When powdering stuff, put a sheet of plastic wrap under the lid to keep all the good stuff in the blender so none of it gets lost in the cap.

I just really adore the tomato powder idea and started dehydrating mine, too, but to use the scraps, the leftovers, is ingenious! Have you tried dehydrating peppers, bell peppers, to turn into powder?? The other day, I ground all the spinach I had dehydrated over the year, got 1 quart of powder. I thought it would be useful for soups, pasta, and Spinach Dip!

...Omg...dehydrated spinach for spinach dip...I think I just went to heaven...!!😍💞 I found out last fall that I'm allergic to lettuce. ...The entire daisy family.😭 No sunflowers or seeds, no Zinnias...the list seems endless.😔 Somehow, it took me all this time to realize that. So, spinach, which I love more than lettuce, will now be a substitute for it whenever it can be. My first dehydrator just arrived on Tuesday, and I can't wait to plant my fall spinach crop, as were in zone 5a. Thank you so much for the idea! Blessings to you!😙💖

@@morningwoodfarms713 im growing a leaf cabbage this year thats quite mild and might make a decent lettuce replacement. Let me run find the packet as its an Asian name and I don't want to misspell it.
Okay found it Chirimen Hakusai I got it through baker creek seeds. Ive pulled a few outer leaves as its growing and its a nice tender leaf.
I am growing in the soil and hydroponically and the hydroponics ones are a bit more tender but its gone dry here in michigan so it makes sense.

I have found that it comes off of the silicone dehydrator sheets better than on the screens. 😁😁 I love BLT’s, but don’t always have fresh tomatoes, so sometimes I mix the tomato power with the mayo. Not as good as the original, but a close second.

Nice as a rethickener if put too much liquid in roux for brown sauce, plus it adds flavor. Mixed with some salt and sprinkled on popcorn, taste like ketchup chips. Add to ground meat for meatloaf to help bind instead of only breadcrumbs (any veggie powder really, not just tomato). Mix in water when cooking rice. Add to flour when making bread, with herbs, garlic powder, etc. Make compound butter.

I am thinking putting tomato powder or perhaps even a spinach powder into something like pasta dough might be something to try. It would not effect the liquid amounts in the recipe but it could still impart the flavor I might be looking for. Thank you for this useful information.

Ive used dehydrated spinach and basil powdered in home made pasta. It works fantastic. Better than the fresh pureed spinach id bet the tomato would be really nice. (Or even carrot or squash powder)
I dont seem to bake or make pasta in summer as much as we do in winter.
I dont have AC other than a portable and baking heats the house up lol.
I do love making pasta tho but I think again its time consuming and the summers are filled with so much stuff to get done. Lol

I have to try this! Actually the last batch of spaghetti sauce I made instead of adding store brought tomato paste I took out a jar of dehydrated roma tomatoes and used that to thicken the sauce. I plan on doing that again here this week to speed along my next batch of sauce canning. I think there are so many things to do with dehydrated tomatoes like this.

Powder tomato, basil and chipotle powder go great in Mayo to put on sandwiches, in cold past salads, as a base for a creamy salad dressing and more. The excluding the Mayo, you use it as a seasoning for eggs, pasta, pizza, added to melted butter and garlic to brush onto toasted bread, and so much more.
I keep powdered mixed greens from the garden to toss into eggs, soups, casseroles, and many other things to add a nutritional boost. Especially those one pot meals where you need more veggies. (Even chili.)

Hi Thank you all your great videos. I have been making tomato powder for a couple of years. I do not like the seeds in powder or my sauce, so I de-seed when I bring them in. I first started with the skins and then ventured to using the full tomato. My tomato's come in late and can be slow, then the rush. I cut in half, de-seed and then pop in the freezer. skins come off really easy, when defrosted, until I have enough to roast. I also make powder using the raw tomato. . I try to grow the larger slicers etc but have not had much luck over the years. Cherry comes in late, slow and then the abundance. There is only the two of us so I make the sauce we will use and then powder the rest. Powder makes great gifts for those without a garden.

Ok, I made some tomato powder a few years ago and it was awesome. Then I started reading it was only good for about 6 month. I have questioned that but several canning people on youtube have said the same thing. I didn't have the heart to throw it out, but I just assumed since it was fully dehydrated and powdered that it would last for many years just like the other vegetables that I have dehydrated. What are you thoughts??

If stored properly it will last for many years. You can also vacuum seal it into the jars and it'll be perfectly fine. The government doesn't want you to be self-sufficient so they post a lot of scare tactics. 🍀

In my experience, fully dehydrated food doesn't really "go bad" so much as the flavor and nutritional value eventually degrades. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt you to eat it or anything, but eventually it will have less "punch" and maybe start to taste stale. Interested to hear other thoughts on this, but that's what I've observed with my own dehydrated food. 😊

I just made a batch of tomato powder and the flavor is great. My only issue is I've run it through the dehydrator for several hours and then ground it up in my blender. Afterwards, the powder was still sticky and, after having sat in the jar for a few hours, clumped together. I ran it through the dehydrator again (for 12 hours) in its powder form (placed in several coffee filters) but the texture is the same. Also, I placed a desiccant package in the jar with the powder. Is this the way it's supposed to be?

I’m betting that tomato powder would be pretty amazing on popcorn with melted butter and salt. I am going to make your tomato powder and give it a try. Yummy! On pasta 🍝

I take tomatoes and blend the whole thing and then dehydrate until it's of a cracker consistency. Once it's there, I just throw it in my magic bullet and shake while blending to get everything. This is amazing on rice and pasta. I want to see about using it as part of a dry rub. Add this to melted butter to get the richest tomato soup style flavor and pour over veggies as well.

Wow! That's amazing! I've never heard of using tomato powder! Wonder if it would be good to add to a soup or a vegetable smoothie kind of thing? Can you mix it with water or another liquid to make tomato juice? I'm gobsmacked! I love tomatoes! Great video!

You can also dehydrate tomato slices with basil and Parmesan on them. So yummy! Like chips.

Such a great idea... just one question - did you include the stem plug in the tomato powder?

I also have a processor and “steam my tomatoes “ before the processor. I’m wondering if the seeds are still good to use for next years crop of tomatoes and would I be able to use my dehydrator to help drying the seeds. Any success doing this?
