"Something that will make God absolutely livid..."
*Opens a bar in LA*
😂🤣🤣🤣
This chapter should be named "The Walker family will need all the therapy, forever"
I feel like I need therapy after this one...
the actors playing Desire and Corinthian absolutely killed it.. not to take away from the rest of the cast.. they did a great job too... but with these 2 actors, it feels like the characters were written by keeping them in mind...
Yes. Yes!!!
You most see to Mason Park Alexander in Cabaret and the revival of Quantum Leap
Agree about Mason Alexander Park. They probably only have less than 10 minutes' total screen time, but they were so memorable. I always wondered how Desire could be effectively translated into live action. How do you portray the literal embodiment of human desire? But Mason absolutely KILLED it. The whole time I just kept on wanting to see more of them.
So, you Desired more, you say.
I usually find it weird wearing those kind of costumes especially to adult males but dang he nailed it! Desire looks sooo badass!
@@ShadowFungus Mason Alexander Park is actually nonbinary, they/them pronouns
@@alex6027 thank you. Already got in trouble for using what seemed like the obvious, simple, not intended to be offensive sex-based pronoun. Then getting in trouble as if I’m somehow supposed to know the currently Correct gender lexicon And supposed to know how an individual who I don’t personally know thinks of themselves.
@@mynameisnoonesbusiness4488 now did you actually get in trouble, or were you calmly corrected and interpreted it as trouble?
Dream's threat to desire was specifically "I will forget you are family", so it's fairly obvious that there are at least _rules_ against harming family, and probably consequences that Dream is almost willing to pay already.
@DUMMIE That why if Dream ended up killing Rose that would harm him right? Cause she is Desire descendant?
@@Napchuli Correct. If he had killed Rose, or any member of his family, the Fates would be after him, and he wouldn't be able to stop them.
You know that Dream is angry when he's willing to accept the consequences of killing family in order to seek his vengeance.
Also seems like there’s definitely two ‘sides’ within the family if fighting broke out? As in death and destiny would back Dream and despair and delirium would back Desire (although without reading the comics I don’t know why it would be like that)
Corinthian, Fiddler's Green, and Desire feel like they're 100% the comic book characters they were based on. Flawless performances
I love that in the end, unlike the comic, Unity Kincaid did not present herself as her younger self - she is a queen! and she owned her life and legacy.
stephen's goodbye speech got me HARD. cause it felt like not only the character's, but also his own. the "walk around my meadows, rest underneath my trees." oh man, what a gem of a man.
Loved this reaction, thank you for sharing them! Mason Alexander Park said in a interview that they only had 2 days of filming on set... They were in, got the make-up and costumes and then done. Yet I feel they were one of the biggest show stealers in the entire season... Can't wait to see more of them in Season 2!
They absolutely did, their presence on screen was so captivating.
and got their role via a tweet! which is incredible.
@@ayaehab como fue esa historia?
@@jhojans2230 I understood you want to know the story? Mason tweeted at Gaiman that they are interested in Desire's role. I believe Neil checked their performance from videos on youtube, they are a stage actor. Directed them to the casting director with his blessing! and we got Desire!
@@ayaehab genial, entendí esa historia.
Tengo otra pregunta, porque se refieren al actor como como ellos, como si fuesen muchas personas?
🤔
They didn't get cast because of the tweet. Mason got cast because of their talent. Neil found out about them because of the tweet.
Mason was already well known in Broadway so it’s really reductive to say they were hired because of a tweet.
@@Cixon14 That's stupid. No one said they don't have talent, just that they wouldn't be cast if it wasn't for the tweet because they wouldn't have known about them.
@@erikperhs_ "They"
They were smart enough to use twitter to ask if Desire had been cast and whom the casting director was. Neil Gaiman responded to the tweet, gave them the neccesary information which led to them landing the role. They themselves have stated they got the role because of a tweet
@@amandaidange4981 That’s correct! Good job! :)
09:39 I literally teared up at this moment, it was so beautiful. Gilbert is a charming man and an even more charming place.
My jaw dropped with the "Season of Mists" set up. That was absolutely perfect.

and working as a consultant lol
I can't imagine how much of a privilege it must be for a writer like Gaiman to be able to reflect on a creation for so many years and then have the opportunity to recreate their masterpiece while informed by all those years of growth and reflection.
Like I am sure so many writers and artists have spent the years after a big creation of theirs thinking about how they would do it better or different. And Neil got that opportunity
"The original defeat of Galbatorix" Damn, I just got slapped straight back into my childhood with that one line lmao.
What a finale to an absolutely stunning season of television!! Loved your daily release of these videos! Such a delight to see you both experience this journey together.
1. I understand the feeling of the finale feeling "small" but not in a bad way. Arguably, the biggest conflict in the first season is Dream's imprisonment, followed closely by the loss of his tools. The first gets taken care of in ep 1, and the rest are taken care of in eps 3, 4, and 5. Ep 2 explains the stakes of having the Dreaming restored. Dealing with the Vortex is important, but we don't actually know why, beyond the fact that vortices remove the walls between dreams. We see dreamers disappear (dusted? sanded?), but we don't get the sense that they are psychically damaged by this when we encounter them again in the waking world. The real damage seems to be having dreams revealed to other people when that is meant to be kept private.
So in that sense, Rose's vortex plot is sort of a macguffin on a macguffin. Her search for Jed sucking in Fiddler's Green and The Corinthian is what's more important for Dream, the nominal title character of the series. And The Corinthian being able cause Dream to bleed is both a vortex story point, but also a metaphor on how a "nightmare" has inspired humans to become nightmares themselves, moving what was often limited to dreams into the waking world. Something that I wished could've been delved into by the show, and was better covered in the comics, was all of the different effects in the waking world that Dream's imprisonment caused. We only get Unity as someone who stayed asleep, and the rest of the million people who suffered the "sleepy sickness" stayed faceless. The comics tied the soldiers in WWI suffering shell shock to sleepy sickness, and also implied that various social upheaval in the 20th century were impacted by either Dream's absence or the loose dreams and nightmares wandering the waking world.
Back in the series, the showdown between Dream and The Corinthian isn't one of direct action or even will. It is a battle of ideas, and it's not obvious that Dream's ideas are "better". Getting Rose to wake up gives power back to Dream and lets him unmake The Corinthian. He battles Corinthian's ideas by removing the serial killers from their dreams. He literally kills their dreams with reality. That is not at all wiz bang, but it was definitely effective.
2. Without spoiling the rest of the comic, I think it's reasonable to mention that the Sandman is about stories, and also about change. I hesitate to use "growth", because that's a freighted term, but we are given many glimpses into various characters who change, including Dream himself. I look forward to how Gaiman and team further alter story points to make that more focused in future seasons.
Yes. I didn't read the comic, but you can see that the very main character isn't about action and physical power. He's a dream, so everything is about stories and people. So, for example, the ending is about two of the characters and not about punching the corithian away for final fireworks
The Sandman is anthology of stories. That's the word.
I think another reason it flows differently is that he's less limited. A comic has to be only so many pages and panels so he has so much more to work with and I adore how it progresses now.
Desire is THE breakout character of this show for me, I just can‘t get enough of them. Mason Alexander Park delivered so hard… awesome!!!
When you manage to make such strong impression on such a short screen time, you know you nailed it
Can't wait to see how they'll do on a completely different character (who seems to ba a geeky/introvert scientist) in the reborn of Quantum leap
They have done some voice acting in the past...but yeah, this is the first time I've seen them in a live action role!
@@AnxietyRat They also played Gren in the live adaptation of Cowboy bebop
One of the few things to save from this trainwreck
@@axlm.808 Never seen that anime or adaptation... heard of the anime tho. That's cool!
So much great in this episode... A fun note: I finally saw at the end (maybe others already did from episode 4?): the high-shot of Lucifer's courtyard looks like a debased parody of Saint Peter's Square.
the way she/they say "something that would make God, abso lutely livid" in that tone, with those facial expressions, it sounded like she/they said "DELICIOUS"
and omg IT WAS.
It's so great seeing someone who's obviously a huge fan of the comics react to this, thanks so much
The casting for this entire series was so perfect, so careful and clever. Lucienne is possibly my favorite character in this adaptation, she was SUCH a strong... not a foil, but like, a balance against Dream in their scenes? I feel that the entire show would have suffered terribly if Lucienne had not been able to match Dream's quiet but powerful performance, but she did, perfectly. That sense of DEEP knowledge and patience, quietly providing the scaffolding for Dream's ethereal menace.
But you're absolutely right, in the few scenes we saw them in, Mason Alexander Park absolutely KILLED it as Desire. I can't imagine anyone else in that role now. Also, it's SO good to see a nonbinary actor cast as a nonbinary character. A small thing, but gods there is SO LITTLE representation.
Yeah Corinthian gets that stab in the comic but it does eff all, and I was SHOCKED when it went down like this in the show, and it was perfect. I loved the surprise. And though I was delayed getting to this reaction (and we have e11 now) I loved watching along with ya'll, I've been watching a while but intermittently.
Also first mention of Delirium yay! I cannot wait to see who is cast as Destiny, the Prodigal, and Delirium.
I loved the portrayal of Desire. Out of all the the Endless that appeared this season they were the closest to how the comic portrayed them. Not only was the acting on point, but the costuming for Desire made them look like an outer-worldly being. While I loved the performances of Dream, Death and Despair their costuming really didn't give them that outer-worldly look from the comic, especially when your contrast it with the costuming and effects of the other beings like Lucifer, Mazikeen, Gault, The Corinthian, Fiddler's Green and of course Desire themself.
Other that those minor gripes about the costuming it was a very faithful adaption of the comics. Can't wait to see Season 2.
I thought Despair's adaptation lost so much from the comics 😐
@@fusionXY I agree. She reminds me more of Sadness from"Inside Out",if that makes sense!;-P
@@Nicamon lol
@@jamesliggins891 She gives me the vibes,you know?😄
to be fair, with Despair, she can't really be comic accurate in terms of costuming due to the fact that she'd have to be naked 24/7, haha
Oh how lucky! I recently found your videos of all the previous episodes and only an hour away from the finale premiering.
Glad to see people enjoying this show as much as I am.
This has become my favourite Netflix series just after one Season.. I wish American Gods got this treatment.
Loved Roger Allam’s voice as Azazel! Glorious!
Great reactions, as always!
So good! He's arranges Danearys' wedding in GoT!
Roger Allan is a great actor that many, many people overlook. His voice can be as kindly as your favorite uncle or as terrible as your worst nightmare.
i for one am so glad that this series introduced me to you two, you're so fun. you've been such a joy to watch thus far and i am SO looking forward to watching more :D
I will defend it till the day I die that Desire was perfectly casted
The most surprising thing about this video was the Inheritance reference. I'm amazed and awed and have so much more respect for y'all now xD
It's Clarus' favorite book series!
I've never met anyone else who truly loved that series so this makes me happy. I mean it's flawed certainly, but It holds a special place in my heart
"GENGAR!!". Loved that reaction 😂
Actually the Corinthian did stab Dream in the hand in the comics
When I first saw the scene I had to go back and check😅
I watched the whole season with the two books in hands, it was an amazing experience
I loved Christie's outfits, but she's wearing boots underneath that put the top of her head at 7'1". So magnificently tall!! She's my favorite casting for the series, honestly, and reminds me of Tilda Swinton's Gabriel from Keanu Reeves's "Constantine".
Agreed! She's a heartstopper!
For those who have seen all the episodes of Sandman apparently on Netflix was released today the eleventh episode of the first season.
Our reaction will be up tomorrow at 10am est!
They got the Sandman's name "Morpheus" from the Greek Pantheon. Was the God of Sleep and Dreams. Easy to see why people get confused with the Matrix. But he, too, was named Morpheus (in the Matrix) because he was guiding Neo in his "Sleep" state.
Considering I am familiar with the source material knowing what coming in season 2, if they do what they have with season 1 in that they cover 2 volumes a season, I'm so excited for season 2.
I understood the Galbatorix reference, thank you for waking up my childhood memories
Technically the Corinthian does stab Dream's hand like that in the comics, but it's a no-sell -- Dream just ignores it completely. I think it's largely a balancing act between Dream being an entity of unfathomable power, and at the same time being vulnerable as a person. In the comics, the first half of the series primarily focuses on his power, and the second half on his vulnerability. The Netflix series seems to be taking a more nuanced approach.
Mr Gaiman is an astute observer of the human condition...and yet very much still himself...(unlike some of us that can't quite articulate what we see with such clarity and goodwill.) I've always admired his ability to weave the most epic mythological themes into the most mundane elements of our existence, into the tiny little battles against our flaws and foibles. He's a treasure...and we've been blessed to be alive during his ascension and productivity...to watch it all unfold in real time. Thank you for giving me a chance to watch this series through your eyes (the Corinthian would be proud...or aroused...hard to say which...possibly both lol).
God! I love how this episode teased Season of Mists
Let the casting wishes begin! Kristoffer Hivju as Thor, Tara Strong as the voice of Bast, ...
@@TorIverWilhelmsen I'd like to keep Bill Nighy as Odin from the audible adaptation

The Sandman may very well be one of my all time favorite tv shows
lol. I was waiting for the scene where someone would say " you know you are amazing?" response: "it runs in the family" a double take
I’ve absolutely LOVED watching your reaction videos to this series. The only thing I’m sad about regarding the edits is Clarus’ reactions to three scenes:
1) finding out that Jed and Rose were children of the endless
2) where Dream asks Desire if the plan was really to “have me spill family blood with all that would entail”
3) Dream saying to desire “do you really think you’re strong enough to stand up to me, to dream, to destiny?”
Other than that, excellent work/videos guys!
Thanks to you both for these great reaction videos! I never really watched these videos until Sandman since I'm a big fan of the graphic novel and have been looking forward to the show.
I watched a lot of other bloggers videos but yours were the only ones I watched all of. You all really cared about the show and the material. You have great chemistry. And Nerdy cries so easily. :D
Looking forward to other videos you all make!
First, just wanted to say, I don't usually watch reaction videos (unless it involves nail polish, lol), and I truly do not know what made me decide to click on the first video of your ep01 reaction, but I'm glad I did. I really love the dynamic between you 2. Especially with this series. I'm on the 'did not read the comics before watching' side, so I was Clarus when I was watching the show the first time. But loved seeing Nerdy get all excited, nervous, anxious, etc as parts were happening and he knew/thought he knew what was coming up. I did go and read the comics after, as well as continue on into the others. My hot take...I enjoy the show more. Apparently these types of indepth comics/graphic novels, just aren't my thing. For literature, I need novels (ie: Wheel of Time, I really should reread those, it's been a long time), with more description/info given to me so that I can fully submerse my brain. Comics like these just don't have that same ability in the short length they have to have, and rely heavily on the pictures they help guide the storyline. Not to say they aren't great, just not my cup of tea. But the later volumes are certainly getting me excited for what I could expect in future seasons! I'm living for more Desire! Can you say Family Dinner? LOL
I agree with everything the 2 of you said about this show. It's in my top favourite shows of all time, and if I had been able to be as connected to the Dollhouse half as I was to the Preludes and Nocturnes half, it would probably be number 1. I think I had the same issues as you 2 with connecting with Rose, which made those episodes lack a little for me. However the performances of Dream, Gilbert and The Corinthian kept bringing me back fully. I've watched this twice already, plus your reactions videos, obviously, so almost 3 times. And I'm going to watch it again, and again, and again.
You two are awesome, thoughtful, and thoughtfully awesome 💪🏻
Glad to not merely have your reactions, but your perspectives too! 👍🏻
_And.. That's a wrap for season 1!_
Thank you for the epic journey, guys~ Btw Neil found out about Mason through the tweet and watched some of their clips and immediately convinced that Mason is *Desire.* Understandable. Because Mason is very charismatic. Now we wait for season 2 of *The Sandman.* See you guys next year~ 👋
It was only after your comment about new community members that I realized I hadn’t subscribed yet.
I have ADORED this show, and your reactions to it, as people who both read the comics and didn’t, were wonderful to watch.
Btw another reason why Morpheus couldn't kill Rose is because she's a family member sense she's desires granddaughter and one of the rules is that you must not spill family blood, desires plan was for dream to kill her and break this rule
But how was Desire so sure Rose would inherit the vortex? And why Rose and not her parent?
The actor playing Desire tweeted at Gaiman asking about casting. Gaiman sent them to where the website info on where to apply.
11:43 this looks like Robert Smith getting into a fight with Marc Almond in the VIP lounge of some club in London circa 1983😛
Really look forward to that bonus episode, Michael Sheen and David Tenannt together again, kitties and muses.
Thank you for making these they were great and totally added to my enjoyment of the series 🖤
Was just reading the Orpheus story, can't help but wonder if they'll do that in the future, and if they'll take us to the past to visit it if they do, or do a modern variation.
Mason Alexander Park is perfect for Desire. The casting of this series has been fantastic.
It's an actual Greek myth, so they'll probably do a flashback.
"Dress me up in me oilskins and jumper,
No more by the docks I'll be seen,
Just tell me old shipmates, I'm takin' a trip mates,
And I'll see you someday in Fiddler's Green..."

I'm amazed in your knowledge on the entire saga, congrats, very entertaining.
Good news is that Netflix revealed (possibly accidentally) that they have at least one finished bonus episode adapting some of the comic stories that are more tangential to the main plot. More content!
That's why, when I was reading some news about Sandman, they were saying the season had 11 episodes and I got very confused. Is there any release day?
@@matheus10b Not yet. Only word we have so far was some clips from an unreleased episode showing up on one of Netflix’s UA-cam videos.

@@NKO_lindo Also the Calliope one :) but it was just talking.
The Trixie and Katya video its already private so that kinda confirms that its actually over there, they just have to release it
I really enjoyed this whole 10 episode run together with you two as a first time watcher of the channel. In this episode I first thought Clarus had a dress with a blood print suited to the conference (I could only see a little edge) and was a tad disappointed when I realized it was a very pretty floral pattern. Nerdy's insightful comment throughout have confirmed my thoughts on watching (it was 20 years since I read it, so my memory was a bit more hazy at times). I'll be back. Subbed.
you guys should react to "Everything everywhere all at once" it's a once a lifetime move and it has a very passionate fanbase.
Luciene is the Alfred to Morphious Bruce Wayne. Lost without them?
Yes: Spilling family has FAR-Reaching, multi plane consequences.
However, one CAN cause GREAT pain and anguish without the letting of one drop of blood.
Perfect response to someone cheating in dreams:
Come, Martin Tenbones. We must away.
I loved the Eragon deep cut 😆
I loved the comics as a whole and the tv show as a whole. I'm going to comment on some of the differences between the two.
1/ They had to decouple these stories from the rest of DC. That's a pity. (ie. Hippolyta was Wonder Woman's daughter.)
2/ In the comics, Rose's friends in the house are left heavily damaged. This was so much nicer.
3/ The Corinthian pulled the plot together. Big improvement.
4/ Details were changed with the Cereal Con - losing a couple of my favourite scenes: the one where Rose is asking about what do people do with breakfast cereal: do they like eating them, do they just keep the empty boxes.... I missed the characters of Smokey and Dog Soup.
The growth of Dream.as a character 👏🏽
I did indeed get the Eragon reference. It was brilliant there, and it was brilliant here
Claroos will always reference Eragon if she can lol
Almost forgot to say: Enjoy your anniversary!

One more show like these and I'll renew my Netflix subscription ...
No season 2 has not been confirmed netflix has yet to renew the series for a second season, the only confirmation we have had is that allan heinberg confirmed to EW that he is holding writers rooms to work on scrips for a subsequent batch of episodes
First time I ever heard a threatening speech by the devil themself, and my reaction has been "Squeee!"
Are you guys gonna finish the Sandman season 1? It’s not done yet we still got an episode to go.
A (not so) brief defense of Rose: you've mentioned in this and previous videos that you found Rose's character sort of flat and that she played the role of a plot device. I had a pretty different reaction to her character, and I think both the character's actions and the actress's portrayal made a lot of sense.
Rose grew up in a family with significant problems and her parents didn't protect her and Jed from those problems. When the family split up, she was forced to leave Jed behind against her wishes, because she was just a kid herself and had no choice. Her whole character as an adult is about regaining agency in her life and not blindly trusting authority figures around her (e.g., Morpheus or the woman at the foster agency) to have her interests in mind. It doesn't help that she still looks so young and people sometimes treat her as if she's still a kid. (Consider how quickly she corrected Mr. Holdaway when he said she was too young to know the word annulet. That wasn't filler dialogue; that was an example of Rose asserting her own agency against an authority figure treating her, even slightly, like a child.)
In the show, Rose learns about Morpheus much earlier than she did in the comics. She learns what a vortex is and what she can do, and she learns what Morpheus and the Corinthian each want from her. She constantly pushes back against them both and insists that she has the final say in what she's going to do. Even when she agrees to let Morpheus kill her, it's implied that she is powerful enough now to prevent it if she wanted to. Morpheus isn't using his power to kill her, he's trying to convince her to stop going along with the Corinthian's plan. (Compare this to how he removed Hector from the dreaming, mid-conversation because he didn't feel there was a purpose in convincing the others that it should happen.) It's only because Rose decides to die that Morpheus would be able to kill her.
A second major aspect of her character is constant presence of chosen family, which is very common among people who have experienced significant family problems. Rose relies heavily on her friends and they rely on her (in 24/7, Judy calls Rose for help and Rose immediately offers to get more involved; later Rose offers to protect Lyta and her baby against Morpheus despite being thrown into a supernatural situation and not really understanding what that entails). Rose opens up very quickly to Hal and the rest of that household and they care about and support each other, all seeking out chosen family for various reasons. This is the same reason Rose is so quick to accept Unity as family, and rushes in to hug her even as Unity is explaining that she had to manipulate them to coming to England because she thought Rose wouldn't have come otherwise.
I agree that these last three episodes were much more plot-driven than the earlier part of the season, and I get how it could seem like Rose is just there for plot points to bounce off of. But I think she was a fully fleshed out character and extremely well-portrayed consist with that characterization.
Hell looks suspiciously like St. Peter's Square
Great reaction guys!
Thank you!
A season 2 was confirmed? Ah... that just made my day! :-D
Speaking as a watcher only, (no reading of the book) I think they both exist in terms of what Dream said to Desire. Desire wanted to sacrifice his half-human kin to get Dream to commit this kin-slayer action. Dream knows something will happen and it's inferred that it would be bad, but Dream threatens desire that should they come back and fuck with him again he would go through with the act against desire and be damned the consequences that may follow. My thinking is that there is a severe penalty made by the "Creator" that dream references so that they do not fight but after thousands of years its use as a deterrent for violence has waned.
I binged all of your reactions of The Sandman, it's a lot of fun to watch someone with knowledge from the books. You got a new subscriber. Have you ever watched the series "Evil"? Last night was the finale of the third season, and my jaw dropped to the floor. On the topic of future reactions, have you guys ever watched ABC's Once Upon A Time? If not, you should definitely consider it for your channel. Robert Carlyle's performance as Rumpelstiltskin by itself makes the whole show worth watching, but they also did a great job of taking classic fairy tales/folk tales and giving them some really unique twists, all while weaving them together into a collective expansive universe.
That actor was superb. I'm glad I caught a few of the best of that series, but happily bailed when I realized it suffered from the "never-ending / always marketing" syndrome big media insists on giving us.

#justice for Gregory, if you can fix Gault you can fix a cuddlesome gargoyle Dream Lord, be interesting to see how S2 goes, the lack of Supers pretty much rules out "Facade", a shame as more Kirby can only be a good thing, loved s1 start to finish, as a big book fan I was good with all the changes, especially the tidy up of the Lyta/Hector/Jed plot as the book version was all sorts of strange 70s comic book references, and whilst everyone handed in stunning turns for me Mr Holbrook just edges out lovely Mr Fry for the MVP
