  • An onride video of the Zippin Pippin roller coaster at Libertyland. Sadly the ride and park closed for good at the end of the 2005 season. Zippin Pippin was said to be the favorite ride of Elvis Presley.

my dad paid off the guy when i was 1 inch too short to get on and we ended up riding in over 15 times that day. Loved growing up in Memphis I sure do miss that place.

I miss this park. It was one of Memphis's gems that was sadly destroyed to make room for public housing which never materialized.
And the Coliseum in the background. I attended hundreds of Memphis RiverKings hockey games there in the past.

Nice work, C-Fan. Really enjoyed the ride myself when I got to the park during Preservation Con a few years back.
Just not enough John Miller coasters left in the world...
    P.S. Canobies DOES indeed rock!

This ride will reopen at Bay Beach Amusement Park in Green Bay, Wisconsin in the future. They haven't had a roller coaster at Bay Beach since 1913.

@GNRAxlRose88 Tbh it's only costing us $3 million, that's still cheap if u think about it considering construction, the steel, the wood and other costs compared to others. The only thing that was junk from the original coaster here was the wood, the steel was salvageable as was the train. Apparently from Coasterforce, we're getting our wood from another defunct roller coaster Thunder Eagle. if u think about it we still didn't get half a bad deal, plus it's being constructed in record time!

Memphis can't support anything...we got rid of Libertyland, we lost the Mid-South Fair and our hockey team (Memphis Riverkings) to DeSoto County, Mississippi, our Pyramid is empty...so is our Mid-South Coliseum. We have no amusement park now and we only have 1 miniature golf course amusement place, left (Putt-Putt). We used to have several of those...Al's Golfhaven, Putt-Putt on Mt. Moriah, Celebration Station, and Bogey's. Why is everything going?

I just rode it in Green Bay. Fun. Lots of airtime in the last car. And the second to last hill was a surprise.

  • @jukingeo
    @jukingeo 11 років тому +2

Oh, really? So when the park closed in 2005, the coaster was moved? That would be a relief that it was saved. For certain, Elvis had good taste in coasters! Was this an Allen or Miller coaster? Ok, Miller....I just read the Wiki. I am happy to hear the coaster is back in operation at Bay Beach Park. With all the sadness I been hearing of parks shutting down and classic coasters being destroyed, at least this is a glimmer of light. Now I hope the Big Dipper at Geauga can be moved.

The Big Dipper was demolished in 2016. Cedar Fair wouldn't allow anyone to save it. Even if you had made a million dollar offer, they wouldn't have accepted it.

The Zippin Pippin in Green Bay is a nice exciting ride. I was a guest of the city and allowed access to areas of the ride to snap photos other people are not allowed to access. RCDB.COM posted 6 of the 200 photos I shot of the ride in motion on 08/18/2011
GB runs both trains on the ZP every single day regardless of rides in line to make sure both trains get even wear. They're rpoud to have it and it is only $1.00 to ride.. Another Gravity Group classic, from the John Miller Blue Prints.

"Memories" Just like Elvis Mem has died
Folks need to stop pretending. Just look at the gang graffiti from the river well into east memphis..
Use to be just a big o'le country town and now it's a city where the average high school grad can't even read at sixth grade level. Memphis is a city under siege.

Sheesh! If liberty land had survived they would've had to call RMC because I can tell how painful that is just from the POV. I wonder what RMC zippin pippin would've looked like. I mean no disrespect to Elvis Presley's favorite rollercoaster but that looks and sounds so rough it's no wonder the train didn't derail
