It’s cool that you thought of Godsmack/Shannon Larkin after they did the Neil Peart video because I got to hang out with Shannon quite a bit a few years back when he was recording the 1000 hp album and at one point he mentioned how Neil Peart was a huge influence on his style! Great suggestion!
Good recommendation. I toured with Smack from 99' and the last tour I did was 1000hp in 14' I think. I was their original Pyro shooter and designed many tours as well. I didn't do this one, but I have to say growing up playing drums, the smack boys were one of my favorite bands to work for. The band changed a lot when they got rid of Tommy and added Shannon. you should watch the battle from the Wake the F$%! up tour. crazy to see how far it came.

I know NOTHING about Godsmack other than hearing their name. That is like a once in a lifetime experience to see that live! I love when musicians can throw down like that! Mind blown! Fire, dope, hall of fame, amazing! Man, to have that level of talent......

You guys are awesome! I'm a metal-head going back 30 years, I've watched the Sully/Shannon drum jam videos dozens of times and they still give me goosebumps every time.
I've seen Godsmack live five times (suck it metal elitists) and this is a staple at their shows, although they change up what they play frequently, especially the tribute songs they cover at the end. It's awesome to see this live, the double drums punches you right in the chest. You definitely feel that shit
Only 5? Try 47. Godsmack and Metallica alone a combined 94 times. I used to have an uncle who drove on concert tours and I went with him more than once obviously. You’re right, this is bad ass every single show.
I've had the distinct privilege of seeing this live. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! One of the best live performances I have EVER seen! I never realized what a multi talent Master Sully was until I saw these guys live
I seen Godsmack along with Halestorm a few months ago in Concert and it was a AMAZING SHOW, Sully and Shannon had a drum battle in the middle of the show and they are both AMAZING DRUMMERS, being a GODSMACK fan for two decades it was a REAL TREAT for me, you should react to some of Sully's solo work, There's Until Then, Sinner's Prayer and many other GREAT SONGS, GREAT VIDEO 👍👍👍
The story, overly simplified, is that Sully is the singer of Godsmack, and he used to be a drummer back in the day, and then some shit went sour with his former band, who actually HAD a record deal, and he was like, "screw this, I'm going to do my own thing where I'M the singer." And everyone basically laughed at him and were like, "dude you can't sing for shit!" And he set out to prove them wrong basically, and the rest, as they say, is history. Edit: Also I'm Big Impressed that George picked up on the Korn thing. It also sounds kinda similar to the song off their most recent album When Legends Rise too. Check it out! In my opinion, it's the best album Godsmack has ever done, and they've been around for 20+ years.
Their album “Faceless” is probably going to be your best starting point for just getting into Godsmack. “Straight Out Of Line” is playlist. Their first album is great but has a raw sound. They have songs that show off their ability, and then they make some songs that just bang.
Imagine someone asking how the concert was and your response is “they had bongo drums” because that was mine when I saw them in London a few years ago. I’m the only one of my friends that listens to metal so they were all really confused. Still one of the best concerts I’ve ever been too
Sepultura used to have HUGE drum offs in the middle of their gigs. They’d get whichever bands were supporting them or they were supporting to take part. So for example I saw them play at the London Astoria with all the guys from Slayer and System Of A Down on stage, everyone with drums , everyone shredding with Igor Cavalera on the main kit behind them just going off. Good times.
When I saw Tool in 2002 with Meshuggah, they would get Tomas Haake out there on floor drums for "Third Eye" -- it was pretty cool! And I'm not even a die hard Tool fan, haha. I went for Meshuggah ;)
Godsmack has always been great.....Sully has one of the best voices out there....songs like ...UNDER YOUR SCARS.....VOODOO.....KEEP AWAY.....SERENITY.....WHEN LEGENDS RISE.....STRAIGHT OUT OF LINE.....MOON BABY
The beat in the beginning is from Godsmack's song "Serenity". Or at least a variation of it. When they start going a little faster it's from their song called "Get up, Get out". Hope that helps!
This band has amazing talent! I am not a hard core rock fan, but these guys just make my day. Sully who is on the left is just wow with what he does. Godsmack has been around longer than Korn. I never get tired of this no matter how many times I watch it!
If you want a laugh go watch Ugly Kid Joe - I hate everything about you (that's the name of the song, just clarifying) to see what Shannon was up to a good thirty years ago.
@@VenomousDingo That wasn't Shannon back then. Shannon was playing with a band call Wrathchild America at the time that song was released and hit big. Wrathchild toured around my neck of the woods back then....more a local act. Shannon was a BEAST. :-)
Shannon Larkin and Sully Erna I have tried to add on to the drum solo or battle I find it more like a duet but they say why fix something that's not broken sounds awesome adding on they are a band with a big heart
Same here, Edmonton AB in 2004 or 2005. First time I saw them though, a few years earlier at a smaller venue, they didn't do this. Thought it was dope then, even though I'm not a Godsmack fan and still do.
I’ve watched this reaction several times; y’all are so fun to see appreciate stuff like this. You should check out Vic Firth’s drum cam of Danny Carey playing Pneuma. Rock on!
Don't know what purest metal is, but I've loved this kind of music forever. I'm 56 and love Metallica, Pantara, Godsmack, Lynkn Park, so many I can't list. When I saw Godsmack it was incredible.
It’s Led Zepplin’s Moby Dick. They do this nightly on tour. It’s one of the main reasons that other bands that godsmack have opened for start to talk smack about them.. because they steal the show! Sully is a phenomenal front man and the drum battle kills it! Sully has a crazy work ethic and although godsmack was not the first rock band to do this, it was sully who decided to start it up along with the pyro and lights. He said the showmanship had been missing thru the 90s with all the “grunge” band where people paid hard earned $$ to go watch guys on a stage play instruments.. no great light show, pyros, etc. he wants to make sure people get their $$s worth
11:11: This is the exact same reaction I had the first time I watched this, and the NUMBER ONE REASON why I went out and bought that same Zil-Bel Cymbal.
Hey guy's. I love watching your reaction to the GODSMACK drum challenge. SULLY is the one playing the bongos, and SHANNON. is the drummer for the band. Both are talented musicians.
I saw this drum battle maybe, 20 years ago at a Godsmack show and it blew the roof off the place. These guys have just been escalating their duels and the fans are absolutely benefiting and I love Godsmack for doing everything they can to make the fans happy
I own that live DVD. I think it's called "Changes". They're incredibly tight on that gig (as always), but the recording quality is also great. If you want to react to some live Godsmack, that's a really good live DVD to check out.
So the drum battle starts out of the end of the song "Voodoo" from their first album. The drum rhythm there is very distinctive and returns in "Voodoo Too" on a later album. The background riffs for the second part after the bongo section is the opening riff to "Get Up, Get Out!" also from their first album. I've seen these guys so many times before and they put on an amazing show every time. Probably in my top 5 bands to see live. One year they were touring as the opener for Metallica and I would've paid full price to see Godsmack as a solo act. The energy is incredible.
I saw Godsmack at a festival after Gojira and Slipknot. And I went there just for Godsmack :D Btw, it was outside, it started to rain and got really cold but Godsmack decided to play anyway
I've had this drum battle saved on every phone I own for the last 10+ years. Love, love, love Sully & Larkin's drum battle! Had the honor to be there for one of their shows.
they did this for a few years, changing it up every once in awhile. I saw them I think it in '13, and they actually threw the sticks to each other almost like juggling. Also, in the middle was Zeppelin, but the name slips me right now, I'll edit when I remember, lol
I was a passive Godsmack fan until I saw them live summer 2018 and THEY BLEW ME AWAY with their live performance. It was epic! They did the same kind of drum showcase and it was incredible.
I'm so glad you guys liked this. Godsmack does this EVERY show. It varies a bit from tour to tour, but you'll always get this level of showmanship from them. The song at the start was Awake, and they basically roll from the standard performance of that into the drum battle you saw. Up to YYZ all the riffs you hesrd were taken from other Godsmack songs. If you want to check out more of them, my personal favorites are: Whatever, Voodoo, and Awake. Keep on keeping it real.
ok, when you were deep into loving the fill at around 9:50, that was Shannon, not Sully. I play and grew up with Shannon, he's amazing lol. We all love this shit

This band has amazing talent! I am not a hard core rock fan, but these guys just make my day. Sully who is on the left is just wow with what he does. Godsmack has been around longer than Korn. I never get tired of this no matter how many times I watch it!
Korn established in 1993. Godsmack established in 1995
Shannon Larkin is one of the best. He reminds me of "Animal" from the Muppets.
If you want a laugh go watch Ugly Kid Joe - I hate everything about you (that's the name of the song, just clarifying) to see what Shannon was up to a good thirty years ago.
My main influence as a metal drummer in my career. No godsmack stuff either lol. He rules
Listen a little back further too Wrathchild America and listen too a master.
Saw Godsmack open for Metallica several years ago, they did this during the set, it was absolutely amazing!!!!
Can confirm. Saw that tour in Pensacola, FL
I saw the same show with Metallica in Toronto
Same in LA and I'm a die hard Metallica fan and they stole the show that night was epic
Same here, Edmonton AB in 2004 or 2005. First time I saw them though, a few years earlier at a smaller venue, they didn't do this. Thought it was dope then, even though I'm not a Godsmack fan and still do.
Awesome show
If you're after some great drum solos Mario Duplantier, of Gojira, has quite a few, both live and in studio worth checking out.
His new UA-cam account is great.
I’ve watched this reaction several times; y’all are so fun to see appreciate stuff like this. You should check out Vic Firth’s drum cam of Danny Carey playing Pneuma. Rock on!
Jamie Lunsford REACT TO THIS DANNY CAREY VIC FIRTH DRUM CAM PNEUMA
Don't know what purest metal is, but I've loved this kind of music forever. I'm 56 and love Metallica, Pantara, Godsmack, Lynkn Park, so many I can't list.
When I saw Godsmack it was incredible.
This would be great for the SB halftime show. Wishful thinking
ugh...if only those people would listen to reason.
Thomas Cox exactly right. There isn’t a person that wouldn’t enjoy this as a halftime show
Yes. Godsmack should be a Halftime performer. A solo show of them. Cryin like a Bitch and a drum off.
It is sampled from something like 11 songs actually.
Great request!! Shannon is just other level!!
It was AMAZING LIVE!!..2 yrs ago and I cant stop watching it!!
George has become a true metal head. When ya start recognizing riffs and comparing them (same notes different progression) he's there!
These drummers are having *so much fun* - I mean wow!!! And they are both *AMAZING* - seriously. Thanks for sharing!!!
I saw this drum battle maybe, 20 years ago at a Godsmack show and it blew the roof off the place. These guys have just been escalating their duels and the fans are absolutely benefiting and I love Godsmack for doing everything they can to make the fans happy
Godsmack's version of Come Together by the Beatles is one of my favorite covers of a song ever.
Banger!! TOP 3.
Listen guys, their whole Faceless Album is a must see, including all the footage from this DVD!
Hell yeah, I’m down with this.
I saw Godsmack last year and they did this drum solo. It was incredible! After they were done , I caught one of Sully's drumsticks!
FINALLY! I've requested this on so many channels!
I own that live DVD. I think it's called "Changes". They're incredibly tight on that gig (as always), but the recording quality is also great. If you want to react to some live Godsmack, that's a really good live DVD to check out.
Shannon Larkin is the one on the drums, and Sully Erna on the bongos
When I saw them with Metallica, Sully lit his cymbols on fire and played.
Godsmack concerts are epic, especially when your front row and the drum battle is epic live.
Seeing this live was the reason that Godsmack went from a band I liked to my favorite band
It was Led Zeppelin, now you have to include them in your Reactions/Reviews to truly expand your horizon. :) John Bonham is a legend on drums.
They have done Zeppelin before I thought, maybe they got copywrited?
I'm amazed there's not more Zeppelin on this channel
The "Walk this way" at the end is a shout-out to Aerosmith... Both bands are Boston Bands...
As I have been front row seeing this 2 times it’s AMAZING the energy they bring there is nothing like it
I've had this drum battle saved on every phone I own for the last 10+ years. Love, love, love Sully & Larkin's drum battle! Had the honor to be there for one of their shows.
Don’t know what I enjoyed more...their performance or your reaction!
Love it when guy on the right jumped out of his seat he was so impressed like he couldn't take it haha.
I replayed 11:10 like 5 times! Hahahaha "Ding!"
Lmao!! Just did that then scrolled the comments to see if anyone else did.
Yess!!
Yes!!!
Me too! Lol
The riff you guys are loving is from the Godsmack song Get Up, Get Out! You should react to that!
I've seen them numerous times they do it every show and never gets old its fire
Seen Godsmack twice in concert. Each time they did this. It’s so much better in person!!
they did this for a few years, changing it up every once in awhile. I saw them I think it in '13, and they actually threw the sticks to each other almost like juggling. Also, in the middle was Zeppelin, but the name slips me right now, I'll edit when I remember, lol
Saw them last year in Milwaukee, they're still doing it and it's so good live.
Ive also seen them live a few times. Sometimes they throw the sticks to each other sometimes they dont.
Gotta give Moon Baby by Godsmack a listen. It’s my fav!
The section you were curious about was Led Zeppelin’s song Moby Dick.
Do a reaction to the song Straight out of Line by Godsmack
The song after "Walk this way" was Moby Dick.
My favorite part in the video:
“Ding!”
“HAHAHAHA!!!!”
They still do this today at their concerts. Definitely a great experience!
I love seeing people discovering Godsmack’s live shows. Been listening to them since I was 8.
ok, when you were deep into loving the fill at around 9:50, that was Shannon, not Sully. I play and grew up with Shannon, he's amazing lol. We all love this shit
Love you dudes! When did you guys start doing these video? This is the very first Iv seen you, thanks to your channel popping up in one of my music playlists. Hope Godsmack rocked the he'll outta you. They did for me 3 times live.
They are definitely one of the most skilled true musicians. They' have been selling out huge stadiums in Florida .
Led Zeppelin was the middle song
Moby Dick
The song is called Moby Dick
You guys rocked this one! Pausing to discussing a section and then backing up to replay what was discussed is awesome!
This is one of my favorite by far watching you guy’s and how you react to listening and how you guys simply have a pure enjoyment in music that you wouldn’t normally listen to this is why this is one of my newest channels that I’ve started watching and you guys are broadening my horizons to some music I wouldn’t normally listen to
If you've never been to a metal show, Godsmack is a good band to bust your cherry on.
Dance Gavin Dance - Man Of The Year
This band combines R&B and metal pretty well and it would make for a great reaction
I like son of robot personally
@@codycouch9994 I'd be fine with them doing that too
