@@johnhancock2914 everyday someone’s light bar was getting stolen. But with vehicles getting better and brighter lights from factory seems like the need for light bars are not as high anymore so they are stealing catalytic converters. Lol
Great vid thanks. Just a suggestion if you care...when you run the wire through the firewall, have enough excess to hang a drip loop as the wire comes out into the engine bay. That way gravity does not let water run through your engine wall. Please disregard if missed you doing this. Cheers!
Instead of a unibit you could’ve just piloted the hole with a smaller drill bit then follow with the 13/32 to finish. Reduces risk over over boring the hole
Best installation video on UA-cam. I never knew about cert nuts, and was wondering how I was going to thread the bolts in. I'm going to mount mine a little bit higher up the door jam and am probably going to run it through where the roof rack is mounted. The principle is still the same though. I'll be using those cert nuts for sure. Thanks for the video!
I never heard the term cert nuts. In the industry we know them as riv-nuts and we also use a air compressed riv-nut gun with a mandrel. Didn't know there is a hand compress tool. Great video by the way. Thanks

Thanks man! I really appreciate your comment! Its a perfect way to hide it for sure. It has been 2 years since I have done this video and its still perfectly hidden and snug. no issues whatsoever. Thank you for watching!
An observation. You used the wrong male crimp on connector at the light bar. The one you used is to connector a wire to a screw. You should have used the spade connector.

If I may. Most vehicles are floating grounds. So the neutral could be attached to any metal surface close by the light. Maybe even under the screw used to mount the light. This would allow you to only run one wire for the power. Just a thought. Otherwise your install looked great.
Carlie Davis thank you very much for your insightful comment! Its always cool to hear alternative methods that could work out better. I appreciate you taking the time. Thanks for watching!

Hello, the wire from the bar is too think to hide in the groove in the side of the windshield, thats why I had to cut it that way. But i can still add the quick disconnect with the new wire, no problem. I was actually thinking of doing that . Thanks for watching and commenting!
hi, is it possible to mount the light bar w/o drilling if ur just mounting it temporarily and not permanently? Like for example, just mounting when ur going out to a dark trail....
Hello! As far as I know, drilling is required to mount the brackets to hold the bar on the windshield. The hidden bumper bar doesnt require drilling but does require cutting some inner plastic parts and removing the bumper. If you get a good set of HID low beams and fog lights, it should help out a lot if you dont wish to dismantle or drill anything.
Guess you just have to shut the front doors and get in from the rear doors if u don't wanna drill holes for the bracket lol. I have this 4runner (exact same year, trim level, and even color) as yours. I have front LED high and low beam, fog light, + led turn signal switchback light. So what's the reason you switch from HID to LED?
haha that would be funny! When I first got this truck, I damaged the old HID bulbs swapping them over at the dealership when I traded in my 2015 4runner 2WD for this one. So I needed to get new lights and decided to try their new Razir LED products. Now I do feel that the LED's arent as bright while driving in the city, so I am actually switching back to HID. I have a new HID kit already but want to make another video for it so I havent done it just yet. I'm finishing up my corvette light videos right now. Hopefully I can do it this week
I hope hidextra.com will still accept your 15% off promo code after you finish making the HID kit vid for their product :). If yes I'll definitely be ordering that kit from them as well if you think their product works out well for you...
The coupon code has been active since last summer and they sponsored most of my corvette lights also so I think as long as my videos are up, it will be active. I have been using their HID kits since 2010, never had any issues with any of the cars I had them in. They are great products and a great company for sure! Thanks for watching!
I like the video because this is my first time doing a light bar on my new truck. At least it gives my step by step of doing the holes for the bracket. The wiring part I don’t need to watch because my light bar doesn’t have a switch to turn it on all it has is a remote control.
Question: would I be able to put together the same kind of wireing lay out/harness,with relay, fuse, switch and light bar but also be able to pigy back three more smaller led lights on to the same set up?
You did the heat-shrink backwards: You should've started from the engine compartment & moved upwards, water doesn't flow uphill -unless you're planning on driving into a lake! Otherwise, good video -Thanx! };-]
The other thing you could of done when soldering your wires is cut one lead an inch or 2 longer so the two soldered connections are offset and don't make such a big bulge. I solder the wires on my motorcycle electrical extras, but my aircraft maintenance friends tell me soldered connections are not allowed on airplanes due to vibration induced fatigue. They only use crimped connections. Great video, just got a 2016 trail premium and an looking for ideas for "things." Have you done any suspension work yet?
Hey there, thanks for the tip. I have not done suspension work yet. Not sure what path I will take yet. I just got a corvette and looking for a house to buy, so I cant do anything just yet. haha Would like to lift it eventually and get bigger tires though.
The first thing I do when I get a new car is the LED swap, I recommend that for sure, its a low cost upgrade that will drastically change the feel and appearance in my opinion. here is my video on that ua-cam.com/video/XSv9wO4Tf5Q/v-deo.html
Yeah, its ridiculous to purchase a "trail premium" model and have it come with street tires. I guess that's Toyota's way of motivating a buyer to get a TRD Pro model. But then the trail premium comes with some everyday stuff that the TRD pro does not. Plus those TRD Pros are hard to find (according to my sales person). I'm just starting to look at suspension parts. Its complicated and somewhat pricey. A little taller would be better for off-roading. Not that I'm taking the brand new 4Runner off road just yet...
This is a late comment but..... Do you guys have any suggestions for a rackbar mount? I have the ovalar style Thule bars I'm trying to mount a lightbar to
Hello! Im pretty sure they only work with the curved bar. But you can contact rago fabrication and see if its possible to use a straight bar with them or if they make a set that is compatible. Thanks for watching!
Chalee Her hey there, no I havent ever had a single issue since the install. Its been almost 2 years and is going through the 2nd monsoon season and it is still perfect just like when I first did it. Still Going strong!
The Ronin Chronicle surprising. I would assume since there nothing holding the wire firm on the side windshield, the wire would go undone while driving. I might have to give it a try on my 5gen.
hey there, I dont unfortunately, but I'm sure that Rago Fabrication can tell you because they included them in their kit. Sorry but it has been so long since I made this video, I wish i would have included that info. Thank you for watching. I will try to email them as well when I am able to., then i will gladly update the description to show the size of them.
I did see this on their website, "Every mounting hole is machined to use 1/4 x 20 pan head taper screws" so those are the screws that go into the rivet nuts, if that helps at the moment.
Hey! So I just finished wiring mine but my kit came with the positive and ground both connecting to the positive and negative ends of the battery instead of grounding it. But the led bulb in the switch stays on even when the car is off and I can turn the bar on when it is off too. Is this because I did not ground the negative? And is it draining my battery with the switch bulb always on?
That was well done. Plenty of good information. However, the connectors used at the light bar end were incorrect. You had female spade connectors which should be used with male spade connectors. (Forget the obvious jokes!) Instead, you installed connectors that are for use with screws on things such as power supplies and such. Also, it would have been better if you had admitted that you made a mistake when you wired everything on the outside of the bracket then had to do it all over again to show the harness installed correctly. I nice opportunity for some tongue in cheek humor was missed. LOL The only real problem is that those light bars are made from a very rare element. It's called "Unobtainium"! At several thousand buckazoids those are just not affordable to many of us. So, once again, the boat of dreams must be dashed upon the rocks of reality. Even with the financial wall of impedance getting in the way, those of us who must use equipment that is not as expensive can make good use of this video. All things considered, you did well.
Wow you make this seem effortless. I will most definitely put on some LED light bars on my new car. By the way great questions from the fellow viewers. Some of the things I wasn't sure of such as would it be safe to run it through a car wash, etc. Also to those haters, please don't hate that someone does things better than you and yes there are plenty of people likes curvy lights than straight ones. So who cares. Take your uneducated comment somewhere else.....!
Thank you very much! All of the Lights are LED. I have a video that you can see here for them: ua-cam.com/video/PXVr8kNX_pQ/v-deo.html they require filing the housing just a bit since the base of the bulbs are so big. Or just use elbow grease like I did, was pretty hard actually. You can get Hids that will fit better and be brighter too. I just really like these tho.
So I go on the rago fab website to order same setup for my 2018 4runner. But only options for curves bars are 42inch or 54inch ? U say that ones 50inch ? Would like to know so I can place order.
Hello, it is possible that they no longer offer the 50" Curved bar from Freedom LED for this application. They do still sell the brackets though. The bar is 50" curved but it actually measures 52" if you factor the curve in there. You should contact them to see if they have any remaining bars or if they offer something else instead. They have great service, I'm sure you will get a prompt reply. Thanks for watching!
Hello, everything was well done by the time you cut the electrical cable that leads from the LED lights to the required places. You could have left the wiring in its original condition.
Hello, This particular setup is made specifically for this vehicle. I would find a group on facebook or forum online for your vehicle and ask some members if they know of a company that makes the brackets for your car. You may be able to find them that way. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Reccomend shrink tube with glue so you get a good water seal. pay extra for your shrink.. the cheap stuff is thin and doesn't come with glue on the inside.
Thats actually a great question. I dont have a canoe, so Im not sure but the bar isnt too much higher than the roof line. so I would guess that it should be fine.
Hi, thanks for the video, very interesting. One dumb question. When you connect lights through the car battery directly, the switch is always on, even when u turn off the engine. Does this have major effect in the battery usage? Thanks
ShakemM hello, thanks for watching. For the time I had it that way, I never had any issues. I have it hooked up to my switchpros unit which is designed to be connected that way.
you aren't got to do all that just connect them to your fog lights and change out the fuse and get a bigger one that's what i did and it looks and lights up awesome.
It is pretty loud at times and can even cause a vibration. sometimes it makes me feel uneasy because it gives me flashbacks of the hoopties I used to drive where I would have to listen and feel for mechanical failures haha So it does bother me however I have not taken the measures that are suggested to reduce the noise. When I get some more free time I will tackle that little task as well.
Hey thre, I didnt really do anything special other that wrap it with electical tape. Maybe the wire on your switch is thinner so it isnt as snug? You can try to wrap it with more tape to thicken it or use heat shrink as well if you are able to disconnect it. Mine has never moved since I put it in there, its as snug as a bug in a rug haha. Try thickening it though and let me know if that works for you. Thanks for watching!
Still not sure why you'd put an offroad only light bar on a 4runner.....lol.... maybe it's so the jeep has light when it comes to pull you out....... I'm just having fun with you. Great video, plenty of useful info, and sweet light bat.... that heat sink is gigantic

I would love to have this in Virginia, The only problem is, it is ILLEGAL unless there is a cover over it. Because Virginia considers for off-road use.
Hello, they offer a few things for Jeep but not windshield light bar brackets. If you need those, you should try a jeep forum and jeep facebook group to see who can recommend a seller. You could probably find out very fast that way. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

At what point would you consider upgrading the battery/wiring? Excellent video, thank you very much for the detailed explanation!
I like how you said make sure you hook up the wires ON THE INSIDE OF THE Bracket as you're soldering the wire together on the outside of the brackets. Guess you had to pull the wires out and re run them lmao
Other than that very clean. My buddy took his truck to a place and they literally drilled a hole in his roof and ran the wires there and caulked it. Freakin dumb af
Fifty81 I had to shorten them so that it could be truly hidden and so that the wires could also fit in the channel of the windshield. Its been a long time since I did this install, so Im not sure if it can be done the opposite direction and still stay so well hidden. This is the way that Mario Rago told me to do it. I did see this on their website, "Every mounting hole is machined to use 1/4 x 20 pan head taper screws" so those are the screws that go into the rivet nuts, if that helps at the moment.
The Ronin Chronicle awesome thanks for the help!
Do they make brackets to mount a roof light on a 95 Subaru Impreza w/o a roof rack??
do you have links for the LED bar and the brackets? I'd like to put those on me new 4Runner. Thanks
I would think that it is possible it could drain your battery. I'm not sure though. Hopefully some viewers can help chime in ?
I Got the same problem too. I wonder that the ground should connect to negative on the battery or ground it with the truck
Very nice looking light bar. Great installation. Only question, does this particular light bar whistle?
Spankyblack69 do a lot have a frequency pitch?
Yes a lot of light bars “howl” at higher speeds I think there is some kind of spacer you can get on Amazon that helps with this.
LOL
The only real problem is that those light bars are made from a very rare element.
Does this mount work for a ford raptor?
Wow you make this seem effortless. I will most definitely put on some LED light bars on my new car. By the way great questions from the fellow viewers. Some of the things I wasn't sure of such as would it be safe to run it through a car wash, etc. Also to those haters, please don't hate that someone does things better than you and yes there are plenty of people likes curvy lights than straight ones. So who cares. Take your uneducated comment somewhere else.....!
Yang Lu thank you very much! Sorry for the late reply. I really appreciate the compliment. Thank you for watching!
Looks great! .... Did you up grade your head and fog lights to LED or HID? I want to upgrade mines any suggestions?
Thank you very much! All of the Lights are LED. I have a video that you can see here for them: ua-cam.com/video/PXVr8kNX_pQ/v-deo.html
they require filing the housing just a bit since the base of the bulbs are so big.
If i did, it wouldnt have been slim enough to fit into the channel next to the windshield.
shrink tubing FTW!
😂😂😂😂
Excellent video.
Installation done very neatly and well demonstrated. Thank you
I dont have a truck, i have a car/sedan, and i want to install this on my car badly. Would this fit a regular car/sedan or even a 2 door car?
Hello,
This particular setup is made specifically for this vehicle.
I would find a group on facebook or forum online for your vehicle and ask some members if they know of a company that makes the brackets for your car. You may be able to find them that way. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
@@TheRoninChronicle appreciate it
Reccomend shrink tube with glue so you get a good water seal. pay extra for your shrink.. the cheap stuff is thin and doesn't come with glue on the inside.
Would this fit a 2018 crosstrek?
was wondering when mounting a canoe, would it hit the light bar?
Thats actually a great question. I dont have a canoe, so Im not sure but the bar isnt too much higher than the roof line. so I would guess that it should be fine.
does something like this increase the overall value of your vehicle? and if so how much around?
derwen talia not really
@@derwentalia yes, by $8000
Hi, thanks for the video, very interesting.
How is the wind noise?
I'm interested in knowing also.
When I get some more free time I will tackle that little task as well.
how do you keep the wire from popping out of the windshield track? My keeps popping out.
Black Silicone
Still not sure why you'd put an offroad only light bar on a 4runner.....lol.... maybe it's so the jeep has light when it comes to pull you out....... I'm just having fun with you. Great video, plenty of useful info, and sweet light bat.... that heat sink is gigantic
anyone know where you would set up the switch in the cab of the truck then?
hello, I know some guys have removed the blank switches on the left hand side of steering wheel area and used custom switches in their place. I think rago fab should have some on their website. Hope this helped and hopefully other viewers can chime in to help as well. thanks for watching!
You can see where I installed my switchpros unit in my video here theroninchronicle.com/switch-pros-sp8100-install-2016-4runner/ its at the very beginning at 24 seconds in. You can see the blanks that i mentioned as well, just above my install location.
I want a light bar but I don't want to drill into my car. Any suggestions?
Grant Headrick hey there, it was absolutely nerve racking for me so I completely understand that haha. I personally dont know of any other way, maybe another viewer will see your comment and help. Thanks for watching!
Were those nutserts M6? im trying to find out what size bit I need and this was super helpful!
Hey there, I'm not really sure. You can try to email Rago Fabrication to see if they have the exact sizes of the items they included. I will try to find out when I get some time if you arent able to either. Thank you for watching!
Where did you get the rivets?
i have a chevy silverado and it makes alot of noice and i took it to a shop and they made wholes is that normal ?
Did I read that price for the bracket correctly? $150 bucks?
OverZealous Maverik no thats not correct, they are $99.95. I think they put compared to $150 what the competition charges maybe or what they used to cost. Im not sure. Thanks for watching!!
Does anyone know if this would work with a straight light bar on a 97 4runner.
Or any other brackets that would work with a 50 inch straight on a 97 4runner
How did you keep your light from rotating down towards the hood? I am having a hell of a time keeping my light stationary. Thanks.
I use lock washers
Great video bro. I was totaly over thinking it. A couple things I am going to do different but I saved your vid. My only question, is the kit for a 4 Runner? I have a Colorado ZR2
Thanks man! its very easy to do for sure, i really hope this videos helps you and other people out. Yes these brackets are specifically made for the 5th gen 4runner only. The 52" curved bar is a perfect fit as well. Im not sure if they make a kit for the colorado, but you can check their website out and email them to find out. they are very responsive. Thank you for the comment and for watching!
Great video and very entertaining. Thanks for sharing
Wow. I dont see a link to the Bar company... ???
It was supplied by Rago Fabrication. Im pretty sure they dont offer these brackets or light bar anymore. Im not sure.
@@TheRoninChronicle they dont supply them anymore light bar
i might need to weld the side of the light bar to block the bolts the side of the light bar to make it difficult to remove it i don't want any people try to stealing my light bar make it more difficult will help
Does the unibit matter? Silicone matter? Rivet gun?
Like the type?
Mark Mettles they shouldn't matter much as long as they perform the same task. Just make sure when using the unibit that you don't make bigger hole than needed
Great install!!
Nice job man
Thank you very much!!
I would love to have this in Virginia, The only problem is, it is ILLEGAL unless there is a cover over it. Because Virginia considers for off-road use.
It's illegal in Mn too but I still see alot of vehicles with them mounted on the roof and not covered
Do they sell them for jeep's too ??
Hello, they offer a few things for Jeep but not windshield light bar brackets.
If you need those, you should try a jeep forum and jeep facebook group to see who can recommend a seller. You could probably find out very fast that way. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!
Does it fit on my honda ridgeline 07 ??
Please let me know thank you!
Will all of this fit on a 2nd gen tacoma?
Hello, these brackets are made specifically for the 5th gen 4runner. I really dont think they would fit on a tacoma, but Im not sure. Rago Fab might actually make brackets for your vehicle. you should email them and they can help you find what you are looking for. Thanks for watching!
I already have ditch lights on my 4th gen 4runner but stumbled on your video series and plan on getting the hidden bumper light as well as a roof rack light bar and some scene lights on the sides and back. At what point would you consider upgrading the battery/wiring? Excellent video, thank you very much for the detailed explanation!
I'm curious on the battery thing too. Even considereal a slightly more "powerful" alternator as well.
very helpful. You have strong, healthy looking hands!
hahah thank you! This made me laugh out loud for real haha Thanks for watching, I'm glad it was helpful to you!
I like how you said make sure you hook up the wires ON THE INSIDE OF THE Bracket as you're soldering the wire together on the outside of the brackets. Guess you had to pull the wires out and re run them lmao
Haha yes i did! It was a FML moment for sure haha
Other than that very clean. My buddy took his truck to a place and they literally drilled a hole in his roof and ran the wires there and caulked it. Freakin dumb af
Why not just use self tappers? Or tech screws?
Why are the wires coming out of the light bar so short
Fifty81 I had to shorten them so that it could be truly hidden and so that the wires could also fit in the channel of the windshield. Its been a long time since I did this install, so Im not sure if it can be done the opposite direction and still stay so well hidden. This is the way that Mario Rago told me to do it. He is the owner of Rago Fabrication, the manufacturer of the brackets. Thanks for watching!
