Hi mystechry, looks like my new wm2 7840u defect suddenly it report hypervisor error and fall to automatic repair loop, end up with blank screen and fan hit high speed. All attempt to reinstall or fix is not working (through usb flash drive), I email gpd but have not receive any respond yet. My guess either the memory module or ssd have stability problem, since gpd put warranty seal sticker in middle hole screw, I can’t check and see the inside as it may void the warranty. It’s been 5 days my wm2 becomes the expensive paper weight on my desk. It still can turn on, enter the bios, but stop after the gpd logo appear and spin wheel.

Hi Mystechry, I'm thinking about getting the WM 2 7840U. Considering the warranty and support, is it better to order from Droix or Aliexpress ?
I live in KSA, in Asia.

If you live in Asia, you can buy directly from GPD (AliExpress). They once replaced the motherboard of the Win 3 for free, as I broke my USB port.
Do not buy from Droix, but from DragonBox (www.DragonBox.de) instead. They are usually cheaper, and ship worldwide from Germany. Their support is superb, even after the warranty period is over.

    Hi Mistechry!
How about temperatures and fan speed/noise with the new thermal pad?
    Thank you for your videos!

Would you recommend win max 2021 over 2022 in terms of durability/issues? Seems like like win max 2 has a ton of issues

I am using my 7840u unit every day for many hours since I got it. So at least for me both units were super stable.
What annoys me a little is how I can not use both SD cards at the same time and that (for me) useless Oculink port at the back.
From an efficiency point of view, the 7840u is better than the 6800u

So your 6800u didnt have the sd card constant disconnecting problems? That is my only gripe with the 6800u unit. Not sure if it happens in both in the 16gb and 32gb ram variant

@@oneyedthing No, I never had that issue.
You can simply set SD speed to USB-1 speed to fix that issue.
I would rather have 2 slow than 1 hast card reader, but that is not an option any more with the 7840u

I finally got a Win Max 2. All my past concerns seems to be non-existent with my unit now.
May ask another? I know most of the testing are for gaming. Is it normal that while watching a 1080p full length movie, the battery percentage decrease to 1% every 5+ mins of play? In about 30mins of playing the movie, I get 97% battery charge down to 88%
No Wifi, no keyboard light, brightness is at the middle and volume at low Also other uncessary running apps like OneDrive are disabled while I was testing it.
I hope I didnt get a unit with a battery problem

@@oneyedthing I am not sure and I can not tell you.
I have optimized my Windows to consume less power.
On an non-optimized Linux, that is normal I guess, so do not worry.

Why are half the air holes on the back cover of the device blocked by plastic lol

    • @mystechry
      @mystechry  Рік тому

The bottom half is the intake.
The whole area the fan can suck in air is free.
Air flow would not really profit from the area around the fan being not covered.
The round spot is the size of the fan.
The other half of the grid, which is solid plastic is not even meant for air flow, but just for aesthetics, to give the bottom more of a symmetrical look.

@@RemTilak Now you know why it took me so long to repair that mouse switch ;).
Opening up devices for the first time is always a bit scary.
Once you have done it, it's easy
