I bought a baby betta from petco and she only lived 2 months. She didn't grow that much she was good then one day she was gone. I only paid 1.99 for her.
My other betta lilah I bought as a baby and I've had her for a few months and she's doing wonderful! Honestly I don't like buying any fish from Petco or Petsmart just because they aren't healthy most of the time and the supplier isn't that great
@@planetfishness I have 4 that I bought from petco bigger ones. Gizmo Dumbo Grace and Chris they are almost a year. Then my Blue he's almost 1 1/2 got him at Wal-Mart. They are all doing great. Keep up the great work Kayla you are awsome.
Planet fishness please look at my comment you seem to know your stuff i kinda just started fish keeping and I really need some tips it’s on my comment if not it’s fine.
I rescue a lot of fish as well. What I like to do is keep a 20 gallon cycled tank with a few hardy fish and two sponge filters running in it at all times. That way when you come across a fish that needs a new home, you can syphon some water from that tank, and use one of the sponges with beneficial bacteria already established in it for the new one. Instant cycled tank 🤙🏼 I hope these babies grow up strong and healthy, great video.
Thank you very much! My plan was to have a 10g for that but then I saved a bunch of Walmart fish before that was completed and I bought so many that it filled all the tanks lol
Something that broke my heart is because at PETCO and I saw sickly, dead, and sad betas. They also sold leapord geckos in the wrong habitats. It just makes my blood boil!
My petco does put bettas in cups but if the fish is not sold in a month they put them in bigger tanks in the back for 2 months then put them back in the cups

Thank you very much!! It's sad how they sell them in the cups but it's even worse that they don't do water changes in them and overfeed them and basically kill them
You can always get a divider and give your adult betta 5 gallons And get 2-3 bettas for the other side. Or just pick up another tank 10 gallons can be as cheap as $15
@@rileysings8768 yeah it's more the filter, heater, substrates and what not. And just personally I'm not a fan of divider tanks, especially if the bettas can still see each other through the other side of the divider
I feel so bad for the fish at my store, because imagine adult bettas in tiny little bowls. They mostly are sick. I got one, and my brother got one too. His died after 1 month because it was sick. Mine( his name’s Flame) is red, and kinda big. It’s been 4 months and he’s healthy. I feel good that I saved one, but feel bad for the other ones:(
@@queendedede6790 yeah I feel you :/ I saved a really sick red Delta tail male there and he's going on a year now! But it does suck that most of them die after a couple months from their previous small cups or even just never going into a proper set up

A rescued a little betta, about 7 weeks old from Petsmart. Her name is Lolita and she's now in a nice, warm, cycled tank. I almost punched an 8 year old who wanted to take her and put her in a non filtered, non heated bowl (I asked the mom) but thankfully I got her before he could. She's white with red fins and little red spots along her head. She's my pride and joy 💞.

I didn’t get a clear view of how small they were In the cups but when you put them in the tank I was shocked on how small they were, that is unacceptable that stores sell them like that 😔😢
I rescued my baby beta less than a week ago and she already seems so much happier. She was really tiny but she is already so much more energetic and loves her plants.
It is really sad, I was in Petsmart yesterday and this family was looking at the bettas, if they had bought one I would've told them about my channel and also information so that they knew to at the very least not put it in a bowl
I watch a lot of animal videos and they say to not buy animals from petco or petsmart because it supports them. But thank you for saving them babies 👏🙏
I know that me purchasing them isn't a solution to the overall problem but how I look at it is for one I couldn't leave there without taking some of them but also just because you can't save them all doesn't mean you shouldn't save any. Another thing is that me buying 5 compared to the tens of thousands bought per month/year whatever is a very small number so the only way to fix this is for everyone to be on board. Unfortunately the animal movement isn't there yet. I understand though where you and others are coming from though :)
Well if it wasn't for Petco and petsmart yall would not have such easy access to them 🤷♀️ and putting all 5 in there together is not the greatest idea🤦♀️
This is sooo awesome. I thought I was the only one that rescued Bettas from these horrific stores here in Vermont. It makes me so sad every time I go look at them. Thank you for doing this.
Kayla, you have a good heart. Keep doing what you’re doing, you are very knowledgeable and you can teach a lot of people about betas and how to take care of them. Thank you for what you do.😊
Gavin Campbell yeah but by buying them makes it worse. You buy one and encourage the buying of them as "saving" and people start "saving" these fish it will start giving them more profit they will put out more so once upon a time there was two you buy them they'll put out three more. I don't know if you took economics class but its called supply & demand. Dont buy boycott instead
Did you think the names for the hermit crabs? And you're doing an amazing thing saving these baby bettas. Alot of people don't realise that these fish deserve alot more. Thank you for taking good care of them.😊❤
That's sad, I'm hoping these don't die but the truth is they're too young to be sold and after being in those cups and everything there is still a chance even with proper care some may die
finally ! ur gonna love this tank they are such interesting beautiful fish and they truly care for each other . i feed my betta tank last cuz i get stuck watching them for ever. good save ty
These poor babies! I just happened upon your site looking for ideas for my own tanks. I LOVE your tanks, and you have such a big heart! I hope all these little babies have made it!
I love my bettas 🥺 1 from PetSmart and 1 from petco red vailtale and a copper betta both so pretty! Got the red one back in February. They both live in 5 & 10 gallon tanks to themselves with a naturalistic black water & planted theme. My sweet boys 🥺 great vid always good to see others treat bettas as they deserve
I have a friend who bought a baby betta fish, and it was very heathy and lived a LONG time. When I showed her this video, she bought all the baby’s and almost all the adults. You saved fish from across the WORLD! You should be so proud of yourself. Btw luv ur vids!
Do you think I soing the right thing for my beta? I have a 6 gallon with hiding places a filter a heater and one (I for got what the spices was) called but it is a dwarf sucker fish and my beta fish is a moon tail I am trying to upgrade it to a 10 gallon and we clean the decorations with no soup is all the things ok? (Also the filter doesn't have a strong current)
1:12 those were juvenile stripes (which are normal), not stress stripes. But you're definitely right about them being in horrible condition. Really really looking forward to updates about these little ones!
I love your channel! I bought my betta female(not a baby) and in two weeks, it felt like she doubled in size. I tried to buy the smaller looking one because I figured it was younger and in turn, not stuck on the shelf for months. I wonder now if she was just neglected and not filling out because she was in one of those plastic cups. Can you do a video on the life cycle or growing and maturing process of bettas? I think it would help the rest of us selecting a pet. I'm also glad you bought the sick looking ones. I'm guilty of only purchasing the health active bettas when I'm selecting a pet I plan on keeping for many years.
I wish I knew where you are located? I have been searching for a male baby betta to raise . I bought a really small female two years ago and I still have her today along with 3 other rescues over time. Thank you for saving these babies.
So I have some questions 1. What do you use to clean your tanks? 2. What is the best food for baby bettas? 3. I bring my betta to the store with me if I go to a store after buying my betta, is it safe to leave them in the car? Plz respond
Number 3 I can answer DO NOT ever leave your fish inside of the car if its hot outside your fish can over heat or if it's to cold the water temperature can be freezing and freeze the muscles in fish
I just got a big huge tank and all the things hermit crabs need, I have had Kyle (my crab) for 2 days and it buried itself. is it distressing or molting? i think it might be distressing because it hasn't eaten any of his food.
A lot of hermit crabs for even up to 2 weeks when you first put them into their tank may bury itself and you won't see it. It could be in distress but the best and only thing to do is let it come out on it's own, don't try to dig and find it. 2 out of my 3 I've only seen a few times so far. Thank you for getting the proper stuff!
Hey newbie here🙋🏽♀️ did you use tap water with a bit of the smart start (or what ever you called it)? I was told I had to cycle the tank or something first? Thank you 😊😊
Um i have a ten gallon and want one betta can i have a hang on the back filter ill add minimum water flow but the problem is suction will it be too bad????
I don't blame you for saving them. It's so hard to see this and not do anything. Only thing is, I think you should have asked for the manager and told him he/she should not be bring in such young bettas. I hope you eventually go and talk with the manager. Thankyou for saving the baby bettas. You're a good person. ❤️😊
Wow! I can't believe they sell these baby female bettas! This is terrible and sad. Kayla I am glad you saved some of the baby bettas and see how they will do in the tank. Keep me posted on how they are doing!
Buying these fish are saving them but that's basically saying to them ”people ate getting them let's get more ” so don't buy them that's just supporting the business
The pet stores around my suburb all have people that own Betta fish (basically everyone that works there) and they get so excited (mainly the girls) when someone asks to buy them. And they always tell them exactly what you need to help the fish, and they are all really nice.
They're sooo cute! Good luck with them! I like how you gave some info on how to care for baby bettas, maybe you can do a video about baby betta care. I've been wanting to get another betta, once I can clear up some space for it, & i thought about getting a baby so I can watch it grow up, but listening to you, I don't know... *sighs*
Thank you! They are very cute, and I really want to give out as much information as possible so I may make that video. It's a personal choice, I look at it a few was but one is just because you can't save them all to me doesn't mean you shouldn't save any
@@planetfishness You're welcoem! That would be awesome if you did! :D I'm going to do some more research and maybe I can get another betta for my bday (in 2 months). :D I guess I can take the pellets & crush them so they're even smaller when I go to feed it. :D I hope your new babies grow big and strong!

Omg thank you for saving them I use to do the same when I was working at pets smart but now I can’t do much because I can just don’t have the funds to save all of them but awe thank you for saving them much love
There was one time I was at my local petco, just looking for a betta for my five gallon tank, when I saw this beautiful pink and pearly white pink orchid betta fish that was dieing....I felt so bad for it, but since I’m a kid, I didn’t have enough money to get him (he was $25) .... I really hope some one like you saw him and rescued him and that he had the amazing life he deserved.
i agree with your thinking that it's not right to bother the person working at the register about the company's ethics. the people who we really need to be confronting are the people who don't even work at the individual stores, we need to go up the ladder to the people in corporate. i'd be willing to bet that even the highest ranking manager working at a petco has NO choice in what livestock they carry in the store or where it comes from. we need to figure out who is at the top & find a way to confront them
That's very true! Also, Petco's supplier is different than all of the local fish stores and all the fish are fine there so why doesn't Petco just get a better supplier?
@@planetfishness i would guess that it's a price and availability thing. the smaller pet stores probably get fish from smaller suppliers, who have better quality/higher standards, but less fish, and higher prices. petco probably sells a looooot of fish so they need a supplier who can get them a lot super fast year round & for cheap. so maybe we need to talk to corporate petco people, and also find out who their suppliers are, and then go talk to the suppliers ourselves and ask them why/how they feel comfortable breeding & selling live animals in such a careless, profit-centric way.
@@boogrlovr they dont like to reveal their suppliers, GoHerping did a great video on the secrecy of PetCo/smart distributors all across the US. Most wouldnt reveal a thing, though some unknowingly did at the stores, and when he was directed to corporate they pretty much gave him the run-around putting him on hold, redirecting his call and avoiding any direct answers. It was very revealing of these companies and i encourage everyone to watch that vid. These big companies and corporations are quite disgusting and have no ethics or morals when the only thing that matters to them is their bottom line ($$$)

Think about this.........if you keep buying fish from PETCO they will bring more in because every one they sell (you buy) makes a profit.
Your not wrong
Jim Schmidt but still those fish don’t deserve to sit there at the same time
Gavin Campbell yeah but by buying them makes it worse.
Thank you for taking good care of them.😊❤
Thank you very much for the support! I haven't picked out names for the hermit crabs just yet
Yess this is so sad😔I bought 2 and they both died after . They sell hundreds and they don't even take care of them right 😒keep up the good work 💛
That sad
That's sad, I'm hoping these don't die but the truth is they're too young to be sold and after being in those cups and everything there is still a chance even with proper care some may die
You are so kind, I have been watching your vids for hours! It’s nice to know that there are still good people in this world! ♥
finally ! ur gonna love this tank they are such interesting beautiful fish and they truly care for each other . i feed my betta tank last cuz i get stuck watching them for ever. good save ty
Lol I do that with some of my tanks that are more interesting to feed, thank you!
In England they have them in individual 5 gallon filters and heated tanks or they get the simease fighting fish to live with other fish
Agree my shop has the odd one in big tanks or the most of the time they are in little square ones I am also from the uk
Kayla,u have a kind heart and very good vids pls continue those.
These poor babies! I just happened upon your site looking for ideas for my own tanks. I LOVE your tanks, and you have such a big heart! I hope all these little babies have made it!
Awesome videos thanks so much for your videos
Thank you so much for watching!!
@@planetfishness that's really nice
Thank you for saving them 💞
Thanks for saving the baby bettas 👍
I had to :)
Thanks for rescuing them I really appreciate it and I didn't know that they weren't supposed to be kept like that in stores
Some stores don't care about the animals they care more about the ££££££
Yeah, a lot of stores in other countries either have laws or just do put the bettas in large enough tanks when being sold instead of these cups
@@planetfishness my local store might have 3 tanks with 1 in then little containers with them in
Thank you for saving them! I love your channel. Hope your channel get big!
I'm guilty of only purchasing the health active bettas when I'm selecting a pet I plan on keeping for many years.
ur videos are amazing thank u for saving these fish
Wow!!! It’s amazing how far your channel has come! When I first found your channel you had like 600 subs, and now look! Keep up the great work!!!!😁😇
Hey , i am a German girl and I Love all your Videos. Have a good day ❤💕🌱👍
Hi, thank you very much! You as well :)
@@planetfishness 🌸💕
I wish I knew where you are located? I have been searching for a male baby betta to raise . I bought a really small female two years ago and I still have her today along with 3 other rescues over time. Thank you for saving these babies.
So I have some questions
Thank you your channel is very entertaining
Hey newbie here🙋🏽♀️ did you use tap water with a bit of the smart start (or what ever you called it)? I was told I had to cycle the tank or something first? Thank you 😊😊
Wishing you luck with your babies. I am so hooked on Bettas, wish I could take them all home also.
Thank you very much! They were the first fish I owned and I've just always had a thing for them
I love your videos, keep up the great work! 👍🏼
Thank you I appreciate that! :)
Planet Fishness You are welcome 🙂
I love your saving videos!
Thank you!
You are so kind to fish and good job for saving them!!!!!😀😀😀😀
Thanks for saving them
:)
Great video well done for saving them
Thank you!
The last two that you zoomed in on for the first time while they were in their new tank were my favorite ☺️
Thank you for saving these babies! I wish I could but I don’t have the resources lol
I got my first betta today! He’s in a 6 gallon!😍
It's Dylan Oo what color
That's great congrats!
Tessa Frayser blue with a little bit purple in his tail. And he’s a halfmoon😍
It's Dylan WOOW PRETTY
@@itsdylan1703 I have that same exact thing lol
This reminds me of my beautiful blue beta that lived with me for four years RIP Alpha.
Wow! I can't believe they sell these baby female bettas! This is terrible and sad. Kayla I am glad you saved some of the baby bettas and see how they will do in the tank. Keep me posted on how they are doing!
Thank you! I will definitely update everyone In videos :)
Hello Kayla! That will be great to see your babies doing well!
Buying these fish are saving them but that's basically saying to them ”people ate getting them let's get more ” so don't buy them that's just supporting the business
K1wi_coconut 1 right but people don't get that and say they are saving its actually making it worse
Well done, big support from Croatia!
Thank you :)
:D I hope your new babies grow big and strong!
you are such a kind person and love your videos
one time I was at a pet shop and the bettas were actually healthy and they weren’t in little cups , they were in jar containers with gravel and filters , it’s was nice to see because they were all moving around inside of sitting at the bottom
Thank you for saving them :)
:)
I’m glad there are people in the world who save fish I’m not the only one.
Omg I FRICKEN LOVE YOUR Channel!!!!! I went to pet co an a third of the fish were dead!
Omg thank you for saving them I use to do the same when I was working at pets smart but now I can’t do much because I can just don’t have the funds to save all of them but awe thank you for saving them much love
Thank you! I could never work in a Petco or Petsmart because I would just buy everything haha
Planet Fishness that’s very true I think that’s why I quit 😂😅
Difference between stress stripes and breeding stripes??
You said people will complain about you supporting it but I support this effort of yours
I love your vids!!!!😁😁😁
Thank you :)
What do u feed them
First bites, baby brine shrimp, blood worms. . .whatever is the proper size for the betta
i agree with your thinking that it's not right to bother the person working at the register about the company's ethics. the people who we really need to be confronting are the people who don't even work at the individual stores, we need to go up the ladder to the people in corporate. i'd be willing to bet that even the highest ranking manager working at a petco has NO choice in what livestock they carry in the store or where it comes from. we need to figure out who is at the top & find a way to confront them
That's very true!
What type of food do you give them
Keep up the good work😀🙌👍👍
Thank you :)
Great job!!
I love your passion . you and your girl are sweetheart s
