8 years later and your video is still helping people, LIKE ME!! 😁👍Omg, i have been STRUGGLING with connecting a straight piece of fabric with a curved piece and tried so many times.. Just did this tape method and IT WORKED so easily 👍👍👍💪I am sooo happy, Thankyou sooo much
I get many videos with lots of useless information. This is a fantastic idea. It’s one of those that says, why didn’t I think of that. New techniques equal new tools. Thanx 👌
What a fantastic idea this is. Just made a lot of us rethink doing curves. This week I finished a table runner that had a lot of tight curves in the blocks. I was so worried starting this. But after a lot of pins in the first block found easier to sew with no pins at all. And it went together great. But for smaller curves will try this method.
Oh, my goodness......this is wonderful! I am working on my first curved piecing project and have been having a heck of a time with it. I think this method will make it much easier. Thank you for a great tutorial!
I found this after looking for video after video on how to easily sew a drunkard’s path. Genius! I tried this and my seams were perfectly aligned all around the curve. 😁 Thank you!
I am so glad to have seen this video and curved piecing. Have you ever done curved piercing using two pieced blocks? I’ve been thinking about doing that and this would make it much easier. I think I’m going to do some test box and see how it works.
I made 6 Drunkards Path blocks using the glue baste and/or 1 pin method and they all came out horribly. I even used the curved piecing foot that the Crafty Gemini recommended. I used this method, used my regular quarter inch foot and every single one came out flawless. It was the easiest curved piecing I have ever done. I am making place mats so they will be washed and the tape will wash away. I also use this tape when hemming knit fabrics so I had some on hand. It prevents bunching and shifting and puckering and I get a perfect coverstitch.
I love doing curved blocks. But always have the problems with getting them to line up right at the edges an having pleats . Gosh this idea is great I'm goin tomorrow and get me that tape and I will be making the curve again 😍 Thanks Enjoyed this video .
I just finished sewing some curved blocks using this technique, wondering if it is ok to press them, will it make the glue stick to the fabric? The blocks look wonderful, thank you for this idea. I also was wondering about getting rid of the tape before quilting, but see that question was already answered.
No it doesn't gum up your needle . You are actually sewing to the left of the tape. If the needle ever feels like it gets sticky you can use an alcohol swab to wipe it down. I have never had trouble with sticky needles.
No the tape doesn't gum up the needle. You won't be sewing over the tape you will be sewing next to it since it is a quarter inch tape. You can soak your quilt top when you are finished to get rid of the Wonder Tape if you don't want to sew through it when you do your quilting, but It really isn't necessary. I quilt right over the tape and don't have problems with it gumming up my needle. If the needle does get a little sticky, you can just wipe it down with an alcohol swab.
Sara Miller Thanks so much, Sara!! I've been wanting to try this method, and have been nervous. Your comment is greatly appreciated!! Btw, my sis-in-law has your name! Haha!
You don’t stitch thru the tape you stitch next to it - the tape is 1/4 inch. I’ve never had a problem with my stitches being uneven. If you are worried about stitching thru the glue when quilting you can spay the piece with water after it’s all sewn together to dissolve the glue.
Did you make sure that the center piece was cut with the edge pieces on the straight of grain? If it wasn’t the curve would be on straight of grain and wouldn’t have enough stretch to be able to ease the pieces together smoothly.
Very nice! But the cutting for the middle curved strip wasn’t shown. How do you do it. The drunkard’s template only have 2 pieces! How do you do using them?
The tape is a lot less messy and you can use it anywhere without making a mess. I put my pieces together while watching tv and in the car when I'm not driving. Glue works as well, the tape is just a lot more convenient😃.

Wow! You literally blew my mind. I’ve needlessly struggled with this, and now I’m ready to try this! Thank you!

Thank you. I'll will be trying this method. Always been worried about curves.
This is one of the best tricks Ive ever seen. Ive wanted to do curves, but always put them off. Thank you 👏
Thanks Jo-Anne. It does work really well.
I absolutely love your way of doing this. I can't believe how great this works.
I found this after looking for video after video on how to easily sew a drunkard’s path. Genius! I tried this and my seams were perfectly aligned all around the curve. 😁 Thank you!
Wonderful trick for sewing curves love it, thanks
This is awesome . Best curved piecing I,ve seen anywhere. thanks
I found this video when I was looking for something else.
Wow! My lucky day! Best tip ever!

That is a game changer.. thank you!!!!
Woaaaahh. This is awesome! I’ll so try this out!
Now I'm loving to try curves with this new way.
Nice I like it his very creative.
OMG, thank you so much for this!! ❤️❤️
Glad you liked it😀 It’s the easiest method for curved piecing. I’ve tried them all!🥰
I fell like Alice through the looking glass. Just beautiful thank you
Thanks for sharing 😍👍
This is just amazing! Thank you so much for sharing!
It was a great help. Thanks a ton
Can it be use to apply a stretchy semi sheer lace ruffle
trim to a purchased knitted T armhole? Pins don't work
and Clover Clips weigh too much. TKS!
Wonder tape is also great for beginner sewers when inserting zippers.

Carolyn Settle Thank you! The Wonder tape really does make it easy to do curved piecing.
This is a great idea! I have been struggling all night with these curves. Just ordered tape! Ty
Does the wonder tape dissolve? What's the long time effect of the tape residue on the cloth?

Like this idea.
Спасибо дорогая👌💯
Do you cut the fabric as well or just the tape?
Brilliant
Thanks! It really works and makes sewing curves so easy!

What's the name of that beautifully patterned fabric you're using with the Wonder Tape?
Great idea but will tape gum up needle?
+Ann Marie Governale Am wondering the same thing!

Glue from the tape can prevent smooth stitching ?
You don’t stitch thru the tape you stitch next to it - the tape is 1/4 inch. I’ve never had a problem with my stitches being uneven. If you are worried about stitching thru the glue when quilting you can spay the piece with water after it’s all sewn together to dissolve the glue.
Your welcome! It really is as easy as it looks! It may take a bit of practice to get use to using the wonder tape! Have fun!
Thank you!
Genius! Better than using glue.
A lot less messy than using glue😀
Thanks Diana😃
it worked on the big piece but not the centre small piece - - how do you do that please as it puckers-??? I did put tape on the convex again
Did you make sure that the center piece was cut with the edge pieces on the straight of grain? If it wasn’t the curve would be on straight of grain and wouldn’t have enough stretch to be able to ease the pieces together smoothly.
@@saramillerartist Gosh- now you say that it sounds obvious. Beginner mistakes ! Thanks SO much
Awesome
got to remember this ✔.
Tks ❤️❤️❤️😇😇
Very nice! But the cutting for the middle curved strip wasn’t shown. How do you do it. The drunkard’s template only have 2 pieces! How do you do using them?
This is done with my Winding Curve templates. They can be purchased at www.sewinspired.com
I have used Sara's method...worked great on clamshell....BTW I am not related, Miller and married a Miller we are getting to be like "smiths".
Ha! I hope she's also got Colins (the company that makes Wonder Tape) stock in her retirement portfolio.
What happens to the tape? Does it wash out or something??
Yes it does wash out. The product is called "Wash-away Wonder Tape" It works great for curved piecing and lots of other temporary basting needs.
What will they think of next? Will be added Wonder tape to my shopping list. Thanx Sara :)
This same technique can be used with elmer's glue and an iron. A lot cheaper than buying wonder tape plus the glue lasts a ton longer.
The tape is a lot less messy and you can use it anywhere without making a mess. I put my pieces together while watching tv and in the car when I'm not driving. Glue works as well, the tape is just a lot more convenient😃.
Worth the price to avoid the messiness and sticky fingers that you get when you use elmers glue.
Does this wash off in the laundry?
yes
You can order Wonder Tape on Amazon.com
