Drifter D I am Indian and like most Asian parents they are sensitive about money and constantly haggle me on my hotwheels collecting habits what about your parents? Do they support your hobby?
Drifter D As usual.. love your vids :D ..but maybe i got a valuable tipp 4 you ^^ . Just take a brush and some nail polish remover with aceton, brush over the glue and you will get the car out without damage to the card .. aaaand you can put it back in everytime and glue it back together ^^
That is exactly what I do. I always have my cars open and loose so I can give all my adoration and love for the cars I have. I do keep the car cards to remember what it is and see the nice card art they can have. I REFUSE to have the cars locked in the packaging because that would defeat the purpose of me buying it really.
Goated comment here. Recently started buying "investment cars" like jdms, lbwks and others but it doesn't feel as exciting when I'm buying the cars that I truly loved.
@@justinterry7853 I hear you 100%. My most personally valued cars are ones that have been played, or new, but sit on my desk or on shelves and ledges in my office. Seeing them. Touching them. Running them up on tracks when my toddler nephew comes over. That's where it matters.
In Finland average price of the Hot Wheels car is 3 €, which is about 3.5 $. Here taxes are always already included in the price so no math calculations needed.
Love how matchbox has those mini boxes . You can open the car and put it back in the mini card box . Very cool and it doesn’t take up much room . Also very nice art work on the matchbox cards . Very good thing .
I crack em all wide open haha doesn’t matter if they’ve been in the package 20 years! My intention is to put a display case on my wall some day. In the meantime, if I can’t fit it in jammers, I put it in a tote box for later, when I can display it properly:)

I am a loose collector however before I open the package I take pictures of the front and back of the card. Then I take the cars and display them on a shelf I have.
I just recently started collecting and I've tend to keep them carded if the card is worth it. Ex: I bought the 3rd Gen Camaro and absolutely love the design so it will stay carded.
You know I always had the same problem. To open or not to open, on one hand, its a lot easier to store or display an open car I think. It's also a lot more fun.
I’ve just started collecting since August of 2017 so I only have about 200 or so cars-I’ve been keeping them carded displayed on a 4 foot by 2 foot pegboard with molding to hold them into place. I will probably open most of them soon with Acetone to keep the blister and cards nice. I like your saying: “Value what you collect!” Get your full enjoyment out of your cars!
+Weekend Warrior I see, nice!! Hehe yup, that's my motto :) If you'd like, I have my own way of opening cars that you might like. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/sMMDKWI37jE/v-deo.html
I am mostly a loose collector but sometimes I keep them boxed if I like how they look. Also I like mounting some on my walls behind my open collection to add a little aesthetic to the display to feel more complete. I also keep some boxed if it’s something I could trade or sell to pay for more of my hobby. Something that is valuable to someone else could pay for more for me to enjoy. So look at it this way sometimes I collect value to be able to afford more that I value to collect.
i used to have alot of hotwheels as a kid sadly dont have anymore but i recently started buying them again im (26) and i love them i agree 100% with your last point why buy one with the mind set of reselling i hate it when people do that love your videos!!
My son and I display the premium cars but everything else gets opened for one reason only....the reason they were made, to race them and go fast! We sell the ones that are to slow and motivates us to keep buying newer castings to see which is faster from our top 5. It allows us to keep hunting and not worry about space for displaying them.
As a collector I would NEVER want to sell my collection, so doesn't matter if I lose value by opening the card package, also better for clicking good pictures of your collection.
The idea of cutting the blister without damaging the card and you can put the car back in anytime you want is great, thank you for the idea, i just started collecting
Great great video! I do collect cause I love Hw brand but also I was trying to invest on a hugh interesting collection to talk about and make history about, now I'm trying to keep some cars in package and some loose
Most cars are a buck. They are only worth what someone will pay.... so play or if you want pay... the best part of car collecting is its your way...lol
I have a lot of unopened Hot Wheels sitting in my bedroom because I want to get my room painted before I open them. I always open my cars when I want to display them. Great video btw! :)
*Don't collect for the value Value what you collect* Well said sir. So true. I've never collected for the value and never will, no matter what I collect. And I collect alot and I mean alot of stuff lol. I will always collect for the love of the collection.
I've been collecting carded so far, but today I bought a duplicate HW car (1986 Toyota Van) purely to open it and examine the car and the feeling of holding the car, looking it over in 360 is so much more satisfying. As nice as carded cars look, on Instagram I've seen some impressive garage-like displays of people's loose cars and it just looks great. I do think they're meant to be freed from their boxes.
I bought 2 hot wheels a couple days ago when I just got into collecting and I have about 60 hotwheels from 2003-2011 when I was little. I bought 4 more today and I'm now keeping them carded and hung up in my closet until I buy a peg board to display them on
I was actually a lose collecter but then I chose the the carded side. The reason why I chose the carded side is because of how much safe they can be inside. I live in a country which is extremely humid, which tends to rust the axles of the cars which will eventually lead to many problems so that's why I keep them inside the card. Btw awesome video as always!
Great video yet again Drifter! I'm personally a carded collector not due to its value but really just like to enjoy looking at them. I've played with them last time when I was younger and I still have a substantial amount of loose cars in my collection. Though the value of the carded cars would help in the future if I ever needed some desperate money... Haha
+UnTouchGamingHD Same here, I used to have alot of loose cars because I played them on tracks but now, they _are_ still loose but I dont play with them so they are mint and I can sell them off too if I ever needed some money 🤔
6:51 🤯🤯🤔🤔 thank you for that kind sir, you’ve given me a diff way of looking at not only collecting cars but everything else I collect indubitably. Never scalped anyone cuz of the amount of times I have before 😔 didn’t want to before that either. Sometimes just cool to b able to find something I find cool and has value that someone else that truly loves whatever it is wants it and being able to sell it to them for the same I bought it for and the joy they get is like no other. Hotwheels, skateboards, shoes, tech decks (yea I kno I’m a loser) discontinued after market car parts 😂🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
I have been collecting a lot over the last year or two. I have mostly just been collecting Mazda matchbox and hotwheels. I started by collecting loose, but then I started collecting multiple coppies to have one loose and one carded, and now Ive just been keeping them carded other than multipack exclusive cars.
I now keep them carded and hung because the display cases are more money, especially for the nicer ones. I opened up a few when I was younger but now am okay with admiring them from a case.
I fixed my urge for loose collecting. I do Both. I keep loose ones in clear cases of the ones I really like. So yeah, I have two of allot of cars but that's what makes me Happy. It is all about what makes you Happy. Obviously I can not buy two of everything, I too love to hold them and get the real deal of collecting. And if I know I have a valuable one it stays in the blister pack, and yes I got boxes of cars everywhere. I keep the ones in protector packs in clear bins. I will find plastic containers for em. Btw u almost to 1k, been following u quite a while and decided to come outta the shadows recently....
+Kevin Gan I see, glad to hear that my way of opening cars helped you with your collection in a way 😊 Thanks for the support man. I do love getting comments and reading them but either way, comments or no comments, I appreciate it as long as you watch my videos 😊
to make less damage to the box, i prefer putting nail polish remover/acetone to the box (at the back of the plastic cover of the hotwheels). and if you want to resell it, just glue the plastic back to the box (obviously with the car in it) then resell it. you knife technic seems to be hard if you're going to glue it back
For collector cars I keep them loose in a jammer with tissue stuffed in it so they dont rattle around and I keep the card in a bin. Other mainline just get tossed in a jammer and I track test them. I trade cars to my friend when I get sick of them. I would never sell them.
I’m loving your videos dude! I went out this morning and got 15 cars to start my collection at the dollar general! No th or sup but I’m not having any high expectations!
When I started collecting hot wheels in 1999 i opened my cars but by 2000 i became a carded collector. I have 6,442 carded diecast cars. 1,529 of my cars are loose.
Personally, I open the Hotwheels but leave the blisters on the shelf in the locker, so I can get informations about specific models at any time. I try to open the blisters with a nail polish remover so I don't damage them too much.
I keep my 1/64 scale cars carded personally. They are just so small and fragile, and have beautiful artwork like you mentioned. On the other hand, my 1/18 cars come in boring af boxes that I throw away after purchase. There's no cool art, no valuable information. It's just a car in a box. But for HotWheels and the like I really feel like the card adds meaning to it. Nice video.
I do 1 of 4 things, keep some cars loose that aren’t cool or rare, open the car but cut out the part of the card with the art,use nail polish remover and open it smoothly and if something is valuable rn or in the future like the buggatis I don’t open them at all
very good point, you shouldn't try and make money from it and just enjoy you're cars, im definetly going to buy a lot of hothweels on top of the large amount i already have, i love them
I just put them in display cases..I put the card on the wall of the display case, with car in front..I m never going to sell hopefully it becomes a family piece thru the years
Can I ask you if I keep it in a drawer will it scratch the hot wheels because I have the biggest hot wheels garage but I have no more space so will it scratch the cars because I have a lot of expensive cars
i damn agree with your last point, i die die wont sell my any Hotwheels cars(including fancy cars), i dunno why in Malaysia here many of them consider the second hand value lol
Old video but I need your advice!! I have a 72 Mercedes Benz 280 SEL 4.5 car culture and I want to play with the car but I love the packaging should I try to open it using the cutting method and completely remove the blister or keep it like yours?
i like to keep my hand on them. cz what's the meaning if u collect without even thouching them.. lol... i collect because they so cute and pretty im not collecting to show somone 😂 but i collect cards they looks great
Thank you so 'come brother I show you ' Brother I recently started collecting die cast cars But was cautious to uncard them... I am going to value them for being in my collection... I am going to have long lasting relationship ❤️
Another fact. If you want the card fresh without any problem (ex. Using a knife to cut open the car) or damaged, use acetone (Chemical (dunno it’s illegal to other countries)) behind the blister. Its pretty easy to use and it doesn’t damage the card. Here’s the video i found! (Drifter D commented there) ua-cam.com/video/u6boerzXMro/v-deo.html
On the value comment, here is another way of looking at it. If you will never get rid of it, or rather if you want to keep it forever, the value is literally worthless! Price doesn't mean anything unless it is paid, so just open and enjoy the cars you know you want forever!
The only thing i dont like about being a loose collector is that i might scratch it up. Also, my son is more willing to grab a car and play with it haha
I buy cars i like and keep them i the card, but some cars are already kind a valueble (30 dollar) those cars im selling, and from the money i get from the car i sold, i buy new ones
I always opened my cars when I was younger. Sometimes I open a modern model hotwheel. I have certain cars that were opened back in the day that are worth more than most of my carded cars and I also have unopened stuff that I love...although this one guy just got $1,023.50 for his "2003 Limited Edition World Race Complete Set" and it's still sealed all around. I plan to open the box up carefully of course, but keep the cars in the packs. 😎(video soon) Full honesty, opening the cars and enjoying at a young age creates a lifestyle and I have that and millions of work hours to thank. I didn't get it for its value or because I "earned" it. I got it because I watched that movie ALOT since I was 8 and I DESERVE it. I know everything about the series and even the damn script. I was overwhelmed with AWESOME and those movies STILL do their justice. MASTERPIECES. Not bragging, I've owned 6 vehicles already in the first 2 years after highschool. An 81 Trans Am, 79 Camaro, 79 Firebird as my favorites and other stuff like 95 BMW, Grand Cherokee, 99 3000GT(for sale). I'm getting me a very sweet car for this summer whether it's a mid 70s Stingray, Pontiac Le Mans (71-72), or a certain '69 Plymouth Road Runner that I can finance as of now which I most obsessively will and to thank HotWHeeLs again for my sturdy, bad boy lifestyle.
I hope this video helped you guys out :) This took me a long time to make, thats why it's been over a month since I made episode 1 so id appreciate it if you leave a like to let me know that my effort to put out this video is appreciated 😊

I personaly like using nail polish remover and keep the card intact and when im done looking at it and fiddling with it I can put it back in the card
So true, other avenues to invest in, not diecast toys.
I just put them in display cases..I put the card on the wall of the display case, with car in front..I m never going to sell hopefully it becomes a family piece thru the years
Cant believe i saw this videos on my timeline. 😂 Shock this from 5 years ago but nvm, im always support your content.
Thank you for watching bro! Crazy to think this was 5 years ago.. :,)
@@DrifterD yah. You look so different this time and this show me how biggest improvement you have made. Keep it going bro!
I agree with you because I love playing with my cars
In Australia the cost is $2 at target and $3 at supermarkets and $8 for premium series
1:13 relatable 🫡
I found some card protecto CREASE corners
I Always by 2 play with one and put one up
Old video but I need your advice!! I have a 72 Mercedes Benz 280 SEL 4.5 car culture and I want to play with the car but I love the packaging should I try to open it using the cutting method and completely remove the blister or keep it like yours?
I especially love your last point about scalpers. It is so much work for little reward. They should just get a real job and invest in something else.
7:11 *MK4 Supra owners laughing inside*
i like to keep my hand on them. cz what's the meaning if u collect without even thouching them.. lol... i collect because they so cute and pretty im not collecting to show somone 😂 but i collect cards they looks great
Your videos are wonderful and very informative great job 👏
I use the cards to make wall art frames. Recycle as much as I can.
Loose and make a freaking good custom!!
Good video ;]
+DimplyBuffalo 51 Thanks 😉
I enjoyed this video :) A collector that enjoys his collection. I LOVE the "caged and free" metaphor. Free! Haha
Glad you enjoyed it! Haha yea that's just my opinion. It's *our* collection in the end of the day
Thank you so 'come brother I show you '
Brother
I recently started collecting die cast cars
But was cautious to uncard them...
I have a question is HOT WHEELS POWER PANEL TRUCK is a fantasy car or inspired by real truck model? Thanks
Im Just waiting for when I have alot of carded cars and open it all at the same time I find That really Nice
The only thing i dont like about being a loose collector is that i might scratch it up. Also, my son is more willing to grab a car and play with it haha
I wouldn't want my cars in a box because they'll get scratched. I keep mine in a carry case!
Try using nail polish remover to open the cards it damages the card less
Buy four
1 loose
1 carded
1 for trade
And one extra
I like both, if they have the normal box, I take them out, but if its like the forza ones or something like that I keep them inside
Maybe, you can buy two of the same cars, keep one carded, and keep one loose. This is what another UA-camr is doing, so credits to them.
Yea but I buy the nascar and indy car diecasts which are like 20 dollars and I dont have that kind of money for 2 of them
I collect them and take them out, but I have every single package still, so it is always save and I have all the info
if i hear "It's up to you" one more time about this i'm gonna scream
_wat_
it’s up to you
It’s up to you
I buy 2 of each car I want - 1 for the card and one for loose. Sometimes I buy 3 with one for customs
I buy cars i like and keep them i the card, but some cars are already kind a valueble (30 dollar) those cars im selling, and from the money i get from the car i sold, i buy new ones
I collect for the fun of showing them loose an restore them too.thats the fun part.
Use nail polish remover to open it
I always opened my cars when I was younger.
Really Good information. Just subscribed!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wish I can meet you someday ! LOL
Good video man!! Keep up the videos
I like both but sometimes I just dont like it when they got scratched
