i used to do the same before but i only buy one lately since new ones are becoming hard to find from the pegs here. scalpers and hoarders always reach the pegs first (sometimes even way before the cards reach the pegs) 😔
I've been collecting for around 21 years, I don't buy anything thinking I can make money down the road on it, I buy what I like. I mostly get American Muscle Cars, or if something really looks cool.
Trucks cool but try matchbox buy them in stores cause online they be good amount cheaper in store dollar cause this truck is so detalles said that wrong I think but yep try matchbox
@@justinrobertson4809 matchbox has come a long way, I find myself buying one here and there. Usually it's a vehicle I've never seen in hot wheels. Got a street cleaner the other day that had good detail.
I've been collecting for 32 years. I buy what I like, not because it might be valuable some day. If something happens to be rare and worth a lot more than I paid, bonus! Like my Park 'n Plates yellow VW Bug or the California Custom 67 Camaro I took out of the package years ago, it still makes me happy! love this hobby. Thanks Mike 👍✌
“Yes” I also buy what I like. There may be a set of eight cars but if I only like two of them I only buy the two I like. I’m not buying six extra cars I don’t like just to have a set. I only have so much money and even less room to store them. 👍
I’m 37 now, I collected for probably 15+ years, and within the last year I have pretty much quit because of the greed in the secondhand market along with many encounters I’ve had with greedy old rude men who act like it’s heroin to find a stupid children’s toy in a grocery store. I have quite a few stories over the past couple years, but it completely killed the joy of collecting for me. Now I have thousands of these cars that are either collecting dust in my storage unit or I hand them out to kids. I now find more joy in taking some unopened treasure hunts to kids in my neighborhood or young family or friends and explaining to them what treasure hunts are and then giving them a handful of them to either keep or open and play with. I guess I still found a way to get some happiness out of my collection but there’s people out there that are downright disgusting over these things and it completely killed it for me personally. I do enjoy telling those greedy old men about how I hand out my treasure hunts to kids now so they can rip them open and play with them though lol.
I collect since 2010. I started collecting because I was a car enthusiast. I love pre-world war luxurious classic cars, big semi-trucks, emergency vehicules, exotics and muscle cars! This hobby is fun because at 1/64 scale you can pretty much get any kind of vehicule you want without breaking the bank (well, unless you look for very sought after cars or expensive vintage models like redlines). Something impossible if you collect 1/18 cars. I know most of my collection isn't gonna be worth a lot of money, but I don't collect for money, I collect because of my passion for cars! :) The key is simple : buy what you like and makes you happy, and what your budget can afford you're in bussiness. And if somehow one day some pieces in your collection are valuable and rare, that's a plus! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this subject Mike!
Well said, Mike! The "Motto" I follow myself is "Value what you collect, don't collect based on value". Every time I make a purchase I feel more proud and excited about my personal collection. Nowadays there are soooo many companies that create beautiful die cast vehicles; what a fantastic time to collect cars! 🤘
I personally like to keep my hot wheels carded, it preserves the value better as well as provides nostalgia. Seeing the outdated card, with the hot wheel preserved in it’s original packaging is like a time capsule to me. I’m not against opening them either, especially since most of the cars were meant to be played with.
He posted this video in 2020. He says he's been collecting Hot Wheels for 52 years. So that would go back to 1968. 1968 was the year Hot Wheels was introduced. I was 11 years old in '68 and I can tell you we played the hell out of Hot Wheels when they came out, but none of us ever thought of them as collectors items.
Well said Mike!!! I see hotwheels as a form of art dedicated to man's love of transportation. Either a person gets it or not. Those who get it...love the cool factor. I am constantly in awe on the art form on the packaging. Happy collecting!
I recently started within the past year and a half. I open all my cars just cause I love having them out of package and out on display. It's crazy cause I never really noticed how many collectors there are. I'm always running into people in the hotwheels/matchbox section lol
He's exactly right. As a hobby, you should collect whatever way makes you happy. That's what I've always done. If they go up in value, that's icing on the cake. There always seems to be a lot of discussion on loose versus sealed in package hot wheels. Many of mine are neither though. I used to open my hot wheels, but kept the package to put them back into. So I have quite a few (Including vintage) that are nice condition in their original package, but it's been opened. I would like to hear his or others opinion on that. Also, regarding what hot wheels will go up in value: With so many collectors and dealers saving and hoarding newer hot wheels in their package, (which wasn't done as much in redline era ) , I don't think most of the newer mainlines will go up in value much except possibly treasure hunts. But neo classics, 68 series, redline club, classics series, cool classics, Larry's Garage , Boulevard, limited edition's, and other series that were aimed at the adult collector with lesser destribution I can see going up. Some already have. Whether the vintage redlines will continue to go up as they have I am uncertain. As the baby boomers age, logic dictates that prices on some of those will level off or drop. Unless younger collectors come in and take their place. Would like to hear others opinons on that too..
i don't ever really plan to sell mine, i buy what i like because i like them. i like to open them out the package and put them in a display case in my room.
Thats exactly what i do! I have even opened ones that may have been valuable in the future, but it doesnt really matter if you are not planning to sell
What I love about this hobby is how we all do things differently. I love to meet new collectors and see their collections and how they display or keep them. I collect not only hotwheels but wrestling and other various action figures. I have some of them in package and some I rip and grip after I buy them. Do what makes you happy and embrace and appreciate those that do it differently. You never know you may pick up a new hobby habit or reinforce one you already have. Who knows you may even make a new friend along the way. Thanks for this video. I enjoy all the videos you post.keep it up!!!
Mike you explain it perfect. It’s just a hobby.I been collecting, hot wheels, baseball cards, coin’s, G.I. JOE’s . I never once thought about making money to sell one day..For me it’s about the joy of collecting.. I never sold one thing,, I to give more away. It’s seems to be more fun..and I 60 years old. I still having fun collecting..
IMHO. Just started collecting. I keep my cars in package. But when i decide to open one, that is a different story. I am getting so much pleasure when i open the package, can`t describe how is it. So it is just a hobby. Enjoy it! Don`t get greedy :)
I just got into collecting Hot wheels again and I stumbled across your video. You remind me so much of my grand father’s with the way you speak and how are straight up with people this was a great video and thank you for reminding me of him have a great day 😄
Good advice. I think most of us look at the investment angle to justify spending on these cars. If you aren't spending the rent you're good, just enjoy. BTW I'm with her. "Tear it Open!"
Yeah Brother, you and I think a lot alike as far as the Hot Wheels lifestyle. We know it has mostly to do about the sweet memories we had of these when we were kids - and it feels great to feel like a kid again. And it DOES make me happy again, even at 61 years old!!
I agree, we get into this hobby (most the time after we stopped as a child or young man) to enjoy what we are doing. Customizing is something I like, some like my work and I’m sure some don’t. I had people say “hey you can sell this for good money” and I laugh and say “well, maybe to you, how much you want to give me?” I do it because I like it. Back into the hobby now fir a little over two yrs. my collection is 500+ of a very specific kind “what I like”. My son’s collection is over 2000 of “everything he can get his hands on” but that’s what he likes. Good collecting to all of you and pick up one of Mike’s books, it will make collecting that much more fun and I guarantee you’ll buy another, there’s that much information in them!
Great video Mike! I've been collecting 30+ years. The hobby has changed since the rise of Ebay. Easy to find what you want as long as you wanna pay. I find more joy getting cars off of pegs for a buck. Collect what you like, if you're lucky buy 2! If you're not having fun or going broke, STOP.
Agreed! Anybody with big bucks can buy a collection and think they're a collector, but like me after 32 years of searching for what I have gives me a real sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that no amount of money can buy! Love this Hobby.
Supply and Demand! That's exactly why I spent $740.00 on the Hot Wheels RLC 50th Anniversary Original 16 Replica Set only 1,500 made! Everyone in my family thought I was crazy but I'll show them! Even if there were 50,000 of them made it would still be priceless to me simply because of the memories they bring back!
The good thing out of what you’re saying is the honesty that’s what’s great about you if that’s what you love if that’s what you’re into. It’s your money. It’s your life. Enjoy it. That’s what I tell my kids.
I prefer collecting them in cards and not loose. Not for the re-sell value though. It's because when it's on the package, You get to see the name of the car, the card art and the mint condition of the actual car. I find it hard to maintain the hobby if I were to set them loose. Because of graphics on some cars, and some missing tempos, I have no idea what's the name of the car unless I see the name at the bottom. Not only that, paint chip issue and rust will happen if you do not maintain them correctly. More money needed to buy storage equipments for loose cars. Personal experience: Opened up some hotwheels, roll around for awhile and I found myself not looking at them anymore.
What I really liked about this video is, Mike hammers home the idea that there is no right or wrong way to collect. I have been guilty of questioning why people keep their cars in packets. But like Mike says, the cars are more valuable depending on how you want to collect them. I always open mine, because for me, the fun is racing them, not so much displaying. But some people like displaying, and they do look cooler in their packets. There is no right or wrong!
Mike I used to own a NASCAR collectibles store. People would buy cars or not buy cars based on some guide book. I always told people use the book for insurance value if you insure the collection. Years ago a man saw me sorting through a dump bin at K-B Store Store and asked me if the cars should stay in the package. I told him its an individual thing but if a child finds it and wants to play with it then let him/her open it -" It's a toy!" - let the kids have fun with it. Overall, if you want to invest buy Apple stock or a mutual fund. Habbies should not be investments. They are meant to be fun so make the most of it and don't worry about value.
We love collecting Myself and my 7 Grandkids live for it Hot Wheels has created so many memories and smiles Its such an amazing thing and to share it with them doesn't get any better.
I like the ones that are missing tires, windshield, and even the body of the cars got the bottom of the car but no top and sealed from the factory! Those are cool.
Im in to collectin die cast monster trucks and I love the green light kings of crunch a couple months ago I went to hobby lobby on a hunt and I found the maiden american and I noticed the front grill on the truck was missing so I looked on the bottom of the package and there was the grill laying in the package so I bought it I'm thinking it was a factory error and possibly the only one like it but I put it in my collection to add pride value
I've started slowly collecting various diecast cars. If it's a car I find interesting, I'll pick it up. The whole supply and demand situation is exactly what happened to the comic book industry boom and bust of the 90s and early 2000's. Same with Beanie Babies ect.
4:51 hi! many lucid information you gave me here, thanks! but the one i appreciate the most: "i have one of everything in a package".... because i have douths when to open a package or not! Regards from Brazil!🎉
Throwing my 2 cents in: If you want a 'chance' at making a potential profit in collecting Hot Wheels, always go for the vintage stuff. Late 60s, 70s & up to mid 80s era HW and their sets, still in their package (the better the condition, the better in potential sales) and rarity, all contribute to how much you can sell or buy them. There is absolutely a way to make money in this hobby, but it's a lot of hard work at the end of the day, and not many have the means or capability to make it their full time job.
Yeah that's a good bet. The vintage stuff has only gone up over the years. Some prices are so high I almost wonder if they've peaked. Some of the baby boomers are dying off now, will that make less demand in the future or will younger collector's fill the void ?
I liked how this video says just collect and keep how you will enjoy the most, whatever way you collect, its right for you, I always think should i have kept the packet, but personally i prefer to see my models in a cabinet and as for value yes its nice if they are worth something, but as i have no intention of selling, the visual is more pleasing than a value.
I can really admire a perfectly crisp, sharp cornered, and unwarped package. Hella underrated cause you know the owner did their upmost to maintain it.
I only collect jdm hotwheels. EG sti, evos, GTR, etc. it’s unbelievable the different variations i find in these cars. I love collecting these little treasures. I don’t buy for valuations i just love the hunt.
It sometimes scares me, coz I'm a collector as well as a customizer, so it always concerns me when I drill that first rivet or when I crack open the blister on some...
My friend did that when the Real Rider Series came out back in 1995! He drilled out all he could find for for the wheels for customs! Ya never know....
Hey mike. No disrespect meant but yours sounds like more than just a hobby. Sounds more like a way of life. I live the car culture and am a collector too. Have kept collecting while raising a family for a lot of years. Not an easy thing to do sometimes, but very fulfilling for a busy mind. Have fun and collect on, life is too short anyway!
I collect because I like cars, and I mainly buy the ones based on real cars. Some of the fantasy cars look cool and are unique, so I'll pick them up now and then. I don't seriously look for the Super Treasure Hunts. I could happen upon one day, but I buy the cars I like and cars I see on the roads. Customizing is fun, too. I just got into that. I've had Hot Wheels (opened and unopened) since I was a kid. I'm 24 now. They're fun cars. Make collecting/playing what you want. Yes, there are rare ones worth a bunch of money, but they are needles in the haystack. Do what you want, have fun, and OPEN SOME! Play with your TOY CARS! :)
Thank you for what you do and I can appreciate your knowledgeable base and you being very frank about it. I also am a collector because I just love cars, trucks that look cool, futuristic or historic. I concur with you that Hot Wheels also brings happiness out of me, and they have been consistent from the 1968 sweet sixteen. I know you would know these. Some I keep in the package 📦 and others I too play with, race with and just enjoy shining the out of package ones with diecast metal liquid wax. That keeps them looking like they are still in the package and it makes the Hot Wheels cars finger print and dust resistant. It's my hobby! I started a Hot Wheels Club in a local private school in NC. Its been successful for about two years. Had to put it on pause until the epidemic blows over. Love them Hot Wheels! Thanks for sharing. BP
I started buying them to save in the package when I was about 12. I opened some for fun, but I didn't have to make them all go around the track, so I didn't have any problem saving them in the package so they wouldn't get scratched up. Even though they haven't turned out to be a good investment, I don't regret it.
I only wish I was as smart as you as a kid, because I began collecting in 1968 when they first came out. I was 10 then and I had almost all the early ones from the first three years. Can you imagine if had saved them all in their original packages ? I'd be rich today. I played with them, and raced them, but I knew enough to be gentle with them and not have them crash. However I never thought of keeping the packages until later when I resumed collecting again as an adult. Luckily, I still have some of my childhood hot wheels and most remained in nice condition.
For you being a historian I can understand why you would want to keep them in the packaging. I open everything and only have duplicates if I buy a bulk lot at Goodwill, thrift store or garage sale. I belong to a few Die cast groups on Facebook and this always pops up and the answer is always buy what you like don't worry about making money off of a dollar car. Great video!
It's all up to the collector and how they like to collect! I have tons of loose stuff too and try to display what I can and of course displaying carded stuff id really hard. Thanx for the note!
There was a time where i couldn't open *any* of my carded Hot Wheels. But having opened various multipacks in the last year or so, i found out that i enjoyed opening cars and viewing them from all angles. For the mainlines at least, i try to have one loose and one in the package: That way i can keep track at what year each model came out. But it's important to write down and make lists of what you collect, it's impossible to remember hunderds or thousands of cars. And there's no right or wrong in the way *you* collect really. Each one has his/her own way. Thanks for this video.
I just started liking and collecting these at age 47 .. I have a collection of 15 cars mainline . Dang I wish I could visit just to get one car from the best Hotwheels Historian there is .
I absolutely love hot wheels and everything that the brand stands for! Me being a young collector, it pains me to see some individuals getting into this hobby just to make money smh love the flame because it brings you nostalgia and joy!!!! 😁👍🏽🔥
I didn't realize Joe Pesci knew so much about Hot Wheels. ;-) I'm just busting your chops. This was very informative. I still have my cars from my childhood. I passed them down to my younger brother as he acquired more cars. We still have them. I collect off and on to this day. Thank you for doing what you do and sharing it with us. Much respect.
I started collecting hotwheels in 1977, just kept collecting out of habit. I've never sold any, have more than I want to count. Never dreamed people would be paying the crazy money I see them sell for. I started leaving them in the package around 1990 or so.
I recently started collecting Hot Wheels and decided that I am only collecting a certain brand of car, livery car, and cars I just like. If I run into a treasure hunt or super yeah I will pick it up but I am also not going to gate keep the others on the shelf.
I collect hotwheels loose and in the package Mike zarnock. I collect hotwheels because I love hotwheels. I don't collect hotwheels to think I'm gonna make lots of money on them in the future. I collect just about everything out there in hotwheels and I will be collecting hotwheels for the rest of my life. 👍
Hi Samuel! I love Hot Wheels as well! It's a passion that I'll always have. Real cars or toy cars, makes me happy and looking forward to the next best thing! ✌
Well I got a lot of hotwheels(300+ cars, and some good collections) since my mom work in a company that sell toys. I like hotwheels and always wanted more. Well now I ady 20 yo, I just keep them as model cars to sometimes admiring the designs of them
First time I've watched you and now subscribed. Found it odd you mentioned s10 and cyclone trucks because I bought a s10 cyclone hotwheel today lol. I had to quit trying to collect all hotwheels. Now I just buy whatever catches my eye that I like. I'm much happier with the cars I do have now.
It's all about collecting what makes you happy! You don't need to have everything or the most expensive unless that's what you want! It's a hobby and it's supposed to be a fun thing.
Awesome to have seen this video made even though i didnt expect it. he does give a lot info and clear as can be for anyone to understand. it like anything else people collect, it all supply and demand. like with comics, funko and anything else, if a lot are made then the value is what u are willing to pay for it at time. i by chance have doubles of cars and some i dont. i may never sell any and keep in pack and rest can give to fam kids to see them enjoy having something may not get later. so really awesome and cool he made things as clear as possible as to how he does things and to how the cars have any value in pack or lose anytime. i know i use to play with one as kid but think lost it for any reason later. have so many now and different ones for any reason.
I am going to be 53yrs old and I still buy Hotwheels & Matchbox cars lol, My wife & I started collecting in 95 when the 4 cars series started, It was about the hunt to get all the cars in the series, never got into it for the $ though. I don't even know how many cars we have and haven't been buying much for the last 8 or 10yrs but there are cars I just have to have when I see it lol. I know I have cars that are worth $ but most I would be lucky to get a quarter apiece for them. I always liked the Johnny Lightning Cars, even as a kid they were my favorites and I have a lot of the big sets they had in the 90's.
I love collecting, cards, toys, etc. Lots of people burnt out becos they want quick profit from the hobby. My rules of thumb, buy what you like, and like what you buy... if it doesnt give you profit, it will still give you satisfaction
Loved this video! I've always looked at my collection as little pieces of artwork. The packages are frames and therefore to me it becomes a little difficult to open. I am more than aware that what I have will never make back or more than what I've spent and I most likely will keep what I have. But to me a nice straight card and blister make a world of difference.
i specifically collect station wagons hot wheels and matchbox. I've got 5 that are not station wagons. i agree with you about collecting what makes you happy. I'm partial to the old's vista-cruiser as it was the first wagon i did a full resto on back in the early 90s. wagons are just part of my persona.
@@HotWheelsTV yeah its hard to find wagons as they are just not popular. i also dig the deliveries. i have had to broaden my horizons so i started picking up SUVs that are not main stream as the plain jane ones are everywhere.
on this side of the planet, carded ones (especially with mint cards) fetch a higher price and those hard-to-find ones almost costs more. "hoarders" all the time buy a lot of carded ones and sell them later at a higher price since none are left from the pegs anymore. if i am lucky, i can still find one that i like, but in that case in only happens once or twice out of ten times i visit the pegs from toy stores here. 😔
This is really "another world of collecting". Thank you for showing this. 2 years ago, I started to buy Hot Wheels (not sure if it calls "collect") because I heard that so-called JDM cars are very valuable. So i tried to get everything what I see with letter "J" and some other series. I got near 40+ cars , part of them opened , part sealed. Recently, I tried to sell them , making bit money, asking only 2.50 for each. Disappointingly, zero interest in them. Either people collect some other ways, or some other cars. I probably should've buying retro muscle cars instead.....
I have a number of collecting guides for model cars on UA-cam. I too am amazed at some of the ridiculous prices that I see, especially from sellers in Japan. I wonder, like you, that somebody will accidentally or someone uniformed will click on it and end up buying it. I always note that a commodity is only worth what is being asked, if someone buys it.
Mike thank you so much for this video. I have shared it with every one in my circle of Hot Wheels friends! I have what my wife would call a horde of Hot Wheels. Cars that I especially like I will get multiples off, cars that I do not have I will at least get one of. As far as carded, if I really like a car it will stay carded and some cars I really don't even like that much if the artwork on the card is really cool I will keep that one carded. Sometimes to me the artwork on the card is so much cooler than the car itself!!! People should just remember these are actually kids toys so please at least open one or two to play with!!!!
The sad thing about never opening a Hot Wheels car .... is you will never know how good it is. Some cars that look fantastic struggle on a track. Some cars fly down a track. I'm the kind of guy who needs to know how hot the wheels really are.
I've always said... You can't fall in love with a toy unless you play with it! I've played with Hot Wheels for 56 years now... when I was a kid, with my kids and now with my granddaughters! I have 1000's of loose cars!
My collection is in box and merely a set of ‘cars I have owned or would want to own’ anything I thought was neat as a kid. Lots of 80-90s American and JDM stuff mainly. But is what it is. I appreciate super rare ones. But for me it’s just about buying one or two at a time and remembering the first time I saw a particular car. Or who I know who owned one etc. And thanks for the video, really informative despite not even looking for this video and actually looking for storage tips haha
I used to keep them all in the package but I am opening more and more lately. Most of my mainline HW and MBX gets opened. I usually keep the premiums on card.
I like the idea of opening a car only if you have a duplicate. I'm gonna try it. I don't know, I display 2700 loose and maybe display 700 carded and about 2500 carded in totes. Not it will add up right.
My son has been collecting hot wheels since he was born, his grandfather collected them and passed them down to his oldest grandson then he passed them down to my son. None of them in the package though but he has some old ones. He will take them out and play with them and loves to look at the year on the bottom of the car.
Thanks for posting this video I Myself collect for visual styling of a car Or model type Once in awhile I look for cars to go on My tracks . I tend to value cars with metal basis Even more with real rider and metal base Collecting is what You want it to be And finding a Hotaheels I had when I was kid priceless. My Favorite Hot Wheels Green Spoiler Sport
Thanks Mike! Collecting is my joy. Being a "completist" is my curse. Do you remember when Mattel made a stencil set for HW cars? I bet you have a few! I like your passion and your integrity.
Mike you're a good guy I agree with you it's what makes a person happy I recall the joy of cutting my grandmas Lawn and she give me $2-5 and I would go down to the junction and see what new car was in the Case and that brought me joy. I was so excited for my new additions I would sometimes save the box or matchbox it came in as a garage. One time I was allowed to get all the cars in the case at the junction.
There’s plenty of scalpers that make plenty of money. I run across them all the time. You see them on eBay all the time. It’s a pretty toxic hobby due to these scalpers/resellers
This is why I never bother looking for rare cars. I don't earn enough to be funding the guys who just are looking to profit. I wish they wouldn't do it, I mean most rare cars now end up in the hands of rich people now. But what can ya do? I have managed to buy one treasure hunt, from a guy who had other cars I was looking for. Since it was cheap, I went for it. Its nice to have, but would never spend more than double mainline cars, for them.
Really appreciate your video today, I love hot wheels and collecting them, though its become harder cause so many people are snagging up cars not for collecting, but to try and sell on ebay which I personally feel could hurt the hobby in the long run. I have 2 questions, Do you know how many different cars hot wheels has made since day 1, and dose Hot Wheels keep a record of what they produce and how many of each package ?
There have been over one billion Hot a Wheels cars sold since 1968. There are 6 Hot Wheels cars sold every second. As for numbers of cars for each series, only Mattel knows.
Back in the 70's my dad drove truck . SOHIO gas stations in Ohio gave away Hotwheels, with every tank of gas . I got a car just about every day . I had a great life for a long while . Still have em all . Minty . Im 59 . First car I received was a teal t bird in 1969.
I’ve only been collecting for about 2 years but I keep all my cars in the cards I’ve got about 450 cars all in boxes waiting for me to get my own place to put them on the wall
My dad & I started collecting 25 years ago, he passed away in 2012 and I sold around 6,500 Hot Wheels and kept the ones I like. Some are opened, some not. I lost money on them but that's not what matters, what matters are the memories we had together of searching the pegs at Wal-Mart for Treasure Hunts and all kids of other cars, that's what really matters.
Just discovered this channel and I like it. Also I'm a collector aswell I have open (loose) cars and sealed cars. That fit in certain categories either I had in the past, or its newer (w/ other variables aswell) ...
I got 4 color variations of the road bandits for my Filipino friend with Chinese stickers on the back and one bent package, it absolutely didn't matter he loved the present!! and it's priceless to see the joy, smile, and memories it gave him. now, out the case presented on a shelf like trophies :D
I really don't think there is such a thing as a perfect card... There are many cards that come with soft corners or bends. I don't think I've ever seen a 95 Treasure Hunt Bug without a vein on the front? Either way.. It's up to you what you want to pay. I've got cars with bad cards, but at least I have them, ya know? Yes, it would be great to have perfect cards, but to me, as long as it's carded I'm ok. If that makes any sense...?
I used to own like 30 cards as a kid (I mean, it's a small amount in comparison), as I grew up I just got rid of them. I regret not handing the down to other people or keeping them. My little cousin loves Hot Wheels more than anything in the world and I wish I would have saved them for him, as an adult now I can appreciate the work put into these little cars...
Hey there You're are just far too good of a man to let someone bring you down. This is the second time I've seen you get frustrated. Anyway I'm having fun! Peace brother. ..oh yeah thanks for show!
I have been a collector and a fan of Hot Wheels for over 33 years . I remember seeing every store that I go to is always full and well stocked of hot wheels cars of all kinds from realistic to fantasy . Now you go the stores today and the pegs are always empty and out of stock or just full of unpopular meaningless fantasy cars. Hot Wheels went from collector friendly to capitalism.
I collect but I keep them sealed, I like completing sets. But I only open ones I like, and even then I buy a second one for that. Got 861 sealed cars, and 70 open
I have probably started my personal collection over 5 times just this year but I've always had one specific model and finally I am trying to finish it. Turns out I need to have open cars just so I know I have all variations. Sometimes you need to open just to know you have everything.
I buy what I like. If I find vintage blackwalls in blisters...sweet. If I find them loose, that's fine. Ive bought boxes of cars for one or two that I see in there. The ones I dont like I put in bags and give away at Halloween.
I always buy my cars in pairs: one to open and one to keep in the package
Exactly
Yah i mean what happen if you found the old blue card edition? And its one and only?
I do that with the ones i really like
adith istyawan Then that stays in the package
i used to do the same before but i only buy one lately since new ones are becoming hard to find from the pegs here. scalpers and hoarders always reach the pegs first (sometimes even way before the cards reach the pegs) 😔
I've been collecting for around 21 years, I don't buy anything thinking I can make money down the road on it, I buy what I like. I mostly get American Muscle Cars, or if something really looks cool.
I agree with Mike, If you are in a hobby for an “investment “ you don’t have a hobby.
Trucks cool but try matchbox buy them in stores cause online they be good amount cheaper in store dollar cause this truck is so detalles said that wrong I think but yep try matchbox
i usually buy jdm cars
@@justinrobertson4809 matchbox has come a long way, I find myself buying one here and there. Usually it's a vehicle I've never seen in hot wheels. Got a street cleaner the other day that had good detail.
Started with just Mopar muscle years ago. Also like the odd made-up vehicles of the last decade.
Same here I collect to build my collection . But I don't open them if I think it's really neat I'll buy a few I don't check eBay first.
Same. 32 years now!
Man you get to enjoy your self so much like that
Why not both? Cars you like but cars people will be willing to buy out in 30+ years to pass on to the next generation.
If I close my eyes its like I'm listening to a polite Joe Pesci

This hobby has become an adult greedy pastime,... When we were young we bought these as toys and played for Fun!
And you should continue to! Don’t let others dictate how you have fun!
Joke's on the greedy, they'll recover only half their investment in THEIR lifetime! So collecting for FUN is the way to go!! 😁✌🚘🚕vroom, vroom!
@@HotWheelsTV He was talking about you. Greedy
I'm glad I'm not a historian or I wouldn't be able to enjoy these diecasts.. #die castliberationmovement
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this subject Mike!
how are u now sir? still collecting? i hope ur collection is getting better and better
Every hobby needs some hard core enthusiasts. The people with a passion, are the people others learn from.
Well said!!!
When it comes to buying & collecting Hot Wheels "THE MOTTO" that I like to follow is Keep One In The Pack and Play & Race One On The Track. 👍
The best of both worlds! Congrats! ✌😁👍
I collect hot wheels because it's fun and I love hunting for them 🤘
I personally like to keep my hot wheels carded, it preserves the value better as well as provides nostalgia.
The most consistent thing in my life....
@@HotWheelsTV Clearly.
Exactly! I started 4 years ago and my friends ask why i take them out of package.
Some of the Artwork on the packaging is so great that I cannot bear to take them out of the package.
I have a friend that only collects "Flat Black" cars. At first you might cringe, but his collection is pretty awesome.
@@tracyfunk3928 that's awesome!
@@tracyfunk3928 its cool how people like certain things. I only collect jdm cars. And the variations are unbelievable
Yes it is! I always say, I don't sell anything... I may give it to you, but I won't sell it to you ... LOL
IMHO. Just started collecting. I keep my cars in package. But when i decide to open one, that is a different story. I am getting so much pleasure when i open the package, can`t describe how is it. So it is just a hobby. Enjoy it! Don`t get greedy :)
It's all in how you want to collect! It's a hobby... Have fun!

I just got into collecting Hot wheels again and I stumbled across your video. You remind me so much of my grand father’s with the way you speak and how are straight up with people this was a great video and thank you for reminding me of him have a great day 😄
Thank you!
Loved every word. Spoken like a true collector.
You can sell that set right now for triple what you paid for it!
@@HotWheelsTV Yeah I'm not surprised. I don't know if I could ever sell it for any amount of money. I love it too much!
@@vinylman6580 Exactly!
You can teach someone about the value of Hot Wheels. But to love something, that is special. I love Hot Wheels. We have that in common.
The good thing out of what you’re saying is the honesty that’s what’s great about you if that’s what you love if that’s what you’re into. It’s your money. It’s your life. Enjoy it. That’s what I tell my kids.
Exactly...
Very well said! Thanx for watching!
We love collecting Myself and my 7 Grandkids live for it Hot Wheels has created so many memories and smiles Its such an amazing thing and to share it with them doesn't get any better.
Absolutely right! Nothing better!
I like the ones that are missing tires, windshield, and even the body of the cars got the bottom of the car but no top and sealed from the factory! Those are cool.
There are a lot of people that collect them too! Harder to find!
I have a bunch of "error" cars too. Better than finding a T-hunt because there may be only one in existence.
Been collecting hotwheels for 42years close to 15thousand most still in packaging love my hotwheels 👍👍
It's all in how you want to collect... It's your collection and you should enjoy it any way that makes you happy!
Throwing my 2 cents in:
If you want a 'chance' at making a potential profit in collecting Hot Wheels, always go for the vintage stuff.
@@HotWheelsTV Real Riders came out in the early 80s. I still have many I bought then.
You are very correct, it's become a way of life for me.
I love hearing from Mike he just talks real not hyped up by big corporate bottom line people.
Just loving it I'm a die cast collector I try my best to collect what I can when I can, premium sets anniversary sets are priority
I value your opinion Mike, I am an opener for the most part, but also have some good stuff still in the package.
Thanks..!
I started collecting hotwheels in 1977, just kept collecting out of habit. I've never sold any, have more than I want to count. Never dreamed people would be paying the crazy money I see them sell for. I started leaving them in the package around 1990 or so.
I know...right?
I recently started collecting Hot Wheels and decided that I am only collecting a certain brand of car, livery car, and cars I just like. If I run into a treasure hunt or super yeah I will pick it up but I am also not going to gate keep the others on the shelf.
That what collecting is all about! Collect what makes you happy! Have fun!
That's a humongous collection your kids will enjoy! 😁✌
It's all about the passion :-D
I buy not to collect but for the love of being a kid at heart❤️🔥
I love wagons and Delivery's! I keep asking the guys at Mattel to do more! I would love to see a series of 54 to 59 Chevy and Ford Sedan Delivery's!
Amen...preach it brother!!
My package are at the landfill I collect not cereal boxes go Mr. Zarnoff go!
Thanx for watching!
I have over 700 and I been opening em lately too I started in 2017 just opened a Mazda Repu so sick ❤just have fun
My son has been collecting hot wheels since he was born, his grandfather collected them and passed them down to his oldest grandson then he passed them down to my son. None of them in the package though but he has some old ones. He will take them out and play with them and loves to look at the year on the bottom of the car.
They year on the bottom of the car is the year that the casting was copyrighted, not the year the car was made. The castings are used for many years.
if Joe Pesci collected hot wheels
His voice is nearly spot on. Good call
Am I funny to you like a clown??!!
Thanks for posting this video I Myself collect for visual styling of a car
Or model type
Once in awhile I look for cars to go on My tracks .
I tend to value cars with metal basis
Even more with real rider and metal base
Collecting is what You want it to be
And finding a Hotaheels I had when I was kid priceless.
My Favorite Hot Wheels Green Spoiler Sport
Thanks Mike! Collecting is my joy. Being a "completist" is my curse. Do you remember when Mattel made a stencil set for HW cars? I bet you have a few! I like your passion and your integrity.
Thank you and yes, I have both releases and the one for the Hot Birds also. I know what you mean about being a completist! 😉
@stephenquesada409 that's awesome!! It's all about the memories!
There’s plenty of scalpers that make plenty of money. I run across them all the time. You see them on eBay all the time. It’s a pretty toxic hobby due to these scalpers/resellers
There's always that guy. They ruin it for everyone and it's honestly disgusting
You can tell that scalpers have hit your local stores immediately! Matchbox moving parts pegs were decimated in a day!
I'm 48 and just started collecting a little.Your opinions are truly refreshing Thank you for your hard work I enjoy it
I love the way he puts it plain and simple" So glad to see this type of video,Thankyou
I second that Curtis!
Christmas 1968. My Mom worked so hard to get me some Hot Wheels. They were the hottest thing that first year.
It's all about the memories!
@@HotWheelsTV Thanks Mike
Doesn't matter how you personally feel, the collectors are ruthless!
Back in the 70's my dad drove truck . SOHIO gas stations in Ohio gave away Hotwheels, with every tank of gas . I got a car just about every day . I had a great life for a long while . Still have em all . Minty . Im 59 . First car I received was a teal t bird in 1969.
Awesome!!
I’ve only been collecting for about 2 years but I keep all my cars in the cards I’ve got about 450 cars all in boxes waiting for me to get my own place to put them on the wall
Same same same
I’m waiting for my son to move out. I’ve “claimed “ his room.😁
James you do right 🤣
I’ve only been collecting for 4 months and have over 1,000
@@car.meetia9250 you bought all the 1000 cars in 4 months?
My dad & I started collecting 25 years ago, he passed away in 2012 and I sold around 6,500 Hot Wheels and kept the ones I like. Some are opened, some not. I lost money on them but that's not what matters, what matters are the memories we had together of searching the pegs at Wal-Mart for Treasure Hunts and all kids of other cars, that's what really matters.
What about if i alone with this hobby?
Just discovered this channel and I like it. Also I'm a collector aswell I have open (loose) cars and sealed cars. That fit in certain categories either I had in the past, or its newer (w/ other variables aswell) ...
I got 4 color variations of the road bandits for my Filipino friend with Chinese stickers on the back and one bent package, it absolutely didn't matter he loved the present!! and it's priceless to see the joy, smile, and memories it gave him. now, out the case presented on a shelf like trophies :D
Hey Mike, what about damaged cards? Like a soft corners or veins. Did they generally decrease the value dramatically?
The cars I like stay on the card the cars I don't go to my son that simple 👊✌️
Hey there You're are just far too good of a man to let someone bring you down. This is the second time I've seen you get frustrated. Anyway I'm having fun! Peace brother. ..oh yeah thanks for show!
I love the joys of opening up hot wheels cars and adding them to my collection
same
I have been a collector and a fan of Hot Wheels for over 33 years .
My question for you is how do you track your collection? I'd like to avoid duplicates if possible
I keep a list in WORD.
I have probably started my personal collection over 5 times just this year but I've always had one specific model and finally I am trying to finish it. Turns out I need to have open cars just so I know I have all variations. Sometimes you need to open just to know you have everything.
Dark Blue GMC S15 was my first new "car."
I buy what I like. If I find vintage blackwalls in blisters...sweet. If I find them loose, that's fine. Ive bought boxes of cars for one or two that I see in there. The ones I dont like I put in bags and give away at Halloween.
If I want to keep a car in mint condition I'll get two of them. Only certain ones I won't take out of the package.
