Everything you said about why you choose to knit short row heels is exactly how I also feel. This is the one & only heel I've ever tried too. Never felt the need to try other heels when I love the feel, fit, & look of this heel style.
Where has this tutorial been all my life? Just found your channel and I think I’m going to watch all your videos ❤️
I can't thank you enough for your UA-cam videos! Because of you, I am now able to do a short row heal without unknitting and knitting again and again before I get it right. And the Kitchener stitch is so much simpler with a two-step process! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
You teach with such a peaceful approach. Love to listen in, I learn so much!
Awww, thank you so much Pat!!! 😄
Fantastic tutorial! Thank you.
Like everyone says, your voice is so calming, clear and pleasant. I love the FLK heel.
Thank you so much!!!
Another great video, think I am ready for a contrasting heel now :) I do think you are right, after a few times , your fingers and hands will find their own way of holding everything without phoning a friend for a third hand :D :D
I love twin stitch heels for leaving no holes and gaps at corners and figure, it is close enough , like you said, doesn't matter what you call them, the concept is the same , lifting a stitch, tugging to create a double , wrapping or all those japanese pinned areas to lift up and stitch :)
You are such a peaceful oasis in a time of troubled waters.
Thank you!!! That is so sweet of you to say!!!
That was a great tutorial! You made it so simple. I love fish lips kiss heel.
thank you for the tips on knitting in the yarn tails to close up the holes, it works great and I have also used it for changing colors in hats. love it.
Your videos are gold! Thank you so much.
Over the years I had understood that top down, must do flap heel and toe up, must do short row. Nice to see finally that toe up or top down, any heel is doable! Yea!
You are so welcome Nancy!! Have so much fun exploring all the wonderful options!!!
Denise,
Another wonderful video!!! I JUST learned how to do a GSR heel. Your video clarified so many finer details for me which all make for a truly well knitted sock. You are a master! I love your calm, soothing approach to the sock knitting process. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge so that all of us may benefit from it.
Blessings,
Jack
Wow what a lovely comment!! Thank you so much Jack!!! You've made my day!!
You are my sock zen master ☺️
Awww, thank you!!!! ☺️
This technique is just amazing and you make it look so easy! I just love how neat and tidy everything looks when you’re done!
You are so welcome Brenda!!
thank you for another awesome tutorial! I'm almost done with the socks on my needles then I am going to give the contrasting cuff, heel and toes socks for my sister. I think I may be watching these a fews times..lol! :)
You can do it!
An amazing tutorial, thank you!!
You're very welcome!
Thanks, Denise, for another great video. I love knitting socks and love learning new techniques as well.
Thank you Nanci!!! And you're are so welcome!
Hi Denise, Thank you, Thank you for your sock knitting videos. I have been knitting socks for years now but after watching your videos my socks have definitely elevated to a whole other level 😁. It’s the details that make them. You’re so generous! Susan
Thank you so much for watching Susan...
I'm a firm believer in the details...they make all the difference.
Omg that is the best thank you so much for your tutoriel
Thank you so much I’m so glad you enjoyed it Lise!
Beautiful video as always.
Awww, thanks SO much Dorothy!!!
Hi Denise! It is good to see your newest video tutorial release. I have almost completed one sock (since our last visit). I made up my own pattern, but used some of your amazing techniques. I am a slow knitter - but also knitting a knee-hi sock. I absolutely love it. Once finished, I will post on my Instagram page. I absolutely love ALL of your tutorials.(I ended up knitting a toe-up sock with gusset and heel flap - used partridge stitch for heel flap)
This is all so exciting to hear Deb. Well done on your own pattern!! And thanks so much for watching!!!
I just found you and am thrilled to learn your method! FLK is the only heel I use (although I prefer toe up lol) but had never tried a contrast color. With your help, no fears going forward...especially on my self striping yarn. Thanks so much for sharing; I just subscribed look forward to checking out your channel. 👏👏👏
Thank YOU Peggy!!!
Thanks so much Denise! I often use the fish lips kiss heel myself and I always get that wonky long thread as well. I try to hide it by weaving in my ends. 💕
You are so welcome!
Thank you thank you very very very much I had to take my time to do my heel right
You are very welcome!!!
Thank you I also prefer a short row heel over heel flap and gusset i cant wait for the taat tutorial
You’re so welcome 😊 and TAAT is coming soon!!
Just purchased fish lips kiss pattern. Excited to try.Been doing German short rows.
Hi Elva, I hope you enjoy it!!!
Very nice cool❤️❤️❤️
So glad you enjoyed it!!
Thank you for your lovely videos. Have you ever knitted a Shadow Wrap heel. I use them often.
Hi Sandra, you are very welcome. Thank you so much for watching. And now I have to thank you for asking me about the shadow wrap heel. I was not familiar with that but have since watched a tutorial and I am now obsessed. Thank you very much!!
❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Janet...
Fantastic tutorial as I am planning a contrast heel. Will this work with top up socks using 9inch circulars?
Thank you so much Salma! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! And yes it will work with toe up socks using 9 inch circulars. Enjoy!!!
@@EarthtonesgirlPodcast thank you so much. Never knitted proper socks and I'm leading a virtual Christmas KAL at my work... also need to suss this flk heel business 😬
@@madebymeah You’re welcome!!! Have fun with your Christmas KAL!!!
I'm back, I have finished the first part of my FLK heel using your weave as you go method.... love it! 💗 Once finished, do I just cut the ends? X
I have a question on how the contrast heel will look with the 1” stockinette you’re supposed to do for the FLK heel when knitting top down. Did you skip that 1” here? I purchased the FLK pattern.
Hi Cassie,
Thanks for your question, I’m happy to help. I skip the additional 1 inch that the pattern calls for and jump right in and do the FLK heel.
Earthtonesgirl Podcast- thanks. I find that part of the pattern confusing and it’s written as if it’s super important. I’m glad to know it works out to skip it
Cassie D You’re very welcome!
I purchased your no Fear Shorty Socks pattern. I am knitting German short row heel socks now with stripes. Well, usually I carried unused color by the sides loosely not too loose. Question is: do you break/cut yarn every time you change color? And then you weave in as you go? Thanks.
Hi Sandra,
Yes, I break/cut the yarn everytime I change color and I do weave in my ends as I go. I can never get the tension quite right when I carry the yarn.
@@EarthtonesgirlPodcast I gotcha. Now I understand why the Seam line on the side causes too much tension. Thanks for replying.
@@sandramapson You’re very welcome!!!
Your socks are so beautiful! I have a faster way of doing this, and when you're not switching stripe colors at the heel, you only have two tails as well. There also aren't any loosening stitches in the corners. It's magical, because when knitting with self-striping or patterning yarn, not one stitch is out of order. This is also one of the benefits of knitting short-row heels -- you don't end up with a wonky color change line in the front of the sock hinge spot. Anyway, we'll have to talk! ❤️
Hi Patty!! Thank you so much for watching my tutorials. That means the world to me that you’re here. And I would absolutely love to talk to you. I think you’re absolutely brilliant. FaceTime? Zoom? Just say when!!!
Not everyone has self striping yarn. You’ve missed the point.
I have trouble with my stitches being the same size when I use this method. The stitches that are made when working under the tail are always larger. Any suggestions?
Hi Debbie,
That tends to happen a bit more with 75/25 blend yarn because it's finer. But don't worry, it's happened to me too and completely disappears after the first washing.
What size are your needles
Hi Debra, I’m using 2.25mm needles!
Don't you have holes on the sides of your heel?
No I don't have holes and I explain how to avoid them in the tutorial. I hope you find it helpful.
What happened to socktalk part 3?
Hi Sandra,
Sock Talk part 3 didn't happen because I've not yet found a symmetrical short row heel that I want to teach and the one that I do love, the Fish Lips Kiss heel is copyrighted and I can't teach it.
I also decided to create my free No Fear Sock Knitting class series to help beginner sock knitters.
