- In this video, we'll show you how to fix land rover lr3 suspension problems using a simple DIY fix.
If your land rover lr3 won't raise and the air suspension isn't working, then this fix is for you! We'll show you how to adjust the chassis and coil springs, and solve your suspension problems in just a few minutes! After watching this video, your land rover lr3 will be back to normal and you'll be able to enjoy the smooth ride again!
Now my Lr3 will raise and lift up, I solved my Land Rover suspension problem in 3 easy procedures. First, I raised my lr3 and measured the height and then I check for any air leaking from the air struts. Next, I pull out the height adjustment fuse and let it stay overnight. Finally, I inspected the relief valve block.
If your Land Rover Lr3 is low in the morning or it's rising slowly. Then, this video will solve or at least point you in the right direction in getting your Land Rover suspension fixed.

Great video sir. I am a new owner of a 2008 LR3, and started noticing that it was bowing to me every morning. Took it to a Land Rover specialist and was told I needed $2043 in new air bags. I had seen your channel before I bought the LR3 so I took my LR3 home and did my own testing. Put it in extended height mode, measured, let it sit for 14 hours, re-measured and had lost 3/4" all the way around. I am now doing the second test with the fuse removed. I am feeling very optimistic :) I will let you know my results.
how did it go?
@@maryakumu9264 it unfortunately didn't work. I needed two new shocks. Different mechanic tested with soap and water and the air bags were leaking. Swapped the air struts and it has been perfect since. I have put 25000 miles on the LR3 since this and it never has an issue.
@@johnturner9924 did it ride any smoother with new front shocks?
@Bob Honesty, my lr3 rode Iike a Cadillac before and after. The only difference was the kneeling stopped.
@@Physics072 I should say mine had a very slow leak. There was no issue with ride height etc while driving or sitting. Only when it sat for 18-24 hours it would leak down , but inflated right up when you started the engine.
I have owned 3 land cruisers prior to purchasing my lr3. Just love the air suspension. Thank you for all your great help. My lr3 has 208 000 miles used offroad weekly.
Hola, adquiri un LR3 y estoy teniendo exactamente esos problemas. Voy a empezar mi prueba asi como tu empezaste. Luego te digo lo que concluya. Muchas Gracias.
Nice work on the video.
Your height adjustment sensors are basically a variable resistor that tells the computer where the suspension is. If you have a Rover that has navigation, you can pull up the 4x4 menu, then watch each sensor as you raise and lower the vehicle. If you see any of the sensor locators jumping around, you have a bad ride height sensor on that corner. You will know which one is bad, because the other sensors will be moving smoothly throughout their operation while going up and down.
Hope this helps someone!
Mine sit below the lines.. compressor turns on.. then off.. lights turning off inside also.. can u help me out with this problem
@@caspernoble9468 I will try. When the vehicle is on, you are inside, all of the doors are closed, set the vehicle to its highest position. (does it go up?) if it goes up, wait until it's at max height, then get out and listen at each wheel very closely and try to hear any air leaking (basically a hissing sound). If you hear air leaking (hissing noise) from a specific corner, you will want to get a spray bottle with soapy water mixed up in it, jack up the car (safely) pull the tire/wheel off of that corner then spray down the air connections to see if you see air bubbles, if no air bubbles, try spraying up into the rubber portion of the shock absorber, again look for bubbles. If you see bubbles at any one of these steps you will need to fix that before moving forward, as that is probably your issue.
Good info my LR3 is having somewhat of a similar problem
While I’m driving that light comes on and then I get the suspension fault indicator. Sometimes it even goes further than that when the vehicle is in motion I get that same light but in red and the vehicle starts releasing all the air.
It just might be your valve block.
@@oxmanagain did you fix it? cause I get the same thing now
@@marlonavontuur5432 yes when I change the relief valve I didn't lose air and it didn't sag anymore. The light still came on and then I had to change one of my height adjustment sensors and that was my cause for having the light come on.
I would suggest you measure the height on both sides and whichever one is a little lower that height adjustment sensor on that side might be your issue.
if both fronts are lowering then generally its the front valve block if one side was badly dropped then air leak in shock or airline may be broken. the front block same as the rear is designed to send air independently to ether side. so instead of having 4 blocks for one each side of the car there is 3 front, middle, and rear...but in the block itself there is 3 valves 1 valve for left side 1 for right side and another valve for air to enter the block. best thing to do is change the block. then if its still lowering or air leaking check teh air bag/struct...if you think the height sensor with or without lift rods if 1 side was to lower the other side would follow and lower or higher. if not broken and what i mean is like if 1 side is dead on bump stop and the other side is at normal height. then that's obvious its a height sensor but in this case where 1 side is only dropping a little bit but other side is not then i would be changing air block. because that's the first thing to receive air from middle block first...so before the bags get air the blocks get it first.....hope this helps. i had the same problem with my discovery 3 but all 4 was dead on bump stops and after changing just the front air block i stood up and went hang on if all 4 are down then its gotta be middle block because thats the first block to receive air from the compressor, or its the compressor it self or 1 other thing, and there was literally 1 other thing ?.. i'll let you take a guess first
I appreciate you sharing your experience and giving a lot of value. That's what I love about UA-cam the most it's a large community helping each other when it done the right way. Thanks for watching and I appreciate your time.

You didn't say whether it was the valve block or a sensor..?
It was the valve block
@@oxmanagain thanks. I'm still on all original as it rolled off the production line except the module/sensor under rear seat floor pan. I have 08 with ~180k miles. All works still but when parked sinks over a few days and a little slower to come up. Great video. Thanks.
I wish I could bring my truck to you.
I've had a few people say something on those lines. What's the matter with your Rover, if anything?
I had been having the exact same issue! I had my LR certified mechanic watch this. He shook his head, laughed, and replaced the relief valve. He had run diagnostics, which DID NOT report a problem, and was able to show them to me. But this fixed it. One other issue that it was not was older Johnson rods ("...this little arm"..."), which can wear out. Land Rover, making mechanics out of owners for over 40 years! I love this thing.
What a great story. I'm glad the video was able to you and your mechanic out. I'm with you I really really really love my Rover. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your new ride.
@@oxmanagain - My car went in on Thursday, this video came out, I saw it, and immediately forwarded it to my mechanic, because he was at wits end. I was in for an oil change and for him to check it over before an offroad road trip. I got the car back yesterday, measured it this morning... No change. This has been going on for almost a year. Thanks man! And, thanks for the Grappler G2 recommendation.
Anything to help a fellow Rover owner. Enjoy your trip be safe and have fun.
How do I get in touch with you?
So it was your Johnson rods that was the issue? I have them and am getting suspension faults when ever I drive more than 100 miles on the highway.
Hey man I have a question. Mines been saying suspension fault for the longest. It would raise and or drop on its on. Well I just got new plugs and wires the other day. Now it's lowered and will not raise up. It has a suspension fault normal height only blinking light. Any info on that?
I had this happen to me before as well. What I did until I fixed my valve block was. I would start the car open the door until air compressor stopped and then close the door and it would raise up. You have to make sure the air suspension fault is off. So again turn the car off open the door start it up as soon as the light is off let the compressors fill up and then hopefully it should work. I hope that works for you.
@@oxmanagainthank you for the message I appreciate you trying to help. I'm going to try that right now. I take some weird roads and the bottom touched the ground sometimes n I hate that sound ha. Thank you
Good diagnostic work. Will be interesting to see what the problem turns out to be. Real men can fix their own Land Rovers👍
On the P38 Range Rover there is a relay under the driver's seat that is part of the self-leveling system. Set the car to off-road height and remove that relay. If you have a leaky air bag it will sink only at that corner.
Wish I could give more than one thumbs up! Really love my 2006 LR3 and love your videos!
Comments like yours is what keep me going. I appreciate your time your support and thanks for the commenting. Thanks for watching and you have a nice day
Been pulling my hair out trying to sort this exact problem, great video mate. Thanks
Thanks for the video, mate. I'm still in the market for a Disco 3, and it's hard to filter out the noise about them being unreliable, problematic etc, mostly from people who've never actually owned one. So, to see first hand experience of what can happen, presented with a solution for a DIY mechanic with even my limited skills, is really reassuring. Cheers, from Australia.
I appreciate your comment and if you have any specific questions feel free to ask. Have a nice day from around the world.
@@oxmanagain How many times over the course of your LR3 ownership would you say you've had to fix something with the air suspension?
@@themancuniancandidate2744 idk if you are still looking for one but we’ve had to get air suspension services like 3 times
Thanks man for the information, i guessed the Leake issue with the airbags, may be it Leake from the head, just fixed it and let use know how you solve the problem, good luck
great video/tutorial still new to Landrover & loving it, I have the same issue, did you finally narrow down to what was the exact problem between the height sensor or the relief valve block?
Was it the valve block or the sensor?
Why not drive it without fuse? What if it's temporary like to get home or something?
What if ur 2006 rover is stuck in high suspension and wont lower? Im new and green on this so any help great
If you drive over 30 miles an hour you should automatically start to Lower. That's something I've never heard of being an issue. I would assume it is the height of Jasmine sensors that are causing the problem.
Once again you’re videos are amazing and extremely informative. Thank you!
Congratulations, you made 13 min video, that was clear, very informative, helpful and had no wasted time! Thank you. Also I may not be exactly correct.. but for anyone not comfortable with pulling fuses.. you can also leave a door or the tailgate door just slightly ajar, overnight.. did it on my RR Sport. That will also not let it drop.
Honestly, I was a bit heartbroken when it sagged at the end, hopefully it was just one of the Vblock solenoids.. I believe there a 3.. let us all know what the solution ended up being.
Great video. Nice one. Respect to your content 🇿🇦🔥🔥
Walk I just saw. Is that why I get that amber picture of the vehicle?
What are the other issue you have?
My L320 was down on n/s front . Set system to full height . Got out listened for a possible leak . Found it forward of the strut . Result wheel off splash guard off there it was dosed pipe. 2inches forward of the pipe push fit connection .. . Ordered a new connector. Taped up the pipe. It held height . Will change the pipe connector remove the damaged section as there's plenty to work with . Reconnect job done . I can't believe the amount of people talk rubbish about air sus. Its just not that complicated . In real terms its either compressor / condenser. Valve block, shock or pipes . Its worth the hassle for the ride quality . Most that slag off LR motors obviously don't have one . Yes somethings are a pain in the ass but not as expensive as the internet ney sayers would have you believe . Great videos buddy . Very informative keep up the good work 👍
Great video, I own a 2008 LR3 SE V8 with 84k miles, your videos are helpful the Land Rover dealer would tell you you need all four new air shocks.
if you have a problem with the suspension airbags, you can purchase just the airbags from arrnott industries.
I'm having this issue right now on my 2012 Range Rover Supercharger Sport....
I will start diagnosing tomorrow..... Thank you
Did your compressor turn off.. then the inside lights.. having this problem with my L322 now
You're supposed to push up on the valve block to move those rubber grommets to the larger holes where they can slip out but I suppose there's more than one way to skin a cat. Good video. Just rebuilt the rear valve block.
I own a 2006 LR3 SE with 130k miles on it and love it, like I said before there is nothing like a Rover !

Where is the big finish? You kinda left the viewers hanging on this video. Did the new relief valve solve the problem?
Yes, the relief valve was the problem. You make a good point. My reason for making the video was to just show you how to diagnose the problem but I do understand your point.
@@oxmanagain Good to hear the LR3 is back in action...I enjoy your videos
Hey man I love all your videos I have a 2006 it’s always giving HDC system fault I replaced all my air suspensions but still the rover is not lifting it’s sleeping on 1 side ( I charged a dead battery and fitted it) if you could help it would be great thank you
Great Land Rover videos! I've watched them all. Just recently had this same suspension issue and your video helped me diagnose the problem. However when I installed the replacement front valve block and started the engine the front suspension raised up fine but immediately started to lower. The compressor kept running and airing it back up but it wouldn't stay up. So I re-installed the old/original block and it aired up and stayed (until the next morning, as I had already diagnosed the slow leak) I guessing that the new block is faulty, as I've read from several amazon reviewers. But also wondering if it made a mistake on the installation. I did notice that the new block comes with new brass fittings. I didn't really know how to replace these so just ended up screwing the old/original ones directly into the new block. Could this have been the problem? I wouldn't think so as they seem to work fine on the original block. So I'm confused on how to proceed with fixing this issue. Thanks so much for your help!!
Thx a lot man.
Hi Mate, in my LR3 TDV6, the light comes on and goes away as soon as I turn on the engine. If I remember correctly, the problem appeared after restoring the left rear wheel which was punctured. Where could the problem be? Tire pressure not the same as the other 3 wheels? Or could there be a leak? Many Thanks. Very good video 💪
A great video. It's easy to get into procrastination when it comes to LR and RR suspension. Having just replaced the front air struts (157,00 miles - they were original parts) this just confirmed for me that there were no other problems. Simple and easy to follow and understand. Thanks.
Brilliant video, great presenter, very comprehensive 👍😎🤙😎
I appreciate the comment and the compliment. Thanks for watching. By the way, what year Rover do you own?
My 2005 LR3 just started shoing a suspension fault. i raised the vehicle to off-road height and could hear the passenger side leaking. what brand of replacement do you recommend. BTW, thanks for the helpful video.
By far the most informative video on this common EAS issue. Like all other commentators & reluctant DIY mechanics who love Land Rovers, this video is a lifesaver!
Thanks... So the cheaper sensors work? My compressor turns on for like a minute.. then the height lights turn off.. truck is in regular height mode..

This didn’t work, I even replaced my compressor
Anyone in Los Angeles knows a great mechanic for the lr3 the not expensive
Do you recommend this approach for all air suspension faults?
My 2007 LR3 has a suspension fault that says “do not exceed 30mph” and then “slow down or suspension will lower.” It pumps up, but I can’t get it down to regular ride height. Ideas?
So after you go above 30 does it return back to normal ride height?

I have the same model of yours and would love to add some cosmetic upgrades. Also have you had an issue with your rear parking aid sensors? Known of a quick fix? Cheers from Canada.
First off, thanks for all your support. I haven't had any problems with the sensors and I still just use the stock radio. I will do some research for you.
@@oxmanagain you're the man. There are a few videos out there regarding the sensors and disconnecting the rear bumper, however they're not as user friendly or as detailed as your videos. Same for the headmounts replacing the stock radio for LR3. There are models in the $200-300 range that are android/apple and have google maps/Bluetooth calls, and Spotify/apple music. This was very helpful in diagnosing my new to me lr3 that has the light come on once you start driving, waiting on parts to arrive that hopefully fix it!
If that fuse was bad, would you still have the same problem ??
Thanks ❤ good information
Hi there I had a slightly different lifting problem on my Rover Lr4; my Rover stopped lifting and left a message that "only normal lifting height was available", so that the Rover jerked a lot when driving. I drove the Rover like this with great difficulty for a few days and then parked it for a few days; to my surprise, yesterday morning I found the Rover with the suspension high! I left it like that for 24 hours and it's still like that, it hasn't gone down. I'm afraid to drive it. My question is the following: why did the Rover suddenly go down, then no longer go up and now it suddenly returns to a good driving height?
I would check your fuses and relays. That sounds like it has something to do with the electronic side. The fact that it could rise on its own indicates that there's no leaks in the line and that it is working, so it has to be something within the electronic system. That's me just guessing.
I like the way you explain everything
AWESOME!!! I'm so excited I found your channel. I'm interested in purchasing a 2016 LR4 HSE LUX. What should I look for in this vehicle to make sure I am making a wise choice/purchase?
If you plan on offroading Make sure you find one with a 2 speed transfer case. I’d you Can also find one with an HD pack as well, even better. Other than that super solid.
All that diagnostic time and you didn’t share what your final problem was. Was it the sensor or was it the valve block? Might have been the air line from compressor
It turned out to be my valve block. I replaced it and then everything was fine. I haven't had any issues with the air suspension since that day to now.
Why is it That it’s the right hand side seems to be the side that goes down all the time ??
Maybe because that's where the valve block is.
@@oxmanagain I never thought of that I’ll soon change it see if it’s that cause 👍👍
Another possibility could be you have a leak in your air strut on that side. I would use the soapy solution to see if any air is coming out of your airsturt

Have you fixedyour problem?
I started my lr3 Land Rover and it started, when I turned it off and tried to start it again it wouldn’t start and the four way flasher kept flashing, but after a few hours it would start. Please advise me . Thanks
The first thing I would look at would be your battery. Once the battery starts going down a whole lot of things act funny.
What a clean vehicle, no rust at all. I have some rusty bottom in my 2012, but still in much better shape than other cars
Realizing this is a year or so old now, @oxmanagain, if the height stays solid overnight with the fuse pulled it is down to the relief valve or the block?
The relief valves play a major part in the air suspension system. After that your height sensors come into play then your compressor. Obviously if the Rover is still up you don't have a leak in the airbags. What is the problem exactly? The more minds you put on this the sooner it can get fixed
Less worrys driving around in a tank
Great video, very thorough indeed, but will you be able to make it to the fuel station?
You noticed the low fuel light flashing🤭
Great video however, what actually was the problem with your suspension?
The Rover was sagging on one side in the front and I thought it was the air strut. It turned out to be the valve block and once I fixed it that solved my suspension problem. Thanks for watching.
Get my sport back tomorrow its hard a new bag front left and my mechanic said its still saggin but not losing air like previous i wil report backafter the weekend once i finish this fix

yikes ! I NEED HELP.....the ROVER mechanic i like to use diagnosed my "Suspension Failure" as a failing compressor ! I drive a 2006 LR3 with 160K miles. Does anyone have recommendation for where to buy the compressor and to have it installed ? I live in Ventura, CA ... will travel ... 80five-three four zero-15 zero-eight or ace in ventura at Gmail
I am a bit confused: It very well explains why disable the height adjustment system. Then at 08:33, height is < 34in and leaning forward and you say that its a leak. Which makes sense. But the conclusion of the video is about replacing the height adjustment system. The only way this would have been a height adjustment system is if overnight the height did not drop but at 08:33 it seems it dropped and indicates a leak.
You are 100% correct it was the valve box and not the height adjustment sensor. I concluded at the end of the video with the height adjustment sensors because of prior questions on other videos asking how much would it cost. So to fix your entire system is still worth the time and effort versus switching over to coils. You are 100% correct it was the valve blocks.
@@oxmanagain thank you 1) for the quick reply 2) more importantly for putting this thorough video. Before watching this video, I would have had no clue how the suspension system operated and whatever the mechanic said would have been latin. It was so thorough in its explanation that I could not make the connection in two of the parts. Thanks for doing this. And my favorite part 'a minute for you, a day for me'
You can rebuild the block for 20 dollars and possibly nothing buy simply cleaning it When the compressor Starts getting old the drying beads breakdown and cause contaminants to go through the system cleaning the block can’t fix I replaced the O-rings probably didn’t need to they were in good shape
My front won't even raise. It comes up saying the front is raising slowly
It could be one of three things. You could have a leak in the airbag, the valve block is leaking or the height adjustment sensor is acting up.
So is real pleasure to listen to you you know what you’re talking about Eddie from UK living in Italy moving back to the UK buying the same car as you’ve got online so when it’s delivered I hope I don’t have these kind of problems I’m only paying £8000 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Hello from Cambodia, I've got a RRS 2006, 2.7td with height level issues similar to this video information.
The passenger side is always lower than the drivers side, plus the front deflates over night.
How can l recalibrate those height sensors without the special plugin EAS reader? I watched a guy on YT from Germany who made adjustable link arms, so he could increase or decrease the angle.
This fooled the ECU and he could balanced each individual wheel, any recommendations will be much appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.
I am totally slammed. I have a 2006 LR3 HSE and I still don’t know what is causing the issue. Should I just go with coils?
Valve body can leak internally back into the system so it might not bubble
If both are down in front its probably the valve body
I got a Land rover 2012 LR4 and want/ need to change my rear air suspension shocks and pump because I get the "Suspension Fault" Error. Do I need a diagnostic tool to let the air go out or can I just disconnect the battery? Thanks!
I'm using your video for trouble shooting right now, thanks!
Just as another tip. You have two fuses and one relay. It could be one of those also.
Mine did this today after dropping my son off to school and normally a 6 minute drive took me 20 because I had to drive under 30mph with my hazard lights because my car kept threatening me to lower! Then it’s hydraulic city if I try to drive at all lol so basically I read it’s a clogged exhaust muffler plug, drill a 3mm hole in it or buy one for about $70 online! And I’ve read all problems solved. It’s under the spare, remove compressor to get to it, going to do this tmrw!
I just started having this problem. Looking at this video has given me some hope . Thank you sir.
Excellent, well done. You must have spent a lot of time figuring this out, and a whole lot more time constructing this video. 10/10.

Thank you for your vid. I didn’t see you nail down the fault exactly. I see you eliminated the auto height control sensors by disabling the electronic system, and entire front end sagged. Since both air springs wouldn’t be leaking, that means the valve block was leaking the pressure from both front air springs……right??
Thanks for the video! My air compressor work only around 15-30 sec and it stop and the suspension light go on in the dash!
My compressor is new.
Anyone have a idea what it could be?
This might sound crazy but it did work for me. Open your door start the car up once the air compressor fully fills up with air then you close the door and your system should work. If that's the case I believe you just have a leak in the system somewhere and the air compressor doesn't want to fill up because there's a leak.
