    I was about to call a plumber. I just installed another moen model faucet, low pressure both sides, this was the exact issue. You saved me a few hundred bucks, my friend.

    I tried to do it two times but with no luck and I just purchased it at Lowes. I called the company and they said it would take 5 to 7 days to get new cartilage shipped to me. I went to Lowes and brought another for $20. I tried that one with no luck. But when you went to clean out the inside I did the same and a small piece of black plastic came out like in your video. I then reinserted it and now it works! Thank you! I was about to go back and buy a new one but not a Moen because I spent about an hour of my time. And I didn't want to go through it again.

    thanks for this. installed a new one and the under-sink valves hadn't been touched in over 20 years and must have dislodged a bunch of gunk right into it cause i had no cold water to speak of.

  • @robi6317

    see now i wouldve liked to see the rest of the problem and you install the new piece too.
    cuz if im in the same boat and then do the first part, and i get the same second problem, im not confident enough that i can replace that piece without it leaking, and im gonna want a pro to do it just to avoid future problems.
    but if you had SHOWED ME how you did it, i could mimic it.
    i loved "hey ive got nothing better to do" LOL

    Had the same problem, found this video. Followed it step by step, and had the exact same black rubbery debris that you found. Clearly an issue with this Moen faucet, you are literally a life saver. I was about to uninstall the entire thing and return it, leaving my kitchen with no faucet since I threw away the old crusty one I removed. Thank you for posting this!!

    Usually you can do that without taking the faucet apart:
    - Turn off the hot water shut-off under the sink.
    - Disconnect the supply hose from the hot water shut-off valve and route it into a bucket.
    - Turn on the hot and cold water. This will back flush the hot side and the crap ends up in the bucket. If you block the output of the water, finger or saran wrap under head threads, it will pressurize the reverse flow of the hot water line. Let it run a minute or so after the crap comes out to get all of it.

  • @Pw6872
    @Pw6872 Рік тому

    If you ever need to replace these type shut-offs, switch to a 1/4 turn ball valve shut-off. Never leak, easy to turn.

  • @jaraly
    @jaraly Рік тому +3

    This was super-helpful to me. The cartridge itself and the underlying parts were all clogged with lime deposits. I took everything apart and flushed with vinegar, and soaked the cartridge in vinegar before taking it apart to ensure that it was clean. Faucet was only trickling on both hot and cold, and now works like new.

    OMG! I have the exact same moen model. I think my low pressure is due to the faucet head. I wish you could do a quick video of disassembling it. I'm so afraid I'll screw it up and break something. Thank you for doing this video.

    At about the 50s mark, a comment is made about those flimsy shutoff valves not working. One way to make sure these valves last a lifetime is to exercise them every 6mos. or so. Just had this problem about the Moen shutoff valve on my kitchen faucet just failing to the shut off side, no water coming out whatsoever. I have lived in this residence since new, 27 years ago, and had counters put in about 10 years ago with a new Moen kitchen faucet, and have been regularly hiking around to all the sinks and exercising those valves and bingo, working like a charm as I repair this faucet. Thanks tremendously for calling out the specific size of the allen wrench needed, as I could see inside the faucet control arm set screw hole but could not tell that there was even an allen screw there, until I tried the 7/64" size that had the right fit and feel, which surprised me as I had tried probably everything from 1/8" and up until I watched the video.

  • @kevinsaunby982

    When you turn the shutoffs back on never fully open them - open fully then back off quarter turn - the next time you need to turn them off you’ll have wriggle room in their turning rather than trying to turn them in one direction from fully open. They will be done much easier to turn that way

Took off my handle, and the hot water side looked just like yours blocked with a big chunk of rubber. thank you

    This is great!!! I’m totally trying this! I just had the hot water tank replaced and when they turned the water back on, the kitchen hot was much slower than before-all the other faucets were fine. The plumber flushed the lines in the kitchen but I still have the prob. There was a lot of galvanized gunk that had come out so I think that’s what’s on the mixer thingy u showed. Hopefully this will be the fix! (Fyi wasn’t my usual plumber who did the install-hot water tank just stopped so it was an emergency plumber-wouldn’t recommend)
