The Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio kiss has been the talk of the pro wrestling world recently. Former WWE head writer Vince Russo believes that nobody believes in storylines anymore. He tells Dr. Chris Featherstone in this edition of Writing with Russo that most people attend WWE shows just to be a part of the audience experience. Also, he slams Rhea Ripley for her social media behavior when the infamous kiss happened.

That’s the one reason I’m not as in love with Rhea Ripley as everyone else. She’s terrible at making her character feel real. Every interview or social media post she turns the character right off.
@@Daiyve I agree. All she did for 80% of the time in judgement day was come out and say “we run Monday night raw” week after week after week 😂. No substance. And you’re right about her and Dom, didn’t even feel real anymore towards the end. She even does interviews with her opponents at Wrestlemania and it’s all nice nice. I can’t take her serious as a heel cause I see her nice personality way too much,

Vince is completely right, nowadays you can't even have a good comeback without social media ruining it, by the time the person returns the whole crowd is already yelling the persons name ruining it for those that's still want to be surprised
If Vince McMahon was still in charge this won't be happening without repercussions and for that reason I wish Triple H would act like Vince McMahon in this sense instead of doing stupid stuff like having AJ Styles lose to LA Knight at WrestleMania then defeat LA Knight to determine the number one contender for the WWE Championship.

Nowadays people can separate the talents wwe character to their personal lives. It's a show... No different than a movie or another type of show.
It's a very dumb and boring show which is why fewer and fewer people bother to watch. Movies aren't this bad. Other TV shows aren't this bad.
Kayfabe is really actually dead due to social media . Social media killed everything
People were invested in the Bloodline story. People were invested with Cody.
But unfortunately it took real life unfortunate events to garner that interest. Roman with the cancer issues, Dusty's passing mixed with Cody coming back to WWE after being forced to be Stardust.
The fact that they can't creatively come up with a story to make people care to that level is what Vince is saying. Since Cody got his WM moment.... What's kept the momentum going coming off of WM? Another match with AJ Styles is cool for in-ring...but no one gives a shit about the story simply because we know for a fact that AJ and Cody are friends.
The writing is getting back to being stale which will ultimately hurt everyone's star power and/or potential.
Agreed but I don't give a rip what happens between Wrestlemania and SummerSlam, and neither do the majority of the fans. You have ups and downs on a roller coaster. They can't all be ups.
@@madhatter8508 And under normal circumstances, that'd be understood. But WWE is under new ownership. And WWE needs the support of the ownership group more than the ownership group needs WWE. UFC already took so much of their appeal away BEFORE they became under the same umbrella. WWE can't take any period of the year for granted at this point.

At the end of the day, it's scripted, They're actors and writers. It's pretty much watching a live play. Doesn't matter if they break Kayfabe on social media. As long as an interesting script is written and they put on a good performance people are going to watch the product. Anybody who believes that these characters are real or get upset by wrestlers/actors being themselves in real life on their social platforms need a reality check

When the kiss happened with liv and dom some people kept saying "isnt dom married or isnt rhea engaged" and i use to get mad at those people for saying it but this made me realize thats not their fault its rhea and dom who put that stuff out there. I couldn't put my finger on why my excitement for this rhea, dom, and liv thing has died down a lot and now i know
You guys are completely right. Its not that hard! Have one account for business and the other is a personal acct. Even Logan Paul whos a PT wrestler even still plays into character. Look with what happened with LA Knight on smackdown, minutes later they had a video of a response from Logan Paul. Its pathetic they couldnt get Rhea Ripley to make some sort of response. WWE just keeps getting better. Dirty D and Liv are simply magnetic together. Liv has been a mid carder for so many years, and all the sudden she is on fire. What any of the wrestlers do on social media is irrelevant to me. If I didn't listen to this show, I wouldn't even know any of them do social media.

Social media has killed the mystic of most celebrities'. Back in the day you only saw them on screens, doing interviews, or walking the carpet. That protected the characters they played. That's why tabloids sold. People were itching to know more. When you put it all out there you are not mysterious anymore.

The moment you became Rhea Ripley, you cannot post pictures of you and your husband on your Rhea Ripley social media accounts. It's just that simple. People are invested in the character and follow each character religiously, so the talents have a responsibility to know this and be in character, not just in the ring, but also on social media. If Rhea wants to post stuff about her private life, then by all means open another social media account with zero followers, because no one knows your real name and post every thing you want to. The talents these days are so lame smh.
I think people just enjoy the entertainment at this point like now it's just enjoy what it is instead of thinking it's real so yeah.

Here is the thing, back in the early 90s to mid 90s, there was no internet, so you couldn't go into Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc, so nothing was overexposed, it made everything more interesting cause you never knew who was gonna show up to the program to beat up some jobber, you didn't even know Wrestlers real names, much less their real lives, you never knew anything, unless you were one of those people that spent all their money calling the company for info. When there was a pay per view, you only got to see pictures of the event on raw or Saturdays. Today everything is overexposed, I get to see footages of result from PPV events minutes after matches, I know everyone's real names, and who they are with, there is no mystery anymore.

Good afternoon WWE universe it’s another Maggie isms for the weekend edition I don’t know how to take diamond and lift kiss but I do know one thing we about to three seconds away kicking her butt because she smart than everybody think she is you after she gets off this injury, she’s going to go. She’s going to go after Dom and you’re right nobody believes in storylines anymore because let’s face it. It’s boring. They want the soap opera. They want the pizzazz they want to see what happens, but see that one infamous kiss everything else it don’t matter so it may be a storyline but when we comes back, she’s gonna have vengeance like vengeance not before I do that. Liv Morgan is not gonna be judgment day if she is gonna be very surprise, but if you want my real real opinion, Liv Morgan character made a big mistake. You don’t kiss another man and husband in real life. I don’t I don’t give a darn if it’s if it is a storyline or not WWE management should’ve known better audience but his real life gonna buy it. it’s up to fans figure it out, if it was up to me and I was doing a kissing scene and I was working with my wife in the WWE, I would have my walk-in payments so you know what my real life relationship with Gino. Let’s say my wife if I had one reality not reality I don’t know it’s it’s up to you to figure it out if I had a choice of working with my wife in there and having a kissing scene I would deny I wouldn’t even cheat on my dick. It’s like watching a movie set in the Ancient Rome and seeing airplanes flying by in the background. We know it’s fake, but we are supposed to buy the product, the storyline. They are breaking immersion way too much and not respecting the tradition of being in character. At the very least if they feel they have to share their personal lives 24-7 like good little narcissist, they should create personal accounts that people can choose to or not to follow. That way it’s your choice. I don't get why that’s so difficult.

Yes, they are actors. I only care about what they do on the show. If they have social media presence and private lives, that is irrelevant to the show. The business has evolved, but Russo hasn't.

I’m not at all surprised by the constant breaking of kayfabe because WWE is sports entertainment not professional wrestling. The wrestling itself is a very small part of the overall package. I don’t expect this from MJF, or Kenzie Page, or anyone else outside of WWE because those organizations like NWA and AEW, TNA, are professional wrestling promotions. Which is why Jordynne Grace can come to NXT and outwork the entire women’s division because Jordynne is a professional wrestler. The dumb hokey storylines and gimmicks, all this crap is sports entertainment and that’s what that promotion from Stamford does.
That's like saying movie actors have to stay in their movie or TV series characters to sell them so people can shame the movies. 😂

Professional wrestlers are in a particular character. Stone Cold Steve Austin was a singular character, not a real man playing multiple characters over the course of multiple movies.

I’m, as in me, M-E-, am simply saying that in the context….C-O-N-T-E-X-T of professional wrestling, kayfabe should be protected because WRESTLERS are characters. They aren’t multiple characters in multiple roles. The Undertaker for example is a gimmick, so kayfabe applies. Bruce Willis, of course wouldn’t kayfabe John McClain because he’s an actor. It’s not the same thing.
