A lady I used to work with told me stories from when she was a teenager in the early 60s. You’d invite kids over from school and have “record parties.” Everyone would bring a few singles and dance. Kind of like in this video. New sound, new dances, and just innocent fun. The 60s were in no way perfect, but I always longed to have been able to grow up back then. Even as a child when TLC and Boys II Men were huge, I still preferred my oldies station and listening to my grandma tell nostalgic stories. ☺️
    So many great hits!

I was born 62. 85 was when I entered university. I don’t look back on queuing at the post office every month to pay the bills… And playlists are a bit better than trying to hit the song you liked with the recorder pickup. And hey, the world was supposed to go under in a nuclear war before the year 2000, the Cold War was on. But ok, the 90’s were great.

In the early 60's, we would go to a local amusement park. Friday night was coke a COLA night and we take our bottle caps to pay for the rides. There as a famous ballroom when the big bands would play there but in the 60's rock n roll bands played. I was in my preteens then and this band would play Hang On Sloopy they were The McCoys. The dance craze was the STOMP. Packed ballroom stomping to the beat of Hang On Sloopy. Best time of my life.

@@AlanSmith-ym8pj We checked out Wikipedia and found the original lineup: Joel Hill on guitar, Ray Johnson on Philicorda organ, Ray Pohlman on bass guitar and Jesse Sailes on drums. The dominant drumming of Sailes and Johnson on the organ practically fade out Hill's rhythmn guitar. It is there, keeping rhythmn with the drums, but hardly anyone would notice. While there is no biographical information on Mr. Hill or Mr. Johnson, Jessie Sailes (1919-2007) was a drummer who played on many hit records during the 1940's and '50's. Ray Pohlman--born Merlyn Ray Pohlman (1930-1990) was a member of the well known session group The Wrecking Crew and was a bass guitarist for various artists from Sam Cooke to The Beach Boys. Check Wikipedia for a full list. Thanks for the correction, mate! I learned something I never knew before.

I want to express my gratitude to Mr. Montez for joining me in my worldwide campaign to buckle up. Number 58 of the Kansas City Chiefs is the reason I always buckle up. I have no family here anymore. They are all gone hopefully to a better place! I danced a lot back in the day as well but not so much anymore. This song was so popular that Chris's band was the headliner at shows in the United Kingdom, about 1962. This song was almost a forerunner to modern Pop and Rock music.
The opening act was a growing, wannabe popular group called the Beatles.
The Beatles had only released a few not very big or very popular single records by then. No albums.
One of Chris's high school friends was Brian Wilson. Chris later helped out the Beach Boys with some of their songs.
Chris also went to a Ritchie Valens concert to hear his idol sing, and actually accidentally bumped into and talked to Valens during a break at the show. A charmed life indeed !

Chris Montez toured the UK in 1962 on the strength of this cracking song. In Gloucester, about 120 miles west of London, he had this totally unknown support band called The Beatles. Chris had never heard of them. Nor had the local newspaper reporter, whose main interest was in Chris Montez, the hot new American star. Out of professional concern for accuracy the reporter got this unknown Brit group to write their names in his notebook, thus getting perhaps the first set of Beatles autographs. A few weeks later he threw the notebook away....
