@Tailspin80 he clearly allowed the truck in front to merge. The van was a chancer trying to throw himself into a gap that was far too small and too close in front of a large vehicle for those speeds.
@@jamieridler1921 At 3:11 the cammer was presented with a choice of letting the van merge in and making it a non-event or closing up the gap and forcing the van into a dangerous trip across the cross hatchlings. Clip 6 - Soaking wet road , fiesta pulls in front of lorry , ONLY A FOOL BRAKES THE 2 SECOND RULE. Try saying this while watching the lorry , there’s a one second gap. Should be at least 4 in wet conditions like this especially in a heavier vehicle that’s loaded and won’t brake like a car . Another entitled lorry driver just shows CPC training is a waste of time
5:34 given that the van driver did a poor job accelerating on the slip road, why would you not just back off a bit to ensure they still have space? Good road users fix other people's mistakes.
Because backing off could cause a knock on effect behind him, braking or slowing down using engine braking could cause an accident, especially on a motorway
@@AnthonyOBHD Woooow ok so let's run through the scenario: At 5:30 we can see that the van is going to be merging and that our speeds aren't matching so there is a potntial problem. At 5:44 we are fully alongside the van with no escape route for either driver. That's 14 seconds we had to adjust our speed. Let's see how it could have been done At 5:30 we see the risk. A quick mirror check to the right to see if we can move out to make their merge easier tells us we can't because the coach is either pulling up alongside us or already alongside us. So being generous with a slow mirror check, at 5:34 we know we either need to increase or decrease speed to create a gap for the van. Now it looks like we're driving a larger vehicle, so probably the only available option for us is to slow down. We now have 10 whole seconds to shave off maybe 4-5 mph to avoid catching the van and if possible grow the space (that still exists) a little bit. We lightly touch the brakes just to trigger the lights, indicating to drivers behind that we are slowing down to allow the van in front of us, and proceed to shave off 1mph every two seconds (or even less if we had the mental capacity to make this decision more quickly than 4 whole seconds). That's such a slow rate, we just have to adjust our throttle slightly; nowhere near engine braking or any kind of rate that poses a risk to drivers behind us. The van safely merges in front of us. The gap is probably a little tight, as it often is with cars merging in at junctions, so we continue to gradually grow the gap and if the van driver continues to hold a slower speed, begin checking our mirrors to evaluate whether we can overtake. It's really not that hard.
Highway code 259 ........Joining the motorway. When you join the motorway you will normally approach it from a road on the left (a slip road) or from an adjoining motorway you should...... give priority to traffic already on the motorway check the traffic on the motorway and match your speed to fit safely into the traffic flow in the left-hand lane. End of story as it's not the prerogative of motorway traffic to slow down for you as you must speed up to motorway speeds.
@@fabianmckenna8197 "Good road users fix other people's mistake". This implies that the van driver has made the mistake; indeed the mistake being violation of highway code 259. Do you just sit there and when they have to take dangerous action at the last second, go home and submit the clip to a dashcam channel? I don't; I help the situation and make it a non-event. In this case leading to an accident. I genuinely do know the answer. Anyone!
I think the solid white line in this case isn't really a solid line anymore, as the hard should is now being used as a live lane. It you couldn't cross it, nobody would be able to leave the motorway, or get into lanes 2-4 when joining. I think using a hard-shoulder is a terrible idea, and there seems to be so many clips in these dash-cam channels of incidents in them. As soon as drivers aren't quite sure of whether a lane is live or not, or whether a line can be crossed, then it opens up all sorts of problems.

The bus driver @1-30 should be sacked. Disgraceful.
Large vehicles often need to split lanes to get round tight junctions. The bus driver had no option due to a smart driver in the white Porsche who was positioned at the extreme left of the marked lane. Look closely, the Porsche driver encroached into the left lane.
Cause and effect.
@@idonotwantahandle2The bus driver absolutely did have another option: NOT driving on the footpath.

3:58 damn close for a suitable private reg
3:20 not a good enough video clip to show what really happened poor driving from the cammer and van, both to blame
3:10 I agree. Van at fault obviously for the brake check but cammer closed up the gap when he should have backed off and treated it as a merge in turn.
Based on the road markings (dashed lines are 4m long with a 2m gap) he could have let the van in.
That Fiesta' got the right reg.
3:59 that plate though 😂
In clip 2 I was more interested in the conversation going on in the cammers car 😂
Stranded HGV in Gloucester... could have turned left at the junction and circulated round Westgate roundabout instead of attempting the right turn...
I used to use 2 way radio years ago for driving work, & still believe it's safer to have that physical connect of holding something than the surreal hands free of now that makes me feel like I'm watching a screen instead of real view.
I won't use either now. One for safety, the other for law.
@@AnthonyOBHD Woooow ok so let's run through the scenario:
At 5:30 we can see that the van is going to be merging and that our speeds aren't matching so there is a potntial problem. At 5:44 we are fully alongside the van with no escape route for either driver.
That's 14 seconds we had to adjust our speed. Let's see how it could have been done
At 5:30 we see the risk.
When you join the motorway you will normally approach it from a road on the left (a slip road) or from an adjoining motorway you should......
give priority to traffic already on the motorway
check the traffic on the motorway and match your speed to fit safely into the traffic flow in the left-hand lane.
End of story as it's not the prerogative of motorway traffic to slow down for you as you must speed up to motorway speeds.
@@fabianmckenna8197 "Good road users fix other people's mistake". This implies that the van driver has made the mistake; indeed the mistake being violation of highway code 259. But that's not the end of the story is it?
People make mistakes all the time. Do you just sit there and have an incident every time someone's mistake puts you in danger? Do you just sit there and when they have to take dangerous action at the last second, go home and submit the clip to a dashcam channel? I don't; I help the situation and make it a non-event.
If you truly believe that because one driver violated the highway code and one didn't, that means there was only one bad driver, you're delusional. "But I was in the right" may go on your tombstone one day and I don't want that to happen to you.
@@fabianmckenna8197thank you, it drives me mad that drivers think we already on the motorway have to make way for them, it happened to me yesterday, a guy in a van had plenty of space behind or in front of me but no he wanted the space that I was filling and I wasn't going to give it to him, he was not happy lol

My absolute hate for drivers who use their phone's when driving knows no bounds! They think their completely entitled to do it until they get caught, and then the bullshit excuses start, it's an emergency, who are you to tell me what to do, the list goes on and on. If you are one of those drivers, just wait until you get the call or text telling you that a good friend or family member isn't coming home tonight because they've been killed by a driver on the phone, not so important now is it. Ignorance isn't something to take lightly just because you think you can do it "safely " Anyone caught on their phone should lose their licence on the spot for 6 months, £5000 fine, and be put on a database for insurance purposes to make them uninsurable for a year on any vehicle.
That manoeuvre of indicating, pulling straight in and then hitting the brakes is a common occurrence. The driver is going so fast to overtake , dives in and then realises he is going to re end the vehicle in front , so in turn hits the brakes. Everyday driving i am afraid.

2:46 - the clip is edited so we don't see the light change, but commentary is added to tell us that the car "was passing the light when it changed". So the car was still rolling, going through the light as it turned amber, with nothing in front of him to slow him down. But at the same time, unable to get though the intersection ahead of the other traffic - which was from a standing start, seconds later as their own light changed green.? I don't buy it.

6:07 I have a genuine question. Please help me out.
The HWC says you (in general) should not cross a solid white line. In this case, the 'smart motorway' there is a solid white line between lane 1 an 2. Where lane 1 used to be the hard shoulder.
Should you be crossing the solid white line? In this case leading to an accident.
I genuinely do know the answer. Anyone!
I think the solid white line in this case isn't really a solid line anymore, as the hard should is now being used as a live lane. It you couldn't cross it, nobody would be able to leave the motorway, or get into lanes 2-4 when joining. I think using a hard-shoulder is a terrible idea, and there seems to be so many clips in these dash-cam channels of incidents in them. As soon as drivers aren't quite sure of whether a lane is live or not, or whether a line can be crossed, then it opens up all sorts of problems.
1:50 Happens a lot at that junction.
