Thank you for this awesome guide, still fresh and relevant in 2023! Your explanation is clear and concise even when covering topics no one else does - the video shows off what you're talking about really well.
I am an Aerial CB main since MHX and still my favorite style in MHGU. It's just too powerful and efficient when used properly especially when soloing. it's a shame that not many hunters really utilized this style and I'm so happy to see this amazingly done ACB guide on the youtube, it's a lot of footage and editing, great work! This guide alone should earn you lots of views and subs, keep it up :) Also, your editing style greatly remind me Gaijin Hunter's earlier videos when he was too shy to talk XD I would recommend you try vocal for a guide like this, with your skill and fine editing, you'll be famous in no time
You did it, you actually did it... and its AMAZING! I have never played charge blade in my life, let alone aerial charge blade and was still fascinated. Killer job
This video is almost 2 years old, yet it's most probably the best tutorial for aerial CB ever done. I just started playing the game again after a 1 year break and while I was relearning old school gameplay mechanics I decided to try out new weapon/style combinations. I am now hooked to Aerial CB. Thanks a lot for posting this!
As someone who has never played aerial CB, this is an impressively high quality and detailed guide. A friend of mine is looking to play GU for the first time soon and is looking at maining CB. I’m definitely gonna send this to them.
Came here after butchering a Shogun Ceanataur trying to break its shell. Google said i should try Aerial style, and i wanted to see how it performs. Im glad i found this guide, and I'm enjoying Aerial CB alot.
after 2k hours on world, decided to get XX, as i play a lot of cb went for aerial cb immediately, not frkin disapointed man this is so fun to play XD !
Love it! I am even more excited to go for another deviant hunts! Thank you sir for this! I got a little tired with aerial GS, now this aerial CB looks completely on a different level ❤
Just picked up mhgu in wait for rise. This is the only way i play it and breezed through most of the game with it. Glad to find an awesome guide for it, thanks man
At first I was skeptical if I should aerial CB but this video flipped all my expectations upside down and I'm ready to play whack-a-mole without a care in the world
This was a great guide, Deaga. Thank you. I've been re-exploring MHGU using aerial style with weapons I never did in the past and I'll be adding this one too the top of my list to try next. I love aerial. It's so underutilized. Thanks again and great job. This video was very well put together
Wow! Speechless. Amazing tutorial and I was looking for a different way to play charge blade since I really miss mh4u playstyle in gu. Thanks and hope we get more of this style of content. Again amazing.
This was very informative. Never thought about delaying the aed to hit instantly like that. Hitting the wings because the hit box happens so early happens way too much lol. Thanks a bunch!
I played Aerial style almost exclusively since MHGen...and i didnt knew that you could input movements before the vault to change the direction of the jump! Never too good to learn something new, and awesome video
This was very well thought out and explained a lot of in-depth mechanics of the style. Well done! This proves that CB is both fun and strong even after the nerfs. In some cases, the changes to GPs to work as super armor work better than GPs from 4U as you are able to trade damage without much risk. This is especially true for Adept CB that gets a GP on the phial charge attack.
"Strong" is a very... strong word, I'd say. :p Gen and GU still feature the worst iteration this side of the planet has seen (MH4 CB was even worse), unfortunately. But hey, it's workable at least!
Amazing, amazing video. I'm incredibly impressed by how effortlessly you manage to convey complex informations while leaving space for the viewer to elaborate on their own what they just saw. Truly an incredible work, I was already interested in trying this combo after watching some of your speedruns but now I can't wait to start jumping and charging! Thank you so much for making this~
In regards to aerial SAED: The drawbacks can be somewhat mitigated if used in multiplayer to quickly build up KO or break hard parts. As the explosion centers on where the axe lands, this is situational and only works on some monsters. Additionally, it can deal enough KO to instantly stun most monsters if you use limit breaker 2 or 3, but that requires giving up your one and only hunter art. Situational, gimmicky, but fun as hell.
Hi, I'm a filthy striker CB in GU. I never seen a great aerial CB and show who actually own the sky. I hate those flying wyvern smirking and laughing above us. Your guide was very inspiring man, gnna put it in good use 👍🏼
awesome guide! you should make more guides like this Instead of all others guide which just tell you the button control was your guide superior Also the damage combo is godsend!
Been playing since gen, aerial cb was a meme style in that game due to the cb nerfs, it got some huge buffs in gu, impact phials dealt more damage, and most importantly you can do an aed with a charged shield, it turned the style from kinda viable to absolutely busted
Helloo! I know this video is pretty old, but I've been getting into mhgu and I always thought Adept was the master race coming from mhx (cuz yanno, Adept is op), but this looks really fun and challenging let alone efficient and stylish! I've been watching all your videos on aerial cb too trying to find a good ideal core build, but coming from an Aerial IG and Adept CB main in gen, I think I can get into this. Thanks for the guide, and I look forward to more of your mh content :)
I intended to do it voiced at first, but I really underestimated how much work goes into making a real video, rather than just copypasting hunts... By the end of it, I just wanted to get it done, so voice got scrapped. :p Sorry for that, but my patience really was at the limit
Never touched the charge blade in the older games even world. You have opened my eyes and made me pick up the old 3DS and renewed my MH Gen approach. Thank you.
Keep in mind that, in Gen, you can only do the SAED in the air (spends your shield charge) if you have a charged shield. That means you'll probably want to not charge your shield at all back there, which is a huge disadvantage. It's still a lot of fun to use Aerial CB there (I did!), but it's mu ch weaker.
The whole part of the Aerial Evade applies to all Aerial styles, so you can do that straight from this guide into gunlance. Good luck with learning GL's aerial moveset tho, you'll be on your own for that. :p
I will by no means become an aerial CB main from this I’ll still predominantly use Valor CB and adept CB but man if aerial isn’t the most defensive way to play the thing. Strong evading ability, strong blocking ability, two forms of crown control via mounts and knockouts and it still has decent ability to lay on the punishment. This is definitely my new go too for monsters I get hit by a lot. Edit: I may at some point have to bring limit breaker with me just so I can finish a monster by dropping a 10 phial nuke on their head while shouting “plus ultra”
The Aerial Vault is a strong defensive option, yeah, but the invincibility also comes out super late. That means you're playing very reactively a lot of the time...
Deaga I mean “playing reactively” is how I’d describe playing the weapon in general. It’s not like greatsword for example where you sit in front of it doing something.
honestly aerial style is probably my favourite one design-wise out of all of them in GU, striker and alchemy are neat ideas but stripping back your weapon doesn't feel great in many cases and some specific weapons get specific options buffed for some reason (striker lance😒). adept and valor just feel way too good honestly, it hardly even feels like you're playing monster hunter with how free they make dodging attacks. Aerial style lets you do a lot of the stuff adept and valor can do but it feels like you actually have to put in work for it (which is unfortunate for some weapons because it doesn't end up being super worth it in many cases). The vault i-frames are weird, but if you learn to use them there's a surprising amount that you can do with it, and i think charge blade's aerial AED is a good example of what more weapons *should* have gotten- not like a big damage finisher, but at the very least vaulting should give you a little more reward than, for example, the same old regular greatsword charge you'd normally just be doing on the ground.
This guide is so underrated, man. I've been experimenting with CB since I started playing MHG and GU. The weapon is beautifully complicated. It's not something that asks for skills, because it NEEDS skills. Just having that skill to wield CB in every mode and style will reward any hunter with enough power to go up against even the toughest of all that is tough.
does mount damage build up during a KO? so if a monster is KO'd I can keep doing aerial attacks so once it gets up it's already at the mounting threshold
Load Up is a given from the video, but using it means using either the Barrage Earring (clear all Arena quests, rip in low defense) or Acorn Helm X and/or Acorn Mail X in G-Rank, which have more defense, but will restrict your other armor choices. Artillery Novice is also great as you should be using Impact Phials anyway and it's very cheap to gem in. Airborne is a fine skill, but it's a bit hard to gem in with Artillery (you need 10 slots to get both!) and Novice is a bigger boost to your Aerial AED than Airborne is. Besides those, just standard damaging skills. Sharpness +2, Razor Sharp for maintenance if you really must, Weakness Exploit, Critical Eye +3, repeat Offender, Critical Boost, etc. I recommend using an Armor set Search program and seeing what you can fit with your charms (You'll never be able to use ALL these skills). You can also just steal the set I briefly showed while talking about load up in the vid. :p
I have to say that this was a really, REALLY good guide, props to you :). I was wondering, do you think aerial chargeblade in mhgen is also that good, since you can't really charge your shield in this game :/
Prioritize some kind of sharpness control (any combination of Razor Sharp, Sharpness +2, and Absolute Readiness to maintain high sharpness), Artillery Novice, Load Up, typical damage boosting skills (crit meta, Weakness Exploit, Critical Eye, Repeat Offender, Critical Boost, etc) and Airborne, more or less in that order. Use some armor seach program to see what you can do with your charms. Obviously you can't fit in all of those in a set, try to prioritize a few of them. I also very quickly showed one of my sets on the beginning of part 3.3, so you could also just steal that, I guess. ;) It's using a Tenderizer +4 000 charm iirc, but it has one empty slot (so just having 2 slots on the charm would suffice)
Acorn Helm X/Esurient Mail XR/Esurient Vambraces XR/Esurient Faulds XR/Rathalos Greaves XR Charm is Tenderizer +4 000 iirc, don't have my switch on me right now to check
Two questions Because the impact phials do impact damage, do Impact AEDs count as all Impact or Cut and Impact? Are elemental phials just as good with the combos as impact against other parts?
Impact Phials deal fixed damage (ignores hitzones entirely) dependant on your raw. They also deal KO and exhaust damage. Elemental Phials are generally not worth it in GU. Damage has been nerfed compared to 4U and they deal no KO or exhaust damage. They may be worth it against some of the more raw resistant monsters, such as Chameleos and Gravios, but that's situational at best.
Unfortunately no because I've been literally playing Aerial CB pretty much exclusively in Generations, XX and now GU. My main idea with this video was to give a deeper view of Aerial CB. While I could certainly do something about a few other weapon/styles I've used (Valor LS, for example), I feel like the videos would be pretty basic. There's plenty of guides at that level already. However, I do have other plans in mind... Stay tuned!
thanks for the quick response! and of course I will; I'm always checking your channel for new runs and other MH content! it's funny you make this guide right as I am getting into aerial CB, it's a huge help man!
Quick question, what's the difference between charging shield from sword mode and axe mode? I notice that when I charge it from sword mode (A+B after shield thrust) I get a yellow shield even with 5 phials charged, but when i charge from axe mode i get a red shield with the same amount phials stored. Im quite confused since they both seem to do the same thing except the different colors.
I think the yellow charge you get from charging from sword mode does not increase guarding capabilities, does not give phial bursts on blocks/gps and also only gives 20 seconds of charge per phial (charging from axe grants 40 seconds per phial). Don't quote me on that though, it's been forever since I last played GU. I might be misremembering it.
The red shield increases your axe bonus damage and gives you guard + 1. It is just always better to go for the red shield. Thats why it is ofter a little bit neglected I think. And in the updates you don't loose your red shield if you make am aerial SAED. At least thats what i read.
Mmm i’m a CB main and i’d love to use Aerial CB. As i was watching a 3yrs old vid of Herny speedrunning the Fated Four with Aerial CB, I noticed he never charged his shield. He explained in coms that it was pointless due to many reasons.. I’m not sure about this and now that I see your guide I don’t unterstand why he said this Have they been any changes to Aerial CB from MHG 3ds and MHG Switch? sorry for this long commentairy lol just wanted to be sure
What Herny said was true for Generations on the 3DS, in that game your only option in the air was to SAED which would use all phials and the shield charge. GU introduced the option to also do just a regular AED, which spends only one phial
@@Deaga Thank you for your help. Would you think that it would possibly work with a Tenderizer +5 ooo or could you only reach WE bc it was a +6 ooo? I know that you said you couldn't remember but I'll take anything
@@AlexM-rg2tq since I have a slot left over in the video I imagine a +5 charm would also work, but I can't really confirm that. Been a huuuuge while since I last touched GU

Deaga I mean “playing reactively” is how I’d describe playing the weapon in general. It’s not like greatsword for example where you sit in front of it doing something.

Nice video- I've just switched weapons- which armour skills are useful for aerial charge blade
this is awesome! thank you!
I have to say that this was a really, REALLY good guide, props to you :). I was wondering, do you think aerial chargeblade in mhgen is also that good, since you can't really charge your shield in this game :/
It's a lot worse, but useable. I was an Aerial CB main back in Gen.
+Deaga Oh that's unfortunate, but I prefer guild style anyway. Aerial cb is still a lot of fun :D
Thoughts on using Evade Extender, and Evade+ for Aerial CB (or just Aerial in general).
Help me a lot thanks for tutorial deaga
I know I’m like a year late, but does anyone have recommendations on the best charge blades for high rank or early g rank?
Probably the Elder Line early on, it works for most blademaster weapons. It's the one that looks like the starting CB, except it's red.
Deaga Thanks man and great video
good guide sun bro!
What's an armor set you would suggest for aerial CB?
I tried to look at your set but my computer isn't able to make it out so can you just list the armor pieces to help me out
Acorn Helm X/Esurient Mail XR/Esurient Vambraces XR/Esurient Faulds XR/Rathalos Greaves XR
Charm is Tenderizer +4 000 iirc, don't have my switch on me right now to check
Alright I'll check but like you I don't have my switch to check right now
Two questions
Because the impact phials do impact damage, do Impact AEDs count as all Impact or Cut and Impact?
Are elemental phials just as good with the combos as impact against other parts?
Impact Phials deal fixed damage (ignores hitzones entirely) dependant on your raw. They also deal KO and exhaust damage.
Elemental Phials are generally not worth it in GU. Damage has been nerfed compared to 4U and they deal no KO or exhaust damage. They may be worth it against some of the more raw resistant monsters, such as Chameleos and Gravios, but that's situational at best.
wow! you did a great job on this. do you plan on making more weapon/style guides for GU?
Unfortunately no because I've been literally playing Aerial CB pretty much exclusively in Generations, XX and now GU. My main idea with this video was to give a deeper view of Aerial CB.
While I could certainly do something about a few other weapon/styles I've used (Valor LS, for example), I feel like the videos would be pretty basic. There's plenty of guides at that level already.
However, I do have other plans in mind... Stay tuned!

Otherwise a great and comprehensive guide, but just not quite complete :P
I used to be an Sword and shield Aerial then now I use chargeblade and I wanted to see what was outhere for it
Super legit video.
Impressed man!!!
Ok, so how do you perform the aerial tier 3 discharge? Whenever I try to do the normal input in the air it does the full phial slam.
Just press A for a normal AED or X+A for a super AED
this was actually really freaking helpful
you failed to mention what skills you were using for reference, otherwise good video!
Well, bcs of this guide I can farm white fatalis easily and SOLO
thanks brother
how do you jump for attack? im very new to mhgu, and aerial style seems really interesting to me. 😳
On Aerial style only, your evade (B) turns into the small hop that can be used to vault off monsters
Mmm i’m a CB main and i’d love to use Aerial CB. As i was watching a 3yrs old vid of Herny speedrunning the Fated Four with Aerial CB, I noticed he never charged his shield. He explained in coms that it was pointless due to many reasons.. I’m not sure about this and now that I see your guide I don’t unterstand why he said this
Have they been any changes to Aerial CB from MHG 3ds and MHG Switch?
sorry for this long commentairy lol just wanted to be sure
What Herny said was true for Generations on the 3DS, in that game your only option in the air was to SAED which would use all phials and the shield charge. GU introduced the option to also do just a regular AED, which spends only one phial
Deaga Oh ok thanks for the answer !
MH would be so much more fun if it had hitboxes around the monsters actual bodies. lol
How to do aerial saed with red shield everytime i miss the saed and land the uaed instead, can you explain the timing
Press only A instead of X+A
@@Deaga thanks i though it was x+a
I found a way to bully monsters!
What's the music in the beginning??
At the very start? It's the theme for large monster battles in the Ruined Pinnacle
How come I lose my sheild charge when I aerial aed and you don't???
9:22 what's the charm?
I no longer have that set saved, so I can't confirm it with 100% certainty, but I believe it was Tenderizer +6 OOO
@@Deaga It's alright. Thank you so much for the help m8
