contract by local record label Youngstown Records, and made their first record of "Sometimes", which was very popular locally in early 1965
In my younger days, I thought they were singing "Keep on dancing while your pregnant" until I was able to get the printed lyrics many, many years later. Great song!!!!
Best dance song of all time if you ask me. I grew up listening it on 1470 KXOA in Sacramento, Ca as a kid. This song rocks! Much later I bought a 45 of it at The Olde Record Shoppe in Diamond Springs, Ca.
That's two people that are known off The Gentrys The first one is Jimmy Hart who in the 80's would be a manager in the WWF under the name Mouth Of The South Jimmy Hart! And Justin Bieber's Grandfather. YEESH eyeroll. And please don't say they are one in the same!
The central dancer Girl IS ABOLUTELY CRAZY And LOVELY And her movements are just AMAZING !! The guys play excelent And I see the Beatles Influence. In conclusion ,a PHENOMENAL AND GLORIOUS And NO TIME PARTY EVER !! From LIMA PERÚ
I always thought Jimmy Hart's voice was annoying when he was at ringside yelling through a megaphone. I didn't know he actually had a good singing voice. I also didn't know he wrote a lot of the wrestling music for the WWF when he was there. I am totally amazed.
Keep your eye on the background singer with the jet black mop-top. You get a pretty good look at his face around 1:22. That (I think) is the future "Mouth of the South," Jimmy Hart when he was a big time rock star. Am I right? Anyway, I am always a sucker for records with "false endings" and this is one of the very best.
Definitely the best version of this song. The original was by the Avantis but in that version the tempo didn't match the lyrics. In the 1970s the Bay City Rollers did a cover but I wish they hadn't.

Jimmy Hart at :42, legendary performer and future WWF (WWE) wrestling manager of many top wrestlers. Myson always asked me which one was Jimmy, no problem, best dancer and most animated performer aside from lead singer Larry Raspberry on guitar. If you ever watch "Land of 1000 Dances" by The Wrestlers (83'ish WWF song spoof on Wilson Pickett hit) you'll notice Jimmy Hart was the only professional singer in that lineup. Great performer and good man who worked hard to get to the top.
This is what rock n' roll music is all about! Keep on dancing & keep on having fun! Check out the Shindig audience members, they just can't help themselves! They know a good song when they hear it!
I've known Jimmy Hart was in The Genrtys for decades now, but I never bothered to really look them up, I've also known this song for decades, but I never knew who it was who played it until now. All these years I was rocking out to The Mouth Of The South and I didn't even know it!!!

I have been listening to this for the last hour. Dancing is pretty tight, too
I'm at it again. Though the quality of this video is off, this is the best of their performances. Who own's the rights to this?
Cool one hit wonder.
Covered by the Bay City Rollers in the early 70's. Not in their tartan days though. They were be-suited in those days. Sure it was adopted by Northern Sould dancers at the time?
The keyboard player, Jimmy Johnson said that the Gentry's paid his way thru medical school.
Robert McGee I thought it was Bobby fisher who played keyboard
Jimmy Hart! "The Mouth of the South!"
Somebody has really tweaked the sound on this video. Brought the mids and highs out in front. I personally like it that way.
At :13 I Couldnt Agree Anymore!!!! ROCK ON!
I remember this song because I was around in that time. As I was older then they were.
Jimmy Hart is behind the guitarist/singer's left shoulder, with the dark mop hair. I guess the Mouth did lead vocals on most of their songs, but not this one.
+foodiedave No, Jimmy Hart was a backup singer for the group when this song came out, When Larry Raspberry left the group, Hart took over lead vocals.
MY SISTER HAD THIS 45 AND I JUST STARTED DRUMS I PLAYED THE HELL OUT OF IT TO THIS DAY I STILL PLAY THIS SONG ON THE DASH BOARD OF THE CAR YOU NEVER GROW OLD WITH SONGS IN YOURE MIND
The "false fade" at 1:47 was originally the end of the song. They had to repeat the first part to make the song long enough for a record.
That's kool info thanks!
I've known Jimmy Hart was in The Genrtys for decades now, but I never bothered to really look them up, I've also known this song for decades, but I never knew who it was who played it until now. All these years I was rocking out to The Mouth Of The South and I didn't even know it!!!
Gentrys had great sound, too bad they aren't doing it anymore
+Michael Smith yeah, that´s so right:)))
Wow, good eyes. Did you actually pick her out? Im impressed could see it was her!
