Hi, Mandy! Chances are, I'll never make moon cakes. But even so, your how-to video is very entertaining to watch and I'm intrigued with your method. I also appreciate the cultural summary you make at the end. Love to you, too!
I doubt very seriously if the average Chinese bakery is going to make these kind of mooncakes, so we'll have to come over to your place to get our fill.
I just made your pineapple ones today (waiting a couple days as recommended before tasting, but they look good!). I’m going to try these ones out next!
Moon cake press. Gotta have one. Moon cakes (and Mandy) have my full attention. Off to get a few dozen eggs. Might skip the American cheese though. Maybe fresh chèvre?
@@SoupedUpRecipes Thanks! Thankfully we don’t have any gluten allergies in the family so the question was pehaps a bit unclear. I bake a lot of bread and normally use a little rice flour when shaping since you avoid the loaves from sticking. Problem is if you use too much it can leave a bitter/metallic taste when baked off. You don’t want risking this for the moon cakes…
Hmm. Chinese food with butter and cheese. I was told by a Chinese lady (my ex) that "Butter is just fat!" Well, not entirely. She would not eat butter or cheese. As Mindy says, times are changing.
Per Google: Butter is a dairy product made from the fat and protein components of churned cream. It is a semi-solid emulsion at room temperature, consisting of approximately 80% butterfat. So yeah... its mostly Fat. Cheese is much the same. If she was worried about her weight, its understandable that the shy away from them. A small block of cheese (or butter), is very "fat-calorie" dense.
I've unfortunately left it too late to buy my egg yolks. I managed to find 2 packets, which are frozen - I've never used frozen ones before, so I'm not certain how to use them - guessing I should just leave them out to defrost first, then use as usual. If I had more egg yolks, I'd try this, but I can't spare them this year!
That is for traditional mooncake, which I have explained in this video - ua-cam.com/video/2axmGxhLjws/v-deo.html This one, you can eat it right away because the lava filling will set if you let it sit for too long.
Hi!!! I liked your recipe today. I wish you wouldn't use grams and all the weight stuff that we have to look up. Most people in America use cups and ounces. I see you have that sign in the corner what the ingredients measurement s are but not for everything you say. This looks tasty but has alot of steps. I wonder how these taste. Nice Video!!!...🦋
That 'Hi everyone!' opening always makes me happy to hear.
Same :)
I really appreciate how you don’t just share the recipe, but also a bit of your culture. I always love to learn something new!
These are my favorite thing to watch. Seeing mooncakes/snowskin mooncakes are so satisfying to watch and make! Love it, thank you, Mandy!
Thank you very much for showing the failed filling. This is a higher level of teaching by showing AND explanation.

Hi, if I do not hv milk powder, what should I substitute? Will not adding 2 Tablespoon milk powder affect the weight ?
Looks great 👍
Will these still have a molten center at room temperature?
So pretty ❤
Do these need to be served immediately or can these be made ahead of time?
THANKS
Beautiful!
When pressing, is it better to use rice flour since it doesn’t contain gluten and by this you avoid the sticking?
This recipe contains 200g of cake flour so I don't think you can make it gluten free. And yes, when pressing, it prevents sticking.

Hi, can use the filling to make snowskin mooncake? Is the filling ateable without baking?
maybe you can try the steam way if you dont want bake
@@silentboomber the filling is already cooked? Can I just wrap it inside snow skin & eat it?
i heard mooncakes gain flavour when u let them sit for1-3 days, these dont need any of this?
