@@RichardFriendartist I was wondering have you did a video on how to shade skin tone on smooth characters like women? I know it's kind of different from shading muscular characters?
Strathmore 400 series Bristol is a solid choice. Most paper under 200g will buckle if you apply lots of ink and/or water, though. It's just not thick enough.
Richard, you're amazing, just watching you work is therapeutic =) ...anyway, what pens did you use on this vid, so I can buy and use them - thanks, you're awesome!
dries pretty fast, but you definitely can't rub your hands on it for at least 10 mins. but it's no big deal. just give it a try, there's plenty room to land your hand.
Well if you're inking over Pencils... you have to be careful cuz you can smudge alot.. but if you're inking over non photo blue you don't need to worry smudging and Mr Friend is inking over original Pencils from David Finch...if he's inking over non photo blue...well it be blue
This is an older video but if your still looking for video editing, Da Vinci Resolve is free. Flashback Pro by blueberry software is inexpensive ~$50 and worth having a look at.
Hey Richard ! I think that I've watched this video like 10 times lol I hace a question ! How do you deal with the pencil under your inks ? Do you erase it one you are done ? Because that is what I do but then the inks loses in intensity which is very annoying for the fine details... I use microns by the way, not inks Thank you for your answer and great work !!!!! 😊
Can you give any info on how to get into inking? I'm not trivializing the art, but I could easily do this, and have recently been thinking I should do something with my artistic ability.
Just stepping back a little for a beginner; that doesn't look like a pencil drawing you are inking over. What is it? And those black areas you are outlining, is this so you can fill them in Photoshop or something similar? Thank you
It's Pencil just printed out again so he could ink over it. He outlines areas and marks it with an X so he can come back later and fill it in with black ink. It's something a lot of artists including myself do
MR SHARPER He’s inking over David Finch’s drawing of The Hulk. Hulk’s head is VERY often normal while the rest of his body is dramatically oversized. David Finch is also known for putting just a sick insanely large amount of detail in his rendering. And if you’ve ever seen Finch draw, you know it is NOT easy inking over his work.
I've just recently discovered your channel. Thank you for the constant inspiration.
cool awesome thank you Ron.
the wood values are so on point

John Garren thank you John. :)

Rich its two years later that I'm watching this, and its still dope!! You make me wanna whip out my brush and get to work!! lol.
Fantastic work. Just amazing at how it comes alive.
Fantastic. It's awesome to watch pieces in process.
wow, now I want to be your friend Richard

Looking good Rich. HULK SMASH!
"You can't learn this stuff from a book........unless it's my book." :P Good video, I just wish he'd turn down the grift.
Amazing work!
This is so helpful and enlightening!! Amazing skills!!!
Trying to talk while working on an art piece is difficult. Concentration is very important. You're very informative, thank you.
I was about to ask if you’re inking D Finch and you said it. I love your inks.
So beautiful ☺☺☺✌🏼✌🏼
So when comics are inked, do you actually ink over the original pencils or do you ink a photocopy of the pencils?
Usually a photocopy of the pencils
@@sirlester3 but how would u erase the photocopied pencil work after uve finished inking?
@@bd4597 no they ink over the pencils, erase, and photocopy only to paint for colors
Awesome...keep it up
Richard, you're amazing, just watching you work is therapeutic =) ...anyway, what pens did you use on this vid, so I can buy and use them - thanks, you're awesome!
Jeezus. How fast does that ink dry that he can put his hand on top of it that fast? I’d be scared to death to smudge it.
dries pretty fast, but you definitely can't rub your hands on it for at least 10 mins. but it's no big deal. just give it a try, there's plenty room to land your hand.
Man how do you ink a pencilled paper.
Cuz it’s non photo blue

I'm going to call your videos "InkPorn". LOL. Imagine me saying in a Wayne's World voice, (and bowing) "I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy!" LOL.
wow 🔥

Question: What ink did you use?
I use Ultradraw!
When your filling in ink right? What are you doing with the fine liner to just the outside part of the darker areas?
Can you give any info on how to get into inking? I'm not trivializing the art, but I could easily do this, and have recently been thinking I should do something with my artistic ability.
what nib did you use on the first part?
Hunt 102 or you could call it a crow quill

@@idioticgaming6054 actually he is inking over the original Pencils... if he used Photoshop ...he might have inked over non photo blue
I really want to use those type of pens for inking, but the problem is that I don't know how to use them without the ink to fall and ruin my drawing:(
That ink you just did, is the most sexiest thing I have ever seen.
Sorry about that, but I’m love inks that help the image to Pop Out more.
What ink you use for your g pen?
It's not a gpen it's a crow quill... and he uses a rapidograph ink
Wowo
What ink pen and nib are you using ? Your work is AMAZING.....
He uses a hunt 102 nib (croe quill), rapidograph ink, a Sable brush
Is this direct onto the pencils or is this over a copy with intention to remove original lines digitally?
Joseph Adams
From the looks of it, he’s inking directly over the original pencils.
Yes ....if he's inking over a copy..you might notice it's blue...non photo blue
The best paper I've found is EON, try it!
maravilhoso
Get da Vinci Resolve from Blackmagic Design for editing. It's free and it's excellent.
Actually Adobe Premiere CS2 and After Effect CS2 are free AND legal..... just oldie but goodie!
Stathomore Bristol semi-plate would be the closest match, my teacher and I tested everything on the market, and semi-plate is the closest we got
Finch used to recommend the Strathmore 200 smooth Bristol but they only sell the 300 now. Pretty much look for 100lb smooth bristol board.
dunder mifflin. . . I think
The head looks small and the shoulders weird, the others are perfekt

If the head was larger, it would make the body look smaller. That's why "large characters" like the hulk, have small heads.
the head seems too small in comparison
u r funny
His head looking too small
dude did you even notice that your hulc's head is fully anatomically wrong?

He’s inking over David Finch’s pencils. Each pro illustrator have their own style, this is Finch’s style.
@@ericknopf2109 yup and Mr Friend is just the inker... he's inkng over the lEgEndARy DAVID FINCH!!
