My Dad installed cable for a few years and he used to tell me stories about various houses he went to. If he called the police everytime he suspected or saw something weird going on, he probably would have lost his job eventually due to complaints to the company from residents. It only takes being wrong once and having those residents complain to the cable company for someone to get fired.
Obviously in this case, it could have possibly saved a mans life. But unless you see actual physical abuse going on, it's risky to just call the cops on your customers without possible backlash to your own well being.

Unfortunately it's not taken seriously by the overwhelming majority of society. There are zero refuge centres in my country (Ireland) for abused men whereas there is 80+ places for abused women to go to. I appreciate women like yourself who acknowledge our struggles though 🙌 even though the easier thing to do is just ignore it like the rest of society does

I used to have a good friend who was of low intelligence and he was constantly being taken advantage of by so called friends. If he didn't have his parents or real friends I can only imagine what his life would have been like. Keep these people safe if you have them in your life. They will always need protection from the world.

There’s no such thing as low intelligence. Of course there are those that aren’t the same as those that have applied themselves in ways that either contribute to their pockets or minds. But that is because things as such aren’t an interest for them. When you come across someone that may not be that interested in learning and operating in ways that most do, it doesn’t make them slow or challenged. Slow and challenged actually reflect the behavior of individuals the tend to go around wanting to appear smart and better than, yet they will revert to doing some of the most questionable and repulsive things!!! Unlike these individuals, people like Andrew wouldn’t revert to doing such things, much less having such interest. As their simplicity and outlook on life and people differs in ways that most culprits would rather make them suffer for.

It's so strange that certain cases have proven that horrible people can have a huge impact on how other nearby people are capable of acting & what they are willing to put up with.. it's not an out of control mobb mentality, or folie á deux.. it really seems like a part of our ancient mind where people want to fit into a group & not be outcast or the one being punished.. it's a very strange thing to see in today's world

People with low IQ or intellectual/developmental disabilities are frequently targeted by abusers looking for easy marks. It's sickening how common it is. These people are adults with adult wants and needs and should be given as much independence as possible, but they will always need some guidance and protection, and it's so important that they have a robust and involved support system around them to help them navigate through difficult situations. Andrew, known to be naive and yet being so isolated from his family and left to fend for himself was a recipe for disaster.

Wow that's sad. Hurting a vulnerable or anyone like that is like doing it to a baby or a helpless pet. No comparison, but the innocent, you know.
My neighbor was, is always brow beated...they almost divorced, and I told him I'm surprised you came back.
But she doesn't for what I know, beat him. It's emotional and kinda man bashing in front of others, like he's stupid. 😢

I remember watching a video about this a while ago and being horrified. Your telling of this was so much better(not saying the other wasn’t good I just prefer yours more) the awful atrocities this poor man had to endure at the hands of those he should have been able to call family is shocking. It’s heartbreaking and disgusting. It’s so sad. I’m not a religious person, in fact I’m an atheist but I do believe that our energy has to go somewhere when our body dies, and I hope that his is somewhere beautiful, somewhere full of love and happiness. This story is more horrific than those told in horror films. Poor guy, I hope his family has been able to heal as best as they possibly can!
