- Celebrate the 60th anniversary of "The Twist" with new commemorative releases:
abkco.lnk.to/c...
Follow the iconic dance craze that was "The Twist,” made famous by Chubby Checker from the sixties through today. “The Twist” first went to #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Chart in September of 1960. The music video incorporates footage of Chubby’s October 22, 1961 appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in the wake of “The Twist” having again gone to #1 on the Hot 100 earlier that year, a feat never equaled in the decades that followed.
""The Twist"" by Chubby Checker
Composer: Hank Ballard
Come on, baby
Let's do the twist
Come on, baby
Let's do the twist
Take me by my little hand
And go like this
E-yah, twist
Baby, baby, twist
Ooh yeah, just like this
Come on, little miss,
And do the twist
My daddy is sleepin'
And mama ain't around
Yeah, daddy's just sleepin'
And mama ain't around
We're gonna a-twist, a-twist, a-twistin'
'Til we tear the house down
Come on and twist
Yeah, baby, twist
Ooh yeah, just like this
Come on, little miss
And do the twist
E-yah
Yeah, you should see my little sis
You should see my, my little sis
She really knows how to rock
She knows how to twist
Come on and twist
Yeah, baby, twist
Ooh yeah, just like this
Come on, little miss,
And do the twist
Yeah
That's all right
Yeah, twist all night
Twist
('Round and 'round and 'round)

Saw him last night at a private show. He’s 82 and still twisting. It was incredible seeing him still doing his thing and getting audiences to lose themselves in the fun of his music.

I'm sitting.and tired

Let's do it!! Twist away!!!
He was ahead of his time. Long live the early 60's.
Not so popular the song or the reincarnation
This is Hank Ballard's song.
I love doing the twist, by the great Chubby Checker. Started at age 7yr. and still going strong at 70yrs.
Awesome Ronald! If you don’t love the twist, I think something may be wrong with your brain!

Chubby Checkers Is One Of The Best Singers Of All Time
*Checker
Chubby Checker,a great singer was back in 1960,six years before I was born 💙
The Twist ,one of Rock 'n' Roll's immortal hits. Forever remembered.
The oldies are the best of the best ❤
I just saw Chubby Checker in concert yesterday. He is an entertainer to the max. Including his audience in singing, dancing and walking through the audience, and what turned out to be the blast of my summer...dancing with him on stage doing the twist! 💃
No wayyyy🎉🎉🎉🎉
This song came out over 60 years ago!! I'm surprised Chubby is even still alive all these years later--much less that he's still performing in concerts(?!). Well, good for him! 😀
@@not-so-smartaleck8987 He is 82, only a few years over the life expectancy.
Well, if he was/is "chubby" that doesn't bode well for a long life (i.e., over the life expectancy), as I see it...just common sense.@@user-sj2wb1no7q
He is still alive??? Geez, he has got to be old, because I am!
I've said it before and i'll say it again; The older generations had the best music compared to music now
REAL

To prawda, najpiękniejsza muzyka lata 50 i 60❤
That is an absolute fact
Absolutely 🎉
I remember dancing to this song with my mom and sister, we had so much fun, miss those days
The fact this man held number 1 spot for decades and has only been finally passed up by the Weeknd I'm just proud to be black, we have revolutionized music and we keep going.
That’s really cool. Had no idea.
Every word you Said 👍👍👍
aaaaaaaavh
Yeah sure....
This record wasnt number 1 for decades, but it was a HUGE hit. Just like the other number ones.
I saw him in Vegas once and Little Richard in Nashville at the Peabody.
God bless this man. At 81 years of age, this living legend is STILL giving audiences the thrill of a lifetime!! "The Twist" has the sole recognition of being the ONLY RECORD EVER TO REACH #1 TWICE on the Billboard Hot 100 charts - both in 1960 AND 1962!!!! In 2008, Chubby's "Twist" was named "THE BIGGEST CHART HIT OF ALL TIME" by Billboard Magazine. To his own dismay, Ernest Evans (real name) was never elected into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, reducing that institution to little more than a meaningless farce. #rockandrollhalloffame
mariah carey’s reached #1 four different times with all i want for christmas is you
Amen! Let's teach our kids how fun this can be in 2023!
Well, I mean, it IS a cover song though, so it's tricky from the HoF point of view.
@@ThatBonsaipanda Chubby Checker had many hits, not just "The Twist."
The HoF is a scam from the industry.
I am 80 yrs. Old and I love this Music! 💕🎼🎵🎶💕. One Cool Grandmother! ! 😎
I'm almost 70, and love dancing to this!
notice how much fun these people are having !!
Oh the good old days. Where everybody was more civilized than today.
You said it! I’d go back in a second!
I'd GO back now !!!
Yes I agree 💯 1960,six years before I was born 💙
We weren’t civilized then either. SMH.
It's like you forgot about segregation lol
I mean everybody was doing this dance when it first came out! It made a giant hit mostly world-wide. Was fun living in the Golden Age of Rock N Roll!
Whose twisting in 2024 with me!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!
This song carried me to the new year!😍

Chubby Checker had such a great voice. We loved it. We twisted to this song for several years when I was a kid.
Me too. Us too.
Love it! I interviewed Chubby Checker one time, and enjoyed every second in his presence. Great guy, unforgettable music.
Sweet
Excuse me WHAT
Was the interview recorded or at least written into a transcript? I would love to see it! I'm sure a lot of other people here would as well.
what you think of spider-man 3 Tom?
I remember when my oldest sister went to see Chubby Checker in Atlantic City, New Jersey. So exciting! Back in those days, it was all about the dances and people had real fun. Everyone was working and nobody was rich, but most people had what they needed.
How do you make a super classic song even better? Whip up a delightful new music video that respects the original song! Love all that archival footage!
This is the original version
No more words needed
Just masterpiece...
It's not bro. Hank ballard wrote it
@@davejohn2158 There are lots of re-recorded version of "The Twist" by Chubby. This is the very first one.

The 1st time Hank heard chubby checker singing the twist he thought it was his version
A track that revolutionised the dance floor.
Brilliant.

I am going to see Chubby Checkers March 8th in Belleville Ont. Can't wait, was born in the 60's and can't believe I have this opportunity 🥰
This right here is how you become immortal!
Chubby Checker ❤
I can't believe he was 19 years old in this!!!
As someone who comes from the days of synthpop in the 1990s, I acknowledge older masterpieces like this.
Absolutely awesome song!!! 🐬❤️🌹
The Original Recording of this is the absolute best the background singing keeps the groove of this song immortal .
My grandmother played this for me while I was 6 she had it on a cassette tape it's something I'll always remember, I'm 18 now and I still love this song my grandmother passed away in 2017 overnight in a hospital after being airlifted it broke my heart so much knowing that I'll never be able to dance with her to this song again... I'll forever miss her.
My tater tot brought me here. She's discovered a new dance. Instead of just her jiggle, she's doing the twist now. But her version of the twist. Her twist is very serious & she's gotta assault a couple of things while she's doing it. Then claps
🤼This is probably one of the greatest songs in America of all times that brought everybody together everybody loves to do the twist 🤼🤘
Me Encanta 💯💚🇪🇦En los 60 éramos pequeños y mis ti@s y Madre lo bailaban‼️ gracias NunCA pasa de moda 🤩😍
Released in June 1960. The song got to #1 on the charts on September 19, 1960...and #1 again on January 13, 1962.The song became a MASSIVE hit across the country!!!
I love playing this song a little loud. My baby aint walking yet, she'll dance before that.❤
My baby's getting down too 😊
Timeless!.. great song 👍🎶
Sooooooooooooo True. 👍
Whats great about the twist is that its a pretty straightforward and easy dance to pull off. Meaning everyone on the dance floor can pick it up in minutes and even put their own little spin on it if desired. Fun song and dance which is now pretty much iconic. The scene in Madmen with Peggy twisting toward Pete was televised perfection.
Lo máximo 😂

Great songs like this will stand the test of time and will last forever and still play my 45 of this classic in 2021
No music written today will be remembered by 14 year olds 63 years from now when they are 77. There are no golden oldies being sung today like Chubby Checker's twist was in 1960. I was 10 years old in 1960 and loved that song then and still do at 73.
@MrSuzuki1187 guess you and I are a like, not only the same age but like the same classic songs that we love.
LOVE YOU CHUBBY CHECKER! THE KING!
This music never gets old....absolutely awesome :)
Fantástica,!!😅
I find the need to return to our roots
Don't you just wanna get up & start dancing when you hear this music?~~~~ Dance with Joy! & Freedom ☆☆☆☆☆♡
They will still be playing this song and dancing the twist in 2300 and beyond.
Now in my 60s I need to watch my hips!!!!❤😂
The music 🎶 of the 1960s was just great I hope it comes back again 🎵🇺🇸💯👍
It never left❤
Saw him around 1980 at the Warren county Fair in Pennsylvania. He is truly a great preformer and music legend.
CheckerMan has moves! I want to move like him, dances like these never get old in my eyes along with the Great songs and singers to go with them!
Can't get enough of your music
Oh how I remember, that was some fun times, born in the forties ❤😂
I did the twist on stage with chubby checker in 1991.
That’s wonderful. I am sure you enjoyed the experience then, and cherish the memory even more now!
@@Betty-wu6hf Was it American Bandstand?
I am 78 years old, and I still Twist
As a big 7-3 still walking, talking, styling and profiling, I will say in many respects, this song set the stage for the 60's. Some trivia: President Kennedy did twist with Jackie for the cameras. I remember the fun of the 60's while twisting the night away~~~Rock on Brothers and Sisters
Chubby is an ICON in the annals of music dance/performance and music history and I am very grateful that these wonderful clips exist on YT and are available to hundreds of generations to come (barring any silly nuclear events of course ;).

When I was a young teen me and my best friend went to see Chubby. It was so crowded so we were up by the stage. When he came out we could hardly breathe, he was so tall and handsome!! One of my best memories ❤❤
so so so great....the first and ultimate song of the "twist craze." Look how adorable Chubby Checker was!!
I can remember doing the twist just like this video. So Great.. brings back so many memories.. Never forget.. how great it was.
This song has been stuck in my head all weekend lol
My mother who is 88years old with dementia listen now and said I must send a message to say thank you for this video
One of the reasons that I so cherish my friendship with my NINETY-SIX (96) YEAR-OLD friend Gene, are the glimpses that he provides me into History's past. When Gene was a boy growing up in Mississippi in the early 1940's, he and his mother had to scrub their clothes on a washboard to get them clean.
In the 1940's when "Chubby Checker" saw his 1st automatic washing machine, it was REVOLUTIONARY! No longer would he have to toil at the washboard, getting less than ideal results. Chubby was tickled by the "twisting" motion that the machine made as it agitated the clothes in the soapy water. He laughed, "Won't you look at that thing TWIST!"
And.. the rest is "Music History!" Knowing that Paul McCartney was a huge fan of Buddy Holly specifically and American Rock & Roll, in general, I guess that Chubby Checker's hit song inspired Paul & John to write "Twist & Shout."
Music that is actually fun and makes you want to dance
I love this song , because it makes me love myself !!! Thank-you chubby
I am! still twisting!! 2024
My little granddaughter is 2 yrs & 3mths old when she first heard the twist by Chubby she went ballistic with joy .Also loves Sugar Sugar by the Archies, lm 66 & danced the twist with the man himself on stage over 40 yrs ago when he toured Aust. What a great time for music stay healthy & keep on twistin Chubby.
Saw this man this week at a casino this man's a legend.
Wish I wasn't single 😢feel like dancing
Hank Ballard wrote it and recorded it first. Chubby Checker turned it into a monster classic for Parkway. And ironically, it's only a tiny fraction of his vast and most impressive recorded legacy. Kudos to ABKCO Records for FINALLY getting the ball rolling (twisting?) on putting the vaunted Cameo/Parkway label catalog back in print.
Dick Clark, politics & the TELL-LIE-VISION, not Chubby, turned it to a monster. But thank you for paying dad some homepage. #7God🕵
@@daryleballard4912 ALWAYS a pleasure, good sir. As you are probably aware, I interviewed your father at great length in Blitz Magazine in the 1980s. An extraordinarily brilliant man. Spending an afternoon with him was like taking a graduate level crash course in the industry. He is greatly missed.

Chubby Checker the man that made the twist, the dance you had to do in the 60,s and to this day.
@CHUBBY CHECKER{=✓Thanks but We forget this song hit the radio in MID JULY and HIT #1 AUGUST tru SEPTEMBER 1960 but did what hardly any OTHER song did=== IT CAME BACK TO #1 during DECEMBER 1961 tru JANUARY 1962 and was STILL HEARD ON RADIO truout FEBRUARY 1962 !!!!!
I was good for dancing this rhythm, and can still dance it at my 77 years. I rememeber it caught as a fad in 1961 and continued in 1962, but in 1963 the Bossa Nova took its place.
The twist dance evolves in go-go around 1964
My baby said no not cool brudda. They done stole my moves

Pure magic. He was so handsome in that period.
