Matt Roscetti no problem honestly I kind of think that I made it up at least for myself. I don't remember getting that exact technique from anyone. If I did it would have been Alex Garner I vaguely remember something like that but it's like a blur.... and I think it was just more that I had seen him do white ink on black not necessarily to put more translucent Black Ink over the lines.
25 years? Seriously? A quarter of a century and not once did you think: 'Hmm... Maybe I could use a white opaque ink or paint to add details to this black blob of ink'? Well, fuck me. I guess this video was made for you then. 'Cause that's literally all it tells you and it still needs 8 minutes and 41 seconds to do so. I hope the information sticks, Matt.
That is a great tip, Rich I will use it. Great Video's. We had parrots like that, They escaped from a pet store in Monrovia and have breeded like crazy and now there are hundreds of them
cool awesome...glad I could help...sometimes fine tuning something you already do is tricky...then you see one little thing...tweak it...and your stuff is right on point!
This was awesome! Not what I expected to learn from this, but super useful! Watching you ink in these vids, I've also realized I've been holding my crow quill wrong for years now. I might have to switch it up and see how it feels. Thanks for making these, Rich!
cool...yeah you will have times when you need to do things like this. In terms of holding the crow quill...like a brush you can rotate it and try different angles...this nib was VERY dull..but the point was the technique...not so much a beautiful demo/ I will always come back and hit these ideas again too...so I can always do a really "slick" version of this later.
hahahaha...sometimes you gotta do white on black...or render a lot in a dark area...trust me this will come in handy...not sure how other pros do this honestly. I made this up on my own...as far as I can think back...I might have gotten the idea from Alex Garner but that would be the only other source I can think of for this particular thing I do./
G.T. Yakfishing I like to do one a day Monday through Friday. And then if I can do one or two over the weekend I will. my biggest rule is to try to keep them shorter. lol!
Good tip! If you don’t want to dilute your ink, just put the art on a lightbox and you’ll be able to see the black details underneath no matter how dark the ink covering it is.
Lol bro you have one of the best personalities I’ve seen in here. Definitely subscribed. Btw do you have a tutorial for black spotting (I think is the term) interior + exterior settings?
I've thought about using paint, but I've never seen any tutorials (until now) that recommend it, so I had some concern that it was a bad idea... Did you say any kind of paint? So would white oil from a tube do the trick?
John Garren I think in a week or two I'm going to transition into doing only penciling to tutorials for a while. then we'll move into the cintiq and digital coloring, and then all kinds of things. triple threat. ..or quintuple. I've got plans. Big ones!
Twenty five years and I never thought to do it that way. Thanks buddy!!

@@migueldeclercq3883 snob. lmao. not everyone has the experience in tools and supplies or knows enough about transparent/opaque.

Lil time consuming depending on the level of detail you put into your work, but not a bad idea.
What the hell did you draw, and how on Earth is this a hack? How is using white opaque ink/paint on black ink a hack?
