  • This video was made to show to the viewer how I replaced the passenger side Constant Velocity Axle ( Half Shaft ) and CV Output Shaft Seal on an AWD Mitsubishi Endeavor.
The CV Axle may be similar with:

Thank you for an excellent presentation. My ABS sensor bolt broke. Once I got the axle out of the knuckle, I placed a 10 mm socket over the sensor tip and the socket lined up with the outer edge of the sensor body. I was able to tap the sensor out. Now I have to figure out removing the broken bolt.

Thanks for an excellent video. I went through 3000 pages of the workshop manual and got more info out of this 10 minute video than all of the hours I spent poring over the manual.

Well done with good info, thank you. Maybe use trans fluid to lube seals. Grease might break down the seals over time. Coat the axle splines with anti-seize before reinstalling. I just got done destroying an axle because it was frozen in the hub/bearing. When installing the axle into the trans, place the opening of the lock ring, up for easier install. If the opening hangs at the bottom, it could jam on the splines on the mating shaft.
CAUTION: you don't want the anti-seize to get scraped off while sliding axle into the hub and getting deposited on the bearing surface where the axle mates with it. It won't squeese out and will mess up your torque. It will cook out and loosen the axle/hub connection. Best to put anti-seize in hub and let axle shove excess out towards the threads were you can clean up the excess.

I have the same problem with my axle. Seems like it's welded together with the hub. Any ideas how to get it to come loose??

@stephenburem9582 depends on what you're willing to destroy and what you're trying to replace. If you're installing new bearings, then you need to push axle in enough to get to the hub bolts. Sounds like your axle ain't moving. You can start by putting castle nut back on backwards to protect threads and use sledge on it. I ended up going through 3 cutoff discs to cut up the hub and peel it off the splines. This exposed the bearing that I torched, then used sledge. Finally came loose. Couldn't save axle thou. You could disconnect knuckle, pull axle from trans and try to press it out. You will most likely twist off bolt head trying to remove the ABS sensor. The sensor has a plastic sleeve. If bolt comes out, you can spin sensor to break it loose. Broken bolt? I was lucky there. I had my axle out and used a 10mm socket on the sensor head to tap it out. Good luck, and buy bandaids.

@stephenburem9582 I have one other possible, less destructive method. If you could get your hands on a large three Jaw or hub puller rated for at least 5 ton and apply ant-seize to its threads to help prevent galling, you might be lucky. Some people are lucky by threading two screws through the hub that press against the knuckle. Just put something between the bolt and knuckle to protect the knuckle.

Your CV Halfshaft looks much more fun than mine. Mine would absolutely not separate from the wheel bearing (Had to change the bearing, but ended up changing halfshaft too), and for the ABS sensor, yeah, mine was seized in there, and I broke it when replacing the bearing. Rust is a terrible thing. Still love these trucks though!

Mitsubishi is proving to be a serious challenge to work with. How did you find the replacement cv axle seal? Does "Left" mean "driver's side" for these seals? Your video is awesome, great work!

+Blake - I bought it from rockauto dotcom. Yes, on a left hand drive vehicle, the driver's side is left. Thank you for watching the video :)

Any suggestions on not breaking the 10mm bolt on the speed sensor? Would penetrating fluid the night before help?

Do you remember the seal number?

@ Bartosz Grandson : I think it is (at rockauto dot _ _m):
      Left Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): ATP TO67
      Right Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): ATP TO68
      unfortunately it is aftermarket.
