This was literally my Batman show growing up as a kid, even before I ever watched Batman The Animated Series or Batman: Brave and the Bold in my teen years. This show was my first introduction to Batman as a kid and honestly its probably my favourite Batman show. Tbh I really enjoy this joker, his design was originally similar to an asylum patient in the first episode, they changed to the purple suit after complaints for his later appearances in the show, his hair was designed to be akin to a jesters headdress. Also I like how he can fight back
I think if you factor in Cajun Croc's smooth accent, and southern charm as a part of his overall design, he can slither into S-Tier. Still probably my favourite rendition of the character.
Also, the snout was a then-recent addition in the comics. It's actually the tail that the show added, though one Croc toy from the transformation storyline (Hush) did erroneously add a tail.
Funnily enough I loved the monkey characterisation Joker had going on for him. His Monkey style way of fighting and general demeanor really gave off Monkey Prankster at times.
I disagree that the scarface design wasn't innovative. He is usually depicted as an al capone type mobster, with a pinstripe suit and tall hat. Instead, for this show, they went with a more modern interpretation of a gangster the unbuttoned shirt and gold necklace. I think that's pretty neat

The asylum Joker design was peak. It was different, cool, fun, and he actually was a physical threat to Batman in the show. Shame he didn’t utilize more.
I think that the Mr. Freeze design IS PERFECT! Honestly? I love the iceberg design. Considering he is supposed to be like- isn’t he like- only able to survive in freezing temperatures, it makes sense.
I honestly think Freezes origin in this show is a breath of fresh air. He breaks away from the sympathetic doctor trying to save his wife to just being a stupidly overpowered thief. It’s actually refreshing
16:09 i understand where you’re coming from, but it was later retconned in the comics that his skin condition was the result of a latent meda-gen. So its fairly on point as later interpretations of croc have him with a tail and a snout
I like Firefly’s design because it fits the show. But my overall favorite is the Arkham games because the designers weren’t afraid to show his charred body and his obsession with fire.
This show has one of my absolute favourite joker designs, partly because it was the only version of the joker to actually scare me as a kid. I love how his hair resembles a jester hat and his coat is a modified straitjacket. It’s completely different from every other joker but it works so well with the aesthetic and vibe of the show.
I really enjoyed this video. I love the fresh ddesignes of the characters and you just read my mind on this topic. I'm greatful U made it as well as pleased that there are fans of this show or atleast not haters. Cause I like this Batman although the first Batman tvshow I watched was TAS one, it seemed too boring to me as a teenager and it still does even after rewatching all of the seasons when I'm 20. The Gotham sity design, and the plot and script of the episodes are written with extremely high quality, like no other adaptation about Batman. But I just miss the dynamics of the drawing and cool action scenes. Still, the show tried to explore other themes, delve deeper into the characters and stick to the framework of a more or less restrained detective story. And also you're so adorable and funny, I love it
When I was a kid I used to have a Mr. Freeze action figure that you could put in the freezer and the iceberg on his head would get cloudy n shit it was awesome. I also had firefly too. They were Christmas gifts, even my parents knew they were S tier designs
The two girls that Penguin had I think were robots and called them Geisha. Like how Bruce traveled the world and picked up fighting penguin apparently went to Japan to learn to fight
@@marctm7614 I swear there was a scene in the show that confirmed that the twins were robots. Like, one of them gets destroyed and all that's left is a hand that has sparking wires coming out of it
@@ReeceHorne-c1w Nope, they usually escaped Batman whenever Penguin was taken down or they were left alone. Fully human characters, we just never see their faces or hear them speak.
This is my favorite Batman design. The long cape and silhouette looked CLEAN everytime and he was drawn with perfect proportions for a balance of acrobatics and muscle.
Honestly, I used have HUGE weird crush on this interpretation of Joker, when I was a child, he was basically the reason why I even started watching this show, one of the only jokers that can throw 50/50 hands with Batman, has a pretty good voice actor, pretty good design, has the least toxicity of Joker and Harley’s relationship, JTV was probably my fav episode of him, he is very UNDERRATED in my opinion, great ranking video bro, glad we are talking about this Batman show, it’s so underrated!
I remember not really buying Harley falling for crackhead Joker when I first watched the show, but now I realize that he is exactly what many women want.
I LOVE this Batman series. Yes, it may not have the top tier writing that Batman the animated series or Batman from JLA has, but the designs are so COOL. It gives me that early 2000s edginess that Teen Titans had, and to me, this is the Batman that trained Teen Titans robin
0:54 i love his cape so much especially because of how it drags behind him, dangles down when he's on a thin surface and he can cover himself with it I wish we could see that done in a movie ine day. The only Batman design that can get away with not having a cape that drags behind Batman is his original design which was used in caped crusader
I grew up on the JL/JLU design & universe so I didn’t watch this til later in life, but it’s definitely underrated! My favorite headcanon is that this Joker is black since Kevin Michael Richardson voices him 😂
what i find enjoyable about the designs is the heros are plain as they normal people vs the villains which for most of them arnt so they put all of the design budget into the villains to make them stick out it was a good touch that not many batman comics or shows do for the most part
I grew up with this show and not B:TAS, so I have a major appreciation for it, and I'm glad I'm not alone here. (Most of) the designs in this show were great on top of being original, and I LOVED the interpretation of the Joker in this show. The first episode was absolutely terrifying, more so than any other design. Plus, I respect the hell out of it for actually doing something original for once. Also, look at some of the minor villains, too. The Ragdoll in this show is fantastic and absolutely incredible, and a bunch of other small, once-off characters have the same creativity put into them as the big villains.
I like most of the designs from this series. Even the designs I don't like, I appreciate for being willing to try something new, different, and interesting. It's so goofy to me how many people want the same designs over and over again and just can't handle anything new or different. Different doesn't equal bad, it's okay to try new things.
One thing I love with the joker design is how the monkey like posture fits his insanity and should be the norm. The unkept hair also goes with it also him being physically capable to fight also makes sense. I just love how all the designs are unique. It’s good to have each villain be unique and not all be guys in suits. Like joker shouldn’t be this well kept mannered man and just go fun in on the insanity. I mean he can start to blend in and same for other villains.
Respectfully, The Batman 2004 is not weird. One thing I would change is that Bane's look would remain how he looks pre venom. He'd rival Batman in skill and intelect
I also watched this show as a kid and this Catwoman was literally my favorite design of all time for her. I think they did a good job of balancing the sleek and sexy aesthetic of Catwoman, but keeping it kids show friendly and making it something that preteen girls wanted to be. She didn't feel gratuitous and off-putting and condescending the way many other Catwoman designs I saw at that age did. This Catwoman and Batgirl too somehow just felt more like a girl's fantasy and not a man's fantasy like usual, was nice at a time when superhero shows seemingly didn't want to acknowledge that girls made up a large part of their fan base. I still wish we'd see another show with the BIG ears on her. Just something about it, as a girl i wanted that hood.
Someone is lying to you, Batman 2004 had some of the best designs BECAUSE of how they changed the characters, i honestly think the change of character is the fresh start DC fans needed
I like the Joker design for this show, because now all I can think of is Harley’s hyenas when I see him. And that just- it fits SO WELL. It’s like a mix between a hyena and a jackal (not The Jackal, although I could see a bit) He just looks… animalistic. And I LOVE THAT. It’s not the traditional Joker, never will be. But maybe that’s okay.
I've already had a few people comment this, but yes I did completely miss Scarface's outfit. That's actually such a fun design choice. I probably would've moved him to B Tier if I noticed.

I honestly think Freezes origin in this show is a breath of fresh air. He breaks away from the sympathetic doctor trying to save his wife to just being a stupidly overpowered thief. It’s actually refreshing
Brilliant & original. What an engaging video and analysis of this under-appreciated animated series. Cheers!
FINALLY SOMEONE MADE THIS VIDEO. i've always admired the batman (2004)'s art style and character designs
Great video! Totally agree Mr. Freeze has an amazing design.
Man I love this show! I still fully remember the future Batman episode that introduced me to Nightwing
Me too! I fell in love with the character the second I saw him. He since became one of my favorites DC characters as a whole.
Goated video idea
you're a goated video idea
@@andaeleeno you are
16:09 i understand where you’re coming from, but it was later retconned in the comics that his skin condition was the result of a latent meda-gen. So its fairly on point as later interpretations of croc have him with a tail and a snout
I like Firefly’s design because it fits the show. But my overall favorite is the Arkham games because the designers weren’t afraid to show his charred body and his obsession with fire.
Firefly is soooo good in this show honestly one of my favourite Batman designs from any media
And also you're so adorable and funny, I love it
Hell yea, as one of The Batman 2004s biggest fans its awesome to see some more coverage of it
Please do a Batman Beyond Character design ranking they got some sick ass characters in there
Bro forgot Solomon Grundy
That was one of my favorite designs, too bad he didn't put it on the list 😮💨
Always loved how Batman could wrap his cape around him like a coat.
When I was a kid I used to have a Mr. Freeze action figure that you could put in the freezer and the iceberg on his head would get cloudy n shit it was awesome. I also had firefly too. They were Christmas gifts, even my parents knew they were S tier designs
The torn straightjacket version of the joker's outfit was pretty neat.
That Mr. Freeze is perfection. PERFECTION.
That animation made me fall in love with this character. I loved that show and still do.
As a kid This was the only Joker I remember that could have physical fight with Batman.
I absolutely 100 percent AGREE!! with you man.. also could you pls do an ultimate Spider Man Animated Series of this plz??
The two girls that Penguin had I think were robots and called them Geisha. Like how Bruce traveled the world and picked up fighting penguin apparently went to Japan to learn to fight
They were human, they're called the "Kabuki Twins."
The best joker carnation ever I love the carnival theme he uses it's not really used that much😅
This is my favorite Batman design.
Are you pandering? How does BTAS have better writing than this show?
As a kid who grew up with this show, it took me a long time to get used to Bane not growing huge and his skin turning pitch red whenever he juiced up.
Honestly I can't believe they haven't started using this Firefly design in the comics or other adaptations, it's perfect
Everything about this series was amazing
I really hope DC make Rino Romano comes back to voice Batman
They based the Lego firefly on this version!
Great vid so far
Though I gotta add Catwoman in caped crusader wasn't a redesign it was straight up adapted from comics
I guess with minor changes
0:54 i love his cape so much especially because of how it drags behind him, dangles down when he's on a thin surface and he can cover himself with it I wish we could see that done in a movie ine day. The only Batman design that can get away with not having a cape that drags behind Batman is his original design which was used in caped crusader
I love this art style it’s so different and cool
I started watching this series 2 years ago and I definitely feel in love with this series, and I especially love the designs 😀 🥰
I grew up on the JL/JLU design & universe so I didn’t watch this til later in life, but it’s definitely underrated! My favorite headcanon is that this Joker is black since Kevin Michael Richardson voices him 😂
I wasn’t crazy about that Joker until I saw Batman vs. Dracula…that’s when I finally got it.
And I’m 100% with you on Batman’s cape.
what i find enjoyable about the designs is the heros are plain as they normal people vs the villains which for most of them arnt so they put all of the design budget into the villains to make them stick out it was a good touch that not many batman comics or shows do for the most part
Fun fact: The Batman's Joker hair was meant to resemble a jester hat!
I like most of the designs from this series. Even the designs I don't like, I appreciate for being willing to try something new, different, and interesting. It's so goofy to me how many people want the same designs over and over again and just can't handle anything new or different. Different doesn't equal bad, it's okay to try new things.
I liked most of the designs except for Bane's when I first saw his first saw it I threw me off for a second
you got a good taste brother
Hot take but the joker's design is really good, making him lean super heavily into complete insanity was interesting and fun
Fun fact:
The Batman 2004 Joker is the first incarnation of the character to be portrayed by a black actor (Kevin Michael Richardson)...
I LOVED THIS SHOW! Glad it’s getting the love it deserves
Honestly love this show. All the designs I really love. Earlier seasons I prefer than later but still loved it
1:10 I think those are smoke grenades. Or maybe the pouches are on the back so it doesn’t mess with the look.
As a fellow 20-something geeky Australian, I have to say that your videos speak to me on a spiritual level.
DAVE would be S teir
Facts
Someone is lying to you, Batman 2004 had some of the best designs BECAUSE of how they changed the characters, i honestly think the change of character is the fresh start DC fans needed
The suit is really cool, but the original Kevin Conroy IS AWESOME! It is, SO ICONIC!
