Definitely do the Dino video soooon. Just started to see it in my tank and it’s starting to worry me. Be interesting to hear your techniques. Will not have time to get on it till the weekend
The tank looks great. The growth has been really good and it's starting to fill in nicely. Your fish are deseptively huge. The Monos look awesome. I did not want to comment about the back glass cuz i know its a pita but now that is it done it does look 1000% better. Great job.
Tip to catch fish in large tanks... buy some matten filter pads.. use them to section off areas little by little till you are able to condense and capture the fish you want to remove into a 24x24 area.. then using a 10-12” net it’s a simple task. Works great but need to first make sure you place around corals so the fish don’t panic and run into them and get injured. Will take $100 worth of matten and 1-2 hours the first time to figure out exactly how to size and work the tank with several pieces but once you master it you can do it in 10-15min next time. Basically think of it like building a sump with baffled trapping the fish into different sections..
I think I caught mine early. Only have 20 gallon system. Added bunch of corals, fuge with chaeto, and pods. I believe my levels bottomed out with my cuc.
I decided to view this video on my TV and wow your tank looks amazing. Do you use a filter when filming? I love being able to see the beautiful colors of your coral
Hi Hex- do you have any plans for getting alk monitor/trident given the alkalinity spike you experienced? If yes which one would you want to try? Also given how packed your tank is any thoughts about upgrading soon and what size and manufacturer? Custom again or someone else? And how do you like your 300 now after all this time- likes/dislikes/changes you would make? Thanks and beautiful reef
It may be possible that the alkalinity spiked due to the removal of all the coralline algae from the back glass. Has anyone else experienced this when giving their tanks a good clean?
I love your tank bro! Very well stocked and balanced. What do you do with all your frags? If you sell them, what does a subscriber have to do to get some of them?
Man the tank looks awesome!!! I’m not sure with your scape if you gonna get any fuller you’ll be looking at the bottom of the corals instead of the top lol
I had dino after 1 year into my reef tank. I added hair algae from the lfs and dose phosphate and fed like crazy. Took about a month and a half. Definitely not the best way to go about it but it work in the long run. Browned some sps temporarily though
About a week ago I started to get dinos in my 90 gallon. Initially I had one hob octo 2000 skimmer, decided to add another octo 1000 2 months later.. 2 weeks after I noticed dinos popping up tested all my waters, all parameters where ok except nitrates and phosphates. Nitrates where at 2 and phosphates at 0 no trace at all. I realized I had depleted all nutrients. I turned off all skimmers 2 days ago started heavy fish feeding and added a bottle of beneficial bacteria. Broadcasted reef roids and fuel daily. Noticed small differences not really. My corals seem really irritated from the change. I tested the waters again now my nitrates where at 25 and phosphates at 0.25. Do I turn one skimmer on and keep adding reef roids and fuel. Need some advice. Thanks in advance
I see how the color took a quick hit, glad you're able to get it back. So this is where I complain about not getting enough free coral? Hahaha jk not going to do that. Hope you're having a lovely day
Ever in upstate NY and want to see an absolute ball busting mystery, check out my reef. Some corals live, some die. I can’t keep the easiest of corals alive, yes somehow keep an acro alive. I’ve had a green birds nest from you alive for months, then it rtn’d and died. No growth, yet good numbers and lighting. I just don’t get it.

I've been battling for over 2 years, trying many different option, none of which work. Might drive me out of the hobby.
I must add that I think I have dinos, not diatoms. Mine are not snotty.
