- I'm showing how you can either use a small screwdriver or one of the faucet aerator keys to remove the low flow filter within a MOEN faucet. Good Luck!

I've had my Stanley flat head screwdriver for over 30 years.
Purchased the Faucet Aerator Key here: www.amazon.com...

One suggestion: BEFORE starting to disassemble the faucet, it might be prudent to CLOSE the basin drain. This will prevent any small parts from unexpectedly disappearing down the drain.
YES! Things you don’t think about until you lose your ring. I’ll have to remember that! Thanks!!!
Thanks a million! You just saved me some $$. I have 3 Moen Adler bath faucets. One is 5 years old and the other two were just installed in June 2023, along with 3 new bath sinks. The 5-yr. old one has had very low water flow for some time. Followed your advice and voila - I now have great water flow. Another example of federal government mandates to suppliers and trying to control people. Thanks again!
Thanks for the comment! IKR, just let me use my water that way I want to use it. Like I'm over here leaving my water on full blast for days so no one else can get any. What a water bill that would be. Yes, everyone can conserve water but also have very good water pressure when they need it. Not too hard to understand. Appreciate that you watched the video!!! Best of luck to you!
Thank you for this tutorial! We have been living with horrible (trickling) water pressure in our bathroom sinks for years! Our house is not even 8 years old. Our tub and shower pressure are phenomenal so I knew it wasn't a pressure issue. It was a faucet issue. I carefully used a flathead screwdriver and followed all the steps and boom! It works and the pressure is almost too strong now. Im just happy its no more trickling with the faucets now. Lol
Thanks for the comment! It's great to know the video I put together is helping others in some way. Hope only the best for you and your family!
You are like me, determined even if it destroys the faucet👍
Thanks for the comment! Yes, sometimes it's "whatever it takes". Appreciate that you watched the video!
That's so much! I finally learned how to fix the spray!
You made it easy peasy!
Grew up in an old house and only ever had faucets you could just unscrew. Had no clue how to open it to clean it once the flow got bad. Thank you!
Thanks for the comment! Appreciate that you watched my video!!!
Thank you. Great tutorial. Just fixed my horrible trickling water faucet that was new at the time our bathrooms were remodeled and installed in 2020. Why didn't I research this earlier?? Took a while to find my Moen key.
Thanks for the comment! I'm very happy this worked for you. Life gets in the way and there are so many other things to worry about... a low flowing faucet or two usually isn't on the top of our list. Appreciate that you watched the video! Have a great day!!!
I just installed my faucet I was so disappointed by the pressure. I don’t have the key.
Thank you so much for the very informative video. I will be doing this tomorrow.
Cheers 🇨🇦
Thanks for the comment! Best of luck with the low flow removal!!!
How did it go?
Dear friend, you saved me a lot of waiting. Thank You very much! Greetings from Brazil.

Great video Lock ring pliers work well also
Thanks for the comment! I'll have to look into lock ring pliers. I don't think I have any at the moment. Appreciate that you watched the video!
Thank you, Sir... for your clear instructions on this Phillips-head aerator fix!
I have done it.
It has worked.
I can now hold my head high and pontificate when talking Handy-Andy lore with my nuclear engineer brother-in-law.
I now rule my own house!!
Thank you for the comment! Great to know this little hack worked for you. Also appreciate the structure and phrasing of your response. Seems we have a writer in our midst.
Great! But it’s a standard flat-head screwdriver.
@@youngtimer964 Yes, it’s a flat head screwdriver. I did miss-speak in the video. Thanks for the comment and I appreciate that you watched the video!
Thank you! Very helpful!

Thank you for the screwdriver idea. The plastic faucet wrench got worn down when I tried it. I'll see if I can get it to budge with the flat head.
Awesome! Best of luck to you. Thanks for the comment and I appreciate that you watched the video!
Great video! You helped me repair multiple faucets with your simple tricks. Thanks very much !

Thanks.Good video and worked like a charm!
Thanks for the comment! Happy it worked for you. Appreciate that you watched the video.
Thanks--jogged my memory to dig out an aerator key I'd stashed at the back of the vanity!
Thanks for the comment! Appreciate that you watched the video and that it helped recall a memory of your aerator key. Best of luck to you in the future!!!
Thank you! These low flow things are annoying and useless as it just takes three times as long to complete tasks which uses as much, if not more, water.
@@jans8255 Thanks for the comment! Appreciate that you watched my video!!!

So far I haven't found the video to help me. I have a Moen kitchen faucet without the pull down spray option. It is a one piece faucet with a threaded aerator. How do I remove the water restrictor from this type of kitchen faucet. Suggestions/help?
Do you have the model number of your Moen kitchen faucet? I could look it up if you do.
Preciate it! I just fixed mine thanks to your video 🫡
Nice to know! Thanks for the comment!!!
Thanks so much. Saved myself from replacing the whole faucet
Thanks for the comment! Appreciate that you watched the video and that it helped!!!
And the new one would still have the same problem. Excessive government regulation. ( low flow laws)
@@jhask64 Thanks for the comment! Gotta love the government, huh?
@@jhask64 yeah that low pressure was causing lengthy time crouching over the sink and back pain for my spouse. It’s excessively low pressure.
I believe idamaged my faucet its decorative under plate is bent, do i have to replace the whole faucet? Im trying to adapt it to wash my dog in my shoeer from the sink.. thank you so much
Thanks for the comment! This is a bit different than removing the low flow filter. It seems (and I'm only speculating because I have no idea how you're attempting to attach an adapter so you can use a water hose from your sink to your shower) you may have bent the faucet. My only advice, as a non-professional... meaning I'm not a plumber, is to attempt to bend the faucet back to it's original shape. If you can't do that, you'll probably have to purchase a new faucet. I understand this isn't very helpful, but I would need much more information about exactly what you're doing and what your faucet looks like to provide more advice (which would not be professional plumber advice). Best of luck to you! I hope you can get your faucet back in shape and get your hose installed!
Thanks for the video. Mine looks so calcified that I cannot see the holes for the key - plus I ordered the wrong one.
Thanks for the comment! Hopefully you were able to knock the calcification off and remove the aerator section. Appreciate that you watched the video!
I broke the blue O ring but replaced the aerator without it. Everything seems to work fine. Will I have problems down the road?
Probably not ideal over time. There are replacement o-rings out there for Moen faucets. Here's one: www.amazon.com/Moen-146789-Replacement-Part/dp/B0052TVN28/ref=sr_1_5?crid=3B9NP5L5HVKG7&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.IhNZZa1ARgeWCrz-4AATWA1PTI19C06zsjGw-0r1IZZgnee63_qB2q8h_ZIZd2ixIiBft7BBK0CVBsmQ2poz4HYtws4G_wv4TC_XN7dab-qEsZXyMOs94sXFONmOLWDftQey4__Csi6HwcPLYlqhmF21YH0VsN-LK7BNdd6X5a2mMaW3aJA7eDkcqUKl4y20ESeEolQZU3mVPtpW6m6MHsAoPQWcELUvZqpAzNhh5di-5mdvWNUhcKdW8Sttn8noRubNya6Tu-cEN3VZZj4qrFWQBshsUM9DINikKnCr_1E.2awcN147UyJ7UyyRzyaLIt2TxRDrWVQOTsbqOeijDHg&dib_tag=se&keywords=moen+146789+o+ring+kit&qid=1718739240&sprefix=moen+146789+o+ring+kit%2Caps%2C80&sr=8-5
Not sure which faucet you have but you should be able to find a replacement o ring for it.
Best of luck to you!!!
Thank you! Btw….Great video. You helped me out and saved me from having to call a plumber.
@@TomHager-rj3yi That's great to know! Thanks!!!
My kitchen faucet aerator has four indentations for the plastic aerator key. Does one of the keys you show have four 'teeth' on the key?
The MOEN faucet keys have 6 teeth on them. My guess is you probably have a different brand of faucet. Thanks for watching the video! Much appreciated!!!
Thanks for posting! Very helpful! I was able to clean my Moen faucet.
I have a question. I’m trying to use a Faucet Adapter Kit from the sink to a hose. Got it from Amazon but it doesn’t work. I removed the aerator with a key. Do you know if I have to also remove that dark gray ring from the the inside of the faucet (and how would I do so)?
Thank you for the comment! Appreciate the response. I've never installed a Faucet Adapter Kit to connect a sink faucet to a garden hose. Here's a video of someone from UA-cam doing just such a thing. ua-cam.com/video/aeqXwZ-eDP0/v-deo.html
If yours is similar, I would initially attempt to unscrew the dark grey ring with your hands counter clockwise. If that doesn't work, and honestly I'm not sure what your sink faucet looks like, You'll have to resort to some type of tool like a small pipe wrench. Hopefully you won't need to do that.
Looks like they purchased their Faucet Adapter Kit from Amazon too: www.amazon.com/Neoperl-15-3940-Diameter-Connect/dp/B01EZ6KM84/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?crid=28P9ATJBF5K6B&keywords=neoperl+15+3940+5&qid=1555806979&s=gateway&sprefix=neoperl+15+3940%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-1-fkmrnull
Please let me know if you are able to complete your connection.
It’s no worries though but thanks! Maybe I’ll try the dangling from my house method but would have to buy a 100 ft hose incase.
@@jennifer.santos. Best of luck Jennifer!
I have a moen faucet that has number on it of a112.18.1m Is this the number for the key , example 18.1m , cause my 18.5 key doesn’t fit , am i wrong ?
Thanks for the comment! That number matches a MOEN Aerator Kit listed here: www.walmart.com/ip/Moen-Aerator-Kit-in-Chrome/189416579
So it's not the actual MOEN Faucet product or serial number.
I don't believe an aerator key is meant to be used on the aerator kit.
Appreciate that you watched the video!
@@GrayTrend ok so then im assuming the entire end piece turns off , tried it multiple times but doesn’t move , ill try spraying something in it to see if it can break free , thanks

thank you so much like seriously your like me impatient waiting on thoes keys lol kidding ❤
Thanks for the comment! Appreciate that you watched the video and it helped.
I agree this was very helpful, as I await my key. Think I’ll try the screwdriver while I wait. Can I damage it by using a screwdriver?
Thank you for the comment! There’s always a possibility you can cause damage. It’s ultimately up to you to take that risk. Best of luck as I only hope the best for you!
So, how did it go?
@@JandorGr Great question! Hope it goes well for whomever attempts the flat head screwdriver. Worked well for me.
@@JandorGr screwdriver method worked fine for me.
Nah
Are you not replacing the screen with a new screen?
Thanks for the comment! No I didn't replace the screen. You can if you'd like, it's up to you. Best of luck to you!!!
Does anyone know if you can remove the outer plastic piece as well? I want to put in an entirely different aerator for that sink. Is it even possible?
Does your package contain a plastic key with four 'teeth'?
My kitchen faucet aerator has four indentations to accept a key with four such 'teeth'.
Thanks for the comment! No, the 5 aerator keys that came with the package I received from Amazon all have 8 teeth. Thanks for watching the video!!!
Awesome

Dankeschön to you. Thank you for the comment. Appreciate you watching the video!
That’s a flathead screwdriver
Thanks for the comment! I know, I screwed that up. I think that's my old (probably 25 years old) Stanley flat head screw driver. still works like a charm!
I like the regulator on mine. Don’t like the pressure to high…
Thanks for the comment! Yes, this isn't for everyone. Appreciate that you watched the video!
Can't hear--the volumn doesn't come over in video
Thanks for the comment! Sorry about the audio. I’ve updated all of my audio gear since this video in an attempt to negate the audio issues I had in the past. Appreciate you watching the video!
I’m going in the other direction, decreasing the flow rate to consume less water.
Thanks for the comment! Good on you! We don't use much water ourselves. I usually do my quick in and out submarine showers and don't leave the water on while I'm brushing my teeth. Appreciate that you watched the video!
Mine is so stuck, don’t think it will ever come out.
Thanks for the comment! You might need to attempt to remove calcium build up on your faucet. You could use some CLR like this: ua-cam.com/video/vL0Tchf5gUo/v-deo.html
Hopefully this works for you!
Nice video, but do you live alone and did not have someone to hold the camera while doing this??????????????????????
Hey, thanks for the comment! Ha! This was early on before I purchase a tripod. I would enlist my wife to help but she's not interested in some of the things I do. She says I do a lot of "tinkering" around the house. If I put together the same video now, I'd use my tripods and get in close with no moving around. Again, thanks for watching the video. I hope it helped in some way. I'm trying to get better as I continue to make these types of videos.
Water key?!? What a joke. Why did I choose Moen?!
Because you're a millionaire! It is a popular brand. Not sure why they designed their faucets to have to (or maybe not have to in my case of using a flat head screw driver) use Faucet Aerator Keys. Most new faucet brands use faucet aerator keys now (Delta, American Standard, Moen, Kohler, Pfister, Danze, California Faucets, etc.). I guess this added a new financial stream to the faucet market (Aerator Keys!!!). Thanks for watching the video!
Have someone video you working with both hands instead of working one handed. Goes better.
Yes, I understand. This is one of my earliest videos after starting my channel and I didn't have a lot of the additional video equipment I have now. I guess I should redo this video and get some better quality shots on tape. Most people have appreciated finding this information on UA-cam and there have been a few "water conservation types" that frown on this video. I do appreciate your feedback and thank you for watching the video!!!
First that is not a Phillips screwdriver but pretty good video
Yes, it's a flat head screwdriver. I'm just so used to saying Phillips head. Appreciate that you watched the video!!!
Next time wrap duct tape around your screwdriver tip so you don’t accidentally scratch the chrome 💯
Thanks for the comment! That's a great idea! Something I'll need to remember next time. Thanks!
can't hear it -
I'll turn up my volume.
Wrong,Wrong Wrong, just remove the little black “O” ring and use all parts
Thanks for the comment! I've been wrong before. I'm curious about the black "O" ring. My faucets didn't have a black "O" ring. The "O" rings on my faucets were all blue.
@@GrayTrend I think he means the black o ring inside the pink piece that was inside the plastic filter.
@@OOrtiz87 Thanks for the comment! IDK, I just know what I did worked for me. Appreciate that you watched the video!
