@@ducksauce9187 I understand your point, I just think people should be held accountable for their own actions no matter the actions of others, a good king should've made the choice that was best for the crown and his house, which was to marry Laena and unite the line of Aemon and Baelon, no matter how charming and sweet and comforting Alicent seemed to him, he was vulnerable and she took advantage of that but Laena was the better match, he put the first stone for the upcoming conflict right there and then, a good king would've been able to put his feelings aside and do his duty, Viserys is not a good king, though he is a good man

I love that confrontation on the bridge, especially how Rhaenyra speaks in Valyrian for the parts that are just kind of a conversation and then in the common tounge for the part she wants Otto Hightower and the people behind her to understand. She knows perfectly well that Daemon isn't going to hurt her, and she nows that the others don't know him or her well enough to understand that.

Honestly, really impressed with the show so far, this episode was amazing.
Even without "real action" it was a great episode. A clear showcase of the writing talent they have now, only matched by the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones, with a limited budget, Game of Thrones had to stand out without flashy action so there was a real need write smart and engaging dialogue. House of the Dragon did not have that need, but takes after it's predecessor when it comes to it's writing.
Pacing feels just right, not too fast, not too slow. Characters are built upon in a clever and meaningful way, even though the book lacked concrete details on this, the writers manage to add something that feels natural. This is why I feel confident this series will redeem the legacy of Game of Thrones left behind for the TV world inside Westeros.
Looking forward to the rest of the season, along with your reactions and so far so good.

I feel the pacing may be too fast with the 6 month time jump to episode 2 and now over a year time jump to episode 3. I obviously understand why they need to keep things such fast paced with the time jumps but it doesn’t change how my personal preference is slow burn shows like Game of Thrones and Better Call Saul. I feel casual watchers with no knowledge of dance of dragons could find it too fast as they won’t realise that this is just backstory for the juicy stuff. Casual watchers may be turned off of the show because it would be easy to think you’re missing a lot of important off screen stuff with these mega time jumps. I’m loving the show because I love this world and love these characters. But I do hope things slow down a bit in the later seasons.

Alt shift x explains the opening beautifully if you want to watch his video about it but to shorten it kinda … it begins with showing a visual of what old Valyria looked like … the blood trail then represents the bloodline of the Targaryen’s beginning with Aegon, his sister wives Visenya and Rhaenys and each of their children … Aenys & Maegor.
King Maegor never had children so the line continues with King Aenys children & their descendants… 15 out of the 16 Targaryen’s come from Aegon & Rhaenys’s line.
The blood then continues down from Aenys his children The Good King and Queen Alysanne & Jaehaerys and their 9 children leading to where we are present day passing Viserys, Aemma & Rhaenrya.
The blood also flows by a sigil representing Rhaenrya in the shape of the necklace Daemon gave her.. the blood then continues past a symbol reflecting Alicent the future Queen and the Hightower sigil for Otto.. then it leads past the Velaryon sigil and their line & eventually the blood moves by the scene of the great houses swearing allegiance to Rhaenrya.
Finally the blood crashes down like a waterfall symbolic of the future Targaryen’s destruction of each other.

If you notice, Viserys is extremely uncomfortable with tiny, 12-year-old Laena Velaryon. She's the perfect match for him politically; she is intelligent, poised and dignified, but she's physically still a little girl (even if she's gone through puberty) and Viserys obviously is horrified at the thought of marrying her, even with the caveat of delaying consummation for a couple of years. In contrast, he's got his guilt over the death of his beloved wife Aemma, and his new relationship with a more physically mature girl, the less politically desirable but older, and at least looking like she can manage to get through pregnancy alive and deliver a healthy boy, Alicent Hightower. Not to mention that Viserys has become emotionally comfortable with Alicent. He doesn't love her, and he doesn't know that her father pushed her into his bedchamber; but he definitely feels at ease with her.
What Viserys should have done is find a good marriage for Alicent with a lord's son, someone who will treat her kindly and who has more wealth and status than Otto Hightower; and marry some pleasant 18-year-old who is not his daughter's best friend, or wait two or three years for Laena to ripen. But, since Viserys dislikes confrontation and fears that more little girls will be pushed at him, he chooses Alicent. Bad move.

I think that Alicent isn't being deceptive, necessarily. She's clearly uncomfortable with what her father has asked her to do, as evidenced by her picking at her nails all the time. I feel like she feels forced to go along for her father and her family, but doesn't enjoy it.

10:07 If you rewatch this conversation you'll notice the subtlety of what's going on (it's tough to see on first watch). Hightower and the Maester are playing good cop, bad cop with Viserys in an effort to make him choose Alicent over Laena. The Maester speaks about the obvious positives of marrying Laena, then cuts off and waits for Hightower to speak. Then Hightower agrees but in a way that makes the prospect seem undesirable through his tone and word choice (this happens a few times in the short span). They keep Visery's attention by bantering back and forth but are swaying him against the marriage without arising suspicion.
So far this show has been excellent, and this scene is a perfect example. The fact you thought they were on board highlights the clever misdirection and subtle undertones.

The opening is the Targaryen family tree. Sync the time stamps with the episode:
0:04 - Doom of Valyria and Aegon's crown
    0:13 - Rhaenys and Visenya
    0:20 - Aenys
    0:27 - Jaehaery and Alysane
    0:35 - Baelon and Alyssa
    0:43 - Daemon
0:50 - Viserys and Aemma (Arryn sigil)
    1:00 - Dead Baelon
    1:10 - Rhaenyra
If you look closely, you can actually see the gears drown in blood in the order that they died (Alysanne’s is submerged before Jaehaerys’, Alyssa’s is before Baelon’s, and obviously Aemma’s is before Viserys’).

You really can see how Otto is playing everything like a fiddle. How he was the one reporting about what Daemon supposedly said (we didn't see the footage of him saying it so who knows how he said it?) about Baelon, thus splitting the two brothers. Then how he pushes Corlys Velaryon away by having his own daughter skeem her way by Viserys' side. And ofc Otto could have predicted it would also destroy Viserys' relationship with his daughter, at least partially. Now might be even more damage. Viserys had the occasion to face his brother and mend his relationship with Daemon on this episode and Otto stopped him. The only one making the family survive being Rhaenyra, going all the way around to avoid bloodshed, from every side.

You're invested in this faster BECAUSE you know Game of Thrones and what could await you ;) Regarding Raenyra and Alicent: both were thrown in this situation by her fathers. Rhaenyra is made heir by her father, but then still reluctantly accepting it's her father's duty to marry to hold the throne. But instead the dutiful, more effective marriage to Laena he chose a marriage out of affection - replacing her mother. And additionally he takes her best friend away from her. He betrayed her. Alicent was pressured by her father to please the king and delight him, and she is torn between her father's wishes and strategical thinking and her best friend. And yes, I also think she takes a liking to the idea, and she likes the king. They make her betray Rhaenyra's trust, and she knows it. Just look at Alicent's guilty face in the end, she's quirming and very uncomfortable. Rhaenyra was played by both, Alicent and her dad. Otto, btw, is the main schemer here. He planned the marriage for his daughter all along. And he went personally to Dragonstone because he knows Daemon detests him - he wanted to provoke him so he could divide the brothers for good. Rhaenrya's coming prvented him to succeed. It's not a look of respect Otto gives her.

They're repeatedly focusing on her hands to show how conflicted and stressed she is by it all but at other times you definitely get a sense that she's also ambitious and wants in some way to get ahead of even Rhaenyra. What happened on Dragonstone was not about a wedding. Daemon wanted to speak with his brother. Everything he did was draw Viserys out of the castle, and the council. I think he wanted to talk without the council whispering in his brother's ear. It was a bluff to clear things up. When he didn't come, that ruined everything. Though I think Daemon came out with a lot more respect for his niece, he now knows she is not as weak as her father.

Hey man. Love your reactions, I haven’t been able to watch many lately as you’ve been doing shows I haven’t yet watched but I’m glad you’re doing this. Will watch them all with you. Well after I’ve watched them anyway. You pick up on small things, like the model the king was playing with, I missed that nugget!! 👏

I'm worried how people are going to handle the time jumps. There is going to be an even bigger one going into next episode. It also just confuses me since they are doing a second season yet seemingly will be rushing through a lot of material.

I avoided spoilers completely for this entire show. I'm slightly upset because I was really hoping this was going to be Aegons conquering of Westeros. I don't care now. I am really into this.
I love how they are very carefully crafting the mindset of the Targaryen family. But also the rest of the characters. And if you notice they are doing it by heavily mimicking original Game of Thrones characters. Some are even mixed and matched.
The way king Viserys carries himself fairly humbly.... Reminds me very much of ned Stark. Which makes me nervous that hes going to die. And you see that ego and arrogance that family is famous for in the way the king will not allow anybody to speak ill of his brother. No matter how terrible the guy might be. Speaking of his brother. I can't be the only person that sees the very clear mixture of inspiration from both Joffrey and Ramsey Bolton. You don't even have to squint very hard to imagine Ramsey Bolton with that long blonde hair, and see he would look exactly the same as Daemon. Hell his voice and Ramsey's voice are strikingly similar in both pitch and cadence.
Obviously, Rhaenyra Is meant to look damn near exactly like Danny. But they have also thrown in the personality of Arya. And the last of this rant..... Before she died. While she was lying there dying in child birth. The Queen In my opinion very much resembled Catlyn Stark.
Edit: Crap! I forgot the very first one I noticed. And it REALLY got me for a moment. The Hand Otto Hightower, that guy is basically Tywin Lannister without the Gray hair. He looks, Talks, And carries himself exactly the same. So much so, that I actually asked myself out loud how the hell tywin would have been alive 200 years ago. And for the record....... I freaking LOVE that we are going to get somebody like him again.

Ramsey literally killed his father, step-mom and half brother..
He raped Sansa, torture Theon, he is extremely sadistic.
Daemon on the other end didn't once try to kill his brother when he was the only heir for 10 years.
He tries to make his brother respect when Corlys openly disrespects him
Daemon is more like Jaime he does horrible things but never against his family.

    • @guruxara7994
      @guruxara7994 2 роки тому

Maybe because their accents and vocal tones, but the similarities ends there, Ramsay would feed his dogs with Rhaenyra in a blink. Daemon is more like a mix between Jamie and Tyrion, as Tyrion, he doesn't give a shit about royalty and boxes.
