Who else remembers in Battlefront II (2005) when they just gave the Rebel Alliance a clone LAAT gunship to use as a dropship in space maps, because there wasn't really anything else to use?

Despite the LAAT taking my vote, I adore the Droid Gunship. The fact that it is a droid in-and-of itself is a major plus. No living pilot means no possibility for 'human' error. If its told to, it can go in and out without question, or mercilessly slaughter an entire town without hesitation.
Standard CIS malfunctions notwithstanding, of course.

Using the imperial patrol transport for the empire transport is like saying the U.S military uses a swat van to transport troopers and then comparing the swat van to three apcs.

Well that's just not true, even the lambda shuttle was armed.
True, but I think it would've gotten 4th anyway. 3rd at best. It may beat out the U wing, but the HMP and LAAT are easily superior.
Maybe if they used Lambda in this list, it would get into 3rd. It's still armed, though not as heavily armed as a proper gunship, but it said it's sturdy as hell. Even doesn't have overall fire-power, it's laser cannons are still good and spread out around the ship. Lambda-class shuttle after all are used by high ranking officials too, so it's defensive capabilities must be really good.
Not to mention that still Empire have proper gunships such as Ye-4 Gunship.
The problem is that on movies, we never really saw the Empire using other gunships at all. Only the Lambda-class shuttle which is mostly used by high ranking officials or special forces instead. Even on TV series such as on Rebels I think, except for one that on this list, which is not really a military-grade and not design on mind to be used for proper military.

Technological advancement is kind of a loose term in Star Wars when all the technology seems to be pretty stagnant for thousands of years. Things seem to simply get bigger with more guns. The CIS has the most impressively varied and adaptive collection of vehicles I've ever seen. The fact that they're droids means they don't require lengthy training and are relatively easy to replace. Give a few of those units enhanced AI and equipment like an ace droid starfighter and they could devastate nearly any opponent.
He usually does lower their rank though. Simply due to his bias towards organics.
Darwin Xavier Completely agree. Also the first order doesn't have the numbers that the CIS has, they would outnumber them like they did with the clones.
One of the most iconic Dropship is the LAAT. I really liked this ship in the TV show

it makes even more sense when considering where the majority of encountered fire would come from.
its a dropship so most fire would be AA fire from the ground so having the tropp department between the incoming fire and the tech means extra layers of armor for it (at the expense of the cargo but we all know that the GAR didnt give a sh*t about their troopers...)

But doesn't the Empire have those dropships that kinda look like the Lambda class ferry but have a bigger hold? They can be seen in the background of the scene with the sandtroopers on Tatooine I think

@@clone9159 Are you sure? They have shields, many weapons, and they can carry 75 troops, 12 E-webs and 6 speeder bikes. They can also carry 2 AT-ST's or very many speeders. (I don't remember how many.) It can also carry other small vehicles. It's speed was between tie-fighter and tie-bomber. It had also better faster lightspeed than imperial star destroyer. Only weapon it didn't have was turret at the back. It also took 4 humans to fly and use the weapons. But still, I think it's better than police gunship.

If. You play empire at war and deploy at st and stormtroopers or a heavier vehicle you get 2 different types of lambdas
They were used in rebels a lot and in it hera syndulla said when stuck planet side in it that shields were weak, it was slow, and only 2 laser turrets. But it was meant to be a cargo version, not a dropship

U-wing also has hyperdrive, others dont.
i think that pushes for it to be a specialized/covert ops transport even more since it could fly solo to places and get in without having a fleet being a dead giveaway
U wing is one of the best here.
Just because it can travel to other systems by itself doesn't mean it's a good dropship. Besides, it usually goes places within a larger ship unless the mission calls for stealth.
Matthias haveing a ftl means you can deploy beyond the range of a planets weapons and sensors. Or jump with your fleet greatly expanding your speed and surprise factor

The U-wing has a hyperdrive something none of the others have.
Mr Kric I think the droid one does. I may be wrong but there was one episode of Clone Wars where droids invaded a transport ship with the dutchess of mandalor on it. It seemed to me those ships came out of nowhere so i am assuming they came out of hyperspace.
Sam Mabie those are not the same dropships eck talked about. These ships you refer to where used to break escape pods in one episode of the clone wars (S1E2) so i am not sure if they are actual dropships.

I watched that scene again. It was clearly the same gunship. And it came really fast. But super battle droids with jets fly around that. So it can't came out of hyperspace at that moment. But the scanners couldn't find it before the ships wanted to jumo into hyperspace. Very difficult to tell
The LAAT does have a sheild. It's clearly seen in episode 2 ATOC. The LAAT carrying Obi-Wan & Anikan takes many shots from Geonosian fighters. These shots explode prematurely because they are hitting it's sheilds.
Only question I have is why wasn't the LAAT using it's rear gun at all to fire the pursuing enemy ships?
Don't the sheilds have to be down in order to return fire?
That shield is called plot armor, other LAAT dies from single shot
I must say, I'm surprisingly happy that the CIS won this one. Since the Republic often won in these videos, I was almost starting to root for the other 3. Great video!

Personally I’d put the LAAT in #1 despite a lack of shields just because of the variants that can also drop in AT-TE's

Emperor Demon - the FO Drop ship? Hummmmmm... well it isn't big in the Armament department, only really having that top mounted gun for clearing the landing zone/suppressing fire. Decent troop capacity, especially if you consider it to the ships overall volume(it's basically a flying box full of Stormtroopers), I would put it between the LAAT and the imperial -riot chopper- dropship.

I always thought that Rogue one really missed a golden opportunity by not equipping the U-Wing with a Dorsal Turret right behind the canopy (there's literally a circle there for a bubble turret to fit in perfectly too)
Surely a Sentinal Class ship would have been more suitable as the representative dropship for the Empire?
It can carry around 54 men, has decent weapons and a shield.
I do agree with you the LAAT/i could have used a shielding to it one of its flaws but gotta say its always been my favorite gunship love the style of it nice vids man keep em comin!!
In the Attack of the Clone novel it mentioned shields on the LAAT/i, but we never saw them in a movie or TV series. On the other hand in about 90% of all Venator-class battle scenes we did not see shields either.

I completely agree with your list but I think from the perspective of a general that the LAAT is a better vehicle then the droid gunship because it can carry ammo and small vehicles plus it can carry droids and living beings. The droid gunship can’t. So from the point of which is the best in statistics. The droid gunship is the best but I would rather have the laat because of its versatility in carrying abilities
+dwayne collignon, actually if you watch the LAAT drops troops off faster than the HMP because as soon as the LAAT is like 1 meter off the ground clones just jump out and it takes off again in like 5 seconds while the HMP has to unload droids 2 by 2.
Why would you want people on and HMP if your army is a Droid Army? And the LAAT can carry extremely small gadgets.

@@Lego_Chewbacca Gunship is slang name of specialized attack crafts and assault transports. Both LAAT and HMP are heavily armed and designed to transport ground forces. They are gunships. Sentinel was heavy transport, what usually is not the case with gunships. Though it is relatively heavy armed for such large transport. So after rethinking it, I would say that it could be considered as gunship, but I wouldn't really use it that way. You don't put too many eggs in one basket under heavy fire.

How would this comparison have looked like if the Empire had the IDT/Imperial Dropship Transport (the thing from 0:46)? Both of your choices for the "best ground vehicle" video and this one for the Empire confuse me. In the former, you put an All Terrain Armoured Transport without the armoured or the transport part against mobile comand centres, a better AT-AT and something that's literally called "Supertank". In this video, you compare a heavy gunship with missiles that can carry troops, a heavier gunship with more missiles that can carry troops and dedicated troop transport with * drumroll * ...a police car. I'm not hating on you or anything, but I really don't understand what thought process led to you putting a (flying) police car (with missiles) up against dedicated war machines.

if I designed the LAAT, I would have added a shield generator to make it faster and durable and have a rapid-fire missile launcher, easily number 1 in that case
You forgot to mention that the LAAT can travel in space. This allows it do it job without needing to get its carrier into atmosphere, significantly shortening how long the mission needs to be. This is best shown at the end of the Citadel arc in TCW. Good list and good video.
I love that in Rouge One they took a lot of influence from the Vietnam War. They had similar outfits to U.S Soldiers and the U-Wing having similar roles to a Huey helicopter.

The HMP beats simply not only for its nice armament but also low cost and easily modified for other types for transport also an AI is controling it so it opens to much more manouvering

The Sentinel class shuttle would do better in this video. I don't think you should have chosen the police style gunship because it was mainly used to defend occupied territories. I personally think that the dropship seen in the force unleashed is the best for the Galactic Empire.
The gunship shown in this video simply doesn't even compare to the other 3. The same thing was done with the walkers video.

I think the Police Dropship was perfectly designed to be used within Coruscants narrow streets but then horribly adapted and kind of misused by the empire when they took it into vast plains like these on Lothal. Besides that, I completely agree with your ranking 1-3. Great Vid as always
I would have preferred that you look at gunships separately in their own videos, since dropships and gunships have rather different design criteria. Yes one is often used as the other, sometimes through modifications, but they are distinct roles.

My favorite of these 4 would be the LAT, used by the galactic republic, but because of the shield problem, I might have to do some tinkering with it.

A specific memory I have with the LAAT gunship is when I was playing Battlefront 1 Classic, I was having a ton of trouble with the Geonosis mission in the campaign. But one time I lucked out and got into an LAAT with the final remaining clone trooper. And for whatever reason, no other clone troopers would spawn for the CIS to kill and end the game. So that last AI clone and I just flew around for who knows how long and won the game

For Coruscant's case, it somewhat depends on the planetary shields. Because if the Zergs sneak through the population of the planet would hugely work against the defenders' favor.

My favorite thing about the laat is that against normal gunfire it can be mobile cover with the slats in the doors, and the fact that you can close one door and open the other one, making it like a mobile base too

I think the U-wing can also be used as a lightweight support gunship by mounting guns and lightweight launchers on the doors to suppress fire, knock out emplacements and if lucky like in R1, destroy armored vehicles.
While the CIS is my least favorite faction, it is an interesting surprise to see them win of these comparisons for once.
I've not seen every one of these, but this is the first I've seen with a CIS candidate being seen as best.

6:02 you forgot that u wing has a stand that could be switching infantry mounted heavy weapons ( it mainly uses ion cannons which is highly devastating against the AT-ATC in rogue one)
I love the look of the police gunship, but the LAAT is so badass when it flies in with lasers sweeping across dozens of enemies!

there was a lego gunship I made once which was based off the U-Wing (same kind of S-Foils), but armed to the teeth; it had 2 anti-personnel laser cannons, 2 ion cannons, 2 ordnance launchers, 1 heavy turbolaser, and a turret equipped with 2 medium laser cannons and 2 light rotary laser cannons. It’s size would have had to be increased for power requirements, which has the added benefit of more troops carried
