As a Product Manager I'd love to have users like you that tell me what is missing and even (this is crazy!) provide exact instructions how to implement that. Well done!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
may be I misunderstood, but if you are the product manager for the type folio, here are some functions I miss: 1.) being able to scroll/page down/up the pdfs by using the arrows of the type folio 2.) Being able to put text into pdfs 2.1.) the software could recognise if an area I tap in a pdf is a box, and being able to put text into a box while there is space inside the box by using the given font size. 3.) more default font size choice
Wonderful review. As with the tablet, the keyboard looks beautifully designed and manufactured. The cost to me is no worse than anything else. We are being forced to adjust to higher prices for everything we buy and do. So, the question is do you need this device for typing? Each of us has to answer that question for ourself. While I wait for RM to work out their availability issues I have think about that. It certainly expands the uses for the RM2. Right now I use it to make some notes as I would with pad and pen and then store and organize the ones I need to keep. I suppose if you plan to use the device for serious writing then a keyboard makes good sense. Of course, loving tech gadgets as I do, I will probably find a way to rationalize buying one. It is an attractive product.
I'm not whether to give a thumbs up or down on this video. It was a great review of the device, very thorough as usual. Unfortunately, you've now convinced me that I need to somehow find the money (and in CAD, too) to buy one because this looks really nice 🤣
24:32 Agree with the orientation limitation. It would be nice to have a portrait mode. However, a reliable rotation plate would add more thickness. I think this is a hard trade off. I hope reMarkable have better software updates to make typing better. I can understand the concept of simplicity to have a single text block in the page. However, more font sizes and smaller margins to allow more text per page will be helpful.
I spoke to soon with my comment! 😂 I'm glad you mentioned what we pay in Canada! If I go to the US site and fill my cart with the RM2, marker plus and new keyboard type Folio, it comes out to $627USD or $861CAD. If I put the same stuff in my cart on the Canadian site it comes out to $1057CAD!! OR $769USD. Why the massive increase!? If I bought a Note Air 2 from Boox's website for $627USD, then I pay the straight conversion rate of $861CAD; this is true on virtually every site I've purchased items from EXCEPT for ReMarkable which likes to create random prices for different regions of the world; its really bizarre
Mine is scheduled for delivery and hopefully I’ll be getting to know and enjoy it soon. Thank you for your always great, informative and thorough reviews/videos. You’re the best
I ordered one. Having an original Remarkable 2 buyer connect subscription discount makes it more bearable, pricewise. Did get the message, "We're unfortunately experiencing longer delivery times than usual due to a supply issue. We know you're excited about your order, and we're working hard to get it to you as soon as possible. Sorry to keep you waiting - we’ll send you a new estimated delivery date once we know more." Can't wait to get it, but who knows when. I'm not upset about the delay; it happens. Hopefully there'll be more information forthcoming soon.
And another email: Delay due to QA issue, which they are correcting; Shipping and a partial refund to be issued, which is a positive move, and IMO, offsets the delay. Good to see communication on this.
Thank you for this awesome review! Extremely helpful! - Just recently received my Type Folio and have been wondering why I couldn't figure out how to select and move typed text, as you can with other drawn/written objects on the page - Assumed you could do that, but this indeed verified that you cannot simply use the select tool and move typed text objects. This would be a huge improvement, if the team was willing to build that functionality - Add ability to use the select tool to select pieces of text and move, or even resize entire blocks of text. Thank you again for this help (wasn't sure if I was just doing something wrong) - Your reviews are EXTREMELY helpful!
Fantastic review! I agree, the handwriting/picture layout, like word does (Inline with text / with wrapping, tight) would be amazing. More flexibility of the typed text would be great also. I asked them about shapes, like rectangles etc so it would be amazing if you could like draw a table, and it would snap to a grid preview, then you could double tab inside a cell, Type in the cell, opposed to what it currently does, (starts typing at the start of the line). They replied to me saying the shapes is a highly requested feature and they are looking into it :)
Many thanks Voja for this excellent review (as usual). I'm a big fan ! I ordered mine the very day it was released and got it faster than expected. Lucky me 🙂 A few things I have noticed when trying out this lovable keyboard: For some reason, they chose to have some key labels in a (not so) light grey color that is hard to see under dimly lit conditions. Maybe not the brightest move... A few shorcuts and key functions are not documented beside the extended selection capabilities you demonstrate in your review and here are the ones I've found so far: 1. Shift Backspace acts as Suppr 2. Ctrl Backspace deletes the characters before the cursor position till the beginning of the word. 3. Ctrl Shift Backspace suppresses characters from the cursor position till the end of the word. 4. The Tab key affects the bullet lines only (adds one level of indentation and changes the bullet type); It has no effect on normal text, titles and subtitles; I'm missing the usual "Tab" function that is used to align text over several lines allowing to make a nice table; This kind of behavior could be easily implemented using a dedicated "Table" style. 5. Shift Tab key combination unindents the bullet lines, changing them into text lines when reaching the lowest level of indentation (?!); This is kind of inconsistent with the way Tab is working in the other direction (and is a bit distracting ;-). Feel free to add the ones I may have missed in your replies. Another strange thing is that the Caps Lock key does not work for non character keys like it does on all the keyboards I know and use ?! I don't know if this is specific to the French keyboard or not but this is annoying for us french users as typing numbers requires the Shift key to be pressed and I often use the Caps Lock when I have to type several numbers in a row. Anyway, I hope this will be changed in a future update to provide a seemless (and undistracting ;-) experience when moving from a standard keyboard to the type folio. Of course I would love to have several text blocks on a single page, with the ability to select, resize and move them around the page as I please; I do hope this will come in a future release. Numbered lists would also be nice to have, as well as the ability to control character size and line spacing. A simple, yet limited (but non distracting ;-) way to offer this could be to provide several options when selecting the "Text" tool like you have several thicknesses when selecting the "Stroke" tool. I hope this will also come in a future release together with the ability to manipulate multiple text boxes for example. Well, that's all for now. Please let me know what you think and keep up the excellent work. Thanks !
What an excellent video and review of the Type Folio! I’m not a Remarkable user but your video is making me want to get the device cos of the Type Folio… I also love your My Daily Organiser… strongly recommend everyone to get one too!
Just for anyone watching this now I just got my type folio. First of all it came through within a week, and secondly you can now navigate menus using arrow keys, enter, and ctrl+w to go up a folder. The opt button seems redundant if windows mode is selected. Maybe some future functionality will be included with this key. For future updates it would be nice if while navigating files backspace would delete, Ctrl+N would create a new notebook/folder etc.
I'm just realizing with your introduction which mentions how this doesn't work for the ReMarkable 1; that this may finally be the first significant difference between the ReMarkable 1 and 2. As far as I know both have continued receiving the same software updates, connect, etc. and this keyboard is now finally something more "substantial" that can set apart the two generations. I still passionately hate the price of it though...😂
32:16 They have fixed this and that functionality now exists which is extremely helpful. remarkable continues to deliver as promised! Also at 51:22 it's important to note that all the extra room on both sides of the page are for taking written notes as need, but I can see your point of where it would be useful to have that "snap to" page functionality.
I'm not even interested in this and I just watched the whole thing because it was the most well described and thorough review I've ever seen. I wish more people reviewed products like this.
Love and appreciate your deep dive with this new product from Remarkable. I ordered my keyboard on Sun April 16 2023 from the remarkable site. They did not have a specific ready date but I think they did indicate it would be 30 days+. My keyboard did ship on April 27th via DHL and is due to arrive on May 1st 2023. So not too bad, just over two weeks. I am in Maryland USA, and DHL indicated the package made it through customs ok. Looking forward to trying out my new keyboard!
Another comprehensive and highly informative review, thanks for that! While not initially tempted, I must admit that the added functionality and the positives you mention make me now seriously consider the device.
I really appreciate the indepth review!! I just bought mine, I'll gladly wait for it, but that's just me. Just as a note, when you're going between typing and writing, maybe create different layers for both (layer 1=typed text, layer 2=hand written text). This would be a way to better select between different separate 'marks'. Also if you are using the marker for editing notes, having different layers equate to different colors for different people could help in a situation where you need to track who is suggesting different changes/ edits. Example: Layer 1. Typed text Layer 2. Black ink (originator) Layer 3. Red ink (initial edit) Layer 4. Blue ink (Boss' input) You could do the same idea for the highlighter colors for specific topics, or study groups if used for classes. I love that reMarkable came up with this accessory, but I also agree with your "rotation " suggestion. Maybe on the "Type Folio plus"? 😂
Thank you, as always. (MDO daily user.) I may be in the minority, but your review snapped me out of what had been my reflexive response to purchase the Type Folio. Admittedly, it looks very cool on first blush, and it's an engineering accomplishment. But...I don't want to take notes in landscape mode. And it does bother me that the screen bezel is not centered for typing. As for the added girth, the raised surface will also make the handwriting position less comfortable. While I love my Remarkable 2, there clearly is still room for improvement, and doing so will breed further acceptance of the company's FOCUS credo (without blurring the line between it's product and the laptop market).
@@MyDeepGuide p.s. An example of an incremental improvement on the existing notepad would be to allow typing on a notated .pdf from the desktop app. (Presently this is not possible on a .pdf from the notepad itself, and I doubt it would be with the Type Folio, either.) So, let's say, an MDO user THEN would be able to amend a "Daily Notes" from the desktop app using a standard keyboard prior to exporting, then either printing or saving the more Deep-Thought-out 😉 note.
Thank you for speaking out about the delay and canceling issue. I got an email from the CEO saying blah blah about my order being delayed. Covid is over Rrmarkable 😢
This is going to be excellent for my workflow. I use pen when brainstorming and working on tasks at work and will use the keyboard for making meeting notes where I need to get information down quickly
My biggest gripe is the choice to include the accent mark keys in the US English layout rather than the brackets where they normally are and using the option/alt key for accent marks. I use square brackets for edited quotes all the time, and I already have the muscle memory of using opt+e for an aigu, opt+u for a dieresis, etc. I would also have been willing to tolerate a slightly smaller backspace (on the US layout, definitely not on an ISO layout) to have the + in the right place. The keyboard shortcuts, however, are the ABSOLUTE right call. Adapting to the Mac vs. PC muscle memory in software and just calling the keys one thing, rather than trying to force one or the other set of shortcuts or labeling the keys with both labels, makes absolutely perfect sense.
This, so much this. I think that Voja is some kind of teacher (University? High school?) and it really shows in how he structure the flow of information, the pace, etc...
@@insaciableshakuras190 I think Voja, is a master mind when it comes to product design and features, with a deep empathy for the end user. I take notes from the videos.
Thanks for the review, it really helps my purchase decision Your point about the weight is one that I hadn't considered but I felt you did it a disservice comparing the thickness against the bare Remarkable rather than against a Remarkable in a standard folio/cover. Based on my measurements this means the type folio adds impressively little extra thickness.
Hey Voya, really appreciate your thorough reviews. Personally, I won't be purchasing a keyboard for my reMarkable 2; I love writing for several hours each day far too much to type on it! Also, I think there are so many "hates" associated with using it as is... I detest the foldimg folio cover; I detest the more-often-than-not sync failure message, I detest the touchy page resize update, and I detest that the desktop app files don't match my reMarkable 2...having said all that, I love writing on it (although some days, I wish I hadn't ever seen reMarkable :-(
@55:25 (humor) I like this kind of working - just splatting one's hand and scribbling. Factually this is a way one can successfully discover previously unknown features.
Maybe I should contribute to the internet with my amateur reviews which include 55 minutes not of useful commentary but rather anti-pattern behaviors of reviewing. How well does my iPad serve as a hot coffee coaster, and such.
What a beautiful piece of hardware, they definitely know how to design their devices. Love the way they have hidden it. The software bit is weak but I am sure they would sort it out. It’s painful when they can’t sort their shipping with their inventories. I can’t wait to use my typefolio. Thank you for your in-depth videos! Such a timely video for many of us who are eagerly waiting for theirs.
I love your videos, they are very informative and very realistic at the same time. Now, I just bought reMarkable 2 and was going to buy some packages but then I noticed that you also make them and sell them! guess what... rather I would like to buy it from you, what I need is 20204 and 2025 calendar and DNO. I am going to visit your site nd see what and how I can buy them. Thank you.
Very nice review. I can not agree more about some of your opinion about the folio. Yes, I assumed that the folio should work as what originally remarkable intended in distraction free focused manner of use. One thing that make me reluctant to buy the folio is weight and its pricing. Especially pricing even though I can get 50 dollar discount, I have to pay logisitic fee around 20 dollar, so basically 30 dollar discount which make this product pricy a bit. BUT. I think I am going to buy the folio at the end.. Thank you for your review again, it will help my decision whether I should buy this one or not.
Fantastic video, Voya. I love watching your reviews. For me, the keyboard doesn’t do much. If I needed typing, I cannot see a scenario where I would not just pull out the laptop. I get the benefit of the uninterrupted reMarkable environment but I use this for call and meeting notes exclusively. There’s just no need in my work flow to have it also as a digital typewriter.
For text and diagrams: They should make it so that when you move a diagram around that is linked to a piece of text, a little vertical bar cursor appears inside the text @46:43
Hi Voja. What a great review! I'm absolutely amazed by it. The design is utterly wonderful, I adore it. It looks as if typing works better with keyboard than without it. I'm in state of considering it to buy, but I have to wait because the keyboard layout isn't that I need (I'm Czech). I hope they create layouts for other languages which they support. And I also want to see software development, what they will add, fix and so ever. I'm really curious about it. And maybe they drop the prize. I don't much like working on documents on computer. It's distracting because it's very easy to slip away and also I don't need million functions. I would be very exited if the reMarkable become replacement for document creating. It needs more formating function but I think they will add it, hope so. Additionally, only problem I have with current update is that without the keyboard I'm not able to freely select words. Only by gestures. That is something what needs to be fixed. I have to go on mobile and edit it.
you are right, it is not right to sell things like that. as you don't know when it will be delivered! it's annoying! thank you for the information! 👏🏻👏🏻
The closest “competition” in the digital typewriter space is the FreeWrite, which is muuuch more expensive than a rM 2 with pen and folio, so they might take a bite from that market Also, the rM can detect when the pen is hovering above the display(as noted with a red dot on the screenshare feature), so it seems easy enough to have the failsafes Kinda wish holding a key will invoke a shortcut for writing, like changing the tools, or better still, holding Option to temporarily switch to Select Eraser
I agree that there aren't a lot of alternatives, but there is one: Onyx device + BT of your choice Keyboard. If you are interested in focused digital typewriting, I can't stress this alternative enough, as you can customize your experience with a decent choice of suitable text editors from the playstore and any BT Keyboard you like. Further, I would add any tablet + BT Keyboard to the portfolio of digital typewriters.
The writing and typing combination is indeed impressing. Not sure how often the use cases would appear day to day, though. Also, the portability and the folding mechanism are very nice. The downsides: - Locked in. Both hardware and software wise. - Very Limited text editor in a lot of ways... My initial first negative impression from the first video has changed for the better, but in the end I'm just not the remarkable type. People who already have the tablet, sure go for it as it upgrades the functionality a lot, but to all the others I would suggest researching alternatives... My main point would be that I'm not convinced that you have a good digital typewriter with this one. A typewriters most important part is the keyboard, and here I'd say just cause of the small size of the keyboard it will be annoying and not very ergonomically writing on it. I would suggest everyone really interested in digital typewriting to go all the way to a custom mechanical keyboard. You don't have to spend tons of money and become one of those keyboard builder enthusiasts to find something of high quality, you will really enjoy typing on. Software wise, you want a choice regarding text editor to get the focus environment you need. I won't start with the advantages of an open file format:D...
Thank you, Voja - great comprehensive review as always. Two comments: (1) I understand the size limitations, but the keyboard looks a bit too cramped for long writing sessions. (2) I don’t understand why templates are even needed for typing. It should look and feel like a blank sheet of paper. And if I have different type sizes in my document, how will those fit into an evenly lined template? It’s a non-issue unworthy of criticism. Now there will be delays due to QC issues with the hinges, so that should give most of us rM2 owners some time to weigh the pros and cons before springing for this extra cost, weight, and thickness.
Regarding the templates, it is needed if you want to combine typed and handwritten text, and again, because they specifically mention that "some templates will not match". No one forced them to say that, but if they do, than that means that a reviewer should check that claim out, and see if any actually do for, or none fit. They could have easily said "please keep in mind that typed text will not fit the page templates" and that would have been perfectly clear and ok.
I'm afraid that they're even less transparent regarding the availability than you assume. My order was - theoretically - sent on Friday. But practically it has never been picked up by the courier. It is "waiting". I remember the chaos at the rm2 launch and honestly I don't know why I haven't waited....
eI ordered the wrong keyboard layout by accident - they were unable to change the order even though it hadn't shipped and probably wouldn't for months. They were able to cancel it but then now I'm unable to re-order the keyboard in the right layout with the connect user discount 🤷🏻♂ You're right, it's really funny that a company making organisational devices can't handle basic ecommerce functionality like this. Nevertheless, thanks for a great review as always! Also concerned about the longevity, my old iPad keyboard folio failed this way and it was very depressing to see a nearly $200 accessory just die like that.
The Re-markable Folio keyboard definitely removed my stigma on the iPad Folio keyboard. Glad that i bought it. Even though the motive was not about the keyboard in the first place.
Received an update on the delayed shipping. It's a quality issue they're correcting. Makes sense to stop/delay shipping if that's the case. Also, there is a partial refund it seems.
Yeah, they wrote to let me know as well with the same notification. This is of course good that they did this, but what I don't understand is why the initial silence and complete absence of information, but hey, at least we got some kind of communication from them, which is a lot more than what we're used to ;)
@@MyDeepGuide Just got the same email from them. Good to see they they are communicating, which, as you point out, is better than they have done in the past. :) Refunding shipping and a bit off the cost is a nice move too.
I like the minimalism. Received yesterday and many of the concerns here are simply not factors for me. Still have the plain cover if I want to write by hand.
I hope that the 90 degree Portrait rotation option will be in rev 2. That was a big miss IMHO. However, based on my use scenarios, I don't believe I will need this sexy addition.
Indeed. Portrait mode would complement the remarkable's original intent. But I'm guessing the connectors would prevent that this go around. Maybe. Dunno.
I just received my keyboard and agree with everything in this review. In particular that you cannot use the keyboard in portrait mode. ... if I could have a single fix then it would be this.
Yes I may just sell my large Freewrite after all and just keep my Traveler in combination with my RM2 and Typefolio...you know when they actually ship my Typefolio...
Quick question: Does Ctrl-Backspace erase complete words? Also, since we are required to work in landscape mode, I wish they would at least show the horizontal edges of the writing area. I feel like this would make it much easier to make all of your handwritten notes to remain within the edges when switching back to portrait mode.
I ordered mine on the 7th and it arrived today the 14th. I like it but when i put it on the lower setting it goes to portrait and if i turn on landscape it’s upside down.
If Remarkable reads this … I am at a new Type Folio and it is a great product overall. And there now are additional keyboard shortcuts. But what shocked me to be honest: When reading a PDF with the Folio, the PDF turns landscape of course. So the page will not cover the height anymore and even if it would, it would be too small. BUT: There is no shortcut to SCROLL DOWN or to FLIP PAGE. (e.g., SPACE, RIGHT ARROW). This is a bit hard to swallow. It would be a nice reading experience as the screen is bright and the text large (when fitting width). If it were for the shortcuts.
Thank you so much for the excellent review Voja and #mydeepguide ! Delayed as others have noted, but incredible customer service with an apology, a timeline, a rebate, and free shipping. I love typing on my Remarkable 2 now at my Bluetooth desk dock, and can’t wait to use this new keyboard on the go. The key switch seems (very) similar on the new folio to my Topre HHKB I use with the remarkable 2 now, so I am both hopeful and optimistic about it. Based on your review, excellent job #Remarkable team! Thank you for your great work with my deep guide and my daily organizer!
@@jordanbootsma2140 no hacking involved, just ssh in per remarkable instructions, turn on otg, plug in a Bluetooth dock, connect keyboard to dock. The downside to not hacking it is that every time the remarkable restarts the otg needs to be turned on again. But given the remarkable battery and sleep setup that’s pretty rare. If you do want to hack then you can set otg to always on.
It would need more than a rotating hinge for portrait mode - the pogo pins are only on the left of the tablet. It would need pins on the bottom edge for portrait mode. A shame they didn’t think ahead and do this. In fact, for me, I’d prefer the pins only on the bottom, as portrait mode is all I’m really interested in, for both typing and handwriting. As it is, it’s a showstopper for me getting the keyboard.
If the bottom of the cover (behind the keyboard) had the connector and the magnet, and the bucket plate had magnets and connectors for both the landscape and portrait orientation, it would work quite nicely.
Just noticed the screen is not cantered. Looks bad. I do like the folding design. They did that well. We need a Remarkable 3.0 with kindle and audible support. I'm getting a Scribe.
You can’t search typewritten notes in the app (never mind handwritten) so not sure the use of this. I can use any full keyboard with the app to add typed notes but again, without search capability. Doesn’t seem like a well thought out ecosystem yet for me (and I own it)
Great review! What if you combine typed and handwritten text, which you convert? Where does it appear? Just at the end of the typed text? Or on a new notebook page?
Great review! One thing that I've been wondering and want to clear up before I buy it is can you do sub-bullets? I noticed that they do have a tab button but does it allow you to do sub-bullets? No reveiw I've watched so far has covered this.
Could you try and export the text you did on this device into word on pc somehow (through emailing text and just copying it into word), but also taking text from word and importing it onto this device so you can continue typing there? This is the best use case for me but not sure how realistic it is
Does the Tab Ultra Keyboard have any of the implementations that you suggested? Although this is to me very good Keyboard Cover for the Remarkable 2 if that is the device that you use
i hope I don't have to wait for your comparison, again I like the performance of the Remarkable Folio But the Remarkable is not something that I will buy but if the Tab Ultra performs at that level along with some of the suggestions that you brought up,😎 I may upgrade from my Note Air 1, by the way AS ALWAYS GOOD JOB
Dear Voja. For one more time congratulations for an extremely detailed trully in depth review. I have to ask you something. WIthout folio I can type using greek texts with the virtual keyboard. I wonder if that is possible with the folio no matter the kind of keyboard you order. Im about to order one and this is very crucial for me to know. Thanks in advance.
Thank you very much. From what I understand, no, it will not be possible to type on any language other than the ones listed, that I have shown in the video, and Greek was not one of them. To be absolutely certain, please ask the Remarkable support directly.
@@MyDeepGuide I created a ticket and waiting for their response. I really need that stuff but if that functionality is currently missing that should be fixed asap. It really doesnt make sense to keep many users away from such a significant hardware improvement. As soon as a get an answer I will come back to that and send to all of Deep Guide Community that particular kind of imformation. Thank you for another one quick response.
The official remarkable answer on that, came just before 4 hours. I quote "The Type Folio has keyboard layouts for US English, UK English, French, German, Spanish, and Nordic (including Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, and Finnish characters). In Keyboard settings, you can choose your preferred style of keyboard shortcuts and select your keyboard input language for the physical Type Folio keyboard. Tap Menu in the upper corner, Settings, then Keyboard Settings to find these options."
I'm currently experiencing the unspecific delay-can't cancel-can't get a refund loop and it's quite infuriating! Really taints my feelings about the whole thing, as much as I love my RM2.
First reaction 200usd omg who would ever pay for that why not just use laptop. Hmm ok it’s like a typewriter and allow me to type without distraction… I must have it!
Wow, the keyboard being heavier than the tablet itself is surprising and crazy. Also the fact that the keyboard isn't touching the surface you put it on when you have it flipped on the back. And the keys will get dirty from your hands as well and get on the screen. You don't have to click on the pen when you wanna use the pen when in typing mode. 42:30 It's very annoying when it messes things up. Once it shifted my whole page and even when I removed all the typed text it didn't line up with the template again. What I hate the most about the typing is how you can't move the text around freely, and how you can't use all the space horizontally. So except the weight and the price it's amazing.
Didn't think of what? The hinge is a likely point of failure in the distant future of use on this accessory (we're talking years and years here, if it was made and tested properly), and there has to be a cable of some sort that leads from the keyboard itself to the contact on the main hinge, that rotates down to an almost 180 degree angle each time the cover is collapsed. How else do you imagine the keyboard transmits the signal to the hinge contact? I doubt they utilize magic here, although, it would explain the price, if they did :D
@@MyDeepGuideHaha, I looked at it again, and I was not seeing it well enough. I thought the pins where at the bottom and not on the hinge itself. Would have been a better design to solve the issue you mentioned. Sorry, will delete that part of my comment. orz
No need to delete anything :) Conversation is a natural, organic flowing thing :) And yes, I agree that what you suggest would have been a much better design decision, then there wouldn't be a need for an internal cable of any sort.
Surely in 2024, when watching this video, someone has released a version of the lined paper that 'fits' the typed text in either an update to the software or via Etsy? My idea for the awkward space to the right side off the screen, they should have fit a textured tab that flips up with shortcuts indented into the fabric like a quick reference guide built into the cover and flips up vertical covering that wasted space. Or, better still, the keyboard should really IMO be a type writer keys as we have the paper look, and the font to suit, and there should be extra keys or shortcuts that flip up on the right side (to cover that space and these are run through the connection to the remarkable tablet through the keyboard cover. I dont even own a remarkable yet, so what would i know?
Brother i say i really like you expanding to reviewing other things (phones, watches, etc.) too. I have seen no reviews like yours, utter perfection!
I appreciate that :)
I'm not whether to give a thumbs up or down on this video. It was a great review of the device, very thorough as usual. Unfortunately, you've now convinced me that I need to somehow find the money (and in CAD, too) to buy one because this looks really nice 🤣
I am a fan of the folio. I love it despite the weight. The quality of the keyboard is great. I got it in a few days.
I ordered mine delivery expected end of March!!!
Thanks for the video
Now delayed 7to 8 weeks!!!
If I bought a Note Air 2 from Boox's website for $627USD, then I pay the straight conversion rate of $861CAD; this is true on virtually every site I've purchased items from EXCEPT for ReMarkable which likes to create random prices for different regions of the world; its really bizarre
i love this review because i'm specifically interested in using the remarkable 2 as a distraction free electronic typewriter!
Thanks!
Mine is scheduled for delivery and hopefully I’ll be getting to know and enjoy it soon. Thank you for your always great, informative and thorough reviews/videos. You’re the best
after how long did you wait for confirmation of scheduled delivery?
I ordered one. Having an original Remarkable 2 buyer connect subscription discount makes it more bearable, pricewise.
Did get the message, "We're unfortunately experiencing longer delivery times than usual due to a supply issue. We know you're excited about your order, and we're working hard to get it to you as soon as possible. Sorry to keep you waiting - we’ll send you a new estimated delivery date once we know more."
Can't wait to get it, but who knows when.
Lucky me 🙂
A few things I have noticed when trying out this lovable keyboard:
For some reason, they chose to have some key labels in a (not so) light grey color that is hard to see under dimly lit conditions. Maybe not the brightest move...
A few shorcuts and key functions are not documented beside the extended selection capabilities you demonstrate in your review and here are the ones I've found so far:
1. Shift Backspace acts as Suppr
Thanks !
I am getting mine Monday next week :) I am looking forward to working with it!
Excellent review, as always. Thank you for such a detailed explanation of the folio. Now I want one!!🤣
Thank you very much! :)
Wow, this is a thorough review. Nice.
Another comprehensive and highly informative review, thanks for that! While not initially tempted, I must admit that the added functionality and the positives you mention make me now seriously consider the device.
Excellent review...great detail and no bull...you have made my mind up - many thanks!!
Thanks for the detailed video 👍
Absolutely fantastic review! Thank you for this diligently made review!
Example:
Layer 1. Typed text
Layer 2. Black ink (originator)
Layer 3. Red ink (initial edit)
Layer 4. Blue ink (Boss' input)
You could do the same idea for the highlighter colors for specific topics, or study groups if used for classes.
I love that reMarkable came up with this accessory, but I also agree with your "rotation " suggestion. Maybe on the "Type Folio plus"? 😂
Hi! Just wanted to say, that RM2 already automatically puts the typed text in a separate layer (Text) to the handwritten text (Layer 1). 🙂
@@TTCFeldkirchen that's awesome! Thank you for letting me know.
Thanks for another great video! I have one on order as well!
My keyboard folio arrived! Fast delivery - ordered Thursday night (early Friday); arrived Wednesday (when it says it will arrive Thursday).
Very well said! Thank you for sharing :)
Thank you for your hard work, as usual!
This is going to be excellent for my workflow. I use pen when brainstorming and working on tasks at work and will use the keyboard for making meeting notes where I need to get information down quickly
Thanks for the thorough review as always. I always trust you as the objective commentator.
Thank you so much for the splendid review. A lot to learn from your videos.
This Review is a piece of art! Thanks a lot Vojo!
Many thanks!
Thanks for the review, it really helps my purchase decision
Your point about the weight is one that I hadn't considered but I felt you did it a disservice comparing the thickness against the bare Remarkable rather than against a Remarkable in a standard folio/cover. Based on my measurements this means the type folio adds impressively little extra thickness.
Well done Voja! Appreciate! 👍
Hey Voya, really appreciate your thorough reviews. Personally, I won't be purchasing a keyboard for my reMarkable 2; I love writing for several hours each day far too much to type on it! Also, I think there are so many "hates" associated with using it as is... I detest the foldimg folio cover; I detest the more-often-than-not sync failure message, I detest the touchy page resize update, and I detest that the desktop app files don't match my reMarkable 2...having said all that, I love writing on it (although some days, I wish I hadn't ever seen reMarkable :-(
Amazing video, as usual. Thank you again for your very thorough and honest review! Guess who just bought one for $50 off? Lol waiting 7 weeks now
@55:25 (humor) I like this kind of working - just splatting one's hand and scribbling.
Danke!
Holy cow. Well better too long than too short lmao! Loved the video thank you!
Hi thanks again for this great video! I did buy the folio today ;) thanks
Looking forward to receive mine. I just need another shipping update😅
Good review, as always.
Amazing review, thank you!
Thank you.
Thanks for your review. I have just bought one. Thanks
9:42 This is what it says for U.K. right now when added to cart…
Express shipping (32-46 business days)
Standard shipping (39-54 business days)
A big thanks for your video ! As always very instructive. Merci
thx man, great review!
great review, thank you so much :-)
No cable lah. The contact port is straight to the base of the dock. Which helps it to link to the keyboard part. Smart actually.
The closest “competition” in the digital typewriter space is the FreeWrite, which is muuuch more expensive than a rM 2 with pen and folio, so they might take a bite from that market
Also, the rM can detect when the pen is hovering above the display(as noted with a red dot on the screenshare feature), so it seems easy enough to have the failsafes
Kinda wish holding a key will invoke a shortcut for writing, like changing the tools, or better still, holding Option to temporarily switch to Select Eraser
I would like to see a side-by-side with a FreeWrite device
I agree that there aren't a lot of alternatives, but there is one: Onyx device + BT of your choice Keyboard. If you are interested in focused digital typewriting, I can't stress this alternative enough, as you can customize your experience with a decent choice of suitable text editors from the playstore and any BT Keyboard you like. Further, I would add any tablet + BT Keyboard to the portfolio of digital typewriters.
The writing and typing combination is indeed impressing. Not sure how often the use cases would appear day to day, though. Also, the portability and the folding mechanism are very nice. The downsides:
- Locked in.
This looks so much better than your review of the supernote keyboard functionality. Has supernote made any updates at all to compete with this?
So sorry to hear that, but thank you for sharing your real world experience. It's very valuable for everyone to know what to expect.
The Re-markable Folio keyboard definitely removed my stigma on the iPad Folio keyboard. Glad that i bought it. Even though the motive was not about the keyboard in the first place.
As you said, beautiful and well designed folio but,......way too expensive for what it is. Thanks Voya for this good and detailed review
@@MyDeepGuide Have you had any issues with the Type Folio that you received?
None so far.
I wonder if they will issue recalls or refunds or something for the ones that have already gone out …
I like the minimalism.
Maybe. Dunno.
I will buy one and will test it. And tell them my own opinions. The pre-order is what I had to submit.
I just received my keyboard and agree with everything in this review. In particular that you cannot use the keyboard in portrait mode. ... if I could have a single fix then it would be this.
I think I just found my handwriting twin.
It would be nice if boox did something like this for the note air, I have a separate Bluetooth keyboard for my note air 2
Yes I may just sell my large Freewrite after all and just keep my Traveler in combination with my RM2 and Typefolio...you know when they actually ship my Typefolio...
Price is too high but it is inline with the other prices from remarkable (e.g., the marker plus is $129 :/). Great review and TKs.
Just tried it, and yes it does. CTRL+BACKSPACE deletes the whole word :)
I ordered mine on the 7th and it arrived today the 14th. I like it but when i put it on the lower setting it goes to portrait and if i turn on landscape it’s upside down.
Regarding issue at 45:18, you pinch to zoom out the page first, and than you can easily move the content.
Thanks, but I think that the functionality you described was added in a subsequent update after this video was made.
How do use remarkable with a Bluetooth desk dock? Something you hacked together yourself?
The whole back panel with the pogo pins would rotate, so no, you wouldn't need that.
@@MyDeepGuide I mean on the tablet itself - what would the panel attach to on the bottom?
If the bottom of the cover (behind the keyboard) had the connector and the magnet, and the bucket plate had magnets and connectors for both the landscape and portrait orientation, it would work quite nicely.
Amazing overview. Can you easily duplicate documents or is there some sort of built-in version control system?
No version control system, so you can make duplicates of both documents and notebooks.
Hi! Great video thank you :) question…. Does it works with external templates?
The lack of a secure stylus holder puts me off this immediately.
I'm currently experiencing the unspecific delay-can't cancel-can't get a refund loop and it's quite infuriating! Really taints my feelings about the whole thing, as much as I love my RM2.
Interesting. You don't mention if the keyboard can be used in the edit facility after converting handwritten text before emailing it.
