It’s episodes like this that remind me I’m not just watching a medieval fantasy show, but Game of Thrones haha
@@SnailHatan The two shows are so far apart in quality it feels wrong to even compare them.
Daemon has that Tuco energy, he's chaotic, unpredictable, but dangerous. He's really starting to show why he's GRRM's favorite Targaryen.
Caraxes is tight tight tight
Daemon is much smarter then Tuco, he is closer to Lalo imo
I don't think Daemon tries to find the simplest word or thing that offends him, so that he has a excuse to hurt or kill someone, that what Tuco actually has.
@@zibik18 definitely more Lalo than Tuco
@@zibik18 Lalo is smarter than Daemon. Daemon is Hector.
The baby in Alicent's arms that is crying is her second child, Princess Helaena.
I find it hilarious that Daemon returned from the Narrow Sea after two years only to piss off Viserys within 24 hours
I think Otto acts in the interest of himself AND the crown. He's no littlefinger. He wants whats good for the realm, but also searches for opportunities to strengthen his house through his decisions as well. Maybe future episode will prove me wrong.
It has to be said, the book this is based on is written like a history book, meaning pretty much all of the personality of the characters, specifically Rhaenyra and Alicent are from the show writers, since the book doesn’t give much to go off of. Major props to the show writers for making these characters so fantastic
I mean with g rr martin there he can give them some ideas tho
@@SnailHatan saw an interview lately. He said that being 'involved' or named as producer is overstated. He has input but absolutely no say in what the writers decide to do with his input.
This episode clears up some rumours in the book! A Maester says she slept with Daemon when he returned from war but the court jester says Daemon took her to a brothel to teach her how to seduce Cristan Cole! It looks like they've gone for a middle ground between the two stories!
Yep so cool to confirm a Mushroom story to some extent. But Mushroom also said Criston turned her down (which I didn't believe) so that aspect of Mushroom's testimony, as well as the "lessons", were proven wrong. I really hope they keep punching for a middle ground where each source has an element of the truth to it, works really well.
@@samc9516 Book spoiler.
Harwin Strong. I hope Rhaenyra drinks that tea and they follow the book.
@@mat7506
We don't know that the Harwin thing is true either.
@@lordmelvin9310 ….
There are different points of view, I know, but for some of them there are details make you understand which stories are the real ones. There are too many references that suggest Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey are Strong. Plus, in the book they never talk about Cole and Rhaenyra having sex but about Rhaenyra seducing him and Cole rejecting her.
@@mat7506 Book spoilers below:
Spoiler wall......
SPOILERS
Book spoilers - I certainly think the boys are very "strong" and I also am certain the show will stay loyal on that point, I'd be very surprised if they changed that because although it's not 100% certain I agree there are too many things pointing to it being true. Especially as they've cast Ser Harwin - I'd share your doubts if he hadn't been cast.
Your worry that they'll instead choose Criston instead of Harwin is based off the fact you believe Criston and Rhaenyra never slept together and that the show added that in... But it's only Mushroom that claims Ser Criston rejected Rhaenyra. Eustace says that it was Criston that declared his love for Rhaenyra and proposed marriage, and Alicent was heard to say "who protects the princess from Ser Criston?".
Mushroom's Testimony isn't the whole truth I'm sure you agree - he also claimed Rhaenyra and Daemon spent a long time flying daily to an island to spend all day naked while practicing blowjobs.
For me I didn't feel like the show deviated from the books with Criston and Rhaenyra sleeping together, I saw it as confirmation of a strong suspicion. Reading between the lines I never doubted Rhaenyra and Criston were sleeping together. Their later relationship is described as so hostile and bitter there must have been something between them in my view. It's specifically Criston turning his back on Rhaenyra too - in one day the love he borne for her "turned to loathing and disdain" and he became "the most bitter of her foes". To me this sounds like a man spurned, a heartbroken man. Her just proposing sex and him turning her down doesn't lead to the awful terms they are on later in my opinion - it's only a messy break up I think can lead to how strongly Criston hates Rhaenyra.
Love these character building episodes. Some of my favourite GoT were just Arya and the Hound on the road. My favourite duo in that show and I’ll never forget them, and it was because of the character building.
I've found Daemon and Rhaenyra's brothel scene very interesting. As the showrunner said in an interview, Daemon hasn't returned to make amends with Viserys, but with ulterior motives and Rhaenyra is probably the person he cares about the most, so much so that the two of them have a connection which was addressed in the first two episodes. He likes her, but will use her to get what he wants: the Iron Throne. Then they start making out and when he realizes that Rhaenyra liked that, he stops being "in control", maybe he wasn’t expecting that? Ultimately Daemon's "impotence"/giving up, is a reflection of the fact that deep down he knows what he's doing is not right. That's why he left like that and leaving Rhaenyra with burning desire. When questioned by Viserys, he doesn't even deny it, he wanted the rumors, gosh he’s such a complex character.
After seeing Daemon and Viserys were getting along again I actually thought this was gonna be lighter, but this is the HEAVIEST episode of the series yet. The director of the episode Clare Kilner said that it was important when she was filming the sex scenes to shoot them from the right point of view. She said she wanted them to be from the woman's point of view where people were enjoying themselves and freeing themselves from the constraints of the world they'd been living in.
This episode was shockingly, this show keeps getting better and better.
It definitely felt like the sex scenes weren't 'for' the audience, just people enjoying themselves and not paying attention to Rhaenyra/the camera
Both High Valyrian and Dothraki are fully formed languages, but George RR Martin only came up with a few short phrases in the books. The full language was built by David Peterson for the original show and they each have complete grammar rules and a decent vocabulary. The actors are given their lines in English, Valyrian, and a recording so they can get the pronunciation and cadence correct.
You can even learn High Valyrian on Duolingo.
Nice to see you watching a great reactor like Brandon, Craig. Only seen you in the Duo's reactions before.
I’ve been watching Brandon’s reactions from very early on. And I’m no longer associated with that other channel.
@@CraigKostelecky Well nice to spot you in the comments once again.
The Valyrian language (and Dothraki in Game of Thrones) are real conlangs invented by linguist David Peterson specially for the shows. Unlike Tolkien, George RR Martin is no linguist so he came up with only a few words for his books and an idea of how the languages sound, and that's the basis Peterson used to develop the languages from there. They're not that fleshed out - the grammar systems and pronunciation rules are all in place but the vocabulary is fairly limited.
If side shows like this keep getting made it'll hopefully be extensively expanded.
I am glad you got it in the end Brandon. Yes, I am pretty sure the tea is GoTs version of a "morning after pill". Basically it is Viserys letting his Daughter know, that he is aware she is no virgin anymore.
It's moon tea, yeah. It causes miscarriage.
It's also strategic. If she drinks it; she is admitting to it. But she hasn't confirmed nor denied any charges. But he knows his brother.
If she drinks it her father and her her friend will think she lied and slept with daemon and not christon probably
@@leimerthe yeah pretty much
I love how even tho Viserys is strict with Rhaenyra, he is always on her side. They fight and quarrel but he always defends her. His actor is really fantastic and I’ll be sad when he dies lol
Dang spoilers. Haha jk
Brandon looking like he's about to spit some sick rhymes with that new mic🔥🔥🔥
Everybody from the 313...
It made me happy to finally see the Blackwood and Bracken suitors acting out their families’ ancient feud in a HBO adaptation. Hope we get more of that and little Blackwood is back to kick more ass
Was never a huge fan of Matt Smith, didn't like him as the Dr, or on the Crown, but goddamn he has SOLD me on his Daemon. Absolutely owning every scene he's in.
@@SnailHatan i think that was def intentional lmao, he was on the back of a dragon
"Lead to something good with her and criston "
What happened with criston cole was anything but good my friend, he can literally get his head cut for it for two reasons
1: he fu#ked the princess
2: he's a royal guard , he can't be in a romantic relationship
Bring back the old mic. Long live the OG mic! That was your signature mic. RIP OG mic.
Man whenever a Blackwood is around and a Bracken is around you already know it's on sight. Also yah just know wherever lord Daemon is at chaos is not far behind 💯😂
David Peterson came up with the language of Valyrian we hear in the show and the written version too, like the map and the dagger.
Yeah, the only Valyrian GRRM came up with was the names and the phrases “Valar morghulis” and “valar dohaeris”. Peterson was hired by the GoT production team to turn those into a usable language for the show (much as they used him to flesh out Dothraki) and now GRRM consults with him when writing Dothraki and Valyrian dialogue in the books.
@@LeChaunce And dracarys and valonqar and maybe maegi according to the wiki. Impressive to build a language based off of nothing but that.
@@samc9516 Ah, yes -- I'd forgotten those two words (and possibly three! 😀)
He's a pretty funny guy -- I watch his weekly podcast where he and his girlfriend/colleague develop languages for a game he's writing about anthropomorphic animals. It's really cool to watch the process.
New mic sounds great! One very minor suggestion - you did have some small plosives, so a cover for the mic might help. Not distracting at all...especially with your excellent mic technique...but since you asked... 😉
Daemon and rhaenyra relationship been hinted at since the first episode tbh even this episode the first scene is her touching the necklace daemon gave her 4 years ago when’s she’s supposed to be looking for a husband so subtle hint there who she really wants lol. Daemon stopped because he didn’t want to use her while trying to piss his brother off so him asking for her hand in marriage was legit. They actually do love each other and her going to Cole was basically just her using him for sex. Glad they cleared up some stuff from the books.
Yes. This is exactly how I read their relationship. The tension was there from the moment he gave R the necklace. Everyone shipping R and Cristin but she was clearly thinking of Daemon the whole time haha
I think it's a good episode showing Daemon's weaker side. Ep 3 showed his bad*ss side. This is his vulnerable side. We can't expect Daemon to be bad*ss every episode. Like he's walking around and hitting people. He has layers to him. He's a human being. He has different sides of emotions.
This was Daemon's simp episode. He's a simp to his niece and he went limp to her as well. I think it's ok to show this side because Matt Smith has said Daemon is a fragile creature. There's this weird sensitivity about him and Matt wants to explore this. Not just show a bad boy who is also a great warrior. Not some dumb brute. If all it showed was Daemon being a bad*ss, then he's basically one-dimensional. He's not Darth Maul in TPM.
If you ever seen Mad Men, Jon Hamm's character Don Draper/Dick Whitman was really a facade. He was really a fraud to Don Draper persona like Homelander being this great hero for the people. Dick wasn't this super handsome, confident, suave guy. He had a dark past and he never could find his inner peace until the very end. If you saw Return Of The Jedi, you saw Darth Vader still caring about his son. Daemon needed an episode like this to show he's not just a great warrior.
The Hound is physically bigger than Daemon but he still showed a sensitive side to him. The more I rewatch this, the more I find this brilliant. We finally see Viserys showing his power and fearlessness. If Daemon wasn't hungover and if this was a different person like a non-relative, Daemon would fight back. This time, he doesn't. The tables are reversed. It's Viserys showing his might and why he's the king while Daemon is on the ground completely helpless.
Viserys, Daemon, and Rhaenyra all showed different sides to them here. Viserys showed more power. Daemon showed more weakness. Rhaenyra showed more of a wild side. Even saw growth from Alicent and Criston. These aren't cardboard cutout characters. They're well-written. All made mistakes. All this while Daemon still got Otto fired by finally playing the same game he played on him in Ep 1 by proving third-party witnesses aren't always reliable.
This episode is like early GOT S1-S3 when games were being played from behind the scenes.
NGL, it feels weird seeing the new microphone. Hope the arm doesn't get tired.
It’s called moon tea. It was brought a few time on GOT.
Daemon came into the throne room fresh out the barber shop 😂. Loved the episode. Also, why did the intro of you holding the new mic reminded me of the scene in Talladega Nights where Ricky Bobby was like “I don’t know what to do with my hands” 😂 definitely a nice mic my guy 👊
Also, despite Daemon being my favorite, I’m really enjoying Alicent’s story arc. I’m very excited to see how she develops throughout the episodes.
Yeah keep an eye out for that Blackwood kid at the start. It's implied that he's the great great grandfather of the Hound and the Mountain.....
Is it? Where in the books is that? I must have missed it.
In Damon's position, it would be easier to kill his wife and then come to Viserys with a marriage proposal. And not after he dragged her into the city and left her on the street without guards, where she could easily be killed or raped. Viserys is not the best king, but far from the worst of the Targaryens. He's not a manipulative genius like Otto, but he's not an idiot either. He has reasons to keep his brother away from the throne and away from his daughter.
Brandon! An XLR with a…SM 58? I could be wrong. Great reaction as always! My favorite part of this episode was Otto losing his pin, I wonder the implications!
You're correct! The SM 58 is hooked up to the Zoom H5
"The head thing" haha, a hat?
😂
Loved your face to the end of the episode. Great reaction
Daemon would b proud of this new mic Brandon 💝💝💝
I just wanna see how jacked your mic arm is verse the non-mic arm 🤣. Loving the new mic though. Voice sounding very crisp, dude!
Just remember, “The Throne cuts anyone who isn’t worthy to sit upon it.”
Oh look, Rhaenyra met Breakbones in a back alley. I wonder if that’ll go anywhere 😉
Oh, and in the book the kid is named “bloody Ben” and plays a bigger roll later on in the story. Apparently he’s pretty capable when it comes to killing people.
On another video I said it was "Bloody Ben" because I thought it was him, but I think it is actually Samwell Blackwood, Ben's dad.
@@danielleeskelton is Samwell alive in the show? I’m not too familiar with the lore of this timeline.
@@Spaghatee I think he should still be alive. They might change some things from the books, so I guess we will just have to wait and see.
LOL the drink at the end was Moon Tea which is basically Plan B it's just to make sure she doesn't have a baby.
There wasn't meant to be any doubt about what it was. The ending was just meant to show you Viserys knew the truth even tho he defended her.
Daemon and Rhaenyra both genuinely relate and like each other
She's always playing with her necklace, i think it hinted that hes her match. Daemon was giving Rhaenyra some good advice and was teaching her many lesson including taking what she wants. Which she then does, Daemon was also trying to get back at Viserys too but never went all the way with Rhaenyra because he couldn't use her like that, even if he really wants her. Daemon doesn't seem that interested in the throne but more like making a name for himself and getting his brothers love & support.
Rhaenyra definitely isn't gonna get with Cole but im glad she took charge and chose who she wanted as her first. I honestly think Allicent was too angry at Rhaenyra and maybe she has a thing for Daemon.
new mic is sounding great!
King: "You're already married!"
Daеmon: "Ok, Ok, I'll be a widower in the next episode. Be patient, bro!"
I’m surprised cause it’s actually very early for the Vale in comparison to the book
Great reaction. Did you catch the namedrop of the "White Worm" and where the spy actually came from? I'll try not to say too much but this episode makes clear Otto and the White Worm are working together and have been for a long time.
That microphone looks better - so I'm now subscribing! Could not do it before. Thanks from Sweden.
Yes, I too didn't trust the Maester at the end, it felt like some kind of poison from Otto, not plan B from the King.
It was an abortion tea which was common in those time for royal women to get rid of unwanted pregnancy.
I am concerned about your arm getting tired lol, but the new mic looks awesome! A legend for sure
Hi friend glad you're back 😊
Rip microphone, it was iconic
This episode may not have had any action but the political agendas and sexual tensions still made it interesting to me. Daemon Targaryen is the most complex character in House of The Dragon. He came in with a plan but then realized he really does love Rhaenyra and stopped himself because he knew what he was doing wasn’t right. Him asking to wed her had more to do with him actually wanting her then the crown. Daemon during the side show was giving advice to her about needing to drop her act and start caring what the common people think about her because they are important when she rules. He’s loved by the common people and realize that Rhaenyra needs their support to succeed, he wants to help the people yet at the same time he also wants to piss off his big brother. The scene at the end I believe her father sent the maester to Rhaenyra to give her a Game of Thrones version of Plan B morning after pill in that cup. 🤣
The Microphone quality looks bit better, but if it heavy , buy the accesoire of holding the mic , it will hold your mic like streamers , :) , it will be much better!
you are such a joy
I can't believe I'm back to being in love with the Game of Thrones universe
she aint lie.. she and Daemon never smashed lol
She did lie, in saying he never touched her.
High Valyrian was made by David Peterson for Game of Thrones. There are only a few words in the books
Are you uploading any more HOTD reactions?
To your question the answer is yes. Not GRRM but a linguist made an entire language for both High Valyrian and Dothraki for this serie(s). Duolingo has added High Valyrian as well is Klingon to their choices.
The way I see it, Daemon is used at using people to get what he wants. He did it with Mysaria for example, and despite their bond and Daemon's real love for Viserys, he's also used to hurting his brother (yknow, the good ol' siblings rivalry). But with Rhaenyra, it got different, because we've seen Daemon genuinely care for her, he was giving her gifts way before his legitimacy as heir was put into question, he was her confidant, they share a long-time bond, as seen with the Valyrian they speak only to each other. Rhaenyra barely talked about her fears of childbirth and being pregnant, only to Alicent (just now) and Daemon. So to sum it up: Daemon comes back from a 3 years war, and 4 years exile from Court, where his brother basically ignored him and let him lose the war for years, because Daemon went to war without Viserys being ok with it (so we can say that Daemon is rightfully as pissed as Corlys is, the man doesn't even waste time coming back to Viserys' court lol). He chose not to defy Viserys as a king, the moment he bent the knee and offered his crown to Viserys (so, politically, he didn't ruin Viserys' image as a ruler, nor did he put into question Rhaenyra's claim as the heir, even tho Daemon himself entered with a crown on his head and a big victory to show off). So according to the showrunners and all, Daemon's angle with Rhaenyra is to attack Viserys as a man, as his brother and as a father to Rhaenyra. As these same showrunners say, Daemon abused Rhaenyra's trust for some kind of scheme (against his brother, not Rhaenyra or the King), but couldn't go through with it because he knew that what he was doing was "not right" and he left. Maybe Rhaenyra was meant to be... collateral damage to his plan to undermine Viserys, and he couldn't go through with it because of his (Daemon's) affection for Rhaenyra. It puts them at the same level at the end of the day: Daemon realizes he's not able to use Rhaenyra for his schemes- and maybe later on, we'll explore why. Does he have real feelings for her? Was he surprised of how receptive she was? Did he think it'd put his whole family in too big of a danger? I guess we'll see later if it's explored more or how Daemon and Rhaenyra's relationship will shift (idk if you noticed, but after her night with Criston Cole, Rhaenyra ditched the neckless Daemon had offered her on ep1 and that she had worn for years, kinda "yearning" for Daemon while he was at war).
I feel, in retrospect, that Daemon's move to ask for Rhaenyra's hand was legitimate, a real desire to make their family stronger, and not to walk closer towards the Throne and ultimate power (to say it bluntly: had Viserys accepted Daemon's proposal for Rhaenyra's hand, I feel like Daemon would have stood by Rhaenyra rather than skeemed to take the Throne, since he's never done that with Viserys, despite thinking he's weak and a bad King). I feel like he saw that Rhaenyra either needed or wanted her family closer around her to assert her claim on the Throne (that would be a callback to what Viserys said to her last episode), and Daemon saw this as a real opportunity to have unity among the family: he says so himself "together, we'll restore House Targaryen to its ancestral glory" or something like that. I feel like it makes sense with the character himself, how ultimately, he's always chosen to make his family stronger, despite his skeeming. Y'know, the whole "the blood of the dragon runs thick". And tbh, at the end even tho he doesn't get Rhaenyra's hand, Daemon does succeed: Viserys chooses to protect Rhaenyra's reputation with the "plan B" tea, and to put the rumors to rest, by erasing the possible threat that is Otto and his web of spies. Despite the ambiguity of what he did with Rhaenyra, Daemon does present himself as Rhaenyra's champion in his last scene: he doesn't deny having taken her virginity, yes, but he does say basically "and what of it?", claiming that he and Viserys took women all over the streets of King's Landing when they were her age and all. He questions the system, for Rhaenyra's sake, which is something she can't do on her own. Idk, their relationship is super complex and that's why I love it, Rhaenyra on her own, is able to reach her father and push him to change some things, but she won't have that kind of influence on the realm and the system (as seen with the little play) and someone like Daemon supporting her, would undeniably help her strengthen her claim, and I feel like Daemon thought about that, about his niece's sake as much (maybe even more?)) as his own.
Funny. I was actually thinking about how long you had been using that mic a couple days ago. New one sounds fine. Just wondered why you don't go with a mic stand so you don't have to hold it.

I disagree that Rhaenyra and Criston hooking up was a good thing. Criston was conflicted. They even make a point of showing both of them stare at the White Cloak when she takes it off. He's thinking of his oath.
He even told her last episode that she gave him everything he has. She really did him dirty. Rhaenyra is a fantastic character but she's a pretty shitty person. She put Criston in a compromising position because she was horny. Even if the truth came out, the worst she'll face is disinheritance. She could easily still marry the second son of a moderately powerful House. Criston would be killed, his death only delayed by possible torture. His name in the White Book would be recorded in shame.
are you going to keep reacting?
Please watch STAR TREK. 🖖
Thank you, Brandon, for catching the connection between Otto and Maester Orwyle and being suspicious of the Moon Tea he brought Rhaenyra.
Everyone seems to just assume the drink was from the King's directive but if the plan is to put Aegon on the throne then a poisoned Moon Tea would be a clever way to do it... plausible deniability and the scandalous nature of the drink would make it very discreet.
The timing of it certainly takes on a Hail Mary vibe considering the people playing the Game of Thrones who want Alicent's male heir to succeed Viserys just lost their 'queen chess piece' in Otto Hightower.
