I always thought 1965 was musically the best. The British invasion, Motown, Surf Music, James Brown, Bossa Nova Jazz, were all at their height that year. Yeah let's go back dang it !!
This is the last song of its kind during its generation. After KEEP ON DANCING, there'd never be another tune like it to ever hit the charts the way THIS did.
Sure would. 1965 rubber soul by the beatles and seeing bob dylan at the Cleveland music hall on November 12, 1965. I met dylan in 1991 and have see him 35 times.
Speaking of generations "the bomb" was a prominent thought in the youngsters that any day the communists would launch a nuclear attack. Dropping below desks was a grammar school drill. The remedy to anxiety was to just keep on dancing, martyrs to the cold war.
@@persevere4 I was there then and remember it all very well. And let's not forget the escalating "Vietnam Conflict" (as it was called then) coming right at us!! My "draft lottery" number was 17, so I knew they had me.
Back then the girls were thin, had a lot of natural beauty, no piercings or tattoos. Guys were thin and fit also, now we force feed huge portions of junk food and wonder why obesity and heart disease are on the rise.

Great "dancin'&prancing" R&R song; an actual song. Reminds me Rock&Roll is fossilized now.😭 But Thank God we have media that we can still play for our JOY.

I wish I could remember. They played at my Junior Senior prom in 1964, but I couldn't tell you one song they played since they hadn't released this song at that time. Oddly enough I recall the Bill Black Combo who also played, more than them.
They were high school friends from Memphis who formed in 1963. Early recording such as "Sometimes" were made for the local Youngstown label. They switched to MGM Records who distibuted "Keep on Dacin" nationally. Other MGM discs failed to crack the Top 40, including "Spread It on Thick", "Brown Paper Sack", "Every Day I Have to Cry Some," and "You Make Me Feel So Good." The 5-piece Gentrys led by guitarist Larry Raspberry broke up in 1967. Member Jimmy Hart formed a new different Gentrys in 1969, who recorded for Sun Records. Their big hits were "Cinnamon Girl," and "Why Should I Cry."
@@drivinsouth651 It's the same prancing side-to-side step over and over again. If anything, the Jacksons turned it into something far more complex and entertaining--and, obviously, more difficult to replicate well.

"What knockers!" "Senk you, doctor."
