I think most of the functionality that I would want from an on-the-go notetaking device / PDA is present as-is, and is great for the price. Still the Value King IMHO. The Kindle Scribe for example is still $55 more expensive for the cheapest SKU, and has less features (as of now, we'll see how future updates go from Amazon). Not having to worry about dropping it in a puddle or being harmed by being rained on is a nice bonus. I'd definitely like to see the software bugs ironed out of course, but even as-is, I think it's a fine device. Thank you, as always, for your deep-dive reviews!
Love the calendar. That’s why I keep going back to Mibiscribe. It seems like boox could make there’s just as functional but choose to use update date rather than creation date rendering it pretty pointless.
I like the wave very much! Exept one thing, in the note app I miss the button to switch between apps. Wich is very annoying for when I'm reading a book and want to take a note to return to the book and vice versa.... I have to close and open the note app constantly.
Mine just arrived today, and one of the first things I noticed is that the front light is not crazy bright. Not that I can compare 1 to 1 with your exposure, but it doesn’t seem particularly intense to me in normal conditions. I wonder if that was changed in firmware, or if it’s a difference in hardware between our units.
First and off topic: Your in depth rewies are awesome ! THANKS ❤ To the topic I have to say, that for me personally the waterproof functionality is the absolute selling point of this device. In my personal opinion every e-ink notepad, that is marked as portable should provide this. All in all: With the actual EU price tag at roundabout 260€ including the cover, I am heavily considering to by this device - even it has the mentioned "childhood diseases". 👍👍👍
Vojislav; Thanks for the great review. I really wanted to get a Wave, but the software issues are a nogo. So here are my questions: If you were going to buy a 7.8" size enotebook that was also a good e-reader today, what would be your top choice? And what would be choice #2? Have a great Saturday. Thanks, K
I have found some serious bugs; this thing kinda stinks. One tip, though, it does have an animation filter for Kindle page turns, just like the Onyx devices. Long press on the app to get to the optimization settings.
I'm disappointed. I would have been happy with a 7.8" version of the Origin, as I find that size more comfortable for notes. I don't mind the bulkiness that goes along with that. I don't plan on taking notes on a jet ski, but I guess I don't mind the waterproofing, in case I spill my wine on it. The fact that it's measurably worse in some regards (thanks to your rigorous testing 😊) is a bummer, though. Even if it isn't improved, I'd expect it to be at least as good as the Origin. I actually traded my Origin in on a Wave, and now I'm regretting it.
A couple of thoughts. I think the alarm exists to serve the calendar. Because the calendar is set up for notifications. Would be interesting to test that hypothesis. Also yes, it's a bit clunky but it seems pretty sturdy and it's waterproof and frankly if it had a camera it would be an absolutely perfect device for making notations and documenting in field conditions. And now that it has Bluetooth, even if it doesn't have a camera, It should be easy to take pictures with my phone and drop them into my notes.
Thanks for the review. Between the Wave and the Origin, which would you suggest? The size difference is neither here nor there for me. Both sizes work for my use cases.
Thanks for an excellent review as always! One question - can you export highlights and annotations from epubs and pdfs? I would like a device that creates a digest based on my notes and highlights so I can get my customized overview of the book/document.
Hey Voya, do you agree they are including b&w in the naming of the wave because they are using the 7.8 size display that gallery 3 devices are launching in, and its a nod to them launching a Mobiscribe Wave Color with Gallery 3?
@My Deep Guide Hello! Can you tell me which 7.8 eNotebook with Android system is the best according to you? What are the choices? Nova Air 2 and what else?
Well, you got Nova Air 1 (if writing is your priority), Nova Air 2 (if reading is your priority), Nova Air C (if color is your priority). You also have the Supernote A6X, which is a phenomenal device, but for certain needs, as it is more expensive than the Nova Air, doesn't have a frontlight, and isn't a Google Play capable device. It's a different approach entirely than the Boox devices, but a seriously good one.
@@MyDeepGuide Thank you for the response at first! Is Nova 1 better for writing because of protective film but Nova 2 is better for reading because without that film screen looks better? Does the supernote have text editor? Because I'm typing on bt keyboard using ereader as a mini desktop :)
I was going to comment its absence. (I didn't see it as I watched the video) It's a nice feature in the videos of this channel and I kind of miss it this time around.
thanks for this review, i have my card in hand for this but now i believe i will go for kobo libra color. although i really love a big screen 7.8" is defiNitely better than 7"

I already have mine and really enjoy it. :)
Wave OS was just updated today. Very happy.
Does it have Google Play store?
Yes it does
Excellent review.
Great review Voja!
Thank you!
Thank you so much, this is exactly what i need to know about Mobiscribe Wave!
Glad to hear that :)
@@MyDeepGuideFlush screen ot Sunken screen on this device?

I use my tablet in the field, with grease, sun, rain, sweat, etc. Unfortunately, right now, rain is my biggest fear. This would definitely solve that.

Well, I think that it depends on your priorities. If writing is a priority, then Supernote A6, if reading is a priority, then Boox Nova Air 2.
Updates/improvements are ongoing, FYI

I think every tablet should be waterproof at least a little bit for water drops when its rainy

It's hard to predict the cat appearances. Perhaps you could issue a schedule of anticipated appearances.
I'll forward the request to them and hopefully they'll send me their schedules.
Is there a way to hide the .sdr files that appear on the Wave without getting a file management third pary app?
Hey Voya, do you agree they are including b&w in the naming of the wave because they are using the 7.8 size display that gallery 3 devices are launching in, and its a nod to them launching a Mobiscribe Wave Color with Gallery 3?
Well yes, but it's not a secret. The Wave Color with Kaleido is coming out in April and then a Gallery 3 version on summer.
Any update when the kaleidoscope 3 or gallery 3 edition is coming out? Summer has come and gone.
Is it durable? I have an onyx boox device and I would be far too afraid to carry it in my bag, even with a case.
How would the writing experience be on this device with a Bluetooth keyboard?
Does anyone know if the updated WaveOS have Google Play store?
Yes, the most recent update includes play store.

Thumbs-up for Lucy Blue.
Paws up! :)
How does chrome (or any other browser) work on this device?
What type of screen is this? Is it not an e-ink Carta 1200?
I think the timestamps have an extra level (1/100 of a second) that make them not work.
I was going to comment its absence. (I didn't see it as I watched the video) It's a nice feature in the videos of this channel and I kind of miss it this time around.
Thank you for the heads up! It's fixed now and should work as expected :)
1:07:09 What about writing experience under water? Ok, I am kidding.
I was about to test it, but I'm 99% sure that the pen isn't waterproof, so I didn't want to kill it ;)
which one is better for you then: supernote a6x or mobiscribe origin? thanksss
A6X, but it is a lot more expensive.
thanks for this review, i have my card in hand for this but now i believe i will go for kobo libra color. although i really love a big screen 7.8" is defiNitely better than 7"
Sad. I had high hopes for this one but there is simply no excuse to ship devices with broken software.
