Randy Savage is Vince Russo's all-time favorite wrestler. Reacting to Kevin Nash's comments about Seth Rollins being the modern-version of Randy Savage, the former WWE Head Writer expresses his views on 'The Wrestling Outlaws'. The King of Bros is a big fan of Kevin Nash but doesn't see eye-to-eye with him. EC3 and Dr. Chris Featherstone also go back and forth on whether Seth Rollins is indeed a generational talent.

To me Seth is more Elton John than Randy Savage.
I was thinking Goldust... Before I realized how insulting that was to Goldust, who was an amazing mid card heel for years and years.
@@jbbrolic hes billy squier in his rock me tonight video 🤣
Exactly. His character is literally a metro sexual hipster who's a flamboyant tweener by definition. Rollins took every fad and trend from the past 35 years and threw them all together to create his character. That's why he comes across as so fake. Because he's not original nor is he relatable.
@@-TheExposition-And there lies the problem - only a few wrestlers today are still a character/have a decent gimmick. Wrestlers have become fixated on workrate, to the point where the gimmick/character work, which is what sells, is not as developed, if at all. This era of wrestling is somewhat of a revival of the early part of New Generation Era - better wrestling but only a few good characters.
@@cinesanti7
That's a pretty accurate assessment and I never even thought of that, good point. Art imitating life and wrestling history doing what all history does in repeating. Remember a short women's revolution occured shortly after the attitude era begun as well as Madussa/ Alundra Blaze and Bull Nakano has a classic rivalry. Maybe LA Knight is this era's equivalent of Austin. He's older but similar trajectory.
Comparing Macho Man to Seth Rollins is like comparing ice cream to horse manure.
Tell em brain
Macho Man was cool. Rollins dresses goofy to cover up his lack of character.
Exactly
Nailed it
@@TheNextStep851 nailed what…? No one is comparing these two. Motch is one of the top 5 biggest global money draws in rasslin history & one of the most famous people in contemporary history. Rollins is a nobody, he was an Indy guy
@@marcbasil The hell are you going on about lol I said he nailed it that Rollins dresses up goofy to cover up his lack of character
Cool at what ?
I'm glad russo isn't scared to give critical observations of today's product. If he were saying "this is an amazing era and mcmahon is a generational businessman and and i'm glad to be an old-timer appreciating the new school" People would say he was begging to get hired at wwe. He might as well be honest at this stage of life
Praise the company = begging for a job. Criticize the company = bitter they won't give him a job.
People are just conditioned to hate everything he says or does.
People do say he is begging for a job. Vince Russo can't win with a lot of these people no matter what he does, but I appreciate his realness and he knows what he is talking about. I agree with 99% of what he ways.
@@terranceburrs5832he is begging for a job
@@TheNextStep851 i think he's such a polarizing individual within one of the most transformative periods of wrestling & within both companies. ppl have staked out a position (myself included) he honestly will never win.
@@Richie-Stefon-King Right. I doubt he is, but he shouldn't be worried about pleasing those people. They're the same people who will criticize anything he says or does but still watched the shows he put out. Like him or hate him he never lost a large amount of viewers like all the other bookers did.
He wouldn't lace Macho Man's boots lol
I worked with Randy Savage. I knew Randy Savage. Randy Savage was a friend of mine. Seth Rollins, you sir, are no Randy Savage.
Randy Savage wasn’t a *ag, he had swag. There’s a difference
Nobody is calling Seth Rollins "today's Randy Savage". This video is first I've heard it said anywhere
I haven't heard it anywhere either, but he sure as hell looks like him
Seth Rollins just doesn’t have the character or Charisma to be the main guy in WWE. Seth comes off so inauthentic. Although as a wrestler he is great, but his character on TV is just inauthentic. There is a drastic and visible diff between Punk and Seth
Not even remotely similar. Nash must’ve been drunk.
He's getting a fat paycheck from HHH
@@greencat9198 that, too.
Randy Poffo became Randy MachoMan Savage. Poffo wasn’t anymore because the Madness created Savage. Savage should have been inducted in the WWE HOF before he ascended into the heavens. Would have loved to hear that speech.
Rollins seems like he's trying way too hard. Are we really supposed to fear a guy who dresses flamboyant and has a screechy voice?!
He’s always covered up his lack of character with monikers and now, his clothes. His character now is the same stale babyface from a few years ago. His heel character is just generic arrogant heel.
The guy who I think is more macho man currently is la knight if your going by what ec3 described as a comparison and ofc nash does not like him. Seth is just there because he is an HHH golden boy that's it.
Seth good in ring thats it never drew a dime
None of the sports entertainers are anything like the pro wrestlers of yesterday
Rollins has always been the complete sh*&s.
While I think Seth is hella talented and a true main event level performer in today's era, the SPECIAL THING about Savage was NOBODY checked as many boxes as he did. To this day, he's STILL AMONG the top 5-6 WWE stars in terms of CHARIMSA/IT FACTOR. Guys who are such huge stars they transcend wrestling. So he's in that mix with Hogan, Austin, Rock, Andre, and Piper. BUT the thing is Savage was ALSO a trailblazer in ring for the what we would see in the WWF. IF you look at ALL US companies in the mid 80's, NOT MANY GUYS combined technical ability and the new age aerial ability that was cropping up in the 80's like Savage was.
And if they did ( like a Bobby Eaton, Ricky Steamboat, Dynamite Kid, other various light heavyweights around the world), NONE OF THEM were as complete across the board as Savage. I'm talking mic skills, great face work, great heel work, and true main event charisma/IT factor. So I consider Rollins a top notch star in today's game for damn sure. But Macho is the GOLD STANDARD when it comes to being a total package!
Before Savage, guys like Flair, Bockwinkel, Terry Funk, Dibiase, etc. were considered among the top total packages in wrestling. Savage was complete as those guys AND had the new age aerial assault we started seeing in the 80's on top of it. Huge reason was Savage-Steamboat stood out is because you had two guys WAY AHEAD of their time in the ring. AND Savage's level of charisma/IT factor on top of it put it over the top!
I appreciate the discussion about what it means to be a Generational Talent. Having said that, the term is as overused as the whole Mount Rushmore thing. I also think they're the same thing. If everybody is a Generational Talent, then nobody is. Pick your Top 4, or even maybe Top 10 all time. Those are your Generational Talents. Personally, I think almost all of the wrestlers today look like dudes, not wrestlers. We've set the bar so low that there's a discussion about Seth Rollins being a Generational Talent? Macho Man was. There will never be another like him. That's how you know. Seth is just some guy.
i agree. that said, when i remotely hear folks including stars from the current era in a wrestling mt. rushmore, i can only chuckle. i'm almost hesitant to entertain anyone from the PG ERA, however i can't deny John Cena did something for wrestling, although he wasn't a technical wrestler like a Bret Hart...his mic skills were no Jake Roberts, his acting skills were no Ted Dibiase. he sold tickets, he moved merchandise, & buyrate was usually up...and he inspired kids...sorta like Hogan...dare i say....not saying he was a Hogan...but they had those things in common to have provided such garbage matches.
Savage is FOR DAMN SURE the definition of a generational talent. If I could pick five guys to start a company with GIVE ME Hogan, Austin, Rock, Savage, and Flair. And among those five, Savage CHECKS THE MOST BOXES in terms of his bag of attributes! And among the guys who are mainly ground based technical wrestlers Flair checked more boxes than anybody. PLUS Savage and Flair have the iconic star power/IT factor on top of it!
From there give me Taker, Bret, HBK, Brody, and Lesnar to round 10 guys I would want to start my company with! Since I got Hogan, Austin, Mach, Rock, and Flair as my first five, I feel like you could go ANY NUMBER OF WAYS for you next five! I got two true heavyweight brawlers (Rock and Austin), four big men at or near 300 pounds (Hogan, Taker, Brody, and Brock), and four guys who can be the workhorses (Savage, Flair, HBK, and Bret).
@@Richie-Stefon-King Well said! And with Cena you gotta respect him because AT LEAST he reached a level where you can say he transcended wrestling. It doesn't matter if he had the pulse of the mainstream like Hogan, Rocky, or Austin. And YES he was indeed the CLOSEST THING to peak Hogan IN TERMS of the values he represented. Cena added the hip-hop swag element to it. I always called Cena "Hip-Hop Hogan". LOL And not in a disrespectful way either.
@@bizil100 oddly enough....Hogan, Austin, Rock, Savage, Flair, Taker, HBK, & Lesnar (Lesnar to a degree) are all generational talents.
i give Lesnar more shit because in the days leading up to winning his first championship from the Rock...he actually wrestled. had a moveset. it wasn't just suplex city. when he returned post UFC and fueded with Cena....he was limited to suplex city. clotheslined and a few brawler moves. he greatly watered down his act. but if you give me that guy that beat the Rock...Lesnar would ne a hard to replicate wrestler.
I'm iffy on Bret being generational. i mean i don't really know if we consider it the Hart Dynasty...honestly. they aren't the Von Erich Dynasty or the Anoa'i Dynasty. in terms of wrestlers produced within the family...not the dungeon. Bret had appeal. music, attire, technical wrestling...but in terms of technical wrestling...i think Perfect matched him before the injury. Perfect had appeal. Benoit has crazy technical ability. i really don't know where i square Bret in the generational/rushmore chat.
@@Richie-Stefon-King Yes indeed! The Next Big Thing version of Brock was like the 300 pound version of Kurt Angle (235 pound range) and Scott Steiner (250 pound). And of course Brock was a ripped 6'3 and 290 pounder on top of it! So he was the size of Terry Gordy for all intents and purposes. So when u look at it like that Brock was an EVOLUTION to what guys in that size range like Gordy, Dr. Death, and Hansen were doing in the past. We had never seen a 300 pounder like Brock before. I'm talking the look, true main event charisma/IT factor, agility, power, and wrestling skills as a package. He didn't need to be great on the mic because he had EVERY THING ELSE IN SPADES!!! So I feel Brock is a generational talent in general.
When it comes to Hennig and Bret, Hennig FOR SURE was a better all around pro wrestler. In ring wise Bret and Hennig are a tie in my book. But Perfect was better on the mic and had more charisma/IT factor in my opinion. The DIFFERENCE WAS Bret got that megapush and rightfully so. BUT Curt was just as capable in my opinion of being a great WWF champion. But he got hurt at the wrong time. And from there Hennig to me was better as a cool heel. But he still could have been a great heel WWF World Champion if Vince would have given him the chance!
But if we are talking the Mt. Rushmore of technical wrestlers, Bret FOR SURE is on that list! In terms of his in ring ability, number of classic matches, and being a multiple time WWF World Champion. So he had the skills AND success to be on that Mt. Rushmore.
I Love Macho Man Randy Savage
No hes not if wearing shades and dressing up in different color outfits makes u macho man then anybody can do that. Great worker? No he cant sell properly and has injured a lot of people in the ring. Generational no he hasnt done anything that raised the bar or something we have never seen before.
Randy didnt come up with the gimmick Macho Man. At the airport, on his days off, when he woke up in the morning he was an intense individual. Rollins is an introvert CrossFit guy
It’s not even close. No way he’s like savage. Nash is lost most times
Seth always looked like a dork to me, never was a fan.
Vince should just combining his favorite wrestler and favorite word and start saying “Bro yeah!”
Rollins is great. I love him he has so much fun and is so dismissive it's Great.
I wouldn't compare anyone to macho man.... i also wouldn't compare seth to any wrestler from the past.... i dont think he really resembles anyone i can think of.... this whole thing is people dont understand current stars like seth. So they compare them to people they do understand but its really reaching here.... maybe the current landscape is just different and not everyvstar has to be the next gen version of an old wrestler.
There’s only ONE Randy Savage. Point blank period
I honestly consider Seth Rollins to be this generations version of Jericho
This is true. Rollins lacks natural charisma, it is as such impossible to fuel his characters with something that feels believable. An extreme character like Machoman Randy Savage who should not work, still worked because it was fueled by Randy's natural energy and charisma, he BECAME that character. To be fair; many of the 80s characters could shape their personas with lots and lots of cocaine until it became part of their natural personas 🤣
Rollins doesn’t lack charisma though. Everytime he comes out he’s got the crowd eating from the palm of his hand.
Russo is really burthurt over Nash's comment about Seth being Randy.
Why does this dude in the middle close his eyes and avoid eye contact at all costs
Kevin Nash sounds like he's on something illegal comparing randy savage with Seth? WTF!!!
This mfkn Mark called Vince Russo had his 5 minutes of Fame. The word bro feels wrong being used every 5 seconds. Like damn, just go under your rock and live in the past. Dude, today's day and age, you see similarities with every other character from the past
unlike LA KNIGHT ...Seth Rollins ISNT trying to be anyone else ... although the gimmick Seth is doing now is pretty flamboyant all i can do is shake my head in disappointment every time he come out to the ring ..shivering in the stupid outfits he wears
They will never be another randy savage loll... seth is seth .. macho is macho 💯💯💯
Vince Russo also thought it would be hilarious to name something TNA because people would think it means tits n ass.
Vince me cracking me up , bro. Lmao.
He needs to come up with his own character. I love Seth as a wrestler but .,.
Drip God gimmick is stale now
Nothing about Macho Man was "WWF/WWE Product." Rollins is nothing but "WWE Product." Darn good worker (at times) but no actual identity. I like Nash but I'm kinda wondering if he ever saw Randy Savage.
Wow so glad you guys brought this up because I've been saying they are desperately trying to make him like a randy savage. He tries so hard with those horrible outfits. Macho was cool. Seth is a bum
I Met The Macho Man in The Company I've Worked Call Brooks Brothers Mens Clothing The Way He Was In The Ring is The Way He Was At Brooks Brothers He Went To Buy Some Polo Shirts And When The Sales Lady Asked Him Would You like it On A Box Or In A Bag Macho Man Said on A Box Oh Yeah He Was A Great Wrestler
Rip
I.p
I Iliterally just said the exact same thing yesterday on on another video that had posted Rollins addressing Punk coming back on the house show the day after Survivor Series. Rollings indeed comes across as forced.and does so because he's just not charismatic. The Architect, The King Slayer, The Beast Slayer, The Monday Night Messiah, The Visionary and now Seth "Freakin" Rollins. He keeps having to tweak his character because he lacks charisma.
EC3 looks wasted.. I understand russo's argument and agree with him, but the bottom line is Seth Rollins delivers in the ring, thats all that matters. Bryan Christopher never had 10% of the athleticism of Seth.
Mach was THE GUY to put this new age type of total package on the map in the 80's. He blended this attributes the best and was WAYYYY ahead of his time:
True main event charisma/IT factor
Aerial ability
Technical Skills
Face work
Heel Work
Mic Skills
After Savage, I would say HBK was THE NEXT GUY who had all these attributes in spades. So I consider Savage and HBK as THESE GUYS to truly stamp this type of versatility in the main event scene. Bret and Hennig had this package to an extent too back in the day. But they didn't check ALL THE BOXES for this blend like Mach and HBK. Guys like Owen and Pillman did too on a lower level. But once again not on the level of Mach and HBK. Just saying Macho and HBK put these attributes together THE BEST back in the day. A guy like Steamboat who could DO IT ALL IN RING and was a main event caliber guy didn't have the mic skills. And he never worked as a heel. And his level of charisma/IT factor wasn't on the level of Mach or HBK.
From there, the FLOODGATES OPENED for guys with this blend in the late 90's, 2000s, and 2010s. We got guys like Jericho, Eddie, Angle, Punk, Rollins, Danielson, AJ, etc. All these guys put their own twist on that type of blend. And employed it in their own unique way. So when it comes to Rollins being compared to Savage, IT'S BECAUSE he combined all the attributes I laid out at an elite level. Plus physically they are pretty similar as well. And both are known for the flamboyant wardrobes.
But in my book, Savage IS STILL the king of the blend of attributes I've been talking about. BECAUSE even though the guys after him evolved what he did in ring, those guys don't have Savage's level of charisma/IT factor! All the guys I named are huge stars, main eventers, and legends for damn sure. BUT Savage WAS THAT and a legit pop culture icon. HE TRANSCENDED PRO WRESTLING!!!
It takes guys like a Hogan, Rock, Austin, and Andre TO BE A BIGGER STAR than a peak Randy Savage!!! So when you look at it like that, I see what Russo means. Because as big of a star as Rollins is, Savage is in RARIFIED AIR when it comes to star power! And when u factor all the other attributes he has, Savage could VERY WELL BE the most complete wrestler of all time!!
Seth Rollins looks like a wannabe punk rocker who did community service at a Dollar Store during their Halloween sale
Says the mam who singlehandedly helped put WWE in the dark ages and helped ruin WWC
seth rollins should never be compare to RANDY MACHO MEN
Kevin Nash and Trips are best buds
Seth is Trips boy
So i expect the ridiculous endorsement from Kevin
Seth Rollins is and always will be in the shadow of Roman Reigns.
Rollins couldnt lace up the Goats boots
Seth Rollins isn't good enough to hold the Macho Man's jock!
Savage >>>>>>>> Rollins
Nash has been smoking to much of his products,,,No way is Rollins like Macho ,,and his squeaky voice
Yeah, because looking back at it, Savage wasn't forced. Please.
Please. There's nobody like Randy Savage. 😂 especially Seth trash.
SETH Rollins sucks at acting. No way can you compare him to Randy Savage.
HaHA russo is hilarious. I agree aswell. Seth is overrated as hell. His gimmick is forced and not even entertaining. He's alright but come on, don't compare to the macho man you are just asking for trouble.
Macho Man was real ... seth rollins is a fake character
What an insult to the macho man..gtfoh noooo way
the same Russo that gave us the shit show that was the end of WCW....
i'll pass on anything Russo says.
that said, i don't think Seth is giving Savage vibes
Seth hasn't said he's channeling Savage.
this was Nash's opinion.
so this is a useless conversation.
Seth's attire has evolved...every superstar evolves...EVERY from Hogan, Taker, Yoko, Savage
Seth gets a lot of heat for being Seth, but he's put in a lot of work from the indies to now and giving WWE a hell of a lot more than the face today....Roman.
I knew someone was going to appear in the comments speaking foolishness about Vince Russo and making a dumb comment. I was scrolling and looking for it, and here it is.
@@terranceburrs5832 the mere fact you believe Russo is anything other than foolishness says you also probably watch WWF 94-95 with glee.
@@Richie-Stefon-King Russo wasn't on the creative team in 94-95. He wasn't on creative until late 1997 and became the head writer in 1998. So let's know the facts. You are attributing something to him he had nothing to do with. But it is interesting you don't mention the height of the Attitude Era when he was the head writer and generated the biggest ratings in the history of wrestling.
@@terranceburrs5832 you misread, mr. i want to argue, again anyone supporting Russo probably watched the trash that was WWF in 94-95 (one of the worst talent periods in the company) and enjoyed it with glee. didn't say Russo was there, i eluded that such a person likely has poor content judgment so i wouldn't listen to anything they're telling me about wrestling. enjoy your night though 🤙🏽
@@Richie-Stefon-King and the answer to that is no. When WWE was on the verge of going out of business and the product was very bad, I along with a lot of other people put sole focus into watching WCW. When the product got good again around the latter part of 1997 I started watching again. But your point is still non-sensical and has nothing to do with point. You challenged Russo's credibility when he is responsible for the greatest ratings in the history of wrestling. That level of success was not seen prior to him and when he left WWE the ratings have been going down ever since. In WCW, the ratings went up within his first 3 months there and the ratings were always higher the periods he was there compared to when he wasn't there. And TNA had their grestest success ratings wise when Russo was the head writer. They were getting 2 million viewers, which that level of success was not seen in TNA after him. So let's not be disingenious by challenging the man's credibility. He doesn't need me to defend him but I will defend him against the stupidity of many wrestling fans.
Well DuRR he's Seth Rollins honestly I love me some Macho Man but Seth is better.
😂😂😂😂
Cool you take Seth who I’m a fan of, and I’ll take Savage. Savage is better than the best! Whoever you think is the best, MachoMan is better. Loved that promo with Sensational Sherri.
Savage is a timeless performer, he will always be one of the great personalities of this industry. Seth "Freaking" Rollins is a desperate and contrived act brought to groan-inducing life by a regular guy with no likability factor. Rollins is a poor choice by Levesque to carry the 'Raw' brand on his skinny shoulders, rendering the "Red Brand" a complete joke in the process. This glorified clown should never be mentioned in the same conversion as The Macho Man.
