I once got stuck in a two-lane highway behind two "grannies" who literally drove right next to each other for over a 100 miles and not one of them sped up and slowed down. They just drove next to each other at equal pace... completely clueless. It's incredibly frustrating when people block the left lane.
@Ballen1182 To put it in perspective, there's only a difference of one minute to go ten miles @ 65 vs.75. If the trucks were in the left lane, you have a valid complaint. But I've been tailgated many times going 75 in the slow lane.

Agressive lane changing like we are taught in Germany and The Netherlands (and probably other European countries as well) can actually be a thing drawing more attention than doing it this way in the US. I've come to see a couple of Americans working or living here mentioning how we tend to go back to the right as fast as possible with them telling how it can be something that can actually get you stopped by police in the US. Also, for all we know there was someone to the right of them not giving them any space by not reducing their speed to create a gap as well, and I would not be surprised if the kind of lanes used for heavy traffic that Germany has on the more regional, non high-way roads going uphill might be a common thing in the US on highways just because of the greater distances there. Yes, I felt the same way, but that's just because we are taught the left lane is where the fast traffic is.
@@Dutch3DMaster those Americans lied to you. The left lane is for passing and you're supposed to get back over as soon as it's safe. Sounds like the guys you talked are the assholes that clog up the left lane and force people to do dangerous maneuvers like this to get around. You can get a ticket for staying in the left lane but it rarely happens. In this case, the cop was clogging the left lane so someone would get upset and do just that, should be illegal.
@@rrdt good point. Usually when cops are in the left lane they are going 90+ to cover a lot of highway. This cop was going a lot slower and was likely waiting for something to happen. Really uncool

IKR. Especially considering how high up they are, you'd think the badges would be in plain sight o them. Also as Truck Drivers, you think they'd know American Cops are usually in DODGE Challengers as their job literally has them driving on so many interstates, it'd be suicide for them to not recognize unmarked cops otherwise they'd rack up so many tickets!
@@Z-Bart If he/she found a speeder on other side. What was he gonna do ? Jump the guard rails to turn around or take the next exit to turn around. He was simply baiting.
They do this. I remember driving with a challenger and a skyline and we were out in front. All of a sudden a black SUV speeds past us and then slows down in the left lane. We all knew instantly it was a cop baiting us to pass him. He literally drove 60 in a 65 and no one dared pass him.
So many problems in this video I didn't know who to watch. You got the cop driving slow in left lane seemingly baiting people to be aggressive, you've got the white truck tailgating the cop and then finally you've got our video taker in a big rig in the left lane (who seems to be passing so not really that bad imo). Not knowing the cop was there at first, I didnt even consider the person who acutally got pulled over.
Yeah, lmao. I agree mostly about the camera guy. He's driving a big rig. People seem to be ignorant to that fact and act like he should be merging over as soon as possible.. now THAT is dangerous. He can't overtake as quickly and needs more clearance to merge over safely
That unmarked (!) Police car deliberately baited that driver to make an illegal pass! He was going so slowly and blocking the fast lane. And the fact that his car was not marked makes it so sneaky.
The cop didn’t make the asshole pass someone in the merge lane, nor do 85+MPH on the highway. Don’t blame the cop, blame the asshole behind the wheel of the White Acura.
That's not an unmarked, genius. No unmarked police vehicle has roof rails. Only the civilian models. It's pretty obvious that the white Subaru is pulled over for flying past a marked charger at 90+.
I feel like if you’re a bored cop who rarely pulls anyone over, you should just follow a school bus and wait till someone blows past it’s stop sign, happens all the time
It’s an archaic law in my state. In fact, unless signs are posted saying such, a driver goes in whichever lane is available. My state did away with that law in 1981.
Falcon so? Sue me. Unless there's a posted sign saying not to use the left lane except for passing...I'll use it as I see fit, so long as I'm breaking the law by exceeding the posted speed limit. I regularly hold the fast lane as long as I want - just 2 km/h below the speed limit I mean - I really don't care at the traffic BEHIND me - that's their problem. Below the speed limit on whatever lane is the most appropriate, and never too close to the car in front of me.
@@Skank_and_Gutterboy I think the point is if there's a car blocking him infront from passing he shouldn't be in the passing lane He wouldn't be in a situation where he's blocked from infront and to the side if he had stayed in the proper lane to begin with
The fact that this guy drives a truck for a living, yet posts a video showing showing his complete ignorance of how poorly he himself drives is just sad.
Look again. It was the cop in the dark colored car who was hogging the left lane. A perfect setup to get someone angry enough to pass on the right. Works every time. Easy ticket. I was in Kentucky some years ago, and the cop was driving an older El Camino with a bale of hay in the back. Perfect decoy.
He didn't just pass on the right, which is not an infraction in and off itself. He used an entrance lane to a limited access highway to pass on the right, which IS an infraction.
Nobody has the right to certain lanes. Grandma can drive in the left lane doing 5 under. Is it dangerous? Yes. Is it illegal? Depends on what state you're in. Should you get upset that people aren't going as fast as you want to? No, because then it makes you more upset and likely to do irrational things.
@XO The Host again you do not have a right to specific lanes. If someone is doing the speed limit (depending on state) they can stay there as long as they want. It's irrational to think that you have the manifest destiny from God to take the left lane. I don't like left lane hogs as much as the next guy, but they (depending on state) can be there.
God that's retarded. Literally every other Western country has designated cruising and passing lanes. Here we drive on the right and pass on the left. Approach, overtake, move back to the right lane
@@coflyer2949 I am from the state in which this was filmed (NC) and I honestly couldn't tell you if there's a law that says the left lane is only for passing. What I can tell you is that the questions on our license test are based on defensive driving more than specific traffic laws. Defensive driving tells us to return right when it is safe after passing. I've seen people get blue lighted while lane hogging so traffic can move on. They don't get pulled over, the cop just flashes them until they get in the right lane, then he goes on. This cop shouldn't have been in the left lane, legal or not. You have this thing about self-righteousness twisted. Selflessness is following defensive driving standards, not doing something on the road just because it's legal.
Here in New Hampshire they passed a law a while back. Camping out and blocking traffic in the left lane is now a ticketable offense. If you refuse to move out o the way, and continue to obstruct the flow of cars, you can be pulled over and written up. If the road ahead of you is empty, and you have a line of cars behind you, GTF out of the way!
If you were in such a hurry and wanted to be in front, perhaps YOU should have left 5 minutes earlier. The car jamming the fast lane was LE , go ahead tailgate him/her and flash your hi-lights
I'm pretty sure they got pulled over for speeding, not for passing. They would've been pulled over if they'd driven that fast in the passing lane as well.
How badly people are reading this Road makes me realise why so many are bad at driving. 3 car over taking another, white car tries to under take with no room to do so. When a lane opens up, instead of waiting for the cars to filter to the right he floors it up the inside. The Red car in front that had been slowing down the video car turned out to be a cop. Idiot gets booked. Question how were the people in the over taking lane douches for using it to over take? At the end of the video they were back on the inside lane, not selfish at all. PS: Big clue on how to spot motor way cops out fishing, they’ll be doing the speed limit in the outside lane when over taking.
It's called the "overtaking lane" in Australia and you're not supposed to drive in it UNLESS you are in the process of overtaking someone. It still doesn't stop complete douchenozzles from driving in it all the time.
Same in UK, except as in Oz here many drivers are like those laughing boys obstructing the overtaking lane, but it appears there’s no legal lane discipline in USA?
That never quite makes sense, because on a four lane road. theoretically everyone should be in the nearside lane for 90% of the time. Common sense is the answer, along with staying in the lane most consistent with your speed and vehicle, along with showing respect for other drivers even if they are idiots. 😊
DW your comment is perplexing! Please tell me how he was hogging up the left lane??? The truck in front of him, even though he wasn’t passing at a high rate, was still gaining on the vehicle in the right lane. That’s the idea! That’s how it’s supposed to be! Unfortunately impatient, selfish assholes have changed the rules of the road and think that all others should comply to their aggressive style of driving! And it sounds to me like you’re one of them! Don’t get on my ass... I guarantee you’ll be eating my rear bumper
Again. Not an impatient driver, the idiot blocking the passing lane is the offender..move over where you are supposed to be and quit trying to cause accidents 🙄 that applies to cops. They have a driver's licence and definitely should know better. Not a good look for them to be breaking the laws they are supposed to uphold.
Depends on which state. Where I live, there is no such thing as a dedicated passing lane. You got fast lane and a slow lane. You are allowed to drive in the fast lane and not required to move over. I know. I do it almost daily going 75-80 over 65 and even passed a cop who was in the second lane. Not a problem.
Don’t tell me you’ve never been a few kilometers above the speed limit to overtake someone. The man had no reason to overtake on the right But the cop had no reason to stay on the left lane either, that’s bad driving and showing a bad example
don't get all the idiots making comments about the truck driving slow in the left lane. he is clearly coming up to and passing slower traffic in the right lane. hes doing nothing wrong here.
Just saying, I was pulled over for this same exact thing. *Undercover cop, +3 others going 10 below in the passing lane* I switched lanes and passed. Ended up getting pulled over, got a ticket. I fought the ticket all the way, and it was dropped in traffic court.
Good. I would have sued the department for breaking the law and fishing for tickets. That's only if I lost the appeal. Doing 10 over is a LOT safer than doing 10 under in the passing lane creating traffic jams.
Not exactly true. When you are not passing another car/bike/semi, get out of the left lane ! Even fast drivers shouldn't stay in the left lane. There is always someone faster.
No, they were passing. Not as fast as y'all might want them to be, but they were passing. Gosh, y'all are the reason why patience is a virtue, aint ya?
This police officer should give a ticket to himself too, because he did keep on driving in the left lane without passing other cars! After reading all the comments, where one "attacks" the other about rules, I think it's time to add something. First of all, follow UA-cam's guidelines when commenting. It is possible to disagree on a topic without writing badly to each other. Be polite! The second is that there are obviously different rules depending on which state you live in. But many states and countries, such as in the UK and Norway, the left lane (right in the UK) is for passing other cars. If there is a car behind you that is driving faster than you, drive over to the right lane as soon as it is free way. This should be done even if you keep the legal speed. This is called the duty to yield. In Norway, there are higher fines for not complying with the duty to yield than there are for driving a little over legal speed. This is due to the fact that serious accidents often occur because many do not comply with the duty to yield. The same rule applies to the police as long as they are not on a emergency.
@@CrazyTuco1 Depends where you are. Some traffic laws DO specifically state you must stay to the right lane unless you're passing. The speed you're going is irrelevant. Yup, gotta get that monthly ticket quota somehow, lol. Hate when they try to bait people like that. It doesn't make the roads safer. It's just basically another tax, taking money from the people in another way besides calling it a "tax." There's been studies that show speed traps also cause more accidents than they prevent, with people distracted looking out for cops, slamming on their brakes suddenly to try to not get a speeding ticket, causing more rear-ender accidents, etc. But they still claim publicly that it's about "safety" and not the money, which they claim is just an effective deterrent to get people to drive safer, lol.

Truck was stuck behind the undercover cop holding up the left/passing lane, if you didn't notice. The cop was probably trying to bait people into pulling a move like this so he/she could give out speeding tickets to fill their monthly ticket quotas that they deny exist. Still, you shouldn't speed that fast or dangerously pass on the right like that either way, of course.
The truck was keeping safe distance but still going as fast as they could waiting to pass. Don't think that driving fast means that getting too close to another persons car at a fast speed isnokay.

Cultural norms. Traditionally, if you are traveling at the maximum allowed speed the theory is you cannot be impeding traffic. The cultural norm in European countries allows for unlimited speeds. It has always been unacceptable to remain in the far left lane in Germany etc. A true application of common sense in the US would dictate a driver in the far left lane traveling at the maximum speed allowed is in capable of impeding traffic. Legal traffic.

I've learned first thing before driving that I should keep on the right. Unless you have to pass or turn left. I've seen a lot of people lately keeping left without apparent reason. I mean, even driving on the right side it's more comfortable and has better control of visual surroundings .
@@Checkmate1138 I wonder the same thing. But the question should be: Why people need to be punished to do a simple thing that helps each other? We wouldn't need a bunch of signs and regulations if we use common sense, courtesy, and see for each other as we would like to be treated by others. Stubbornness, hate, rage, bitchness causes all those new laws that we'll complain about later. That's how we lose freedom. Can we be free without causing problems?
@@fernesal I mean, I think it depends on how you define freedom. But I personally don't think rules and laws are going to be considered infringement on freedoms. If there were no rules, then more people would get hurt than not, despite greater conscious and common courtesy (but who's to say that more people would actually be this way without laws?). I don't think people ought to complain about laws like these when ultimately they benefit everyone overall in the long run. As for the aspect of people only driving on the right lane except for passing -- i think this is ultimately more of a guideline, a principle for how things should work to increase the efficiency of traffic. However, realistically with just how many cars there are, and everyone driving at different speeds, you can't possibly expect to have 15 cars all lined up on the right lane when turning, exits and changing lanes and changing roads are a thing, and people have to get on the left lane if they need to exit off the road, which means that if someone happens to not be paying attention, then an accident will occur. CONCLUSION: Left lane driving isn't the problem. The problem is distraction of drivers / lack of focus, plus inconsideration of others via reckless driving. One last thing: people often rage about drivers because they are too slow and so drivers want to overtake them. But isn't the point of Speed Limit to indicate that there is a Maximum Speed? So ultimately, drivers should not be in such a hurry all the time to be driving max speed, especially on the right lane. I think if people were more patient, we would have less accidents, regardless of people driving on the left lane or not.
@@Checkmate1138 Quite long response. But let me tell you. At least I think we agree that the problem is people with a bad attitude. I also drive on the left lane at times. The driver of the camera car is the real problem here, hogging the left lane and not letting the subaru in. Hate drivers like that, I've had to do the same thing the subaru did, for the same reason.
No one is entitled to switch between separated lanes. Ever. It's irrelevant what speed they're going, whether they're signaling, or what the speed limit is-they are required by law to yield the right of way until the lane is clear. The space ahead of the camera vehicle (eighteen-wheeler) was far too small for the Subaru to merge into safely, therefore the lane was not clear and the Subaru should have waited its turn like a grownup; the rig had the right of way, _particularly_ because it was in the process of passing another vehicle, and was not obligated to make room for the Subaru at any point during the video. The rig closed the safety gap it had left open because people who drive the way the Subaru driver did-the way you apparently do-tend to dive into small spaces like that and then slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the vehicle ahead (in this case, the Chevy), which forces the following vehicle (in this case, the rig) to slam on the brakes, which can set off a chain reaction of emergency braking that could cause a collision. What the rig did was not entirely safe either, but was a preemptive measure to prevent a collision resulting from the high likelihood of the Subaru braking suddenly in the passing lane at highway speeds. Since the rig driver had a good field of view and could make an assessment of the likelihood of the vehicles already ahead of him braking abruptly (low, as the road was wide open), it was the better of two bad choices in a dangerous situation the Subaru's impatience set up.

I love it! Once I was driving on an icy road and was only going about 40 mph on a highway. The guy behind me was right on my rear bumper trying to get me to speed up and I hate that. I slowed down and moved over so he could pass me. He hit his accelerator to pass me and started fish-tailing. He over corrected and ended up in the ditch. When I saw him in the ditch I honked and waved at him.
Okay but to be fair, two people going the exact same speed so no one can pass is the MOST INFURIATING THING! It happens every day where I live (just outside Atlanta) and people constantly use the turn lane to pass
@@BIKEMAN21 if they were going faster the speeder never wouldve hit them. And im talking people actually driving to slow impeding traffic causing people to get impatient

The cop was Breaking All the Rules and blocking the road in order to get people frustrated so they would go around him. That's the kind of cop that never deserved to wear a badge, that's the kind of cop that should be removed from the force and never allowed in any position of power ever again. Really nastiness.
The white car deserved it. So many people here obviously have ego issues on the road. You don't drive recklessly simply because someone in front of you makes you angry. The cop is in the right here.
European driver here The highway is not very busy so the cars who don't intend to drive faster have no place in the left lane... They could all easily drive on the right lane without having to slow down because there is enough space. But they are blocking the left lane and wonder then why cars overtake on the right, gg....
what are you talking about, the cop was literally the guy slowing down everyone trying to pass the white suv on the slower lane. And that's because he's a cop so he has to follow the speed limit properly lol.. But even if you are just a bit faster you are still allowed to pass someone. Passing doesn't mean you are allowed to go over the speed limit either lol
this happened right in front of two guys in the same truck and they have two different "stories" of what happen. Classic example of how eye witness testimony is not accurate.
White car should get a ticket for passing on the right, then the cop should give himself a ticket for causing the backup in the first place by riding the left lane while not passing.
Driver was most likely exceeding the speed limit, the cop was most likely moderating the speed of vehicles by pacing in the left lane, lots of bad choices were made here by several drivers all with-in 60 seconds.
This is a perfect example of police-officers not understanding the statistics that cause accidents based on the laws of physics and of biological response! To choose a light speeder, who also did other things that are WRONG, instead of the tailgater, to pull-over is just ridiculous! Tailgaters are extremely dangerous, and involve as many innocent bystanders in crashes, so why not choose to pull THEM over more often?!? Are they not trained to pull-over someone who starts out behind them?!? Professor-Marty.
So the unmarked cop holds up traffic in the passing lane why? So he can talk someone into doing something stupid. Guess he’s real proud of himself too.
He was probably going the speed limit, when most people do 20 over on interstates now. And there was no reason for anyone to be there, no cars to pass when the Subaru went. People make their own choices, he was just seeing who'd get stupid.
@Salt Maker lol you're whats wrong with the world im not even a felon and you're trying to label me as if thats a valid way to argue with someone. From what we can see thats what the cops doing and for you to say he's not just shows what kind of person you are.
No he wasn't. He stayed in the left lane because there were cars beside him, then when he saw the cop pulling the car over he stayed in the left lane until he passed them, then moved over. He did the right thing.
When traffic mysteriously slows down there is a good chance that there is a cop ahead.

As a German Autobahn enjoyer it hurts me to see that you're constantly blocking the left lane... really hard to watch

I've learned first thing before driving that I should keep on the right. Unless you have to pass or turn left. I've seen a lot of people lately keeping left without apparent reason. I mean, even driving on the right side it's more comfortable and has better control of visual surroundings .
If it's how people should drive, how come it isn't a law?
But if I notice a vehicle is approaching faster than me, I move to the right. If right is going at my speed I stay there. I drive every day of the year. I manage 8 businesses in different cities. I've seen enough.
Its actually a fast lane too smh its not just for passing and turning left
Its the first rule in my drivers handbook.. "On a multi-lane highway, slower traffic should use the travel lane furthest to the right (unless needing the left lane to turn left). This leaves the left lane available for drivers of other vehicles for passing"

Since the rig driver had a good field of view and could make an assessment of the likelihood of the vehicles already ahead of him braking abruptly (low, as the road was wide open), it was the better of two bad choices in a dangerous situation the Subaru's impatience set up.
its funny this guy was just chilling in the passing lane and wonders why someone got impatient and passed him
