Your daughter put it perfectly in an earlier video....one thing she admires about you is your passion and your determination to not give up. I know that is one thing all of us as ‘watchers’ admire about you as well. Also your transparency....about life, about farming, the struggles and triumphs. Truly a genuine person Sandi you are.☺️❤️❤️

I have to say, I know a lot of women who “lose themselves” at some point when they are raising children. I think sleep deprivation coupled with the intense selflessness of mothering can sometimes take us one step too far in that direction. I am glad you found a way to work through those times because now you are here sharing all of this with us!

It's been literally a year since you posted this vlog. Having gone through my own period of reassessing my purpose in life after I lost my daughter to sudden illness, I understand the journey you've traveled more than I ever could have 20 years ago. I so appreciate your level of honesty. I am not a farmer, even though I might well have loved being one when I was in my 20s instead of my 70s. You've brought such light and brightness into my days. I am so grateful for having found your channel. Keep on doing it.

Us later-aged ladies are thing! I bought a derelict market garden 2 years ago aged 65 as a new venture. Not sure if it can be a commercial success as we are very rural and remote, but having huge fun getting 60 years of rubbish removed and poly tunnels and gardens started. Right now sitting on my scooter (yep, legs pretty useless) in the big tunnel surrounded by 2000 tomato starts, 1000 flower plants 1000 herbs, ready to open a stall in the morning. We need to encourage women of all ages to get going on those plans! And its never too late. I employ a young woman to work 8 hours a week or more to be my "legs", and she is really happy and hardworking. Plus last year I grew all my veg and salad, bought a canner from the USA and bottled / canned all the surplus which we are still eating. Other surplus i donated to a food aid project (which I also run as trustee) that provides fresh food every week to local people who are in need. Sandi is a fantastic example of a woman who loves what she does and isn't afraid to let her feelings show. We all have wobbly moments, but she shows how we can work through it and come out stronger.

I can see the pain in your eyes when you mentioned losing your friend. It hits hard. On July 28th I lost my best friend of 45 years to COVID. We were as close or closer than some brothers I know. He was a better person than I and the world around him will miss him almost as much as I do. One day I will get to the point you are; being able to mention it without losing it. Believe it or not you made me realize that that day will come. Thank you.

Just a note about walking away ---I was hell bent on becoming a surgeon. I got the residency I wanted and then threw myself into it, planning to finish in 5 years. Long story short, I walked away after 2 years. It wasn’t my passion, besides the fact that I could never get enough sleep. I felt like such a huge failure cause I was never a “quitter”. But now, 20 years later, I’m doing something different and loving it. I say this to let everyone know, as Sandi has, that you don’t ever have to stay in a place that is not right for you. Ignore others’ opinions and especially your own lol. Go back to school if you have to, but changing careers can change your life for the better It takes more courage to do that than it does to do nothing. So if that’s where you are, I applaud your courage, and good luck!

I dropped out of college more than 3/4 of the way through because I couldn't see how I would use my political science major (which I chose because I couldn't think of anything else--not the best way), among other reasons. I worked retail for the next 20 years; the only reason I'm not still working in the grocery store is because my store burned down and I ended up working at our headquarters. That lasted another 8 years, until 2011, when I was one of the people the company offered a buyout to. At first I wasn't going to take it--quitting my job during the Great Recession was a scary thought--but then I realized it was my chance to finally figure out what I wanted to do with my life and actually do it (plus it was a of money 💲).
So I made the leap. I went back to school and got my degree in Communications Studies to be a copy editor and found a company that was willing to take a chance on someone new to the field. Ten years later, I'm doing what I like; I work for a great company; I get to telework, which means I could get a dog; and I get to deal with professionals, not nasty customers. So you're right; you don't have to stay where you're not happy. Maybe don't take almost 30 years to make the change like I did, but don't stay in a job you're not happy with.

@@lisagd22 I am so happy for you. And to think it took what looked like a tragedy, (store lost to fire), to change your trajectory. Most people stay where they are because change is a scary thing and the unknown is so uncertain. But honestly, if you’d just take the plunge you’ll find being unhappy is not worth the “comfort” of inertia.

@@kkdoc7864 You're right--it was so much easier to just stay at the grocery store even thought I hated it. Part of it was that I didn't really have any other skills, but a big part of it was the thing that holds me back so many times, the word that you used in your reply: inertia.

I found your channel about 4 months ago. It took me a good 3-4 months to “catch up.” I’ve watched all your videos from the beginning. Our sheep farm has been in the making for two years now. Mainly convincing my husband to sell the cows and just focus on sheep because we have a big market for them here. Some where between vlog 100-200 I realized I wasn’t behind our sheep farm 100%. I started talking to my husband and being involved in making things more efficient. This makes me laugh as soon as I became 100% within weeks the cows were sold. Two months now without cows and I’m loving what the future of sheep farming hold for us. Thank you Sandi, thank you.

Such a wonderful retrospective on life! I was born and raised on a tobacco farm in Eastern North Carolina and my first pet was a cow who would let me crawl up on her back and then she'd take about three steps, drop her head, and I'd roll down her neck to the ground. NOT ONCE IN 10 YEARS DID SHE EVER STEP ON ME! I loved (and still love) Bessey. That was the middle 50's. I loved your take on "Plans". Mike Tyson (a truly deep thinker) once said that everyone has a plan until the other guy punches you in the face. The only advice I could give you is to be the best Sandi you can be every day. The light your vlogs bring to other people is a wonderful talent you have and not the smallest of the legacy you'll leave behind. That, along with two great human beings you've raised born and raised, and the one you've spent most of your life training (I had to say that for my wife of 43 years). I can tell you with certainty that this world, your world is a better place because you are in it.

Anita what you wrote is so true and hope Sandi got to read it. But she is absolutely amazing at reading comments and commenting back or putting a heart on your comment. To me which her doing that means A LOT to me for her to take time to respond. Not sure if you know, but if you would like her to read and respond try to comment within the first 20-30 minutes that she post her video (if you can). I remember her saying that after she post a video she tries to read and respond/heart comments within that time. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

It’s hard to believe you are still learning, as you really seem to have your act together. I love watching you as you help the mothers give birth. And the babies are so dear, it’s heartbreaking when you sometimes lose them. Thanks for opening up your self to us, so that we are able to learn about a world that I knew nothing about. I enjoy all of it, even when you switch out the old hay for new. Thanks for it all, and God Bless you! Sue

You are blessed & a lovely person. My Uncle Spencer is my Mom's brother. At least every other year we would go to my Uncle Spencer's farm & had a time of my life that I will never forget. He lived in Southern Illinois & Nobody can take memories away your memories. I remember Horses, Cow's, Bulls, Chickens, Little Pigs, & Hogs. Of course they had fields of corn, hay, & something else. The fresh air, all the stars, & a lot of green grass. I am glad I came across your video & now I am hooked on your channel. Thank you for what you do. Loving what you do. Even tho it is a business, you have a heart of gold & show a lot of emotions with your sheep. You do your best to save your sheep's lives, it is always in God's hand 1st then yours. Some was saved & some did not. Thank you for being you & doing what you love to do. Most of all, Thank you for having your channel for people to enjoy. Take care...

I have a friend who has been breeding, raising, milking, showing & selling goats for over 40+ years. She ran her own goat dairy farm for years, she's our 4-H Goat leader, but she will be the first one to tell you, that she still doesn't know everything there is to know about goats. Im learning from her, what she looks for in a good breeding Buck, what to look for in a good breeding/milking Doe. I know this, because somehow, some of her goats keep gravitating to my house. 🤔Hmmm.
In the midst of all her working with goats, she had a full-time job and lost her husband. It is a struggle, but I know she will hold onto it all, as long as she can, as will you. It is hard work but very rewarding.

The loss of a loved one is so hard. I lost my eldest son then my my dad and my father in law was killed in a farm accident. It was January so my husband went to look after his place. When all was done he came home with a little lamb that was rejected. That was my introduction to sheep as I grew up on a mixed farm with everything except sheep or goats. I fell in love and am building a flock of Katadins. They work for me as they are hair sheep so they don't need shearing. I had 8 lambs this year and 6 are twins. I will be purchasing another ram and will be splitting splitting my flock. I am learning so much from you. I have always been a farmer at heart and I have depression and find my sheep are my saving grace. Thanks Sandi for being honest as I know farming is not always easy.
    Love from central Alberta
