Daemon obviously wants power but he doesnt want to kill neither his brother nor niece. He wants to be the Hand and be named heir. Him stealing the egg was a way of getting his brother to come to him, and instead he gets Otto, the man he hates. Also, he and rhaenyra obviously have something going on
Daemon is a bit like Robert in that he really likes the idea of being the king and thus the most important dude around, but he would absolutely hate the actual job of governing. What he really wants is for people to love him or at least pay attention to him. That's why he pulls all these reckless but extremly attention-grabbing stunts. I suspect a lot of that has to do with him being a second son.
he is very loyal to his family and wants to protect them for sure, he would have NEVER killed Rhaenyra ... he loves her very much , even in the brothel Mysaria asked him if he wants a maiden with silver hair... :D shows that he has a thing with his family members :D clearly in love with Rhaenyra, he also saw that Otto wants to break up their family....and told Viserys the truth , he is very easily manipulated and a weak king , he has good intentions and he loves his daughter but totally failes to communicate with her
Corlys was telling the truth. Corlys is family. Daemon, just didn’t want to hear that people, besides him. Can see his brother is weak and is getting played by his own council. When the hand TOLD, the King he could not go to Dragonstone and get Daemon together. As, $hity, a King as Robert Baratheon was. Do you really think, that would fly with him? Hell no. He is the King, the council is supposed to suggest and advise. Not make the final decision. No backbone.
yes, I think Daemon loves his family, his brother and Rhaenyra, he will never hurt them but he tells him the truth to his face, Vyseris is weak and makes mistakes. I could be wrong but that's my feeling.
@@balerion77 Why? Was it important for Corlys to know his place, because Viserys sits on the throne? Viserys' inaction is causing a lot of problems. I don't blame Corlys for reacting the way he did.
About fifty years before the events of this show, there was a Princess named Rhaena Targaryen. Her dragon was Dreamfyre. Her lover, Elissa Farman wanted Rhaena to invest in her expedition to sail around the world but Rhaena refused. So Elissa stole three of Dreamfyre’s eggs and sold them in Essos to build a ship. It’s heavily implied those three eggs are the same eggs given to Daenerys 200 years later.
how did these eggs though get to the dragon pit if in the books they are still in essos with the Sealord aren't they? all this happened during Jaehaerys reign...
I just realised the symbolism of Viserys putting his hand in maggots when the ‘hand’ of the king is literally eating away at him until his reign is rotting lmfao, genius
The opening actually represents the Targaryen bloodline, each gear they show is a Targaryen member starting with the Doom of Valyria and ending with Rhaenyra. If a gear becomes gushing with blood it means that member is dead. So the opening theme is pretty much just a huge family tree. Pretty cool.
Wouldn't be shocked to see it update as the episodes go on as well. The show is going to cover a period of around 30ish years so a lot of changes will happen.
miguel the director of battle of the bastards and the long night will direct 3 episodes including the first one which means the other 7 will be shitty and also they should cast triple a hollywood actors in season 2 .
Rhaenyra going to face her uncle was definitely the greatest scene, but the look of betrayal she shot her father when she found out that he was going to marry her BFF instead of the 8yr old I cackled
@@Ian-Omega not anymore, third ep preview shows that she'll have already given birth to her first son, so it's over for them, no more flying and eating only cake because their fathers suck
Matt Smith said in an interview that the only people Daemon truly cares about are Viserys and Rhaenyra. That’s true in the books as well. He just shows it in bad ways.
@@octaviablackthorn9 I haven’t read the books, but these are my observations: It doesn’t seem like it so far. It seems like he loves them unconditionally. His actions so far have been to get their attention, he hasn’t actually caused any harm. He thinks he’s qualified to be HotK, and thinks Otto is awful. It pains him that Otto sits there. No doubt he’s heard his niece (who he clearly adores) is nothing more than a cup bearer even 6 months after being named heir. Remember, Aria was cup bearer for Tywin. While not the same, it’s close. The heir shouldn’t be a serving girl. This probably angers him, so he takes the egg which actually will make her come to him. In doing so his hope is that her father will see what he does, that she is worthy of their house, dragons, and the throne. He didn’t put up a fight when she approached. He acted slightly angry for show, but in reality it looked like he was happy to see her. Just like at the end, he tells Corlys not to say anything about the king. His family means everything to him. It hurts him that they don’t feel the same, but at this point he’s still seeking approval. I have a feeling he always will.
Daemon is in many ways a Targaryen version of Oberyn as a personality type I would say. He is really charismatic, and gets bored extremely easy, he is not the type to live a peaceful, calm, ordinary life. He is a man of action that likes to get his hands dirty and at the same time he has a good clever and cunning mind to use behind the scenes, that most great, even highborn warriors tend to lack.
He also doesn’t want to hurt his family but he doesn’t wanna sit idly so he just does petty shit like stealing the egg he just likes chaos but as you saw when it escalated to her telling him to kill her he stops immediately
Great comparison. Forgot about the Red Viper. Daemon also has Tyrion and Jaime Lannister in him. His whore-mongering and wit of Tyrion. His swordmanship, honor, and complexity of Jaime. And Jaime was the only who ever showed love to Tyrion from the Lannisters. Daemon shows the same brotherly love towards Viserys.
Dany's 3 dragon eggs have already been stolen from dragonstone during Viserys father's reign and are currently in Essos. And Daemon loves his family but wants attention. Edit - i meant the previous ruler before Viserys as his father never reigned. My bad. Grandfather Jahaerys's reign.
The scene with the maggots was my favorite. In that scene we see that King Visyres wound on his hand has only gotten worse and its the wound he got when he sent his brother away, the wound, like their relationship has festered. Also the symbolism there, the King's hand is rotten. It could be physical and a reflection of Otto Hightower, who pretty skillfully manipulates the king into marriage with his daughter.
Rhaenyra should definitely have a seat at the table, and be able to speak without Otto Hightower talking over her. Alicent is going down a slippery slope - keeping her chats with Viserys secret from Rhaenyra then telling Rhaenyra to not worry about the "matters of lords and kings" when Rhaenyra voiced worries about being replaced as heir, and in the next breath using Aemma's memory to manipulate Rhaenyra, based on what Viserys has told Alicent... Corlys telling truths the entire episode. Strategically for the Iron Throne and Westeros, Laena Velaryon would have been the best political match. Unfortunately, Otto used Alicent to emotionally manipulate Viserys.
I agree after she was officially named hier she should have a seat , but she would not be allowed to vote , she is still a minor , ( one exception existed, king dearon the young dragon) but the hand out ranks her , he has equal authority with the king , as long as he is in office. In the books her grandfather and grandmother had seats from 14 and 12 years old but thier mother ruled as queen regent and step father as lord protecor and hand of the king .. ( a baratheon) but cup brarer is an honor but your mean to be seen and not heard .
I mean idk Alicent couldn’t really tell Rhaenyra about their chats though? Because her father nor the king would like it and she has to follow what they command :/ she doesn’t seem to be enjoying what she’s doing in the least, constantly anxious etc.
yes...I just said it somewhere that Viserys is too easily manipulated and Daemon was right...he is weak and he totally needs protection from himself , everybody is manipulating him and he is sooo blind to it , he also complitely isolates Rhaenyra , failing to communicate with her, I know that Lady Laena was only 12 but Alicent is 15 ...thats not much better and politically it would have been better if he married Laena because that would thave strenghtened their family but now they let the outsiders in and in my opinion Otto Hightower is just the worst :D
Its because of her age that she is not on the table. That ans the fact she is a female heir is already a very touch subject. They are already playing with fire as far as not upsetting some important alliances. It's generally just not done, with some exceptions.
@@HK-gm8pe It was one of the reasons George wrote these works that he wanted to show a good person doesn't necessarily translate to being a good king. King Viserys is a good representation of that. He is easy to manipulate and essentially destroys his family, his house and his ability to maintain power and control due to his good nature and intentions. On the flip side, we also see how the super Honorable Ned Stark fared during his short time as regent.
If I was Rhaenyra, when I find out my dad is marrying my best friend I would have just took a dragon and joined my treacherous uncle, but I'm petty like that 🤷🏾♂️
miguel the director of battle of the bastards and the long night will direct 3 episodes including the first one which means the other 7 will be shitty and also they should cast triple a hollywood actors in season 2 .
The most important line for understanding Daemon as a character was in that final scene, for Daemon it is very much a case of “The king is my brother, I can be as much of an ass to him or about him as I want because I love him, but if anyone else fucks with my brother they’re fucking with me, because he is my brother and I love him. Above anything else Daemon is fiercely loyal to his brother and his niece, he just also happens to be a massive pain in the ass about it. Daemon sees everyone for who they are, all of the people who are manipulating his brother’s tenderness and kindness, and feels powerless to stop them, so he acts out, trying to push his brother to show some strength, and also as a clear threat to the rest of them.
Daemon, for all his ambition, clearly loves his family. He laughed when Viserys said he had no ambition for the throne but he didn't when Viserys said he would never kill him. He defended Viserys when Corlys insulted him. He genuinely wanted a high position by his brother side. He might have wanted more once in that position, like Otto said, but harming his family wasn't in his mind.
All of these characters remind me of someone from the original GOT series. Daemon Targaryen: Jaime Lannister Viserys Targaryen: Robert Baratheon Rhanerya Targaryen: Daenerys Targaryen Otto Hightower: Tywin Lannister Alicent Hightower: Margaery Tyrell (Which makes sense because technically they do share a bloodline)
I think one of the best scenes was when Daemon defended his brother. He could have let the rant continue, I’ll even bet Daemon himself has ranted about the king from time to time, but instead he basically told Corlys to shut up. He shows it in a different way, but he truly does care about his family in his own way.
Dany's three eggs were stolen decades before this show takes place. They were taken by a woman called Elissa Farman who was the lover of Rhaena Targaryen, the older sister of the Old King Jaehaerys I. Elissa promptly sold the eggs in Pentos in exchange for ships which she used to sail West of Westeros and was never seen again.
@@d3vp131 before Fire and Blood was released George said we'd finally find out the origin of Dany's eggs. It's pretty obvious that the three stolen eggs in Pentos are hers.
I was going to comment the same thing. The dagger Arya wound up with is carried by Viserys. When he was disclosing the prophetic dream to Rhaenyra, they zoomed in as he put his hand on the hilt.
Nikki's whole "SHE IS LITERALLY A BABY" comment just made me laugh so hard, mainly because of how she said. Also, ladies marrying that young doesn't surprise ME that much; King Tut's bride was eight years old and HE was nine, when THEY got married
Does anyone else get the feeling that King Viserys is scared of using the dragons? Perhaps the brief time that he rode Balerion the black dread frightened him of using that power, or his council has instilled that in him, only time will tell. Also, have to agree with Nikki here, the princess tried to speak up at the council meeting and they send her away, as heir, it is her place to voice her opinion, even if the council disagrees, they should explain why, so that she can learn.
The Hand sent her off because he never plans for her to come to power. He wants someone he can control. It's why he volunteered to go confront Daemon. He wants Daemon dead because of his claim to the throne. He also wants the king to be safe because the king needs to be alive to produce an heir with Otto's daughter.
Well he said it in front of Balerion's skull, the dragons are a power humans (including him) should have never involved themselves with. By those words, it seems clear he deeply fear and respect them. I guess riding Balerion, even for a brief moment, change your perspective. That and his passion for history
Isn't Viserys scared of everything? He doesn't take any decision, other than with his guts when it comes to his dead son and wife. Other than that, he's just become a puppet.
Please rewatch the scene with Rhaenyra and Daemon, there is a lot going on under the surface. Daemon is a very interesting and complex character. He's definitely grey.
@@harsh_1910 It really depends he isn't bad when it comes to his family or when compared to other past or present Targs. He is definitely a rouge but he isn't a maniac like Ramsay or Joffrey or eventually Dany.
I didn't say he isn't a bad guy, just that he is morally grey and who he is bad to really depends. He isn't horrible to everyone like many deranged characters we have seen in GOT. He's definitely an anti hero.
I honestly think, that the only reason that Daemon went that far, is just because he wanted to talk to his brother. He was sure that case like that would pull Viserys out of the Red Keep, but instead, there is Otto
Of course she knows that. Look at the smile on her face after Daemon gives her the egg. That isn’t just a “I got it done” smile, that’s a “I KNEW he would never actually hurt me” smile.
25:25 When Dany got hers she was told they would not work but were beautiful decorative pieces. "The ages turned them to stone, but they will always be beautiful"... But they can lay dormant for centuries and still produce dragons
The bridge thing is great. Rhaenyra and Daemon both know perfectly well that he isn't going to hurt her, it's why she speaks to him in valyrian for the part that isn't even really a confrontation and then switches to the common tounge for the last bit so the people behind her can understand.
When Princess Rhaenyra surprisingly flew in with Syrax to Dragonstone shows the rise of her character arc! This is when Otto realized that she is going to be a problem and not just be a weak push-over.
I loved Rhaenyra in this episode I love the way she faced Daemon at dragonstone she did it without bloodshed in which her Otto could not have done. I also feel bad for Rhaenyra when she found out her father was going to marry her friend I would have run my ass out that council meeting too.
Daemons not pissed. He's the only one who has her back and the only one he respects her. I have a feeling later on you're going to see him lay shit down to save her.
The shots of Dragonstone and Rhaenyra apearing on her dragon and speaking with her uncle was absolutely THE BEST🔥🔥 Edit:- Also for anyone who doesn’t get the intro: It starts with the Aegon’s colony and the blood 🩸 is referring to the family-tree of house Targaryen and also is a symbol of their house (Fire and Blood). Loved your reaction
Watching all the interviews before, every actor agreed that Otto Hightower is the most evil/bad character of the entire show. And that's saying something because most characters are considered gray characters in this series according to everyone. Hightower reminds me of Littlefinger. But, I am actually liking Daemon.
Viserys gives me Rob Stark vibes. Just because you're a "good" person doesn't mean you should or will be a good king. Just like Rob Stark made that fatal mistake in not keeping his word to the Freys, Viserys just betrayed his daughter, has a pretty toxic relationship with Daemon, and now lost the support of the the richest house in Westeros at the time. I read Fire and Blood but watching it on live television just makes you realize he's really the reason for the downfall of the Targaryen house. Viserys was all about the peace times but doesn't even realize he basically started The Dance of Dragons(civil war).
I see very little similarity at all. Robb was not passive or frightened of a fight, nor did he allow himself to be taken advantage of by his advisors. He was no fool. He also showed a cool head when making decisions at such a young age......he was only 18 years old when he died. And that was due to falling in love and making one teenager/foolish decision.
@@NelleBear I meant in terms of their downfalls. Robs downfall was 100% his own doing. You don’t make a deal with the Freys in times of war then go back on your word. Especially being a Stark. Viserys started the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty. If viserys doesn’t marry or just chooses someone else rather than those manipulative hightowers then most likely there is no civil war and the dragons live on. I don’t wanna spoil anything for you but viserys marrying Alicient was the beginning of the end for that family.
@@krytiic7861 (I've read the books, can't spoil anything for me.) And its true, both chose their wife using their hearts....not their brains. But still very different types of leaders. And a bit unfair comparing them as Rob was only 16 at the time and was being forced to marry a not-so-beautiful girl......its easier to understand his poor decision based on lust as a teenager. (Plus there is no proof the Freys wouldn't turn on him regardless in the future to ally with the Lannisters, if they thought the Lannister alliance would serve them better.) Viserys really didn't have an excuse.
@@krytiic7861 And it could've all ended in a similar war anyways if Viserys had sons with Laena Velaryon. Rhaenyra still would have fought for her claim. Viserys real downfall was impulsively naming Rhaenyra as his heir to spite his brother Daemon. There was always a high chance he would have a male heir if he remarried, so that was a stupid, stupid mistake on his part.
Matt Smith's voice is very much like Iwan Rheon's. I noticed it in the first episode when Daemon was hyping up the Gold Cloaks and called them loyal hounds - sounded exactly like Ramsey from the end of Battle of the Bastards.
Maester Aemon was wise to pass up the throne. King Viserys reminds me of him in a way. Also, Nikki will be happy to know that maggots are still used in medicine for this very purpose 😬
Unfortunately only the archaic draconian societies might use maggots, some eat monkey brains, dogs, snakes, pangolian, bats etc etc SCIENCE exist therefore many old ancient medicines are not good plus scientifically proven. Maggots, flies, rats, roaches etc etc not healthy
Laena speaking about Vhagar gives me the most excitement I've ever felt for a tv series. It's only 2 episodes in and so far HOTD is all the best parts of why GOT was so good. I hope the show continues to be this good with every new episode.
"Any man who must say, "I am the king," is no true king." ~Lord Tywin Lannister. I love that the Dragons are not only distinctive in appearance, but in their roars, as well. Like Caraxes was more high pitched and sort of strained due to his abnormally long neck, but Syrax was lower and more guttural.
Honestly, really impressed with the show so far, this episode was amazing. Even without "real action" it was a great episode. A clear showcase of the writing talent they have now, only matched by the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones, with a limited budget, Game of Thrones had to stand out without flashy action so there was a real need write smart and engaging dialogue. House of the Dragon did not have that need, but takes after it's predecessor when it comes to it's writing. Pacing feels just right, not too fast, not too slow. Characters are built upon in a clever and meaningful way, even though the book lacked concrete details on this, the writers manage to add something that feels natural. This is why I feel confident this series will redeem the legacy of Game of Thrones left behind for the TV world inside Westeros. Looking forward to the rest of the season, along with your reactions and so far so good.
Thought the pacing was faster than what we had in the last seasons of GOT. And though good, the writing definitely relies on a lot of heavy exposition. Personally this feels a bit more like the last seasons of GOT than the first ones, especially because the storyline is more focused on a smaller set of characters while in the earlier seasons of GOT we had a bigger range of characters inserted in various storylines that were drastically different from eachother, this feels more self-contained, faster, closer to the last seasons than the first ones.
It was good.. But Im sick of the whole "I'm a woman so I can never make my own decisions storylines". Its been played to death now and its not even true..Game of thrones is loosely based on our own histories,, and weve always had powerful queens..Catherine the great, Elizabeth 1st, queen Victoria, Athelfled of mercia, Budica so on and so on.. it's true there were some places that wouldn't allow queens such as France..But it's not true of Europe as a whole.
@@Gabagu totally agree, a good strat and mat Smith's acting has been amazing..But its along way from when game of thrones was great..But still it's a good watch
@@Gabagu 6 MONTHS have lapsed between EP1 - EP2 ...I guess that is how they accelerate the growth and also get the offspring of each faction in civil war.
2nd episode of the series and these characters aren’t just pulling my heartstrings they’re actually making me shed tears. Like Rheanyra I also lost my mom far too soon, and while the pain has gotten easier to bear, like Viserys said it’s a pain that will *never* go away. This is the reason I loved Game Of Thrones, not only for the large scale battles or political machinations, but especially these genuine and beautiful moments of love, friendship and family. As for the characters, the way Rheanyra rode Cyrax in and confronted Daemon was such a badass power move! She has the bravery of Dany, the temperament of Jon Snow, and the ingenuity of Sansa. I would definitely kneel before her. And Daemon is already a complex character, I thought he was actually ready to go to war with his brother but at the end of the episode we see that he gets pissed when Corlys insults Viserys.
Guys i really dnt think Daemon is the villain here, why does everyone hate him. I can clearly see the affection he has for his family. He seem like a person who doesn't things on mere impulse, I think he has a hidden agenda and does these things on purpose. Maybe he wanted Rhaenyra to be the heir.
Um, Daemon isn't hated by everyone. He's actually the most popular if you took a poll. I haven't read Fire & Blood (2018) but I have an outline how it ends. Daemon will do something that will make many people hate him. And you'll see the relationship he develops with his niece. We're still very early into the story.
I like that Daemon’s stance changes when Rhaenyra pops up, like a boy being told he can’t keep the toy he picked up in the store and he even sounds pouty.
Rhaenyra and Daemon and by FAR the most interesting characters. She seems to be the only one who can control Daemon and I love it 🤣 The rest are all shady as hell. King is naive. But it's true to form for me to stick to loving the Targs 🤣
Rhaenyra is likely upset for a couple of reasons over her father marrying Alicent. Of course they are friends of similar age. But by choosing Alicent, he clearly choose someone he actually cares about, which means to Rhaenyra that her father is replacing her mother. Before that, it was just a marriage of duty to the crown, something she understands and accepts.
I feel like Daemon enjoys creating a bit of chaos and watching how it all settles, like a kid shaking a snow globe. He clearly still loves his family and is impressed by his Niece when she stands up to him.
The likely hood of Dreamfyre being the dragon that laid Drogon Viserion and Rhaegal is highly likely, if the eggs are not hatched they fossilise and Daenerys’s eggs were, so it’s highly likely they belonged to Dreamfyre, also a woman stole 3 of her eggs and sold them to a merchant to build a ship, so id say those are the eggs Daenerys is later gifted back they hatch over powerful fire while someone is also burning alive, a life for a life.
I love how Daemon literally steals a dragon egg and the heirs seat on Dragonstone, all just to see/get attention from his brother. Seriously misunderstood character
Daemon defo won’t end up being a massive villain. U can see he still really cares about his niece and brother, he just wants to be given a bit more power and respect
I actually really love that people think Daemon is gonna be this big issue, and be the big villain of the season. When the actually villain shows up you guys are gonna miss when Daemon stole the egg because he wanted his brother to come check up on him 😂
@@tarenhempstead559 are you dense? how isn't this a spoiler, you are saying that they are wrong about something and that something else is going to happen. Good grief
I’d read the book like 6 years ago or so. So some stuff is slowly coming back in memory for me. As I don’t remember a lot from the book. But man, people who are already in love with the show, get ready because it’s only the beginning of such a great story.
Both your post-episode commentary is my favorite part of all your show reactions over the years. It really helps me understand these complex stories that I'm too dumb to figure out myself.
Daemon's my favourite so far. He's a complex character. That line" I will speak of my brother how I wish, you will not" was Powerful! Gave me chills. I've always liked anti heroes. Can't fuckin wait for the next episode.🐉🥚
Episode 1, Rhaenyra liked her position of not being the heir. This episode she's haughtily telling her auntie that the nobles bent the knee to HER -- forgetting that they did so only because the King all but commanded them to. Calling it now: "The gods have yet to make a man who lacks the patience for absolute power." This is gonna apply to all these women as well.
@@AlexS-oj8qf well she did also say she wanted her father to have a son while talking to alicent near the tree but she actually told her mother that she wanted a daughter instead....rhaenyra doesn't tells her full intentions to anyone even her bff..only her mother so she probably could be lying about not wanting throne... Or was not lying but inside her heart she wanted her father to acknowledge her existence as his only hier....
Rhaenyra was okay NOT being the heir and dreaming of a freer life in Ep1, cuz she thought it would never happen. Either she had a brother and he would be heir, or she would have a sister and Daemon would be heir. She looked pretty overwhelmed in the last shot of Ep1. By Ep2, it’s been 6 months, maybe she’s settled into the idea and actually WANTS and believes it might happen now….
I love your compassion for the GoT universe so much. You're both sparkling personalities on top of that! "I"m a girl-dad" Steven comment about the kings daughter being a force to be reckoned with was so sweet
Dragonstone is the ancestral seat of the Targaryens, so generally, it is given to the heir to the throne (we see a real-life parallel with the Prince of Wales and the Monarch of Britain). In GoT, one of the reasons why Stannis believes he's owed the throne is because Robert gave him Dragonstone.
I'm 5 minutes in, and wanted to write that I absolutely loved how you explained your feelings and analysis of the first episode. I definitely also appreciate that this channel doesn't give any spoilers in any way. Maybe it's because you also haven't read the books like me, but nowadays I am trying not to watch such videos because everyone has just read the books and they end up spoiling stuff. This channel is probably a safe space for me. Liked!
Same sentiment here. During most of GoT, I had read the books, watched every video, read every post and saw a lot of spoilers. This time, I did none of that and haven't really even seen much of the trailers or "coming up next week" videos...and even though we kinda know what is about to happen, it's really cool to see the ideas and themes played out with relative few spoilers. 🏘️ of the 🐉
Thank you for that comment. It’s 100% a safe place since we have zero knowledge of the source material. Any thing we talk about will be analysis of what we’ve seen or pure speculation and guesses on future events.
The dagger you're talking about is called The Catspaw Dagger. I believe that it appears in the first episode. Viserys is clutching it as he tells his daughter about Aegon's dream the Song of Ice and Fire.
Really love the perspectve of watching people that haven't read the book, there were moments even this early on that I knew were coming but were still hard to watch.
Steven made me so happy when he said that Daemon sounded like Ramsey. I thought the exact same thing when I saw it and it made me so happy that he noticed it too.
I had a moment where Alicent Hightower reminded me of Margery Tyrell. Then I went and looked up what happened to the Hightower family in GOT. They were there, just not mentioned much, but the important thing is, Margery's mother was a Hightower! Spot on casting!!

Great reaction as always, but no, the dagger that killed the night king is the one that the King wears on his belt. He grabbed the hilt in ep 1 when he was telling his daughter about the song of ice and fire, Daemon has a valaryan steel sword named night sister or dark sister, it was mentioned in ep 1 also when he gave his niece the valaryn steel necklace.
Thank you, Steven. I've been watching many reactors thus far and when I first heard Daemon's voice, I said he sounds like Ramsey Bolton. I've been waiting on someone else to say the same. They have the same voice, same tone and same demeanor. Now, I'm just waiting on Daemon to say, 'My hounds (or dragons) will never harm me'.
Rhaenyra put her life on the line to settle the small conflict between Otto and her uncle, I think she showed lots of qualities as a future leader, I think Otto was close to being turned to charcoal if Rhaenyra had not intervened, She also showed class selecting a Knight who has real abilities and not a knight with family that has political gains and power.
I just want to shout out to Milly Alcock's fantastic Aussie TV show Upright, by Tim Minchin. Lots of swearing from her in it, but it's great showcase of how good she is as an actress.
So far this show is amazing. This is all the prologue to the actual Dance of The Dragons and I always imagined it would be hard to translate into a TV show because of all the time jumps they have to make that leads up to the actual war, but they've done an amazing job. I love that they give the scenes room to breathe.

In the books a targaryon prince at age 12 married a 26 year old woman. But you notice for the men its the same the king , or robb stark . Marriage is politics. Prince deamon was made to marry his wife by the king . ( and there was a few ways out , ) like the nights watch or became a measter , or a septon / septa . Priest/ nun .
she is supposed to be 12. allthough looking VERY young for her age. I just think its funny that the king will marry a 15 year old, but cannot possible wait 3 years until Laena is the same age... or even marry her now and then wait 3 years. bit short sighted on his part
@@felicia3924 12 is still a baby to me. I know, I know, things are different in this world. And as far as waiting... She's 12, he's has to wait until she's 14 before he beds her. Well ,Daemon simply wants to be by his brother's side through ups and lows(basically the Hand as stated in episode 1). Seems to be that way in my opinion and doesn't like how he has been treated by him(being manipulated by the hand and other advisors). He sees through the manipulation but Viserys doesn't which seems to frustate Daemon and he acts out . I could be wrong.
The dagger that shows up in GoT in Bran's assassination attempt and that Arya uses to kill the Night King - Viserys is the one wearing that dagger. And I love your smiles and joy at the new intro to immediate horror and "The Fuck?!" at the rotting crab hands 🤣
Alicent really is a Cercei. “Sir Crispin?” - he’s so disrespectful I love it 💀 The bridge scene was the best. Damon loves his family- I love those two honestly 👏🏼 the portrayals are amazing as well. Perfectly shot scene. He chucked that egg like a football 😆 Daemon: *planning to be the next heir, steals the baby’s egg* Daemon: yeah don’t talk sht about my bro To me he isn’t a threat yet or that much of a problem since he hasn’t really done much but and try and provoke the king with little actions. Viserys made a decision that now makes daemon a lot stronger tho so that’s on him
@@dajointcf4803 SPOILERS. ehhh. Alicent is cersei in some ways, but she’s nowhere near as evil. She’s more cunning and intelligent than cersei, but she doesn’t hurt people for fun or just because she can. Everything alicent does as time goes on is out of love and concern for her family & children, yes like cersei, but none of it is malicious. Yes she gets pitted against rhaenyra, but as a mother who thinks her son should be on the throne AND as a woman trying to make her way in this world, she doesn’t really do anything that others wouldn’t. Even rhaenyra has villainous qualities. I don’t think there’s any one character in this story who is truly fully “good” like we had in GoT.
@@suddenimpulse030 do you mean my comment? Or the comment under mine. As far as I see it mine didn’t have any spoilers, and the comment wrote spoilers before so I’m sure it’s okay
As the ancestral seat of the Targaryens, Dragonstone belongs to the heir, the Prince/Princess of Dragonstone. With Rhaenyra now first in line, it belongs to her. Though according to Daemon she needs to come of age first. It's kind of like Kensington Palace for the British royal family.
Viserys actually holds THE dagger. He places his hand on it while describing the White Walkers in Episode 1. Daemon has Dark Sister, which I believe is his sword, that’s Valyrian steel.
Foreshadowing the intense Daemon and Rhaenyra moment. I think they are the main two characters of the show and story will build to moment where they either go Jamie / Cersei to have a pure bloodline or one of them kills the other. Also with Alicent's "betrayal" and that she kinda stole Rhaenyra's place as queen, that could be a reason for Rhaenyra to ally herself with Daemon.
King Viserys has Catspaw, the valerian dagger Arya used. This was a normal dagger. The dragon eggs Daenerys had were brought from the Shadowlands in Essos.
Viserys is making the same mistake ned stark did. He made the wrong choice, now this choice will ripple and most likely is the start of the end of the Targaryens. Daemon made a good point, Viserys is not good at being king
Viserys is a good man, and he's trying preserve the peace that Jaeherys left the realm. His sensibility is more modern, which plays poorly in Westeros. He knows he should remarry, and refusing to marry a 12 year old is a good decision. He would have to wait 2 years to consummate the marriage, which means nearly 3 years before the potential of more heirs. In that sense, Alicent is the better choice.
I don't feel Daemon was punked by Rhaenyra. He has a soft spot for her. What he really wanted was for King Viserys to show up and resolve the issue. I don't see him really going to war with his brother. Daemon is very much misunderstood. I guess the producers are doing a good job
Daemon is right, Otto Higtower is a snake. Dude sent his own daughter in to 'visit' the grieving King hoping he'd make her pregnant. Dude is 100% power hungry.
If I'm not mistaken, the King has the dagger that Arya used to kill the Knight King. He grips it when he's telling the prophecy to Rhaenyra at the end of Episode 1.
Allicent has the Sansa position of being dutiful and not being martial in any sense. She seems as a genuine person in that she cares about Rhaenyra and Viserys. I think it is a mixed motivation in her interactions. Daemon is a mixed bag in the book. He is viscous and cruel. He is also a visionary. Daemon epitomizes both side of the Targaeryn legacy.
That moment with Mysaria (Daemon's paramour) insisting she came with Daemon because she finally sought liberation is surprisingly my favorite scene in the episode. I think it really underlines how everything the Iron Throne stands for and embodies is so regularly a deterrent from the kingdom's sense of unity and liberation. Like, most of King's Landing's population seems to live in squalor, or at the least is so far removed from the regal aesthetics of those the show centers but all anyone in the realm can concern themselves with is when the king will wed a new wife, quickly dispatching of the apparently beloved queen that died a horrible death by the King's own decision. As such, it is unsurprising that Daemon uses Mysaria and the grand symbolism of marriage and pregnancy as a way to get back at Viserys the same way Viserys used the symbolic naming of Rhaenyra as his heir was a way to get back at Daemon. Basically, a bunch of dick wagging, of which the women must endure the blows to their sense of worth as a useful and charged symbol within the realm but ultimately regulated to an ornamental and regularly servile station. For me the most interesting characters thus far are Princess Rhaenys and Alicent. You just know they both will end up being much more diabolical than they currently seem...

Hell no.

@@octaviablackthorn9 I haven’t read the books, but these are my observations:
It doesn’t seem like it so far.
That's why he let's Rhaenyra push him around a little bit. He would of totally destroyed Otto and that whole crew probably with his dragon.

A good characterization.👍

Plus, Dreamfyre is most likely the mother of Dany’s dragons.
Grandfather, Jaehaerys was his grandfather not father.
It was during Jaehaerys's reign
Grandfather. His father was never king. Jaehaerys was king when Elissa stole them.
Omg that’s dope
Whoa. Great catch.
Brilliance!
Big brain moment
But the “queen that never was” said something about the king bearing his cuts…. His cuts from the throne arent healing. Is she poisoning him?
On the flip side, we also see how the super Honorable Ned Stark fared during his short time as regent.

It was technically spoiled in GOT, when Joffrey shows Margaery around the Sept. :P
Daemon Targaryen: Jaime Lannister
Viserys Targaryen: Robert Baratheon
Rhanerya Targaryen: Daenerys
Targaryen
Otto Hightower: Tywin Lannister
Alicent Hightower: Margaery Tyrell (Which makes sense because technically they do share a bloodline)

He shows it in a different way, but he truly does care about his family in his own way.
Dany's three eggs were stolen decades before this show takes place. They were taken by a woman called Elissa Farman who was the lover of Rhaena Targaryen, the older sister of the Old King Jaehaerys I.
I think it's just as simple as him being a nice and peaceful dude. Maybe even a bit of a push over.
She solved the situation in Dragonstone without spilling a drop of blood. Is the Council that has to learn from her.

I honestly think, that the only reason that Daemon went that far, is just because he wanted to talk to his brother. He was sure that case like that would pull Viserys out of the Red Keep, but instead, there is Otto
He could have just requested an audience with him
I feel like Daemon and Rhaenyra have a close bond and he doesn't want to hurt her and she knows that.
Oh, you have no idea about that.
@@Phanthief95 yeah

Visery downfall is being selfish ..he wants to be happy but your happiness doesn’t supersede the good of the realm
A lot of action in EP2...Action of the Mind. Wheels are set in motion ..

You'll see
Um, Daemon isn't hated by everyone. He's actually the most popular if you took a poll. I haven't read Fire & Blood (2018) but I have an outline how it ends. Daemon will do something that will make many people hate him. And you'll see the relationship he develops with his niece. We're still very early into the story.

But it's true to form for me to stick to loving the Targs 🤣
I love when you can tell that the couple in UA-cam channels love each other very much. You two are so fun and I love your reactions!
The blood in the opening is like following the “bloodline” of the families. So happy to have the GoT music back! 💜🥚🐉

She’s the rightful heir.

Rhaenyra was okay NOT being the heir and dreaming of a freer life in Ep1, cuz she thought it would never happen. Either she had a brother and he would be heir, or she would have a sister and Daemon would be heir.

As soon as Corlys suggested it in the beginning..... I instantly thought "they CAN'T mean the baby they showed last episode at the tourney" OMG it was
she is supposed to be 12. allthough looking VERY young for her age.

To me he isn’t a threat yet or that much of a problem since he hasn’t really done much but and try and provoke the king with little actions. Viserys made a decision that now makes daemon a lot stronger tho so that’s on him

My favourite GOT reactions 🙏 never forget “Jon Baratheon”🤣
They already dropped hints..for the pure bloodline in episode, in my opinion. Took me many watches to catch it tho.
Rhaeynyra and her uncle Daemon appears to share a bond. It is obvious that Daemon cares so much for Rhaenyra.
Perfect timing! just finished it. Cant wait to hear your thoughts about this episode!

I feel regardless of his feelings, a certain image was painted during that scene and it’s easy to feel Daemon got punked a bit.
Couldn’t be more happy to hear that song for the intro. Braught me right back! If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

The scene in the sept was so visually beautiful.
nikki's habit of calling anyone under the age of 18 a literal baby is hilarious lmao XD
I knew when Laena came on screen that Nikki was going to be upset! Love how protective you are!
