- More trials and tribulations on these long shaft motors. JUST because you have spark on these, doesn't mean it will run. The trigger failed on one to prove that point! This video is about swapping a trigger and stator from one 20hp to another. And those things required to make that happen
Very nice another survivor diagnosed and now living. Thanks
I just picked one of these up, maybe a 80s model. It has compression but it looks like some of the electrical parts are missing inside. I know nothing about outboards but am thinking of rebuilding it just to learn.
Careful, those little Mercs are addicting. They really punch above their weight and when on a boat like a little 14 footer aluminum can get in the mid to upper 20's. Mine gets 27 measured by GPS
@@htssoutboardsboatstrains9784 Nice! my brother has a little 16 ft vhull aluminum boat from the 50s. I bet it would make that thing haul butt!
@@decapolis01 Find a 2 blade 11 pitch prop
Love those Mercs.....good job
What kind of spark plugs do you recommend? I have a 1966....20hp
Just standard NGK BR7HS set at .028"
Hey how did you figure out that the trigger /stator was the issue?
trial and error
My flywheel just won’t come off :(
Some times a little heat along with "hanging" the motor a 1/2 inch so the weight of the motor is tugging the flywheel. THEN use the puller to add tensile pressure & tap. Heat can't be too much that will damage the ignition components like the coils. Around 200 degree's F max.
What year is this motor?
A blend of years, mostly late 1960's
