I hate the misconception that brave and the bold is this goofy kid version of batman. It's the only batman show that multiple times a hero sacrifice themselves saving the world. Like full-on dead, not played as a joke. Something the supposed dark and gritty versions like new adventures and beyond fakes out on with killing joker or the hawkman helmat implying his death. As a love letter the the golden age of comics it is a little silly, but the writing is often greater than given credit and knows when to get serious
The misconception made me stop watching the video, Batman is an inherently silly concept so I love seeing shows that acknowledge that but also respect the character
Batman Brave the Bold doesn't have a style? If anything it's the show that has the most style. And it being more light-hearted isn't a deviation from Batman. If anything it's more accurate to the Golden and Silver age of comics.

Dang, it’s sucks to hear about your opinions of Batman Brave and Bold. I completely disagree with your opinion of the opening not having a style or identity, the jazzy themes and the comic book pulp style of the backgrounds it screamed to me as the evolution of the Adam West theme. It broke my heart when you said Batman teaming up with “lame “ characters, I mostly though of it as opportunity to show off why these classic characters had a time to shine, some that hasn’t been seen in decades making their debut on television. Sorry, I actually had no idea how much brave and the bold means to some people, and like I said in my video I think it's a good show, its personally just not what I prefer. Also for the lame character thing I said, that's more what I thought when I was little, now I respect it. I think it's cool to introduce older characters to the new generation. Brave and the bold definitely has my respect.
At the least, "Heart of Ice" is rated a 9/10 on IMDB (while "Almost Got Him" is a 9.2/10). It's still highly regarded (and rightfully so) but AGH has that unique perspective of it being a Batman episode told in the eyes of his villains.
I think the series finale really encapsulated what you're talking about. It explained how BATB was a love letter to the silver age and that there was room for campy, light-hearted Batman alongside of brooding and gritty Batman.
Batman brave and the bold can go from the silliest episode to the darkest episode. Even if you think about it starro was silly then they killed bahwannah beast
The show was mediocre, especially compared to most of the other series. This doesn't mean it's a problem for you to like it. Just know that most batman fans didn't enjoy it as much.
@@gamechannel1271 Crazy statement. It is one of the most unique Batman shows ever. Live action or animation. It showed so much love not only to Batman as a character but to the entire DC catalogue. It did self awareness before it was cool and it did it really well. Yes, it is targeted mostly towards kids but it still had some very impressive and serious episodes. Most importantly it had so much heart and love towards comics in general.
Brave and the Bold is right below BTAS, imo, because it has the only instance where Batman teams up with the Joker to beat the Crime Syndicate. I love the Crime Syndicate and I also really enjoy Batman and Joker team-ups. Plus, it also has an Emperor Joker adaptation.
the wonder woman character from batman beyond is actually Big Barda and she has been around a long time she wasn't made up for the episode. Also in new batman adventures there are some episodes with Nightwing and those awesome which you might like more than the robin batgirl ones
43:24 Another fun thing about the voice cast this episode that people don’t talk about as much is that Batman’s mother is played by Julie Newmar, the original Catwoman from the 66 series, which is also pretty impressive.
Plus it had Adam West voicing Thomas Wayne. So it’s like seeing two versions of Batman meeting each other. I would’ve hugged Julie Newmar as well if I were the voice of a Batman.
The part with joe chill not saying who batman was during the brave and the bold episode was just so that the villains didn't get to know Batman's identity, but if i had to give an in story reason as to why he didn't say his name it would probably be something along the lines of wanting to sell that information to the villains later on after they helped him, not taking into account that they would hate him for creating batman. I also found it funny that the one who changed the subject before joe could say anymore, was Joker, most likely not wanting to know who Batman is
You missed a series. The New Adventures of Batman is actually a sequel series to The Adventures of Batman which aired 9 years earlier in 1968. It ran for 2 seasons and didn't feature Batgirl or Batmite
It had Batgirl, but not in the intro. Yes, Batmite was not in this cartoon. Another big difference being that Olan Soule and Casey Kasem did the voices of Batman and Robin (in that order) and would later repeat their voice roles in the SuperFriends cartoon, making many people believe that Superfriends was a sequel series, much like how Justice League was a sequel cartoon series to BTAS.
Yeah but The 2004 Batman show didn't have a single bad/boring episode, the action is fluid, the animation is beautiful, all the villains are a threat, and the show's story is continuous.
31:30 Without Spoilers, It is explained in Justice League Unlimited: episode - “Epilogue”. I highly recommend watching Batman Beyond and its movie in its entirety first. As it serves as an epilogue to that series and the overall Animated interconnected universe.
you’re a good man for not spoiling but instead recommending i love batman beyond i think the movie would have been great im happy to find someone who understands and knows the story of terry mcginnis
was gonna say. Good on ya for not spelling it out and it is kinda sick that superman is the only person that could really see how similar they are too!
the brave and the bold worst episode is not bad .. its full of References to the silver age and a true comic fan does like stuff like that ... the silver age was silly stop being soo upset with a perfectly fine show
@@LilQuaser Youre feelings then but in terms of silver age it has tons of reference and details for the comic fans even up to obscure heroes and villains
@@LilQuaser i absolutely love Batman Brave and the bold, but I completely agree with you, I heavily dislike that specific episode. Also some additional context on the episode, its the show 2nd to last episode of the series. On one hand helps ties up other characters, as well as acts as a anthology on cold openings. On the other hand, it really shows the episode was pushed out as filler till the final episode. @felixleidig8307 Sure the show mentions a lot of silver age stuff, but so does teen titans go, hence why both shows share a writer, Michael Jelenic. I like silver age stuff, I like Kanja Ro and Adam Strange, the episode is a great send off to those 2 characters who probably wont appear on any other show. But the Mazing Man part of the episode ruins it for me, it has nothing to do with Batman or Brave and the Bold.
The best part of Crok's story. Is that batman telling it means that Batman consideres it the closest he came to getting got And if you watch the episode he's referring to, yeah, it is. Too bad Bruce thinks that Crock is significantly dumber than he is
Mad Love is actually adapted from a one shot comic that released between BTAS and TNAB. Though it that comic had the same creators as the TNBA episode.
BTAS and Batman Beyond are my favourite Batman shows, I honestly don't think I hate any of the episodes from both of those shows. They're the only Batman shows I've watched in full (besides Caped Crusader), so I'm currently working thrBrave and the Bold and The Batman. Nice video btw, really enjoyed it!
I feel like Critters would have worked better as a STAS episode I mean it writes itself Superman was raised by FARMERS after all plus I think it’s more interesting to see Superman and say Super girl fight giant animals rather than the bat family…..
whats pretty awesome in chill of the night as well is that thomas wayne was, yes, adam west, but martha wayne was voiced by julie newmar who was catwoman in the 66 show
23:02 btw I didn’t knew Joker had hands like that 10 years old me was so flabbergasted when bro beat Batman up😭 he’s portrayed as physical weak most of the time but DCAU Joker was lowkey cooking
Eeh, I’d recommend giving Beware the Batman another try. It does a great job with the serialization and building up the characters, story, and world. I’d argue it does it better than Caped Crusader. Katana and Alfred are good foils to Batman in their regular dynamic and there’s some great fight scenes in the other episodes.
Brave and the Bold is a big deal for people who actually read the corresponding comics. These are all DC characters and the show, like the comics it is based on, was a celebration of the many corners of the DCU by teaming characters up with Batman. It's also notable for being where Neal Adams started drawing the character, which changed the look and style of Batman comics ever since. Maybe pick a subject you know something about, cuz apparently Batman isn't it. He's been around a while now.
Nah I respect Batman Brave and the Bold, I personally never vibed with it as much as some of the other shows but still I think its solid. But yeah I gotta admit I didn't realise how important the show was to a lot of batman fans so if I was to do this video again I would probably be more careful with my words when talking about it.
I’m guessing you’re not a big DC fan, but the Wonder Woman type character from Batman Beyond is actually not an original character. Her name is Big Barta and she’s from The New Gods. They’re pretty unknown to casual DC fans. But anyway, great video, would love to see more videos like this. 👍
Actually, the redesigns in The New Batman Adventures were actually the original designs that Bruce Timm and co wanted to use for BTAS, but were forced to use the ones you know in order to make the show seem more related to the Tim Burton movies
Great video dude! It would be awesome if one day you do a video of batman mask of the phantasm movie, is from the animated series and my personal favorite animated film of all time
I have never watched brave and the bold, but i really respect it. It looks like a animated, modern, slightly more comedic version of pre 1970 batman from the comics. I like how it shows more characters from DC as well.
"Chill of the Night" is somewhat like a lost episode of BTAS. Like.. I can totally hear the "Appointment In Crime Alley" incidental music over the scenes of Batman driving the batmobile between the leads of his investigation. A recut version of that episode with Shirley Walker music would be super cool to see.
yeah it really does, i wouldn't be surprised if it was written for BTAS by Paul Dini but they just never got around to making it, and then it was reworked for Brave and the Bold
I'd recommend the "Mad Love" comic by Paul Dini & Bruce Timm, that the episode was very directly adapted from. It's better IMO, as it's a little less 'sanitized for TV broadcast',, and uses the older BTAS character designs.
In Batman beyond when superman says that line at the end it has a double meaning about how terry is acting more like batman but also its a hint at a spoiler they explain in justice league and its a PEAK episode.
Yeah. I dont like idea that Terry is Bruces son. It makes Terry more shallow. And makes his revenge pointless. I mean on of the reasons of being Batman for him is take revenge of his father who raised him. And I prefer that idea that some random but capable guy became Batman. And previous Batman mentors him, like he did with the Robins
31:24 It is kind of an ongoing thing with Terry living up to the mantle of Batman but Superman's line is also foreshadowing a big twist that happens in Justice League Unlimited which I will not spoil in case you wanna watch that show.
@@stzzyseb Terry is the product of Amanda Waller and Cadmus, for project batman beyond. After a confrontation with Ace and the royal flush gang Amanda Waller realized that the world needs a batman. So she rewrote Terry's fathers reproductive material with an exact copy of Bruce Wayne's, so that Terry is the biological child of his mother and Bruce. She then tried to have phantasm kill Terry's parents to put him on the path to being batman, but phantasm backed out, but Terry ended up becoming batman anyway.
For the batman in my basement thing, I don't think people dislike it because batman isn't in it, as there are many great episodes that barely have batman in them, i.e. Harley and Ivy. I personally don't mind it but I think the real reason people hate it is that the kid's a ginger.
1. Professor Pyg is a reoccurring villain in the comics 2. Brave and the bold is incredible and has arguably the best style 3. You didn't even do research on beware the batman and then complained about not knowing anything You can do better. I believe you can.
10:34 this scene and also the one from joker are both heavily inspired by a few panels in the dark knight returns from 1986. In that comic Joker goes on a late night show and kills David letterman.
So your information is a little bit... confused. What happened was BTAS was originally aired (as you said) without a title and just him standing in front of the lightning stroke (thunder is the sound lightning makes) for the first season. Then they added the title "The Adventures of Batman and Robin" in the second season which is either when Robin first appears or maybe when he starts to appear more, I don't now recall. It was that way for the next two seasons (so from '93 to '95). "The New Batman Adventures" (TNBA), the one where they changed up the entire style of... well, everything, came out in '97. I know exactly WHY you got things confused, by the way, and it isn't your fault. Literally everyone who talks about this and is too young to have lived through it uses the same sources which get everything completely jumbled. My pet theory is that America uses "season" where everyone else uses "series" and since "series" is in the name of the show there must be some error in translation somewhere. Just know there were 4 seasons of BTAS ('92 thru '95) and 1 season of TNBA ('97 thru '98). I know you're looking at things that say there were only 2 seasons of BTAS and it immediately changed to TNBA which makes you THINK it was in the second season and all, but that is incorrect. Even then you might get confused because when I say TNBA had one season and started in '97 you will look and see it ended in '99 and it's just...a mess. If you keep in mind that back then "a season" was basically 22 or 24 episodes, that kind of helps because then you can check the episode count. Good video, though. I'm enjoying it. ^_^
Wow, okay, so sorry just to clarify cuz I really wanna understand this: Batman the animated series aired nameless, then in season 2 it was called the adventures of batman and robin, it stayed like at for a few seasons, it was cancelled and THEN came back with the new batman adventures? Or the show was never technically cancelled, and they just started a new show?
@@LilQuaser The first part of that is accurate; as far as WHY it got the makeover and WAS it cancelled officially? I don't know. I was just ten at the time it started and I watched it a bunch so I am familiar with the actual series run and all of that but only from an outside perspective. I do know it was marketed as NOT being cancelled and just that it was "the next season". For clarity I mean that there was never a season finale for BTAS and (as you noted) TNBA had the same people working on it (both voice actors and production side) and it was completely run like it was just continuing the BTAS world. So, as far as I remember, there was never anything about one being different from the other, it was just one day you were watching BTAS and then the next day Joker didn't have lips. It was really jarring and (as you can imagine) not many people responded positively to it, which is why TNBA only had one season. I would guess. I do know that BTAS had a massive budget and famously they started with black paper instead of white when drawing it because it was so dark it saved money on black ink or paint or whatever they used. And that when they made the World's Finest "movie" (which was really just a two or three episode arc but it was originally billed as a movie) which is where Batman and Superman (from STAS) finally meet and have an adventure, it was the TNBA Batman design so... was BTAS swapped out to more closely align with Superman's aesthetic? I don't KNOW but I kind of think it was more cost than aesthetics because I am certain (because I heard Bruce Timm mention this in some interview long ago) they specifically took STAS in as different an artistic direction as possible while still staying in the same general style of BTAS to make them feel as different as they could but like they were still from the same universe. It is a complex hot mess and I'm sorry you accidentally fell into it. XD
@@xeltanni8999 The makeover happened because the simplified style was easier to draw/animate. The one aspect of that mess that's actually pretty straightforward. Lol
I grew up watching The Batman 2004 as well and man, that show is so goated. The original theme song still holds up which is crazy, it’s all so fucking good man!
if batman beyond is on this list it clears ez. damn you did it dirty. btw the reason supermen tells terry he is more like batman then he think is foreshadowing the fact the bruce is technically terry real father in a way thank to some trickery from Waller.

I generally like Batman and hero of the day up in brave and bold it’s not every day you get to see him more lighthearted Batman interact with some of your other favorite heroes
As far as what Superman was hinting at in Batman Beyond “The Call”, Batman Beyond/Justice League Unlimited spoilers, but it’s revealed that Terry Mcguiness is the son of Bruce Wayne. This is revealed in the season 2 finale of Justice League Unlimited, where an older Terry interrogates one of the main villains of JLU, Amanda Waller, who tells him she injected Terry’s dad with Bruce’s DNA so that Terry would be Bruce’s son.
Batman, the animated series intro is the exact opposite of the later Disney marvel shows where it’s just a quick logo of agents of smash or ultimate Spider-Man
Love brave and the bold. Gives so many comic characters recognition. Even the bad episodes have references and appearances of niche lil dudes. Love it but goddam it hurts my eyes.
At 7:42 they actually DID date in the show during a previous episode, since this version of Ivy doesn’t have actual superpowers (yet?) she used toxins/pheromones to control Harvey and use his influence. And yes, it was before he became Two-Face
my problem with the B:TAS opening is that it uses the Danny Elfman score from the 1989 movie. it’s an amazing score! but if i want a Batman cartoon, i want a unique theme song.
Mad love is amazing and I love it because I doubt we’d have the same Lego Batman movie without it setting up that Batman is the most important person to joker?
I remember hearing somewhere (don't quote me on this as I might be wrong) that Strange New World was supposed to have Scarecrow as the antagonist and the gas Batman and Robin were hit with at the beginning was fear toxin. The reason they changed it was the Bat Embargo prevented them from using Scarecrow because he was in the Dark Knight trilogy
I got Batman in my basement should have been something else like when they used the penguin to use statues from ancient Egypt to destroy stuff like 2004, that would have been better!

My bias is that I read alot of superhero encyclopedias as a kid, and this had a lot of faces that were not even in those. I've bever been a big fan of drama or steaks. And the roster of characters have alot of personality and dynamics. This show is mostly camp action and fun, there is substance, but not much award winning. Still is hella fun.
I like the fact that in The Batman he is excited and protective about being in the League and doesnt see himself as above them
Batman in other shows: i know your name, powers, and weaknesses before you do
Batman in the batman: "why aren't you in school?"
"I'm 27"

The green guy was the Specter btw. God's angel of vengeance on earth. He was voiced by Mark Hamill
Nice to know the Joker voiced God's Vengenance. LOL
Fug mark Hamilton. Luke Skywalker wouldn't like him either
@@nunyabizness6376no one wants to hear about star wars
@@urfatherty the joker wouldn't like him either
@nunyabizness6376 I hate Mark Hamill too, but that's not the greatest indictment because the Joker likes exactly two people: Batman and Lex Luthor.
in the brave and the bold episode Martha wayne was voiced by one of the catwomen's from the batman 60 tv show.
Isn't Big Barda like an actual giant or am i thinking of somebody else?
I also found it funny that the one who changed the subject before joe could say anymore, was Joker, most likely not wanting to know who Batman is
The starro episode of brave and bold are they best
Staro the goat so I wouldn't be surprised

15:17 it really says a lot when your WORST episode is still entertaining.
As it serves as an epilogue to that series and the overall Animated interconnected universe.

the brave and the bold worst episode is not bad .. its full of References to the silver age and a true comic fan does like stuff like that ... the silver age was silly stop being soo upset with a perfectly fine show
yea nah i batman brave and the bold is aight in my opinion but as for that specific episode... idk i didn't like it
@@LilQuaser Youre feelings then but in terms of silver age it has tons of reference and details for the comic fans even up to obscure heroes and villains
Is that batman telling it means that Batman consideres it the closest he came to getting got
And if you watch the episode he's referring to, yeah, it is.
Thanks so much:)
I feel like Critters would have worked better as a STAS episode I mean it writes itself Superman was raised by FARMERS after all plus I think it’s more interesting to see Superman and say Super girl fight giant animals rather than the bat family…..
whats pretty awesome in chill of the night as well is that thomas wayne was, yes, adam west, but martha wayne was voiced by julie newmar who was catwoman in the 66 show
23:02 btw I didn’t knew Joker had hands like that
10 years old me was so flabbergasted when bro beat Batman up😭 he’s portrayed as physical weak most of the time but DCAU Joker was lowkey cooking
“I threw a rock at him”-Killer Croc
Yeeh fawkin casuals they should dissapear
Big Barda
Actually, the redesigns in The New Batman Adventures were actually the original designs that Bruce Timm and co wanted to use for BTAS, but were forced to use the ones you know in order to make the show seem more related to the Tim Burton movies
Great video dude! It would be awesome if one day you do a video of batman mask of the phantasm movie, is from the animated series and my personal favorite animated film of all time
i definitely want to come back to making more batman videos. The response from the animated batman community has been so cool.
I have never watched brave and the bold, but i really respect it. It looks like a animated, modern, slightly more comedic version of pre 1970 batman from the comics. I like how it shows more characters from DC as well.
Yea that's basically it
i love brave and the bold sm, but i guess it isn’t for everyone?
Oh w yeah I'll check it out
In Batman beyond when superman says that line at the end it has a double meaning about how terry is acting more like batman but also its a hint at a spoiler they explain in justice league and its a PEAK episode.
Can you tell me?
@@stzzyseb Terry is the product of Amanda Waller and Cadmus, for project batman beyond. After a confrontation with Ace and the royal flush gang Amanda Waller realized that the world needs a batman. So she rewrote Terry's fathers reproductive material with an exact copy of Bruce Wayne's, so that Terry is the biological child of his mother and Bruce. She then tried to have phantasm kill Terry's parents to put him on the path to being batman, but phantasm backed out, but Terry ended up becoming batman anyway.
Before watching (oh trust me, I'm watching the whole thing)
"The Batman" (2004) is peak
Though it takes 2ed place for intro obviously, you can't beat the Animated Series intro
25:07 "There's no stakes," while showing a giant cow trampling the Batmobile...😂
3:05 Made me laugh WAY TOO HARD
Yeah nah clayface is a lad
The Batman (2004) started with such an awesome theme. I still can’t believe they changed it.
For the batman in my basement thing, I don't think people dislike it because batman isn't in it, as there are many great episodes that barely have batman in them, i.e. Harley and Ivy. I personally don't mind it but I think the real reason people hate it is that the kid's a ginger.
Nice comment man
TNBA Joker looks like Admiral Thrawn from Star Wars😭
But he lowkey looks clean if you get used to it
1. Professor Pyg is a reoccurring villain in the comics
2. Brave and the bold is incredible and has arguably the best style
3. You didn't even do research on beware the batman and then complained about not knowing anything
You can do better. I believe you can.

IK WHAT A CHIN AMIRIGHT
It's crazy how Batman impersonated a priest that has to be some kind of sin.
32:54 "We got to have money." 😂
From the tom and jerry movie.
10:34 this scene and also the one from joker are both heavily inspired by a few panels in the dark knight returns from 1986. In that comic Joker goes on a late night show and kills David letterman.

I will not stand for this Brave and The Bold slander.
Wow, okay, so sorry just to clarify cuz I really wanna understand this:
Batman the animated series aired nameless, then in season 2 it was called the adventures of batman and robin, it stayed like at for a few seasons, it was cancelled and THEN came back with the new batman adventures?
XD
Lel nah its interesting stuff, thanks for taking the time to tell me about it
@@xeltanni8999 The makeover happened because the simplified style was easier to draw/animate.
The one aspect of that mess that's actually pretty straightforward. Lol

As a kid in the 90s, throwing a brick around is about the tier of dumb stuff you'd do before Among Us. Yeah.
I think you should also have added the last episode of each entry too. Mostly because Brave and the Bold has a very heartwarming ending
The Batman (2004) is GOATED and I love nearly every aspect about it, it’s amazing. It’s got a few eh parts, but overall pure kino.

32:46 Honestly, I have to agree with IMDB, while not entirely a horrendous episode, it is by far the worst written episode for Batman Beyond.
Oh I try VERY HARD to forget this episode

I agree with most everything... But those Bongos in the Brave And The Bold theme is absolutely amazing, thst into definitely deserved a B jsut for that
An excellent video essay taking us on a journey through animated Batman. I really enjoyed this and agree with your takes. Especially the “update” (downgrade) from Batman: TAS to THE NEW ADVENTURES. I hated those character designs. The old ones were so much better. As you said, the writing could often be just as good. But the look of the show was not.

You missed the cartoon that came before 'The New Adventures of Batman.'
'The Adventures of Batman', which was the same batman as superfriends.
If nothing else, The New Batman Adventures did give us that really badass design for the Scarecrow
Batman, the animated series intro is the exact opposite of the later Disney marvel shows where it’s just a quick logo of agents of smash or ultimate Spider-Man
I grew up on Beware the Batman and honestly, I love it and it has one of the best Batman plot lines ever
and also the reason Deathstroke's name is an anagram is because he wants Batman to figure it out so he can kill Alfred
Whats crazy about Superman saying that to Terry is that Terry ended up being a CLONE of Bruce.✌🏾

I like to think the rock story was Batman throwing shade at Killer Croc, like he was saying that the closest he got to killing him was throwing a kinda big rock at him
I understand your thoughts on brave amd the bold, but personally for me its my favorite batman show.
I would honestly recommend Knights of Tomorrow as an episode similar to Chill of the Night. There are more episodes similar to it, but for the sidekicks characters. The color pf revenge is a good robin episode.
Also Yeah 4 star spectacular sucks For Real. This show does do good anthology, but that episode really really sucks.

39:58 wow he turned into a monkey 40:53 probably 41:00 I feel feel like bad girl needs like just a little or at least like one episode just with Batman so she always gets like a refresh new introduction because I keep being the same bad girl over and over again just seems a little boring
41:52 yessssssssssssss
42:04 yeah well this is when things started hitting the fan between violence and punching in blood and like this timing I feel like a lot of shows had to turn comedic not because they wanted to, but because of parents being so mad about violence have you seen kid shows and nowadays none of it has fighting or punching or even blood it’s because of the parents
43:23 man there’s so many famous voice actors in the show and like directors I really really like it
45:22 yay
53:23 I mean, I feel like the effect just belongs with Batman. I don’t know how I feel about the 3-D effect but I mean it looks good. You should react to Batwheels. Please react to Batwheels.
57:44 wow Harvey actually looks burnt this time 58:03 oh that’s so sad feel 59:08 why does this episode feel so like sad and like I feel like I want a good ending for two face. I want a good ending for Harvey but it doesn’t. It doesn’t work that way I guess.
Literally the brave and the bold best episodes plot is ripped straight out of an old comic, exactly the same, the only differences I see is the "angel" and "devil" figures and Joe Chill was killed by his own henchmen and not from complete chaos
