    Do you know where I can find the torque specs for mounting the intake and exhaust manifold back on to the cylinder head? I don't have a Bentley manual. It sounds like I will need to invest in one.

  • @bro8759
    @bro8759 10 місяців тому +2

    I currently have my head off and I am putting on a new head gasket. When I took of the head I had the exhaust and intake still connected to the head. I have already separated the head from the exhaust and intake. If I start with just mounting the head down first (without the exhaust and intake ) how hard is it to bolt the exhaust and intake back onto the head. Will I have enough room for tools in the engine bay? It just looked like you wouldn't have any room to "wrench" the bolts to mount the exhaust and intake back onto the head. This is my first time doing a head gasket replacement.

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  10 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for watching! Bit of a pain in the butt to get the bolts back in behind the engine. But not too bad. If you put the manifold and exhaust header on the head and have a friend help lift the heavy assembly on would be easier. Good luck!

    Is there a specific advantage to using the ARB studs verses the cheaper studs? Can you reuse the ARB studs?

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  11 місяців тому

      Not really an advantage but personal preference. I like running studs instead of a bolt. The bolts work just fine and you shouldn’t have any issues with them.

    Hi Cory, can I ask you if an extra lock was on the camshaftwheel? A crescent like it is on the injection pump? Or is the gear “loose” running on the camshaft?

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  4 місяці тому

      The cam gear is a “pinch” fit to the cam. No lock. Once pump, cam, timing belt tensioner and engine are set. The cam gear spins to take up the little adjustments then you torque the cam gear nut to spec and the cam gear “pinches” or presses onto the cam end. If this makes sense. Thank you for watching.

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  Рік тому

      I’ve had good luck with Elring gaskets for years on many different models of cars. I’m sure most “name brand” Head gaskets will work. Stay away from unmarked no name gaskets. I wouldn’t trust those. Buy the gasket from wherever you like.

    Hey have you ever run into any timing belt tracking issues after replacement? Mine keeps tracking towards the diesel pump when I turn the engine over a few times.

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  3 місяці тому

      Hello, I have not had that happen. Sounds like you need to check all the components the belt rides on. Make sure they’re all straight, no worn bearings or gears not crooked a bit.

    corie...i had to top dead center my motor without a crank mark flywheel mark.. with the head off....the fly wheel was put on wrong..so i had to take the head off, the head gasket needed to be replaced anyways..the pully with the key polished the key down to nothing , the nut loosened off and obviously tore the belt off...i had another head available...its showing lots of compression but its showing signs of wanting to fire and burning fuel...but wont start...i wondered if the injection pump was a 180 degrees off...iv never had problems figuring out whats wrong...would u guys have any ideas..iv had these cars and motors in my life for 22 years...what do u think..i turned the car over by hand before cranking the car to make sure the valves and crank were lined up ...but the car wont start!!?

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  Рік тому

      Did you adjust the timing? Try turning the injection pump forward and try to start it. Than back and try to start it. Is the cam’s offset slot aligned with the top of the head when the timing belt was installed?

    Great video. This is exactly what I was looking for. My transmission and flywheel are disconnected. I assume I can follow the same procedure but use a dial gauge to find TDC on the piston? I forgot to check before taking off my flywheel and putting the engine on the stand.

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you Sir! Just as long as the number piston 1 is at the top of stroke. You’re at TDC. A dial indicator would work measuring the piston height and the deck of the block for number 1 piston.
