Shannon Larkin is the guy that starts on the drums, Sully is on the congas. Sully is the singer for the band. Godsmack has quite few great songs worthy of your reaction!
They do small samples of some of their favorite artists towards the end. The first one that you recognized was the intro to Rush - YYZ. They are both in the band. Shannon is the 'official' drummer, but Sully is also an accomplished drummer, guitarist, and their lead singer. I've seen them do this live and it's awesome. I consider it more 'tandem drumming' than an actual drum battle, as they aren't trying to outdo each other.
As everyone is saying, Sully is on the congas at the beginning and is also the lead singer. He started out playing drums growing up. He also plays guitar, piano, and other instruments as well. I have actually seen this live twice. The first time on the first tour they ever did this and was amazed. Did not see that coming. Saw them again with my wife and kids a couple years ago and they did this again. Great live show! Love watching your reactions.
Absolutely love Godsmack and have seen them live at least 10 times..... appreciate your love of all music and glad you enjoyed this. Looking forward to other Godsmack reactions...
hands down, one of the best live shows out there still. Godsmack straight lays it down, fooks it up, and leaves you wanting more as they wave goodbye ( all while Sully steals your girl , you'll see )..... If you should EVER get the chance, please go see them.
Pretty badass to see 2 drummers hitting lick for lick. Even more badass when the 2nd guy is the lead singer. One of the coolest things I've been able to witness
Sully was the bongo player. This was filmed in KC, MO. I was there. They opened for Metallica. I only know that because that security guard was about 6 rows in front of us.
They did a drum solo when i saw them at Louder than Life last year and it was awesome. I used to be one of those metal heads that made fun of godsmack but god damn if they didnt put every ounce of energy into their show and songs. Great live show 10/10
Admittedly, I cherish just a few of their songs, but they put a whole of energy into their live show! Worth seeing even if you just like a couple of their songs.
Saw Shannon when he was with the band Wrathchild later known as wrathchild America and actually drank a beer with the band at the Masquerade in Atlanta 1991. I have a drum stick with his signature shannon xxx on them .
Shannon was in the band wrathchild? Did not know that. Saw them at funkys night club in the 80s in Indiana. I still have their cassette tape. Was a GREAT band.
@@cindywolfe7997 Well there was a band called just Wrathchild. They were a glam band from the 80's. Then there was Wrathchild America (named so because of the other band Wrathchild, which was from England). 2 very different bands. Shannon was in Wrathchild America.
I've been fortunate enough to see these guys many times. The drum battle is my favorite part of the show. Sully is the lead singer, and quite the drummer in his own right. Shannon is a phenomenal drummer on his own. On their way up, Godsmack would incorporate snippets of some of their favorite rock tunes into their rehearsals. The idea to make it part of their show was born, and the rest is history. In this battle, you heard RUSH, AEROSMITH, and LED ZEPPELIN. Their way of paying homage to their rock heroes. I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did. Love watching you react. Keep up the great work.
i remember, when i was 12/13, in the late '60s, Ginger Bakewr, who many consider to be the best drummer, EVER, went to the middle of Africa, miles from any town, set up a stage and gave a concert. just him, drumming. native Africans came from miles around. thousands of them. it was amazing. there must still be film of it, somewhere. if you love drumming, you really need to check him out. he played for Cream, back in the '60s, but he also played for a group called Blind Faith, but they only made one album. there's plenty of his stuff on youtube
As for the Sully Erna i strongly recommend his solo album "Avalon" songs like "Sinner's prayer", "7 years", "Eyes of the child" are just amazing. Whole album is and Sully's vocal just incredible

That was probably Tommy Stewart, their previous drummer. I think he quit the band in 2002. I saw Godsmack at the Rolling Rock Town Fair that summer (it was the only show they played that year IIRC), and Shannon was behind the kit
@@atomictuna5784 Interesting! I looked it up and it was actually in the Fall of 2003 they played at university at buffalo. I worked all the Spring Fest and Fall Fest shows. So I guess it was actually Shannon Larkin! Crazy, cuz he was ripping him hard lol Or maybe I misinterpreted their workmanship. Not trying to slam Sully, he was super cool to all of us backstage and other than that incident, he was cool. Maybe that's just their way of trying to make themselves better... i think he's just passionate about what he's doing... seemed pretty drunk too, so that can always bring out some passion lol
The lead singer started out playing the bongos with his hands, he is Sully Erna and Shannon Larkin is their actual drummer who started on his own kit. Sully originally was a drummer, he can play anything and his skills are absolutely insane 🔥🤘🏻 I got the privilege to see this live too
Imagine seeing this live when you were twelve not knowing the gravity of the situation or the complete dedication and skill involved. Only to start playing music and seeing them 3 more times and realizing how amazing this whole thing is in person. It was mind blowing once i had a better understanding of music its impossible to describe unless you were there and I've been there 4 times lol
Before Sully was the lead singer of Godsmack, he was a drummer in another band. He felt that band wasn't going to make it so he decided to leave and become one of the founders of Godsmack. He also chose to come out from behind the drum set and be the singer. What many do not know is when godsmack's first album was recorded, he played most of the drums on that album. They're great to see in concert. I have all their albums, I've seen them two or three times in concert, they're not my favorite band. But I must say they might be my favorite show. They sound perfect, great show, and many bands don't perform all that great in concert. But these guys are A+...
The funny thing, is that my uncle who is super into old school gangster hip-hop, got me into this band. Specifically this video because he and my other uncle (who is a metalhead) went to see godsmack at Ozzfest and they did this drum battle at that show.
I've seen them live 3 times in Toronto, and the drum battle was performed at two of those shows. Sully(lead singer/guy of the congas) is a talented musician and Shannon Larkin(their full time drummer) is a beast.
I saw these guys live opening up for Metallica. What a great show that was. And Mr. J as you have probably already read the guy with the long sideburns who came out playing the bongos was Sully who sings for the band. Sully's parents were into music his father played guitar and his mother sang for a garage band they were in. Sully said in an interview that when he was about 4 or 5 years old He would go down into the basement and listen to them practice. He said he was small enough to fit into a guitar case and sleep when he got tired. He learned to play drums from an very early age. I guess that when he formed Godsmak he didn't want to sing and play drums at the same time. He said that when he heard Shannon's audition he knew he was going to be their drummer. He said that their styles were so similar that it was uncanny. And they both styled their playing after Animal from the Muppet show. After watching this video again I remembered that interview with Sully and he said the idea behind doing the drum battle started when they were in the studio recording and there was two drum sets set up so during a break from recording he and Shannon started drumming together as drummers are wont to do. They fed off each other so well they added it to their live shows. He said every time it's a little bit different as they add some different fills in to try to show the other person up because they are pretty competitive.
I know I'm late to this one, but this was HANDS DOWN the best mosh pit I've ever been in. It started an immediate circle pit, and it was massive. It was primal, reminded me of ancient man dancing around a fire. I felt the past coming alive during this song. It was transcendent. I was already exhausted from the concert before the pit started, but I was in it the whole time.
I've seen godsmack live and do this drum battle... you wan an experience, try and see this live!!! (one day hopefully, fingers crossed!). your reaction makes me enjoy this so much more than i already do, haha, love it!
They do this for just pure fun!! They play so well together. They throw in drum parts from bands they admire, Rush, Aerosmith, led Zeppplin then back to finish with Rush song Tom Sawyer. Sully is a multi talet musician can play all instruments so much fun..
There is nothing like the energy when you see them do this live, which I have had the good fortune to see it 5 or 6 times. They do this so that you don't just get a "typical drum solo", gives you a little something special...unique to Godsmack. Sully Erna is the lead singer, he is the one who came out from the left and was playing the bongos. Shannon is the regular drummer. The snippets of songs were YYZ by RUSH, Walk This Way by Aerosmith, and Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin.
The react video I never knew I needed! Thank you Jamel! I'm hanging in there, hope you and everyone else are hanging in there. I'm learning to count my blessings more and more often nowadays, share the love everyone and stand strong!
Shannon is Godsmacks actual drummer. He's the one NOT playing the bongos in the beginning. Sully is Godsmacks Singer and guitar player. He IS the one playing bongos in the beginning. This solo is even more impressive live. I've seen it. It truly blows your mind.
I'm late to this Reaction Party, but just the same -> I Love love love this! Being at an actual show (I've been to many)...the sound and energy just reverberates through your entire body. These guys are AWESOME!! Thank you for reacting to this.
Sully used to be the drummer when they were starting out, then bacame the lead singer. Sully is a one man band. He can literally play every instrument on that stage! The most talented musician I know of! Love these guys!
Sully not only plays drums, he sings, plays harmonica and is bad ass on guitar AND piano/keyboards. His father was big in Italy and Sully used to fall asleep in his father’s trumpet case when he was very small, as I understand it., his father’s music is still celebrated annually in Italy. Love Shannon Larkin, too!!! My favorite drummer.
I know a lot of other reactors copy what you react too. I don't mind this drum battle because it should be seen more! Thank for reacting to this song !
I was actually at this show. The drummer that got brought on stage was Sully. He is actually Godsmack's vocalist. Great reaction....but you need to do more Nightwish.
They do this at nearly all their concerts! The bongo player is Sully (the lead singer) and Shannon is the regular drummer! That Da Do dun dun dun, Da do dun dun dun Is the drum riff from YYZed by RUSH, then Walk this Way by Aerosmith, then Moby Dick by LED Zeppelin, the. Tom Sawyer by RUSH. They always do a little tribute by different bands at the
They was just looking to have fun, it's one of the regular parts of their show. Sully (the one on the bongos at the beginning) is also the lead singer of Godsmack. He also know guitar and bass... he's a band unto himself
Jamel, I just wanted to say that I love your T-shirt. What a great message and you have a wonderful platform to use your voice and beautiful messages for people to hear what you have to say. I’m going to get your face mask because I really like it. I wish you all the best and I’ll watch your videos periodically because I enjoy your love of music and reactions to music that I love. God bless you friend. Good luck through these difficult times in the pandemic and the terrible things happening with people being involved with the protests, violence and crime. I support peaceful protesters. I’m a bed ridden person and I can relate to things in a new way since becoming disabled. I worked for a police department and also a district attorney’s office. I’ve seen the positive and the negative things that people do in powerful positions. I’m bringing this up now because of your messages of peace and love, you’re an African American man who seems to bring a voice of positivity and I appreciate that. Well done. May people like you be heard not just nowadays, but always.
Had pit passes and saw them do this live in Phoenix when they were opening for Metallica during the Saint Anger tour. This drum battle was the highlight of the show since I had never seen it before. And I got one of James Hetfield’s autographed picks.
I’m pretty sure they do this at every or almost every show. Some people get tired of it, but who cares? Sully is amazing, he can pretty much do it all and seeing this live as I have a couple times is awesome. My wife had no idea he could play drums like that when we saw them play. saw these guys live......incredible show from the front row!
I love what you're doing! Brings me a little escape and happiness in a trying time. Thank you!
My favorite video from this band! Thanks 🙏 for reacting to it
The funny thing, is that my uncle who is super into old school gangster hip-hop, got me into this band.
I've seen the drum battle a few times live so so so good!!!
Seen Godsmack 3 times!!!
You gotta be there to FEEL IT! Love your reaction Jamel!
OOHH MY GAWD. I'm so excited you are viewing this. This is such a beast.
Sully on the left (as previously mentioned) was himself a drummer for over 20yrs before stepping out from behind a kit to form Godsmack
Oh, I can’t wait to see your reaction to this. I’ve seen these guys and it was AWESOME. Watching now.
They do this for just pure fun!! They play so well together. They throw in drum parts from bands they admire, Rush, Aerosmith, led Zeppplin then back to finish with Rush song Tom Sawyer. Sully is a multi talet musician can play all instruments so much fun..
Finally! I've been on this forever! Thanks my brother!
One of the best drum duels ever!
SO glad you came upon this bro. Prepare to be amazed!!
Saw these guys live in 2007 , Fuckin awesome doing this drum battle
You should do “Voodoo” and “I Stand Alone” and just more! Don’t play poker with Sully. You’ll loose. Sully has the long sideburns.
Bad Religion
I love godsmack, and those are two of my favorite songs.
Or 10,000 hp that is my wife's and mine favourite and the 2 you chose are my previous long time favourites
Yes, I Stand Alone live from their DVD is one of my all time favorite live performances by any band.
Voodoo too is soooo underrated it's one of my faves
The react video I never knew I needed! Thank you Jamel! I'm hanging in there, hope you and everyone else are hanging in there. I'm learning to count my blessings more and more often nowadays, share the love everyone and stand strong!
It’s really cool to see that you seemingly were having a blast watching this. 🙂👍👍
This was so much fun to watch live. Great show!
Shannon is Godsmacks actual drummer. He's the one NOT playing the bongos in the beginning.
Sully is Godsmacks Singer and guitar player. He IS the one playing bongos in the beginning.
This solo is even more impressive live. I've seen it. It truly blows your mind.
Seen the godsmack drum off live in 2015 with slipknot! Greatest concert ever
I've seen the Smack seven times, high energy, the whole show. They come to work and they do.
I was actually at this show. The drummer that got brought on stage was Sully. He is actually Godsmack's vocalist. Great reaction....but you need to do more Nightwish.
Seen this live twice it was amazing both times!
One of my favorite videos! Also, love the message on your shirt!
Sully is an AMAZING musician and his voice is amazing!
Love your your shirt! ❤
Godsmack drum duo is amazing! Seen it a few times live.
They do this every show! It's amazing every single time! Sully is the singer and you need to react to some of Godsmack's videos.
The Allimate of KICKING ASSSSSSSSSSSSSS ON THOSE DRUMS 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
Sully the singer actually laid the drum tracks down on their debut album because they didn't have a drummer yet. He's amazing!
I’m pretty sure they do this at every or almost every show. Some people get tired of it, but who cares? Sully is amazing, he can pretty much do it all and seeing this live as I have a couple times is awesome. My wife had no idea he could play drums like that when we saw them play. Their self titled album is badass, should start checking out more from them.
