  • Mary (Saoirse Ronan) returns to England to claim her throne after her late husband's passing, but not everyone is happy upon her arrival. Queen Elizabeth (Margot Robbie) immediately sees Mary as a threat. While her cousin attempts to diffuse the tension with a painting and kind words, Elizabeth hesitates to let her guard down. Bess of Hardwick (Gemma Chan), Elizabeth's confidant, assures the queen that she will quickly "secure a husband."
    Film Synopsis:
    Mary Queen of Scots explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart (Academy Award® nominee Saoirse Ronan). Queen of France at 16, widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry and instead returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. By birth, she also has a rival claim to the throne of Elizabeth I (Academy Award® nominee Margot Robbie), who rules as the Queen of England. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth's sovereignty. Rivals in power and in love, the two Queens make very different choices about marriage and children. Betrayal, rebellion and conspiracies within each court imperil both Queens-driving them apart, as each woman experiences the bitter cost of power.

    The true Mary Queen of Scots barely spoke Scottish. Or English for that matter. She spoke French. Since she was raised in France and was actually the Queen of France before her husband died before 18 years old from an ear infection. So yes in terms of rank (and wealth), she far outstripped Elizabeth especially when she was still Queen of France.

      It’s called colorblind casting you’re supposed to ignore the color of his skin, the same way you ignored the fact that Henry the eighth wasn’t fat in all four years of the Tudors. Isn’t it amazing how so many people are obsessed with a man’s skin tone in the name of “accuracy“ but not his waistline.

      @@antmagor One thing doesn't take the other. Henry was always portrayed as an eye candy to catch the audience. And casting a black man in historic films is to just include a dark-skinned person, regardless of not being historically accurate. Both are laughable.

      Then you lied about loving historical dramas based on real history. And if you really want to talk about historical fiascos in entertainment, then you obviously never saw Rein. Out of curiosity is there any reason why Shakespeare doesn’t get this criticism. I mean he knew half of what he wrote about the Plantagenets was just Tudor propaganda.

      Really cause that’s not what you people said when it was Jonathan Reese Myers, or Eric Bana playing Henry the eighth without a fat suit. So is it really an “agenda “ or just the fact that you folks are obsessing about stuff that doesn’t affect you and that you were never obsessed with prior to 2016. Also the movie came out in 2017 and you people are still obsessed about it like a forever victim. For a bunch that claims not to be racist you seem to be very obsessed with the subject to the point that you’re harping on movies for inaccuracies that never bothered you when the actor in question was white. If you can ignore an actors waistline like you did with Henry the eighth, one would think you’d possess the emotional maturity to ignore a supporting actors skin tone in an age where you all claim not to see color.

    • @terrortorn
      @terrortorn 7 місяців тому

      @@antmagor No its race swapping. It does affect me because I'm watching it and it contributes to culture. Strawman arguments just don't wash as coherent opposition and claimed "obsession" with racism makes you racist, pure Marxist identity politics ploy to denigrate opposition. Race is far more important than waistline in historical pieces, it lends itself to accuracy and this is not a revisionist piece with actual characters depicted and members of the English court do not hail from Africa. This isn't a hidden agenda its out in the open your denial of it is simply willingly ignorant of the facts.
      YOU can't ignore skin tone so why should I. I have a rational reason for it, accepting reality, yours is the political correctness or considering your grasp of the issue, FASHION and virtue signalling.

    • @antmagor
      @antmagor 7 місяців тому +5

      @@terrortorn no it doesn’t affect you, because no one forced you to watch it. You CHOSE to do that and it’s no one‘s fault but your own that you haven’t figured out how to change the channel. And the only one making strawman arguments is yourself as you seem determined to be a victim over nothing. Proven by your bogus argument that I’m racist (DARVO by definition). And yes I can ignore skin tone in color blind casting. Because unlike others, I’m smart enough to know that this actor is not trying to rewrite the English court as descending from Africa. Just like a smart person is able to deduce Margot Robbie is not trying to rewrite Elizabeth as an Australian. I can also ignore it for the same reason I ignored the fact that Henry wasn’t fat in the Tudors or the Other Boleyn Girl.
