    one thing you must always keep on mind is that different pellets have different ballistic coefficients thats one of the reasons why you had to rezero your scope, and lastly test the H&Ns in different guns and you will se that some guns like them and others do, this all comes down to your guns barrel and its twist rate, H&N pellets are known for being a hard lead pellet not like the JSBs that a bit softer and that can also have effects on the pellet because of the way the barrel treats the pellet. good video anyhow, i just wanted to give some more info on that

    hi sir,
    thanks, good testing.
    now what i want to say = a forgotten and not so popular pellet is the GAMO DESTRUCTOR.
    i tested poly versus destructor with my hatsan striker 22mm vortex.
    and believe me the destructor, at 3o yards, is destructive and accurat with this [my[ hatsan.
    so i use this one for hunting, hatsan striker vortex 22mm and gamo destructor, my kill machine till 3o yards.
    and i use no scope.

    youre an absolute legend Kenny! The Predator polymags are excellent, I use the polymag shorts in .22 and they destroyed squirrels, one got knocked a meter from where it was standing when i shot it, and it totally rips their guts up, never even exiting such a small animal as a squirrel. That shows how they flip and turn as they pass through the body, dumping all their destructive power inside the animal. Best pellets for hunting by far!

Most pointed pellets are not very accurate, but the predator polymags shoot great out of my hatsan 150 sniper. Kenny was not a very good shot at all, (he has passed away). I find the polymags to start flying funny after 30 or 40 yards in most of my break barrel guns. But in my .22 break barrel, I have found the the Hornets are still flying straight to 65 yards, (so far). Those distances are usually reserved for a good semi heavy dome pellet, like a JSB.

    hey Kenny the pellets are designed to expand that's why they're polymag expanded like it did because you were at close range the other one didn't that's why it went any farther so I would say the Predator polymag did the job and the other one didn't

  • @taurbaby
    @taurbaby 6 років тому +7

    Polymags are going for $17.99 for a tin of .22 cal in my area...ive gotten excellent results hunting with crow magnums, but if i had to switch between the polymag and the hornet i would pick the hornet. I feel like in a headshot the metal tip on the hornet would get it into a skull a lot easier than a polymer one.

    • @DonnieJLCarson
      @DonnieJLCarson 4 роки тому +1

      I have to agree. Gamo redfire is basically a predator polymag. The brass tip hornet definitely penetrated better in my tests. If I need guaranteed skull penetration I’m using hornets. Hornets are so wicked they’d penetrate a human skull in my opinion.

  • @dancolley4208
    @dancolley4208 5 років тому

    Personally, I would prefer to use the Polymag regardless of the target. I would prefer to see the energy of a pellet dumped into the target and not blow out the other side of my target. Deeper penetration doesn't necessarily impress me, especially when I'm shooting to rid my property of pest squirrels. Like you, I don't eat game that I shoot with a pellet rifle so fragmentation is not an issue for me either. In fact, I would prefer to have more fragmentation so that more internal wounds occur possibly leading to more and faster blood loss. In short, leave the energy in the target if you can. On the other side, I don't know of many 12" thick squirrels. Maybe a 3" thick block would more accurately show the damage done to a squirrel?????

    H&N hornets from my point of view have been designed for armor penetration not hunting.
    I use them to punch trough old car doors and wooden planks and destroy old toys.
    Great fun !
    The ultimate test would be to shoot trough actual skulls.
    Farmers can supply you with freshly killed pig's heads.
    A 100-150 pounds pig average a human skull in thickness.
    Anyways, anything that could punch trough a pests skull is bound to kill it in a second so "which one is best" is almost irrelevant at this point.

    My gun absolutely LOVES the hornets.
    I use them exclusively. The money is worth it. They are all much more uniform and more precisely made. They were designed for magazines but work perfectly in break barrels.
    When taking squirrels or any type of bird that you may be hunting it penetrates perfectly. The controlled expansion really helps penetration with thick fur coats.
    I have easily taken squirrels from 60-70yards with these pellets with just a single pellet
    As with any hunting a poorly placed shot may require chasing the animal and putting it out of its misery.
    But I have placed these pellets in dime sized groups at 40-50yards and baseball sized groups at 60-70 yards (and the pellets are only rated for 30yards?!??!)
    I don't know if I have a perfect gun/scope combo or what but my gun LOVES these pellets. Will not buy anything other than h&n hornets.

      The purpose of shooting clay or gelatin is not only to test for expansion but to see penetration and the type of cavity that the round creates in soft tissue. Shooting metal plates is worthless unless you know of some type of small metal animal that we should be hunting.

      Who hunts metal plates? FYI, this guy has been dead for about a year.
