Wave Color 3 (sometimes also called Wave Kaleido 3, it's confusing, I know) is the latest device from Mobiscribe. It is basically the same device as the Wave B&W and Wave Color that came before it in 2023, but the Color 3 (or Kaleido 3), but this time it is using a Kaleido 3 screen (I wonder if the name may be somehow related to that fact?).
I've had now some time to spend with the device, and I ran it through the usual slew of tests in order to bring you the in-depth review. So, grab a cup of your favourite beverage, and relax :)
Thank you for watching and if you liked the video, like and subscribe :)

It's so interesting that everyone says you need to use the front light on Kaleido 3 screens. I am perfectly content not using the light at all unless I am trying to read at night in a dark room. 95% of the time I find it perfectly acceptable without any front light.
Does shining a lamp at it not work?
It totally does work. Depending on where it's situated it may cause some glare. But I have been reading in my chair at night with the table lamp on and it is fine.
@@jenniferdubay3769 Good to know. I prefer to still have some light while reading. I'm just looking for a good school taker and organizer. In a class there was a guy with an iPad and he had MS Teams and OneNote on there, took a picture scan of every sheet, turned it into a PDF and wrote on it. It worked brilliantly. The only difference is I want an e-Ink.
This is perfect! Was an instant purchase until I saw it didn’t ship to Spain! Wtfff!
Many Americans are convinced that no other countries exist, it's a f uc king miracle they ever made it to the moon.
Nor to France.
They answered mme "We do ship to France, please change the store location to France first and then you would be able to place the order. (at the top right corner)". However, after trying it again, it still didn't allow me to have it shipped to France. Waiting for further instructions. Try it fo Spain.
I would love to see how this compares to the Kobo Libra Colour. With the cover and stylus they end up being within $10 of one another with pretty similar specs.
Well, not really, as the Libra Color will be locked to Kobo only, and the stylus is the active stylus, meaning, no Wacom layer. This is always a far, far inferior experience, as far as writing experience goes.
@@MyDeepGuide Fair point. I think the focus of the Kobo would be as a reader first and note taking device second. The Mobiscribe would be the other way around. I already have a Supernote A5X that I love for writing, but I am in the market for a portable, waterproof, color e-ink device for reading books, graphic novels, manga, comics, and children's books. I may occasionally annotate my books, but if I want to do extensive annotation or notetaking that's when I'll reach for the Supernote. I'm leaning towards the Kobo as a replacement for my Kindle Paperwhite. The hardware for the Mobiscribe seems great, but the software experience seems somewhat less polished.
@MyDeepGuide From a typical end user's perspective, they would feel like very similar specs, so comparing the 2 would be a very worthwhile exercise.
I am a happy owner of the Origin. After viewing your video I am still convinced that Mobiscribe is probably a small company that struggle to keep the pace competing with more aggressive and perhaps hyped devices. We probably cannot pretend from them an affordable price together with frequent feature improvements or HW upgrades. Since I am using this type of devices mostly for note taking to me still looks very interesting.
The issues the Wave has have nothing to do with the company size. System instability, PDF Reader app and Notebook app issues have been present for 2 years or more now across different devices, are platform related, not device related, and have not been addressed properly. Even if it was a single person responsible for the software side of things, there has been more than enough time to address at least some of these issues, or even all of them.
@@MyDeepGuide I fully understand your point, however not sure how much they are in control of the platform. I know that sounds weird but in my professional life I saw situations when even big companies with a strong technical design team were stuck in improvements due to lack of control in some of the outsourced subsystems. Please don't get me wrong, I think your concerns are fully legit but for my personal needs, as long as the issues are not worst compared to the Origin this device looks appealing.
Great in depth review as always. I just received mine from the Mobiscribe Mother Day sale. It was about $301 with shipping. I don’t enjoy the Kindle app reading experience on the Wave Color 3.Slow app responses, excessive ghosting and color writing is uneven. May go back to the Scribe.
The yellow light is not comforting to me.
