@@shadam_free You're wrong in saying any teaching institution. Any college graduate who hasn't learned this, and really you should know this BEFORE you go to college, hasn't been paying attention. With that, if you're only referring to grades 1 through 12, not colleges or ateliers then perhaps not. I would also point out you had horrible art teachings in the latter years if they didn't teach you at least the basic concepts pointed out in this video.
@@atenakehnaton3965 Yes you are right and I've corrected myself already. Not sure what country you live in, but primary and secondary schools dont really teach precise arts, just basics, and maybe not even that. And also I'd mention that I am at the ending year of my secondary school so I had no art teaching at all, ball I have is natural talent and videos, and I found those more effective then the 12 years of school I was wasting my time with.
@@shadam_free You should look for a book by Michael Hampton on Figure Drawing. You can find it for free as a pdf on Google, or get it off Amazon for roughly 20 American Dollars. Jim Lee took a lot from Andrew Loomis and George Bridgman. There are a lot of books out there that teach these things some good some bad.
It's so refreshing how humble you are to take the time from your busy schedule to explain these things. Sadly, not many professional artists are humble like you who take the time to answer questions. Despite being busy, many professional comic artists such as Shane Davis usually come across as snobbish when asking them tips on how to progress your art. For that, thanks a bunch Mr Lee ☺👍
It is incredible to me that I can learn from a childhood hero of mine in a way that is nearly identical to taking a classical drawing class. This is why the internet is great. Thank-you, master.
The processing of Jim Lee's hand-eye-mind coordination is so amazing. It's hard to quantify his ability, but I'll I know is that you have to draw every day of your life to even get close. Specialization, like comic POVs, forms, lighting, and anatomy is a great start. I love cars, so I became an automotive designer. I admire artists who've made anatomy and the human form their life's artistic focus. Jim is one of the few that is at the very pinnacle of his skill. He is a true icon and master of comic anatomy and theme!
Superb teacher. I wish I had this kind of resource back when I was 13/14. It would have saved me so much money that I had to put toward student loans. The youth of today is pretty lucky. Thank you, Jim.
I love the internet, getting to learn from my heroes has been amazing. Thank you Jim Lee. I remember reading batman hush and just being blown away entirely.
I am a beginner artist... many times before have I started really getting into a groove with a pen and sharpie to find myself reaching for (of all things) whiteout in my pencil bag. I always thought that I was completely nuts. Turns out even the greats use whiteout... what a trip
jimlee is a very respectable artist, the skill he uses are special ,not only the catchy line but also the cross hatching, hope you guys appreciate his art. .. he really inspired lots of artists..
I've been drawing my whole life and I'm 23. This was one of the greatest learning curves for me thanks for this video. Last two years have been in a swampy milestone, but I think once I master smooth frame by frame action scenes that look anatomically correct lol I'll say goodbye to the swamp if that makes sense.
On a completely unrelated note... I love Jim Lee's youthful voice. He's got a young, yet masculine voice that's really soothing and appealing. I would just really love hear him say in his sleaziest voice, "hey girl." .. . . i'm sorry, i'll go now. On a serious note, i love these free tips and tricks from a master. Thank you soo much for uploading these!
You're seriously the best, man. I started out my drawing life by copying the forms/lines from your work from the 90's and ended up doing okay with just interpretation, but watching you work really helped me understand how to get the volumes/shapes down with lines and shading like I hadn't before. (I played with bridgman but this really understand that concept 100 times better.) Thanks for taking the time to show us dummies what we needed to complete the circuits in our brains!
Its so cool to be able to see jim fucking Lee drawing and teaching in pixels on my bedroom screen. I’m 40. 12 yr old me at Golden apple comics never could have imagined this shit. Crazy cool. Also, I have to say, I appreciate Jim commitment what with using the sharpie on his arm n all but now I’m kinda worried for his sanity
I'd love to see him do a commentary on 'old master drawings'...someone like Raphael and his drawing techniques, maybe while reproducing something of his. As incredible as it is to watch Jim Lee bang out sketches like a machine, it'd be great to see him forcing himself to abandon his free flowing approach now and then.

Always loved your line work. Beautiful stuff. 😁
Awesome tips that muscle is called the brachialis
“Does that make sense? It better.”
😂 love this guy
Is wonderfull to live in an era when you can take a lesson from Jim Lee himself anywhere un the world a
Jim Lee Should really do a master class on drawing. I'd buy it no questions asked.
I would like just take my money. Class room setting, trust I'm there no matter where, what or how.
Every time the guy picks up a pen it’s a masterclass.
Jim Lee's teaching is more effective than years of wasted time in any teaching institution. Explains, puts it in practice and demonstrates it.

Thanks Jim Lee. Proud of you. :)
Why pay an art class if we have this fucking master to teach us?!
I'm so glad for Jim Lee, and I learned so much from him already.
Wow! The new Batman villain is looking great!
Are we just gonna gloss over the fact that we are being taught by a god at work
Thank you so much for sharing your drawing technics. How to make a picture pop out on a piece of paper. The shading makes a whole difference

The big muscle on the forearm is called the brachioradialis and is actually composed of two smaller muscles.
I was under the impression that the brachioradialis was a single muscle? Are you combining it with the extensor carpi radialis longus?
