Thanks for producing one of the most detailed UA-cam videos on replacing the LR3 front air strut. But a couple of points I think I might have missed or were not covered, (1) the battery or air compressor fuse should be disconnected first, (2) torque settings for the top and bottom bolts. I think it's 42 ft/lbs for the top and 184 ft/lb for the bottom.
Love your work and dedication. Considering getting myself a LR3, and I love your videos showcasing how you can fix things. Keep up the good work and don't give up !

Michael Patrick Moore I got a used LR3 and almost right away had to do the compressor and one of the air struts. It’s really not that difficult to DIY if you are mechanically inclined and have some basic tools.

Very good video BUT, you should not tighten the 22mm Suspension arm bolt until the car is sitting in normal ride height, otherwise it's going to mess up the bushing.

I just used your instructions to replace the air struts on my 2007 Range Rover Sport and they worked perfectly! One thing that I did differently was NOT bleed the air out of the system. Instead I disconnected the battery and when I disconnected the air hose, the remaining air bled itself out of the system. Thank you so much.
Thanks for watching and that is also a pretty smart way of doing it. I appreciate the fact you took the time to share your experience and I'm glad you got it done yourself. You saved yourself hundreds of dollars. Good job and thanks again.
Great video. Couple things to mention. The nuts on top can be very difficult to remove. Harbor freight sells low profile sockets that you can put a wrench on also. This makes the job so much easier. And great advice for removing the heat shield to get that rear bolt. Also keep in mind you cut off old air connector to fit new. Almost impossible to get enough line unless you unclip behind the wheel liner
Seriously a great video with instructions on doing this. Great job! I have a Discovery 5 and was just wondering how hard it would be later. Very informative and clear just what I need my LR 3 has only done 60,000 Miles but i’ll Be all ready to do the gas struts when needed. Thank you. Best i’ve Seen
In my case, it was easy because one of the shocks had a leak and I could hear the air coming out. Plus it wouldn't hold its selected height position over night. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the support.
Thanks for the video. I have a new project. Guy at my local repair shop quoted a heck of a lot more than a couple hours of my time and a couple hundred dollars. Thanx for the tips!
My friend, having this problem on mine right now. Was looking for a good video. Thanx!!!! By far the most clear one on the net. Keep the good work going, have seen a your videos!!! All the best from Cyprus
you are welcome, would like to ask you please, Mine is LR3 model 2009 v8 hse, I can hear air leakage sound from the left front area, of course, form the air strut, so I could understand the only reason is that part and no way compressor or anything else, right? mine is 150 km and never replace any of that strut , so I can do the same procedures as you did and I can find also same air distributor as the passenger side? please advise
Yes, if you can hear air coming from the strut then you need new ones installed. As I live in the United States my steering wheel is on the left side so the air distributor/ block valve was on the right side. I'm just saying that because if you don't see the block valve, then just look on the other side. If you have any more question feel free to ask. Thanks again.
Great video, thank you but shouldn't you disconnect the battery or remove the suspension relay so the suspension doesn't try to adjust while you're working on it?
Great to see a video repair of this without a hoist, now I feel confident that I can do mine! I'm looking for a pair of Arnott fronts for my 06 LR3. Who do you recommend for your OEM Rover parts?
Great video and thanks for sharing. I do have a few questions: 1. How are your air struts holding up thus far since you replaced them nearly four years ago now? 2. Which brand did you go with, using the link to Amazon you provided there are multiple options on that page? 3. In the Atlantic British video they left the new air line hardware in place and just pushed the air line into the new fitting, is either way a plausible action? Do you have to place the hardware on and then place it into the strut? Thanks for you time.
@@diverserootz @Diverse Rootz I bought them from amazon. Arnott is a quality strut from everything that I've seen but I just bought the ones that were compatible with the LR. I left a link in the description. I don't know what brand but it's been 3 years and they're still holding up.
I just did my rear air struts. With the Atlantic British part, you don't have to reassemble the olive onto the air line. It really is just push to fit.
Definitely the most helpful land rover videos I have come across for my LR3 on when yours had a leak was it hissing when the air was leaking? Mine is leaking but I'm unsure if it's a strut or valve block, I have removed the auto leveling fuse and it seems to lean very slightly to the passenger side ( UK ) but not enough to justify the amount of hissing the car does and the amount I hear the pump working while driving. Thanks, Ben from Liverpool UK
Great video! I already replaced the rear patio to watching your video. I’m glad I watch this before tackling the front, because I don’t think I would’ve thought the back nuts would be accessible from the top! Also! You didn’t mention why you slid the tire under the car. This is an added safety! If the supports fail, the will land on the tire, not your chest😄 You da man! Thanks, again!
Excellent job! I have a 2012 HSE but the wheel well area looks exactly the same. I'm gonna take a closer look tomorrow since you showed me what I should be looking for. I, too, have a hissing air leak from my passenger side.
Good detailed narrative on this procedure Sir...I feel confident that if I need to change air struts on our LR3 the job will go smoothly thanks to your vid...

Following your instruction now. Sorry if I missed it, what brand air struts did you use? My 2006 LR3 is old and I would like to use it as a second vehicle and purchase more affordable air struts. Many thanks for your answer !
Oxman, can you talk about why LR3 electrical system manifests itself in dashboard lights flickering or no light at but the car is fully engaged electrically. Is it a battery problem or an alternator problem? Thanks Dr. Coker
Very well explained. Highly organized. These LRs are fun, as long as you can avoid a visit to dealer. My wife had one of the earlier versions, a Disco SE7 and some of our best off roading memories comes from that period. Enjoy it. Thanks dearly for sharing these. Thumbs upped and I was a Subscriber from before.
Awesome video. I've started hearing a hissing from the front left passenger (Australia) strut after shutting the engine off.. without doing a leak test I suspect it's the strut itself..
There are a few ways to do it. The way I did it was I put the fittings on the air supply line first. You slide the airline through the brass fitting and then insert the small cone piece with the small or narrow side first toward the brass fitting. Then, with the extra room you have because you detached the supply line from inside the fender you have just enough room with your fingers to start tighten the fitting. Remember to use the new hardware and especially the new o-ring. @10:38 I show just what I said, I know it is a little hard to get but after you hear it a few times it will make perfect sense.
How can I tell if I need to replace the struts? I have a RR Sport and I can still raise and lower it correctly, but when I go over bumps it goes all over the road. I am pretty sure it is the struts, but if they can raise and lower the vehicle correctly, aren't they OK? Like everyone else, I would like to thank you for these excellent instructions.

You've done a really great good job and the best video related to this specific issue I've ever seen, with a lot of detailed instructions that are critical in order to do the task properly. Thanks for sharing! Regards from Spain.
Thanks for watching all the way from Spain. I appreciate your comment.
Brilliant video, great presentation and perfect pace and detail. Thanks
I absolutely love your LR3 videos! Thank you so much for your efforts.
Thank you so much!!! It worked on my Range Rover sport. Saved me so much money.
Very informative and clear just what I need my LR 3 has only done 60,000 Miles but i’ll Be all ready to do the gas struts when needed. Thank you. Best i’ve Seen
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your comment.
Can you make a video on how to remove and install new struts on the rear side?
I don't need new shocks now but I definitely saved this video to my favorites. How did you know that you needed new front shocks?
Awesome video!
In my case, it was easy because one of the shocks had a leak and I could hear the air coming out. Plus it wouldn't hold its selected height position over night. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the support.
Great detailed video and thank you from a Land Rover owner needing to do this project!
You're welcome and thanks for watching. Land Rover owners help each other.
Thanks for the video. I have a new project. Guy at my local repair shop quoted a heck of a lot more than a couple hours of my time and a couple hundred dollars. Thanx for the tips!
Thanks for watching and let me know how it turns out.
Thanks man for taking time to show us how to do it.
My friend, having this problem on mine right now. Was looking for a good video. Thanx!!!! By far the most clear one on the net. Keep the good work going, have seen a your videos!!! All the best from Cyprus
I had a big issue for how to get rid of air before install, you did it so easy and I can see you are the best at the LR sites thanks
Wow, thanks for the compliment and I appreciate you for watching.
you are welcome, would like to ask you please, Mine is LR3 model 2009 v8 hse, I can hear air leakage sound from the left front area, of course, form the air strut, so I could understand the only reason is that part and no way compressor or anything else, right? mine is 150 km and never replace any of that strut , so I can do the same procedures as you did and I can find also same air distributor as the passenger side? please advise
Thanks a lot, dear , yes I have also left the side wheel. Thanks again
You're welcome and let me know how it turns out.
Great job, my air block valve can hear air leaking when off. So new struts and new valve release. Height on passenger side is 1/2” lower.
Great video. I've got about 110,000 0n my 2009. I'll consider doing the work myself when I need to replace the front air strut.
That's what UA-cam is all about. People helping out other people, thanks for watching.
Great video and thanks for sharing.
I do have a few questions:
They've held up pretty well. I don't think I have to change him again and like you said it has been 4 years.
@@oxmanagain I'm curious too on the brand you went with. Do you happen to remember?
@@diverserootz @Diverse Rootz I bought them from amazon. Arnott is a quality strut from everything that I've seen but I just bought the ones that were compatible with the LR. I left a link in the description. I don't know what brand but it's been 3 years and they're still holding up.
I just did my rear air struts. With the Atlantic British part, you don't have to reassemble the olive onto the air line. It really is just push to fit.
Fantastic video, thanks for going to the effort of filming this, much appreciated.
Awesome video on changing air struts, thankyou so much!
Let me know your results.
Looking to change mine very soon, great demo thank-you..for your advice and insights. great job.
Good detailed narrative on this procedure Sir...I feel confident that if I need to change air struts on our LR3 the job will go smoothly thanks to your vid...
Wow, I appreciate the compliment. Thanks for watching.
Once again, fantastic video.
I really learn alot about my LR Discovery 3 from watching your videos.
I thought i had to spend alot of money in repairshops when i bought the car, but you have shown me that i can do alot of the work myself.
Keep up the good work m8 and the wonderful videos.

I really appreciate the support and I'm happy I have been of some service to you. Thanks for letting me know my videos help an I will do my best to continue.
great video and thanks for all the videos on the LR3. I just bought one and thanks to you I ve learned alot.
You this was amazing! Take a bow this was a clear explanation that even I understood
Nice video I have always wanted to be a mechanic and this video leared me a bit about cars and I love this channel so keep up the good work
Btw I liked the video
Thank you and if you ever have any questions feel free to ask me. Thanks, for the support.
Thanks
Dr.
I appreciate the comment and as usual thanks for watching. I always appreciate the support you have a good day.
I'm coming up to 90K on my LR3 so expecting to do this job sometime soon. Subscribed and bookmarked, thank you!
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the support. If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to ask. Thanks again.
Wonderful video. The best explanation ever and good quality video. Thank you so much.
I really appreciate your videos man , i like how detailed they are !!.. thanks !!
Also i have a question, are these the reason why the suspension fault would come on in the lr3?
Awesome video. I've started hearing a hissing from the front left passenger (Australia) strut after shutting the engine off.. without doing a leak test I suspect it's the strut itself..
If you hear it. It's a good chance you are correct.
Hi, very well explained,I'm doing mine next weekend, very helpful video thank you
Does it come with instructions on how to take off the old strut and fit the new one?
Great video, very informative and the step by step instructions are broken down nicely. Thank you for sharing
I appreciate the comment and thanks for watching. I'm glad the video could help.
Can you comment about how you connected the air lines into the 1/4" fittings? I am kind of lost on this step.
What a great video man! I hope its the same for an LR4 because I will be doing this in the weekend.
Let me know how it turns out. I believe it is just about the same.
I just ordered both front air struts and both rear air springs for my 06 RR HSE. Gonna be fun lol.
Do you have a similar video for doing the rear air struts? Or is it the same process? Thanks! Great video!
Excellent video .
Love the way you took the time to explain everything.
Good job 👍👍👍..keep them coming ...subbed!!
Thank you, I appreciate the support and you're welcome.
Just got a discovery 3 and so great to find your channel 👍👍👍😎
I appreciate the support and thanks for the comment.
You absolutely ROCK. Thank you for this simple and precise tutorial.
Man, I watched several videos about this before finding oxmanagain and none were as informative. VERY good job on this video, extremely good info and you covered every aspect of the work to be done. EXCELLENT AND I WILL RECOMMEND THIS VIDEO ON MY TWITTER ACCOUNT OF OVER 300K FOLLOWERS!
Excellent video and instructions. Thanks for sharing, I'll be replacing my air struts soon.
Let me know how it turns out and thanks for watching.
@@oxmanagain Will do. Thanks again.
