    Please keep reviewing, I have just binge watched all of these and learned a lot. These are so detailed and insightful with no need for dramatic B-Roll footage and forced reading. My only complaint is that there are not hundreds of these reviews to watch on your channel.
    Requests:
    -Nike Pegasus 36
    -Nike Pegasus 36 Trail
    -Hoka Bondi 6
    -In-depth Hoka Bondi 6 vs Rincon vs Clifton 6 comparison video for which would be useful in which context.

    I own a pair of Rincon running shoes. Best road shoe I've bought ever. Super light. They do make you want to run faster than you'd want ( or expect)! Fit is awesome. Great review by the way.

    so true, these are so comfy yet responsive and fast. They really make me run faster on every distance....without any effort, just because they are so nice to run. I have been running in Clifton for years....but now no return, Rincon are so much lighter, and faster, and as cushioned and comfortable.

    Fantastic review! I’m 132 miles into my Rincons and really enjoy them for everything from mile-pace (5:00/mi) striders to 10K-pace tempo runs (6:00/mile) to 16-mile easy runs at 8:30/mi pace. I am noticing the exposed midsole is starting to wear in the mid-foot but the heavy abrasion rubber is holding up great. I prefer something springier (e.g. Skechers Razor 3) for road races under an hour but otherwise a do-everything shoe!

    I tried the Rincon, Clifton, and Torin a month ago at the South End location. I chose the Rincon due to the lightness and pop they provided. I agree they make you want to run faster. I'll see how they perform in a half marathon in about a month.

    Thanks for this great review. 3rd option for the insole was to put it out completely. That is what I have done with many shoes. Saves a little bit of weight and the missing of such a thin insole is hardly recognizable.

    The Clifton 6 is a great update from Hoka. Although the upper has improved, I wish it would ventilate more. It seems to run pretty warm with its dual-layered upper you mentioned. Maybe Hoka could introduce the Rincon upper to the Clifton 7?

  • @boilingfrog783
    @boilingfrog783 5 років тому +2

    I'm a big fan of the Rincon. It seems that, finally, Hoka have come up with a worthy successor to the original Clifton.
    However, I think it's fair to say that durability will be an issue with this shoe. I've probably done about 70 miles with my first pair with some significant signs of wear already present.
    I guess that's the trade-off for having a shoe that combines lightweight with substantial cushioning. Obviously, something has to give.

    Looks cool but the narrow width would probably bother me....as an Altra fan I've gotten used to nice WIDE toe boxes. Clifton might be a better choice for me.

    • @TheUltraRunningCompany
      @TheUltraRunningCompany  5 років тому +1

      If your foot loves the Altra shape, we agree 100%. We dig us some Altras, and there's no sense trying to put any foot in a shoe with the wrong shape! The Clifton is a bit wider and the Clifton Wide is wider still, but both have a tapered toe box that may be a bit confining for feet that are used to Altra's more rounded toe box.

  • @tomschipper8559
    @tomschipper8559 5 років тому +2

    I don't understand so many calling this a narrow fit shoe. I have a narrow foot and tried on a pair of Rincons today and it was too wide for me to even consider buying a pair. Hokas I've worn include the original Tracer, Cavu, Cavu 2, Mach 2 and most recently a pair of Carbon X. I really wanted to like the Rincon but I had the laces as tight as they could be pulled where the strip that keeps the young centered and the shoe just didn't feel secure on my foot.

    • @TheUltraRunningCompany
      @TheUltraRunningCompany  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the feedback, Tom! One POSSIBLE explanation is that when we talk about narrow shoes we are generally referring to the toe box. What we tend to ignore is the clearance over the instep, which is a BIG DEAL for some folks. It could be that while you don't notice the actual width across the toes so much, there is simply too much material around the middle of the foot for you. It's a really good point that we miss from time to time. Compare the instep fit to a shoe like the Mach 2, for example, and we find the Mach virtually locks us in with no ability for our heel/instep to move...the Rincon is much more accommodating in that area, and feels very different. We totally get how that could be an issue for you.

    Good review. My experience- Rincon is light and fast. 200 miles so far and seeing some wear and tear. I find the toe box too narrow vs the C6. A one cm tear on instep. Overall, faster than C6 but not as comfortable. I would buy rincon 2 if it is wider.

    So here's a question maybe you can answer! Loving my Rincons, but am curious as to why so many people ALSO run in the Clifton. The Rincon is lighter and faster, but plenty of folks seem the think it's plenty cushioned for long runs. So why do you think people would ever choose the Clifton over the Rincon?

    Definitely felt the same way about wanting to run fast in this shoe as it just kind of springs you along. I think the energy return is really good, but I have the same problem with wear. I have far less miles on mine but the mid foot is getting chewed up. This shoe should last me several months do to my low mileage, but if you need something with more wear probably not the shoe for you. I also feel like the drop is less than a 5 because the shoe is so springy, it feels like the heel is really able to sink down and stretch the calf. I was coming from an 8 drop shoe but had a good bit of adjustment to this shoe. Still really like it though.

    I've got almost 90 miles in my 2E clifton 6's and imo they're definitely NOT a wide shoe either; i have to use some old brook's insoles to tame the 'guiderails' cause i swear Hoka just stuck a standard-width cliffton insole in my pair 😩

    • @TheUltraRunningCompany
      @TheUltraRunningCompany  5 років тому +1

      Hey there MCM! We get your aggravation with the "bucket seat" impact on feet who truly need widths - traditional shoes are designed to have your foot *on top* of the cushion, so if they overflow the sides you really wouldn't notice it as much. Even in widths, the HOKA's will let you know if your foot is larger than the shoe is designed to accommodate - it's just a result of their design philosophy. With that said, the shoe sale wider than their standard version when offered, and provide some relief to folks who otherwise wouldn't be able to consider a HOKA.
      We don't have the high-tech tools to measure the inside of our shoes to confirm the actual width as closely as we'd like (we tend to measure the outside of the shoe, inside of the "bucket" confines), we can confirm that our method has the Clifton Wides ~2mm wider at the toe and at least a mm wider at the heel. We pulled out the insoles after we saw your comment (a decent, if not exact, substitute for inside measurements), and the insoles on their EE shoes are in fact wider than those on their D-width shoes. Take it for what its worth, but while the shoes may still not be a good fit for your foot shape, they are wider than the standard versions.
      Thanks for watching & good luck finding a shoe that your feet love!

    It's weird because some reviewers have said this has a narrow toe box and others have said it's quite accommodating. Not really sure what to make of that except perhaps the upper is stretchy enough that it works for many people with wider feet.

    • @TheUltraRunningCompany
      @TheUltraRunningCompany  5 років тому +2

      We see that from time to time - specifically recalling when we disagreed with virtually every aspect of a certain red-haired reviewer's summary of the HOKA Huaka a few years ago. Bottom line is different people have different foot shapes and sometimes that effects how they feel about a shoe's fit. From a quantitative standpoint, you got us thinking and we measure the widest part of the the Rincon vs. the same point on the Clifton 6, showing a 5mm difference (102mm vs. 107mm across in a men's size 13). SO to us that means narrow. But who are we to say we know how to use a tape? :)
      More likely, the answer is along the lines of what we mentioned in the review - the upper is pretty awesome, the cushion is really soft, and the result is it seems to accommodate a wider foot than the actual cushion frame should. We think this is especially true on short runs: during

    I bought this shoe in the same color a month ago and returned it right away.
    My feet are wide but not super wide but still the upper on this shoe had ZERO flex in the toe box and that is a deal breaker no matter if I am training or racing.
    I have never run in a Hoka because of their narrowness, maybe the upper on Clifton 6 will have a little flex otherwise I might consider ordering the wide version which is sadly only available if you order directly from Hoka.

    Just found your channel. Really enjoyed your views on the sneaker. You give so much feedback on here I almost feel like I am watching a college professor on running. With that said, I have a few questions...I wear a wide foot, I enjoy a sneaker with a little more plush feeling and I am in the market for a marathon sneaker come this fall. Most of the running sneakers for wide feet are good daily trainers but not great marathon sneakers. Would you recommend the rincon or maybe the carbon x for someone with a wide foot and who likes a little plush in there sneaker? If not one of those could you recommend another sneaker or a good or great running sneaker in wide. I currently use the NB 1080 V10 and I love them but after running 14 miles in them they get a tad heavy. I am not sure I would like to wear them in a marathon. Thank you again.

      Hi Will! Thanks for the feedback. We have a great relationship with our local Sketchers rep, and can confirm that their performance line has some really solid products. One of the things we like to do is really WEAR the shoes we review (not just for a run or two, but really run in them for a while) before we review them. Since we don't sell the Sketchers brand, it's awfully hard to take the amount of time to do them justice with a quality review. We'll keep an eye out, though, and thanks for reminding us they're a quality option out there.

      @TheUltraRunningCompany  5 років тому +1

      Fair call on this one, but they have done a great job recently of introducing a number of different widths, toe box shapes and cushion types. We're not here to be an apologist for the brand, but if you get a chance to stop by a local store with a broad selection of HOKAs, there's a pretty strong chance you'd find something that fit pretty well. If you're in Charlotte, swing by URC - we have every (neutral) model made and would be happy to see if something worked.

    I just bought the Clifton 6 but I think there’s something wrong with the arch in the left shoe - it’s higher than the right - so its going back 😩 - I’m not going to risk Plantar Fasciitis. I looked over all the running shoes that are out right now and nothing appealed to me very much so I’ve ordered a pair of Rincons. I absolutely love them BUT the outsole rubber wears out so fast (slight pronation). But, because they are so light and so comfortable I guess I have to deal with it...

    I had difficulties fully concentrating on your review with the dominating background music, the 'in and out' editing and frequent jump cuts. • @TheUltraRunningCompany
      @TheUltraRunningCompany  5 років тому +2

      Point taken, 8strings! We are a "working" running store (if you can call what we do working...), and from time to time we get busy enough the background noise makes it onto the reviews. We've had a couple of instances where this definitely shows up, and while we try to adjust to eliminate that, we know we don't always succeed. We also feel pretty strongly that folks who come in our store get first priority and priority on the experience (they pay our bills and all..), and we tend to err on the side of getting our reviews out there even when we know the day-to-day store activity intrudes just a bit. Hopefully most of our other reviews are more consistent - that's definitely what we're shooting for. Thanks for the feedback - Its important to us and we'll keep trying to get better. :)

    Too bad the insole is so thin. Is it so difficult for shoe companies to put ortholite type insoles which are more durable?

    • @TheUltraRunningCompany
      @TheUltraRunningCompany  5 років тому +1

      While we don't think a thick Ortholite sole (like those found in the Salomon Sonic lineup, or similar quality insoles found in other HOKAs) is always necessary, we get where you're coming from. In this case, we would have been disappointed to see a highly molded version of that material in the shoe - it doesn't need the extra cushion, we find that foam can trap quite a bit of moisture, and we certainly don't miss all the contours in the footbed trying to pretend they know how our foot is shaped. The only real bummer about this "flimsy" sockliner is that it tends to move around when it gets wet..which is a huge bummer. We know there are some higher quality sockliners out there, (HOKA used to include an Ortholite version for optional use with many of its shoes), but in this case the flaw is the movement, not the durability. We don't think a thin, unmolded Ortholite insole would solve that problem either. HOKA chooses to glue the sockliner down in this case (a first for them, we think, but we wouldn't stake what little reputation we have on it...), but that glue hasn't held in every case.
      All that to say we don't disagree with their choice here, but we would love to have them figure out a way to keep the danged thing down! :)

      Not this one. Geo! :) The best bet is to go to a store with awesome selection and check out as many as you can. Next bet:
      1) if it's the FRONT of your foot that is wide (think squared off toes), then the Altras and Topos may be a great bet.
      2) If its the WHOLE foot that is wide (think same width from front to back) then a true WIDE shoe will be better. We love the HOKA Bondi Wide, the HOKA Clifton Wide and the Saucony Triumph ISO 5 Wide for this type of foot.
      We hope that helps!

    I found my first pair to be accommodating to my wider foot, with a volume that is almost too much. The "hoop" on the back looks cool, but is too close to get a finger under. The feel of the shoe is nice - good balance of responsive and bouncy. The foam of the shoe DOES NOT LAST. I was in the store on Sunday and tried on a new pair. It was visible how much the older pair (78 miles) was lower than a fresh pair... Jennifer and my wife both could see it, and I could feel it - the Hoka foam breaks down super fast. Lastly, at 78 miles of Vermont pavement/dirt road running, the outer isn't breaking down badly, though I think in combination with the foam breakdown, I doubt I will get 200 miles out of the $115 shoe. That's not a good investment, IMHO. For stats to compare... I am 5'6" and a muscular 160 lbs, running roughly 8 minute training miles from 4 to 10 miles per run. On a side note... I tried on the Rehi, finally. The women's size 10 was a perfect fit on my feet and felt exactly like my beloved Evo Jawz, but more "roadie" - I will be grabbing a pair of those as I get closer to my fall 10K "A" race. Loved them! In conclusion, I will continue to use the Rincon, because it really does feel good.

      Thanks for the insight, Charles! We're just a *bit* confused for portions of it, but love your enthusiasm. :) Good luck in your continued search, and with whatever shoe you choose!!

    Would you recommend it for a marathon? I need a cushy bouncy shoe but dont want to spend the money for the next%

      We'd have no issue with it. We noted our concern about cushion breakdown in the review, and with 200 miles on them we can confirm it does compress a bit. A new pair, though? So much fun, and as long as you like cush in your race shoe a really solid option.

      The Ultra Running Company Thanks. That was my plan. Use it just here and there for a fast run and then save it for the marathon.
